The area inside the arena had been warmed and dried of all the snow. Only the cold air was left to bother our fighters on this day. Nodding to the gate guards from inside the captain's box, the doors swung open and the crowd began to pour into the stands once more. The familiar noise of mumbled cheers increasing the tension in the air. Jubei smiled a little as the crowd began to settle and the fighter's doors swung open creakily.

As with the previous Sou Kyouko battle, a single figure sat high up in the stands just under a ledge, and hence shaded in darkness.

Beside the figure sat a pure white fairy. Well, not 'white' but pinkish white.

Munching on a thick bar of chocolate, the figure nuzzled further into her silver-purple haori and whispered a quick, "Good luck guys!" such that only the fairy would hear.

Diaz approached the Sou Kyouko hill, his bracers reflecting a bit of light while he moved. He didn't have his sword with him today, which made him a bit antsy.

Diaz felt uncomfortable without his sword, but knew he wasn't allowed to carry it. Diaz knew Hiana Maisaku was fighting today, and felt the need to actually show up for one of the Sou Kyouko fights. She's in my division, after all.

Entering the stands, Diaz decided to sit near the front. He adjusted his Vice Captain badge on his right arm. Diaz had taught Mai a new kidou spell just before the fight, and hoped she'd remember how to use it properly. "Let's go, Mai!" Diaz cheered.

Asagao staked out a seat for himself not far from Diaz and sprawled in it. From the folds of the red cloak that was still draped over the Shinigami, making him a block of colour in the seating, two little jade eyes were also taking in the spectacle of the arena with innocent anticipation.

Takero sat upon the crowds of the stadium. In front of him was a view of the arena that he fought in a week ago. "Sitting here feels different from fighting in side there..."

Takero knew that Shimizu, his opponent, a couple of days ago was fighting today and he decided to cheer for the guy. He stood up from his seat and shouted out to fighters! "Go Shimiz~~"
Takero saw a flyer that shows the picture of the other shinigami who was fighting.

*Gasp* She's... wow..." Takero struggled for a bit of whom to cheer on...

Shimizu or the lovely shinigami. Not much a choice but he decided and shouted. "Go Hian~~ Shimizu!!!"

The day had finally come.. It had been expected for almost a week now, and now, finally the girl was standing in the corridor, hidden by the huge doors in front of her which led to the Soukyoku fighting arena.

The cold was burning at her, though it felt so comfortable..

Suddenly, the doors opened and Mai took in a deep breath, preparing herself. Stepping out onto the snow-covered grounds, she looked around seeing people cheering around on the stands.

Narrowing her eyes at a comment towards her, Mai smiled as she saw Diaz cheering for her. She waved at him slightly and turned back into her own world.

Blushing a bit at the attention given by everyone in the arena, she closed her eyes and exhaled before opening them again, a confident smirk on her lips as she positioned her hands at her hips.

Takuya ruffled his hair pacing back and forth before the mammoth wooden doors. He was in the cover of darkness, in preparation to enter the legendary hills of Sou Kyouku where mighty warriors stood triumphantly on the plateaus of Soul Society and where spectators bore witness to their strength. Takuya was nervous, surely he was not one of these warriors and his quivering hands were evidence.

He took a deep breath ensure his mind was clear before he stepped into the cold Autumn air within the arena. He turned around listening to the loud screams and chants of thousands. He messed his hair up again shaking off some worry.

This is so unnecessary... to fight.

As his thought completed, the gargantuan doors burst open; light slivering into the darkness of the corridor in which he stood.

His lip quivered slightly as the powerful columns of cold air blasted into his face pushing him back against the walls. He heard the announcer's voice echo through the small corridor and decided it was time for him to walk out the marbled archway towards the center of the stadium.

The stadium was packed, although it was a chilly autumn day; the sun beamed its warmth down onto the valiant stadium. He bowed down in proper conduct. The noise began to overwhelm him as he wobbled around at the volume from the crowd. He turned towards his opponent with a dreary face; a look that clearly suggested that he did not want to be here. He was taken back and surprised at the beauty of his opponent.

"Hiana Maisaku..."

She was slightly taller than him and possessed tender complexion. Her fiery red hair glowed vividly under the gaze of the sun. He quivered a bit before attempting to throw a fake smile as his senses succumbed to the reality of this situation.

