Persona
Since a young age Conrad has been both an intelligent and curious boy, eager to explore and investigate anything unknown to him. His curiosity, far from subsiding, has only increased over the years and is one of the main driving forces in his life. But as the old proverb states, "Curiosity killed the cat," Conrad often crosses boundaries when his prying mind gets the best of him; never the less he is constantly in search of new and interesting topics to hold his interest.
Although it has been centuries since his mental age matched his physical appearance he still retains many of the mannerisms and traits of his youth. Conrad often carries a boyish and slightly lopsided grin on his face no matter what the situation. And, as is the habit of many children, he is honest regardless of people's feelings, preferring to speak his mind honestly than politely withhold his opinions. But beneath his childish appearance lie biting sarcasm and a harsh superiority complex that stems from his own feelings of inferiority. Although he plays it off as the antics of a child he insults those around him that he feels are inferior and is quick to point out flaws in others; although these observations are usually intended to be constructive criticism some people are put off by his approach. He has no tolerance for stupidity and finds people who believe that brute strength can solve everything intolerable.
Despite his often rude behavior once he attaches himself to someone emotionally he proves to be a loyal friend and ally. Once he finally develops a level of respect for someone he generally tends to ease off on the insults as well as the sarcasm. Anyone close to him eventually realizes that Conrad's sarcasm and criticism are his defense mechanism against his own feelings of loneliness and inferiority.

Physical Stature
Conrad, being of German heritage, has his head covered in short, unkempt wheat colored hair. His skin is a slightly pale cream color due to his time spent indoors reading or doing research. Bright blue-green eyes lie behind a pair of slim, black, rectangular glasses; although he wears the glasses at all times, their magnification is simply to aid him when reading small text during hours spent in the library. Being only 4'4" Conrad doesn't tend to physically stand out too much in a crowd. His hair is one of the few nonprofessional aspects of his appearance; the only other noticeable feature is a silver tongue ring that Conrad has had for some years.
Conrad wears his shinigami robes loose on his body to the point that it should hamper his movement, yet he moves with an almost dignified grace in the robes. Since his youth Conrad was taught proper posture and body language; because of this he often conveys himself in a very practiced and professional manner.
Biography
Conrad grew up Hamburg, Germany the son of a general researcher and an engineer. Starting early in life Conrad was surrounded by scientists and researchers. Conrad spent many days in his family's library reading with his mother. His mother was a respected engineer and would often build simple mechanical devices with Conrad. Conrad loved his parents very much and they're one of the main causes for his fascination with technology and science in general. His family was fairly well off and he was trained to be a "true gentleman" as his father use to put it, which is the source of his elegant body language, posture and gait.
When Conrad was eight he began hearing voices, soft whispers, when no one was around. He told his parents about this but they disregarded it as being his imagination. But it got worse over the years, when he was 12 his parents sent him to a psychologist to be tested for personality disorders and psychosis; the tests seemed to prove that he was mentally stable which only furthered his parent's confusion.
On Conrad's thirteenth birthday his parents were driving home late at night and they were all laughing and having a fine time. Conrad had just had a wonderful birthday party and they were all tired but in high spirits. Conrad was reading a book that his mother had got him for his birthday and he asked her to explain something to him, so she turned from her seat in the front of the car and looked at the passage Conrad had questioned. The other car seemed to come from out of no where. The driver was drunk and despite his father's attempts to avoid a crash the cars collided. The impact killed Conrad's mother and father almost instantly and sent the car careening into a ditch. Conrad lay bleeding in the back seat, trapped in the twisted metal trap that was once his father's car. By the time an ambulance-- called by a couple who witnessed the crash-- arrived on the scene it was too late to save him. Before Conrad died he swore he remembered hearing his mother singing to him, the song was an old lullaby she would sing to Conrad when he couldn't sleep.
Conrad arrived in the Rukongai close to a century before the Great Hollow War. During this time Conrad did a lot of adjusting and growing up, at least mentally. The transition was made easier by the fact that this new world provided an almost infinite number of new experiences for Conrad. When the Great Hollow War started Conrad began an apprenticeship under the Shiba family and used his knowledge of engineering and science to help in the construction of explosives to be used against the hollows. It was this involvement with the war that got him interested in the shinigami. He befriended and lost many people during the Great Hollow War and found himself wishing he could do more. When he heard of the 8th Division and its vast research facilities it hardened his resolve even further, he would join the ranks of the Shinigami.
