A science fiction story. An alien world. Lost civilizations. Great pixel visuals. This game has a lot I like. It also has a love story at the core of it. You play a scientist that recently lost his wife. And he will travel the universe to save her. He wants to go back to an alien world where there is some sort of mysterious power\/technology that can bring back the dead.<\/p>\n

If along the way you should happen to uncover some mysteries of the planet, then all the better.<\/p>\n

The Way is a puzzle platformer with a more action slant. There are enemies you need to deal with and traps to avoid. At times, the puzzles, traps and enemies all blend together wonderfully.<\/p>\n

I think there’s really only one puzzle that’s annoying. It’s one where you need to order a drone around with commands, but you have to memorize the layout of the room since you can’t scroll the screen around (or I did it the hard way). And every time I wanted to add new commands, I had to rewatch the drone running through the old commands to figure out what to do.<\/p>\n

Beyond that, though, the game smartly integrates environment into the actions and puzzles.<\/p>\n

A shocking puzzle.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

You are a fragile scientist that will die, so you need to be prepared in order to get through the dangers of the alien planet. From local wildlife to the remains of ancient ruins, you’ll get a lot of different skills to help out.<\/p>\n

Interestingly enough, you’ll also lose skills. So the game changes tracks a few times keeping things interesting.<\/p>\n

The alien planet is great visually. You travel through a lot of different environments. This is not a story that takes place over a few days. You really feel the struggle of this scientist. Saving his wife has become his life’s work. It is the only thing he is striving for, yet he can still manage to find some beauty in his strange new home.<\/p>\n

And the dangers.<\/p>\n

You really get to see the scientist change over the course of his journey. See how deeply the mysteries of the planet go. Where did the race that can bring back the dead go?<\/p>\n

Meet some locals.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It’s certainly not those guys up there.<\/p>\n

I think the only thing that brings down the game is a rather goofy final stage. It doesn’t mesh well with the otherwise great atmosphere set by the rest of the game. I won’t spoil what it actually is, but it does feel more game-y compared to everything else.<\/p>\n

Still, The Way is a fun science fiction platformer where you brave a strange alien world. All for love.<\/p>\n