"I am going to have to fight...her."

Jubei raised a hand from within the silence of the empty captain's box. He cleared his through a little through the microphone, calling for silence.

"The cold grip of death hangs in the air on this day. Let these warriors show that they control this cold. Let them show that they shall not fear the trials we all shall face. Let them show us there metal and show us why we are proud to call them comrade!... Let the battle COMENCE!"

Jubei sat back down to watch as the crowds cheers light the room like a bonfire! The cold air meant nothing to the crowd. The excitement being all they needed to keep them warm.

Glancing up at the man who had spoken, Mai put her hands behind her head lazily as she turned her gaze back to the guy in front of her.

"Shimizu Takuya.."

Having said his full name as to get his attention, she noticed his features. His grey-silvery hair was brushing around his face as the cold wind stung at their faces.
His dark eyes felt penetrating, though Mai simply smiled. While someone would find this cold air and atmosphere uncomfortable, Mai was rather enjoying it.. Bowing to him, she closed her eyes once more.

"Let's have a good one, ne~?"
Straightening herself up, she winked at him as she said this and stuck out her tongue playfully. In situations like this, Mai couldn't help but becoming slightly unserious..

Before knowing it herself, Mai had leaped from her spot and into the air.. Drawing out Yukihari in one long fluid motion, she held onto it tightly as she charged towards Takuya, directing a vertical slash at his chest.

"Sure" Takuya laughed and puzzled as she stuck her tongue out at him. He found her to be quite adorable.

He blinked and took a deep breath to clear his mind as she began to charge at him.

"She's fast..."

He stepped back slightly as the sharpness of her blade drew closer to his chest.

"So quickly? I was thinking we could enjoy the moment"

He put his right hand on the hilt of his zanpakutou, swiftly with much force unsheathing it to meet her deadly blow. He sighed as their two swords clashed with one another, the sound of metal ringing as they met. The cool wind blew bringing a calm relief to his body in the heat of this situation. He was now clear of his actions as he lifted his left hand and pointed it at Hiana's right leg chanting:
"With gentle snow and frosty ice, freeze the pain and blood of this wound with the strength of the cold... Chiyudo no yon, Kajikamu."

Smirking as the metal of their swords clashed, Mai kept pushing down on him as good as she could.Persistent..

Widening her eyes as she heard him start the chant, she jumped off from him and did a back flip in the air, landing on the ground, around 5 feet away from him.

The spell had gotten her leg a bit.. ****.. Chiyudo, huh? At the spot where he had pointed the spell, Mai could feel a small pressure, though she didn't want to think too much about it already..

"That was a good one.." she half-shouted to him over the crowd. She had to give him credit for it.

"Not good enough though.."

Grinning, she stretched out her arm towards Takuya. Her favourite spell she thought..
"Frosty breath of the water serpent brush over my foe. Crack the flesh and chill the bone.."

Water seemed to start forming her palm as she chanted. Now it was forming a sphere, a perfect round sphere full of frosty water.

"Hadou #17, Ice Water!"

The sphere was then released with insane speed at her opponent. She hadn't seen many avoid it easily when she had used it.. Maybe that was why she was so fond of it.. Or maybe it was just because it was an ice type..
She giggled at these thoughts.

Takuya was surprised at the quick reflexes of Hiana. He back stepped a few, creating some distance between the two fighters in the grand stadium. He stepped to the side pacing slowly as she complimented him on his kidou. He replied in a smile before being caught off guard by the magnitude and speed of her kidou

Damn it... He thought barely able to evade it as he shynpo'd next to her. His shoulder, however had been skimmed by the icy claws of the kidou. He felt it as the rigid texture of frost scathed the cloth exposing it to the cold air.

She's a true ice user... unlike myself...

He stepped behind her quickly discharging two slashes hoping they would connect before stepping in front of her and slashing again.

I'll have to fight at a closer range...

Mai gaped at his ability to evade her kidou, and inside she felt surprised though she thought it was admirable.

Following him with her eyes, she had seen and felt him come for her.

Gasping when one of the slashed hit her back, she quickly turned around and parried the second slash, before turning back and parrying that slash with an uppercut with her sword. The cold metal clashed, making a ringing sound as they stood locked there.

Winking at him, she held up her other hand in front of her mouth.

