Roland Jaquez

tumblr_miv4z9GP4Z1r2upd6o1_1280.jpg

Name:
Roland Jaquez

Contact Info: AIM: secondgrifballer or Skype: Rambo McCarter

Age: 90

Physical Stature: Roland, as his age might suggest, is not a pretty sight. Scars and cuts are scattered throughout his form, and his movements are hampered by the slight stiffness of early arthritis. Even his clothes are old, with a bomber jacket from World War 2 thrown over the shoulders that he forces to stay straight. Underneath that lies a simple shirt, usually chosen from a series of ironed, short sleeve shirts that only differ in color.

The old man’s face, though covered in wrinkles, still bears the fruits of some maintenance. A neatly trimmed goatee surrounds his eternal scowl with its greyish-white whiskers, and determined eyes gaze at his surroundings underneath a wrinkled, bald head. A few small liver spots are visible in the corner of the agent’s brow, but he has yet to notice them himself.

At the present time, Roland is sick, his organs unable to bear the burden of countless explosions and a lifetime on the battlefield. Constant coughing, as well as repeated bloodloss, have given the bottom of his mouth a redstain. In addition, he walks with a cane, using the straight rod of polished wood to keep himself at least semi mobile.

Persona: Roland is old and bitter, like many Americans that live to be his age. He does not “get” the new generation, and especially hates a place as different as Japan. It makes him think the worst of random strangers, and causes him to be even more irritable, sometimes intentionally.

However, like a good soldier/spy, the man is dedicated, willing to do almost anything to increase the success of his mission, whatever it may be. Bribes, threats, blackmail, and many other things are all acceptable in his line of work. This very dedication, however, causes him to view his own life as expendable if it is lost for the sake of “the mission.”

This soldier life of his is not without its consequences. Roland, though not quite reluctant to create connections, realizes that any day, those connections could be severed, and as such, will often be uncaring or unsympathetic to the plights of others. They are still alive, after all, and in his eyes, that makes most problems, barring ones that specifically remind him of his own trials and tribulations.

Biography: Since the age of twenty, Roland has been fighting. World War Two, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, as well as countless brushfire wars in between, the man has been at least two wars on every continent in the Eastern Hemisphere. The battlefield was his home, and even though he did not like it at first, it suited him to have a place where he only had to worry about the things in his hands.

However, sometime in between the constant fighting, Roland stopped being a soldier for Uncle Sam and started being a spy for Orpheus. He had always been able to see ghosts, which was half-curse and half-blessing for a battlefield. The spirits’ knowledge, given to the man who actually acknowledged them, allowed him to live through battles, and this sight was what drew the budding organization to him.

This began a long and, surprisingly uninteresting, career for Roland. He fought in more battles, against spirits as often as humans, went in more places, and eventually, retired to an outpost in Africa.

However, now the old man is back out of retirement, coming back to Tokyo in an effort to chase down the group known as Chimera in an effort to locate a girl named Maria. He knows his life is nearing an end point, but that girl seems to mean everything to him, and he won’t rest until he frees her from a group that is, in his own words “just as bad as those Cerbie Dogs.”

Weapons of War

Initial Awakening

Name: No Man’s Land

Manfestation: While No Man’s Land has no obvious signs of activation, it has a few noticeable tells. Everyone within 10 meters of Roland can feel a bit of tenseness in the air, and the man himself stands a bit straighter, using his own legs instead of his cane to keep upright.

Ability - 0% Resonance - Rigged: Roland’s base power. By paying 2% or his total reiatsu, he can plant a small sphere of clear reishi on any surface within 5 meters of himself.. If anyone steps within a foot of the spot directly above that sphere, then it explodes violently, throwing energy up and creating an explosion with a radius of 2 meters. Roland can only make up to 2 mines per turn and he cannot have more than 1 mine per 500 reiatsu up at the same time.

If the user wishes, he may prematurely detonate the mines by paying an additional 1%. This, however, gives away their position, their rei presence flaring and their clear surface flashing purple before detonation.

Ability - 0% Resonance - Wired: By paying an additional 1% reiatsu, the elder agent can connect two mines, threading a fragile, monofilament wire between them. If this wire happens to be broken, then the two bonded mines fly from their concealing place, smashing together against whoever broke it and detonating. If a bonded mine is detonated without tripping the wire, then its partner automatically detonates too. The user can create one wire per 2,000 reiatsu, with a max of 5 bonds a 10,000 reiatsu.

Ability - 25% Resonance - Ready: Roland’s greatest deception. By paying 100 rei per moved mine, he can reposition any currently existing mines, moving them from their old location to any other spot on the same surface. If he moves a bonded pair, then that pair must stay bonded, and the mines move at a speed relative to his Fortitude stat, but will not detonate in mid-movement. This power can only be used once per turn.

Upgrades

Name: The Bionic Uninhibited Shooter Technology Experiment for Retirees (B.U.S.T.E.R)

Tier: C

Description: The B.U.S.T.E.R is, at it’s core, a replacement arm. Though mechanical in nature, this sleek metallic machine contains extensive wiring within, allowing it the normal sensitivity of a real human arm (albeit with a little numbness), as well as a similar dexterity and range of motion. Small tube run up and down the arm, connecting the hand to multiple bulges along the upper arm and shoulder. The hand and forearm is segmented in multiple parts, allowing pieces to be broken and moved in order to accommodate its main function (see below.)

Ability: The real power behind the B.U.S.T.E.R. isn’t its near perfect recreation of the human arm. It’s the immense versatility that has been imbued into it. By downloading select blueprints of Orpheus firearms and ammo types, the arm can then replicate them, feeding nanomachines from the various bulges into the tubes. Once they reach the elbow portion of B.U.S.T.E.R, the nanomachines then activate, moving and adding the modular section until the entire lower arm is transformed into an almost perfect copy of the appropriate weapon with the correct ammo type.

Weapons created this way are fired mentally, but have a moment of “charge up time” before firing. Roland must pay 100 reiatsu every time he wishes to modify his weapon, and B.U.S.T.E.R. can only change weapon from once a turn, and ammo form once a turn. He must have the a weapon equipped in his inventory as a “blueprint” in order to use it with B.U.S.T.E.R., and “blueprint” weapons may not be used normally, though they cost the same amount as a normal weapon.

Zanpaktou-core rounds may not be replicated due too their scarce nature and unique construction.

Acquisition: Roland was heavily injured during the tournament between the Seireitei and Earth, and his old body almost succumbed to his wounds. Thinking fast, the 9th joined together with the humans to create mechanized parts in order to replace Roland’s failing organic ones. B.U.S.T.E.R. was an additional, experimental “upgrade” given to him in the process.
