A list of not so well-known facts about the Halcyon Days universe:

SHINIGAMI

  • There are four distinct penitentiaries in the Soul Society:
  • Hachinetsu Jigoku (八熱地獄, lit. "The Eight Hot Hells"), often referred to as simply the Prison, is located below the Chamber of Forty-Six, accessible only by the Onmitsukidou's Detention Unit and those specifically designated by the Central Forty-Six. It has eight progressively deeper levels, with the Eighth level reserved for the worst criminals in the history of Soul Society.

  • The Enforced Criminal Service Compound, administered by the 7th Division along with some Onmitsukidou supervision, is located on the eastern side of Seireitei. It is surrounded by bloodstone walls and used to house individuals who have committed crimes, but have been deemed to be victims of circumstance. Although this in no way excuses their actions, members of the E.C.S. have the privilege of being able to take on dangerous missions in return for years off of their sentence.

  • The Senzaikyuu (懺罪宮, lit. "Shrine of Penitence") is a tower of bloodstone at the center of Seireitei, in the midst of the 1st Division. It towers above even the 1st Division's main tower and the observatory, overlooking the Soukyoku Hill. This tower is 'death row,' reserved for criminals sentenced to death, allowing them to reflect on their sins and view the execution grounds.

  • The Maggot's Nest (蛆虫の巣, Ujimushi no Su) can be thought of as an asylum. Located on the 2nd Division grounds, most of the complex is underground, with the entrance recessed against an outcropping of stone. The inmates here have, at least officially, not committed any crime, but are still deemed threats to society. The Onmitsukidou Detention Unit also supervises the Maggot's Nest, and no weapons are permitted inside, meaning that only those guards who excel at hand-to-hand combat may be stationed there. Many inmates of the Maggot's Nest are interred without trial or formal announcement, and all communication with the outside world is cut off completely.
  • The Gotei 13 is the largest military force in the Soul Society, followed by the Onmitsukidou (隠密機動, Stealth Force), and the Kidou Corps (鬼道衆, Kidoushuu). The true size of the Kidoushuu is known only to the Kidoushuu, and they pointedly avoid referring to themselves as a military force.

  • There is a Senkaimon (穿界門, World Penetration Gate) located on the grounds of every division in the Gotei 13. The Soukyoku arc once served as the first Senkaimon, though, is no longer in use as such. It is the gate used to travel between the two worlds. The Senkaimon is in fact the only official and safe way to enter and leave Soul Society. The Soul Society has only one permanent Senkaimon, it takes the form of a giant gate situated within a large courtyard atop a large tower. Travel through the Senkaimon is heavily regulated and can officially only be opened by the members of the Kidoushuu. Upon opening the gate doors there is nothing but white light the emanates from the door, this light extends upward into the sky of the Soul Society. A black winged insect, the Jigokuchou (地獄蝶, Hell Butterfly) that only Shinigami are permitted to carry, is needed to pass through it. The hive of the Jigokuchou is located on 9th Division grounds.

  • The Dangai (断界, Precipice World) is the dimension used to journey to and from Soul Society, though Shinigami who have Jigokuchou do not use the Dangai to travel between Soul Society and the Living World. It is only used for that purpose by individuals who do not have a Jigokuchou.

  • Officers may only be promoted by the captain of the division, unless otherwise noted. Captains also have the power to promote members of their division to the same seat.

  • Excluding the district names given in the Bleach series, there are no specific names for the districts of the Rukongai. Only one district---the 58th district of South Rukongai known as Kanda (神田)---has been given an official canonized name in Halcyon Days. Writers are permitted to create their own names for unnamed district, though its canonization is subject to approval.

VIZARD

  • There are a plethora of different ways in which a Shinigami can become a Vizard; the method is up to the user, though, it is subject to approval/validity by both the Vizard GM and the overall GMs. The only person who ever truly figured out what makes a Vizard was Daedalus. Since his death, there are none alive who know what causes the infestation of an inner hollow, except that most often, it seems to slip in when the Shinigami is faced with a near-death experience.