"Hand of god, come down and bind the demon. Lock away they appendages, and seal their malevolent nature. Bakudou #2, Double Obstruction!"

As the chant ended, she could see that the spell had probably worked, but she knew it wouldn't last for long, so she had to be quick. Attempting to slash down at both of his shoulders as Diaz had taught her, Mai directed a slash at his chest again hoping for it to hit, before jumping away from him. Best to stay out of reach..

Takuya panted and winced in pain as one of the slashes sank deep into his shoulder, blood flowing out into the cold. He screamed increasing his spiritual pressure to break the bonds of this kidou, allowing him to dodge the next fatal blow.

How troublesome...

Blood dripped from his left shoulder onto the frozen soil.

And it has to come to this...

"With gentle snow and frosty ice, freeze the pain and blood of this wound with the strength of the cold... Chiyudo no yon, Kajikamu" He pointed it at his shoulder sealing the blood which dripped profusely out of the open wound. The wound clotted up bringing relief to his shoulder.

He backed off a bit planning the next moves he would be taking.

Must immobilize her somehow... it is getting troublesome, this situation He closed his eyes deciding that may be less distracting.

He sensed her reiatsu and headed right and left, dashing back and forth before shyunpoing behind Hiana, shouting, "SEIJAKU DE IKARIKURE, KAIJIN NO BUYOUKA", releasing his shikai and sinking his watery blade down directed at Hiana's right leg.

Eyes widening at the sudden release of his Shi Kai as it sounded like, she turned just in time to see that he slashed at her leg. Wincing, she stood still... but.. there was no pain..? Opening her eyes again, she remembered that he had numbed that leg a while ago.. He had made a mistake..

Chance!

"Koumuru kara Kaze no Koori ~ Yukihari!!"
Mai's sword started to glow a bright red as it started to transform. It split and twisted so it finally became its true form. Mai could feel the chill from her blade run through her as she took in a deep breath.

Standing right in front of Takuya, Mai smiled lightly and drew a circle in the air which started to glow red, and soon it started to form it's self into a rather large ball of reiatsu which fired at Takuya with insane speed as the kidou from before had done.. This one might actually have gone faster.

Thanks for casting Kajikamu on me Takuya.. she mused in her head.

He watched as the ball came glaring into him directly. He flew backwards in the air at the force of the impact unable to dodge it. He landed his feet holding ground on the floor to stop the propulsion. He stood pained by the impact

He took a breather before running towards Hiana slashing, but she blocked with each thrust. He stepped backwards, shynpoing to her backside, thrusting his left elbow towards her back and slashing downwards on her right leg once again with his zanpaku.

Gasping for air as his elbow came in contact with the back of her lungs really; she turned and shot a glare at him as he was trying to slash her leg again.

Oh no you don't..!

Shyunpoing away from him this time, she re-appeared 3 feet behind him, where she stood her ground and started chanting.

"Frosty breath of the water serpent brush over my foe. Crack the flesh and chill the bone..Hadou #17, Ice Water!"

Once again she had created the perfect sphere in her palm, and as the chant ended it shot out of her palm towards Takuya's back, though she was aiming at his legs this time. A plan had conjured up in her mind, and she'd do whatever it took to make it happen.

Takuya saw as the sphere formed once again shynpoing away, just in time to dodge it as the sphere crashed into the hard earth splitting it. He took a breather, panting heavily at the closeness of this situation

Kidou... I'll be sure to brush up on that...

He continued to pant, the sun rays shining down on his face. A few minutes have already passed and Takuya was feeling his wound resurfacing slightly. He side stepped running towards Hiana before stopping right in front of her, using his leg as a pivot and digging his sword into the ground creating a cloud of dust to conceal his appearance. As he ran in a diffused and random pattern he kept his blade into the dirt, cutting it and sweeping dust into the air. As he did this he watched her look around and shynpo'd one meter into her vicinity kneel concealed under the risen columns of dust. He went forward with a powerful slash on her right leg before shynpoing to the opposite side, doing the same action, before sprinting away back into the clouds of dust.

Mai looked around frantically as she tried to spot him through the dust. **** it.. he's just too fast..

Suddenly she felt that he was right behind her and she didn't have time enough to turn and ward off the attack, so this time he hit her both times, and she crouched down, holding her leg.

This is bad..She could feel something inside her leg.. Exactly what his Shi Kai did,s he didn't know.. Why he kept aiming at her right leg, and at the same spot.. she had no clue.. all she did know, was that she had to keep him from doing it..

Panting slightly, she tried to stand up; Mai gripped Yukihari firmly in her right hand as she jumped up on one of the nearby cliffs.

The leg in question was feeling rather dull and it would become a problem soon. He was way above her, but she took it as a chance to pause herself and think up a new plan.

Takuya looked down at the clouds of dust catching his breath. He was beginning to be exhausted all the running was wearing him out. He sighed and concentrated focusing his spiritual energy, preventing it from spilling randomly. He looked down noticing the dust was clearing and quickly jumped behind a frozen column of sand to conceal himself and think of the next move.

Mai focused her sight upwards as the dust started to clear up, and finally she saw just in time that his figure jumped down behind a column of sand.

Starting to draw a circle in the air, Mai wanted to use her Shi Kai in her new plan.

The circle was glowing a bright red before transforming into a small red ball of reiatsu. She slashed vertically down on it and it fired towards the frozen column, though in the meantime, she was preparing something new.

"Hand of god, come down and bind the demon. Lock away they appendages, and seal their malevolent nature. Bakudou #2, Double Obstruction!"

She sent the Bakudou towards the column as well; hoping it would hit him after her ball of reiatsu had crushed the frozen column of sand.

As he panted he heard a familiar voice chanting a spell. He swore slightly jumping towards running covertly to the next pillar, hearing the last one crumble under the force of her spell. He moved quickly crawling behind a small hill which concealed him creeping around to her back, for a possible element of surprise.

This isn't going to work

As the dust from the fallen column cleared up Takuya jammed his zanpaku into the ground just like before running towards and then dashing in separate directions rising a cloud of dust up into the hair again. He coughed as some particles went into his lungs but jumped out nonetheless from the scene to the far end of the stadium against the marbled walls.

He thought momentarily wondering if this would be a good time to attack and decided it was. He dashed towards Hiana with the sword still lunged into the ground regulating his speed and causing a brown trail behind him. He raced into the dust cloud, his speed creating an opening for him. He saw Hiana but instead created a plan.

" Perhaps... if I can raise enough dust I can confuse her of my location... from all directions."

He burst out of the center where Hiana stood and quickly sprinted to create another trail of dust so that a cross shape could be seen from the audience with a circle in the middle.
He caught his breath somewhat and closed his eyes, unable to see Hiana and instead chose to sense her spiritual pressure.

He ran towards her again appearing behind her, an attempt to blindly slash at her right leg and backing out of the cloud.

When Takuya made the trails of dust and she felt him behind her, Mai suppressed her reiatsu and started to whisper so only she could hear herself.

"The body runs cold, the sins clear in the liquids cold reflection. Judgment divine. Bakudou #17, Ice Prison!!"

Stomping her foot into the ground, it started to rumble as it advanced on Takuya, and finally a geyser of ice sprouted out from the ground and caught his legs in it's icy grasp.
Turning, Mai whispered again.

"Thor's pride springs forth from me. The power of the skies give me strength. The driving will cutting through my enemies. Hadou #24, RAIGEN!!!!"

Reaistu started to form around her arm, and it fired towards Takuya. In the meantime, Mai drew a circle in the air with her sword and fired the ball of reiatsu at him as well.

As a last thing, Mai shyunpoed towards him, directing the split blades at both of his legs. She was using a lot of power right there, but it was necessary.

God this was much.. but please work!

Takuya looked back surprised as she appeared in front him. He took his zanpaku and concentrated much of his reiatsu into it to retain it in a solid form, using it to block the blast of the raigen and being pushed back at the backslash of the force releasing him from the icy hands of ice prison. He looked at Hiana as she appeared to where he was and stood up charging towards he and slashing down once again.

Mai got hit by his slash, and blood gushed out from the cut over her collarbone. She winced in pain and almost screamed before putting her hand over it.Glaring at him, she started the chant again.

"Frosty breath of the water serpent brush over my foe. Crack the flesh and chill the bone.."

After the initial chant, she shyunpoed behind him and stood with her palm outstrectched towards him with the sphere.

"Hadou #17, Ice Water!"

Releasing the sphere, she knew it was gonna be draining and that she couldn't take much more.