  • As it stands, the Gotei 13 has issued a kill-on-sight order for the Vizard race if they are found in Soul Society. In the Living World and Hueco Mundo, there is a ceasefire.

  • A select few of the Vizard race are sheltered by the Cerberus organization, offering protection from any and all dangerous elements---including the Gotei 13 itself.

ADVENT HUMANS

  • The Initiative: Orpheus and Cerberus organizations hold sway with the governments established by humankind (i.e., the Japanese government), allowing them operate with a certain amount of impunity and without interference.

  • The main office of the chairman of the Cerberus Corporation is located in the Bay Complex, deep below Tokyo Bay.

QUINCY

  • As of the events of Schwarze Nacht (黒夜, Kokuyo, lit. "Black Night"), in which approximately 99% of the entire Quincy race was slaughtered by the Gotei 13 in one night, Quincy are no longer actively hunted by Shinigami; with their total population on the brink of extinction, Quincies no longer have a drastic effect on the balance of souls that would require a response from Soul Society. Shinigami are, however, required to subdue or neutralize them if they witness a Quincy exterminating a Hollow.

HOLLOWS

  • As of the death of the Primera (1st) Espada, Petycon, his engineered method of ascending from Menos to an Arrancar has been lost. Additionally, artificial shinigamification of hollows has been lost with the apparent destruction of the Hougyoku (崩玉, Crumbling Orb; lit. "Breakdown Sphere") with the Cero (0) Espada, Orcus. However, some hollows have proven capable of replicating the process on an instinctual level, though not to the same degree.

  • Vasto Lorde-class Menos are extremely rare, even in Hueco Mundo; as such, the creation/usage of Vasto Lorde-class NPCs is strictly prohibited.

MISCELLANOUS

  • While all spiritual races are generally faster than the average human, in terms of raw, unadulterated speed, Advent Humans are naturally faster than any other race. In terms of burst speed, however, Hirenkyaku is faster than Sonido and Sonido is faster than Shunpo.

The Maggot’s Nest and the 7th Division prison are completely separate; the former is located on 2nd Division grounds and is supervised by the Detention Unit of the Onmitsukidou.

There are actually four distinct penitentiaries.

Hachinetsu Jigoku, often referred to as simply 'the Prison,' is located below the Chamber of Forty-Six, accessible only by the Onmitsukidou's Detention Unit and those specifically designated by the Central Forty-Six. It has eight progressively deeper levels, with the Eighth level reserved for the worst criminals in the history of Soul Society.

The Enforced Criminal Service Compound, administered by the Seventh Division along with some Onmitsukidou supervision, is located on the eastern side of Seireitei. It is surrounded by bloodstone walls and used to house individuals who have committed crimes, but have been deemed to be victims of circumstance. Although this in no way excuses their actions, members of the ECS have the privilege of being able to take on dangerous missions in return for years off of their sentence.

The Senzaikyuu, or Shrine of Penitence, is a tower of bloodstone at the center of Seireitei, in the midst of the First Division. It towers above even the First Division's main tower and the observatory, overlooking the Soukyoku Hill. This tower is 'death row,' reserved for criminals sentenced to death, allowing them to reflect on their sins and view the execution grounds.

The Maggot's Nest can be thought of as an asylum. Located on the Second Division grounds, most of the complex is underground, with the entrance recessed against an outcropping of stone.

In addition, for minor crimes, every division has its own small set of jail cells; these are mainly used to house shinigami who cause misdemeanors like public drunkenness or petty assault.

The 13th Division is one of the larger divisions of the Gotei 13, consisting of around 1,000 soldiers.

In the past, but with its former captain missing, many of the more valuable shinigami were transferred to more active divisions.

The Gotei 13 is the largest military force in the Soul Society, followed by the Onmitsukidou, and the Kidou Corps.

The true size of the Kidoushuu is known only to the Kidoushuu, and they pointedly avoid referring to themselves as a military force.

There are a plethora of different ways in which a Shinigami can become a Vizard; the method is up to the user, though, it is subject to approval/validity by both the Vizard GM and the overall GMs.

This is more a matter of... the only person who ever truly figured out what makes a vizard was Daedalus.