Takuya panted tired by the duration of this match. He stood again surprised by her attack. He attempted to use his zanpakutou to block it, but the attempt was in vain. The sphere hit him sending him as he flew back hitting a stack of rocks. He coughed out some blood before pointing at the cut he had just created, sealing the wound temporarily. "With gentle snow and frosty ice, freeze the pain and blood of this wound with the strength of the cold... Chiyudo no yon, Kajikamu"

"You know... we should get this over with quickly, the duration of ten minutes has almost been spent and your leg... should be in pain at the end of it."

He coughed out before standing up again. He closed his eyes and concentrated his reiatsu and looked over her body with healing sight for a weakness.

" The leg would require one more blow before its immobile..." He saw as blood cells continuously ruptured in the small artery of his blows. He nodded at his plan and rushed towards Hiana somewhat slower. As he entered her vacnity, he placed a step back as he had done throughout the dual to get behind her, but instead stayed forward slashing at her right leg hoping it hit, before jumping back into a defensive stance panting, small amounts of blood leaking form his lips.

T-ten.. minutes..? What ten minutes? Mai thought frantically, though after a few seconds, her question had been answered.

A powerful pain in her leg started to spread and she screamed out. This made her mind go blank and she raised her sword to do the combo Diaz had taught her. Being totally blank, she couldn't tell if she was hitting the right places or not, she just hit as fast and as powerful as she could.

Then suddenly.. her body became limp and she fainted from the pain in her leg. Her read hair was splayed around on the ground where she was lying.. Yukihari had slipped from her grasp and this was definitely the end..

Guess.. that was that..

Takuya took a deep breath clearing his mind then surprised at the pitch of her scream as she charged towards him. He breathed deeply as she approached him.

He attempted to block her slashes but they dug deep into his flesh, blood gushing out spraying into the air like the rain of tar. The blood splattered everywhere. The ground was soaked with red.

Takuya refocused his eyes weakly blocking the last few attacks in vain. As she collapsed he looked downwards, he was light headed, his eyes blurred as he placed his zanpakutou down to support himself. His reiatsu was almost completely depleted.

He reached out his hand pointing it at her right leg, chanting "With gentle snow and frosty ice, freeze the pain and blood of this wound with the strength of the cold... Chiyudo #4, Kajikamu." a few short moments passed before he fell back, the wind blowing under him as his blood spilled into the air.

" How troublesome... at least it's over... "

" finally."

His body hit the ground onto the cold and barren icy soil, the warmth of blood spilling out from the various numbers of fatal wounds he had received.

Diaz was already in motion, vaulting over the rail that separated the stands from the battlefield. The instant his feet hit the ground; Diaz was already using shyunpo to appear by Mai's side. "Mai-Chan, it's alright I'm here for you." Diaz whispered as he knelt beside her, raising his hands over her fallen body. "Chiyudo #50, Seimei Bifuu." Diaz whispered the spell, slowly healing Mai's external injuries.

Diaz rotated his body to face the other warrior, his eyes glaring at him ominously. It was taking all of Diaz's willpower to resist raising his hand and using Soukatsui or Altar to deal with him. He knew that he was nearly as dangerous without his sword as he was with it, but he also knew, as a Vice Captain, performing something as rash as that would be a foolish move. Diaz breathed out silently, turning back to Mai. "Are you alright, Mai-chan?" Diaz asked quietly.

Hearing a familiar voice beside her, Mai found that she could open her eyes slightly. Her vision was still blurred though, but she could recognize the man; it was Diaz...

"Yeah..." she whispered out in a beat up voice." A little sore, but fine..." she smiled as much as she could and closed her eyes slightly again.

"Good, Mai-chan... you did will. I'll teach you more, later. When you're ready to learn." Diaz smiled as he lifted Mai up and waited for Jubei to finish his announcement before taking her back to the 5th division, or the 3rd if she needed healing.

Jubei stood up and looked down upon the traitorous battle field as the cold air blew through the arena. The crowd was slowly growing louder and louder as there cheers filled the stadium. The medical teams were rushing to the aid of the fighters who both lay sprawled across the floor.

"Draw..." Jubei declared across the megaphone system hooked up through out the coliseum. Jubei could see the fighters being carried out through the pieces of rubble that had once been there fighting ground. They had both learned a lesson here today, one they would soon not forget.
