Name: Tabawara Udo

Contact Info: phoreaper@gmail.com - AIM and Google Docs

Age: 110

Physical Stature:

Udo is a five foot nine tall male appearing in his thirties with a lean build. Udo has violet eyes and short, scruffy light green hair. The choice of hairstyle is because he's not interested in styling it. He wears a standard shihakusho. When Udo's not working, he's usually slumped back in a chair with his hands behind his head, unless trying to make someone feel better in which case he leans forward and has his arms in front of him. He crosses his arms when he's concerned about something.

Persona:

Udo became a shinigami because he wanted to explore abilities, both those of others and his own. Since then, he has discovered that helping his friends is more important to him. He'll never turn down after-mission drinks and tends towards the food at get-togethers. Udo doesn't like seeing someone miserable, so he'll take them out for a drink. He started with high confidence, but since then it has been challenged. His mindset is gradually developing towards one slightly more thoughtful. Udo likes winning. Debates, skirmishes, showing off. Probably some manly ego thing. This reaper follows the important rules, but doesn't worry about those he considers minor, like liquor restrictions. Whereas some people are perfectionists, Udo knows that stuff only needs to be fit-for-purpose. His main strength and weakness are two sides of the same coin - he works on what's he's interested in, and doesn't work on what he's not interested in.

Biography

Tabawara Udo came into this world in the 50th district of West Rukongai. He lounged around, drank, and lounged around some more, just like most other Rukongai residents. His first recorded use of spiritual power was generating some ligh to find a child's lost ball. Udo was spotted by a shinigami who happened to be nearby, and was convinced to join the academy. In his six years at the academy, Udo learnt that he sucks at hakuda, and that drunk teachers are lenient graders.

Upon graduating, Udo went straight into the Ninth Division. Some time after his captain had disappeared, the reaper decided that his conscience would be appeased by fighting on the front lines, instead of staying back in the lab. He consequently transferred to the Eighth Division, where he's now learning that he's not quite as strong as he wants to be. His current fixation is hunting a "family" of hollows which have similar abilities, because the similarity must lead to something, right?

Sample Chapter - Back Again?

NB: This follows on from a collab I'll post once my app is approved.

One moment Adelaide was in front of him, the next she was gone. The graveyard was still there, the night was still there, and as Udo looked around he saw that four of the angel statues were still there. So much was unchanged, and yet...

Crap.

The depressing moment of realisation hit the reaper like a bag of sand. Right behind him stood the burnt and broken remains of the fifth statue, the one that previously lived. In the moment Adelaide had managed to hit and kill the weeping angel, it had closed the distance to Udo and propelled him forward in time yet again. Why it-

"Wee-oo! Wee-oo! Wee-oo!" screamed a horn, red lights flashing paths across the tombstones. Before the spell-blade could even find the darn thing, it fell silent, and a senkaimon opened in front of him. Udo sheathed his blade, lest he get on the bad side of whoever came through. As his eyes adjusted to the bright light, a woman about his age, with "great tracts of land," as they say, came through and said, "We've been waiting for you, Tabawara-san."

The sword-mage opened his mouth in shock and attempted to make words, but he wasn't given the time for that. The lady said, "I'm Hasegawa Mino, a member of the Ninth Division. We found it awfully convenient that you wanted to get hands-on with this project, so we stood back and collected data while you threw yourself into the thick of it. You made an excellent source of primary data!"

Mino's face radiated with joy, thankful for the information she got from a willing, perhaps uninformed, test subject.

Udo's brain started ticking over as he figured out what Mino was saying, and he got as far as saying, "So you-"

Cutting him off again, the researcher said, "That first trip of yours gave us information we needed to figure out what was happening, and your second trip confirmed our data. We knew you would return where you left, so I set up this little alarm here to let me know when you got back. A lovely piece of hardware, isn't it?"

The Sixth Seat considered speaking, but waited a bit to see if he was going to get cut off again. Clearly the woman was very happy about the success of her experiment, and had no concern for the fact that the officer had effectively not existed for who knows how long. He finally said, "Uh yeah... it did its job. So what happens now?"

His "rescuer," for lack of a better word, replied, "Well, this lovely little device in my hand tells me that you are you, thanks to the bioinformatic records from your time in the division, so you can go back to work."

Udo wondered, Huh. Is this how a lab rat feels when it gets the cheese at the end of the maze?

He expected a smart reply from his zanpakutou, but instead, nothing. It would be safe to guess that Space Ratchet was busy, analysing any data he may have collected from the experience. Come to think of it, having a drink before getting back to work would be nice...

Udo's eyes wandered like a shy child about to ask for something, and he said, "Soo... Hasegawa-san, would you like a drink when we get back?"

Mino looked him over and hummed, deciding whether or not this man was worth her time. She hadn't heard anything bad about this one, so one drink couldn't hurt, right?

"Okay, deal."

The pair stepped into the light between a pair of ornate paper doors, and straight out of the Ninth Division Senkaimon - the one that Mino had used. There was a bit more hustle and bustle than last time Udo was there - maybe they had a new boss?

The pair slipped away from the gate behind a large container before anyone could ask any questions, and made their way along a well-trodden, but well-hidden, path to the nearest pub. Mino's shoulder-length golden hair swung from side to side as she darted around corner after corner, following the path of those who wanted a drink before their actual commitments.

Eventually the two reapers popped out of an alley next to the Sleeping Wolf Inn, which must have been named ironically judging by how noisy it was. A happy noise, though. The pair found themselves a nook in the corner and Udo grabbed a couple drinks for them. He leaned back in his chair, comfortable in a familiar place, and said, "It's an awfully convenient coincidence that we both like the same watering hole eh?"

Mino perked up and said, "Oh? have you collected enough information to support the claim that this coinciding of interests is genuinely coincidental?"

The blade-mage leaned in closer and said, "Admittedly there could be confounding factor that contraindicates corroboration of that claim. I like how a drink or two helps people relax. And you?"

"The same. Therefore your initial supposition is incorrect."

Mino smirked at Udo, enjoying the wordplay and glad she won. Udo threw his hands in the air and said, "Alas, I am defeated! To atone for my sin I shall venture forth to the proprietor of the establishment to acquire further fluid nutrition!"

Fully in the mood of this social haunt now, the former researcher made his way through the crowd to fetch more drinks for himself and his new companion. A couple hours flew past, the pair chatted about nothing meaningful whatsoever, and finally they decided it was time to report in before anyone started getting concerned. Not wanting to turn up on Kago's doorstep drunk, Udo popped one of his secret little anti-hangover pills with his last mouthful, before the pair started their journey back to responsibility. A true gentleman, he gave Mino one as well.

Blissfully unaware of anything and everything that had and hadn't happened during his absence, Udo wandered back into his division yet again, like a tomcat that disappears for days at a time and thinks nothing of it.

Physical: If I read your writing and your postures are off, there's gonna be problems.

Persona: Udo likes winning. Debates, skirmishes, showing off.

This should be combined into one sentence, as the second sentence is incomplete.
Udo likes winning, debates, skirmishes and showing off.

It's okay, content-wise.

Biography: This is alright.

Stats: Yeppers.

Chapter: I feel like I stepped into the end of something interesting. When you say follows, you really did mean immediately afterwards. It was a fun chapter in it's own right, however. The start felt mysterious, but it suddenly cut to Shinigami antics. It felt a bit jarring, but I suppose it might make more sense with the preceding collab. The character interaction between Udo and Mino was fun.

I see your character shifting around in the chair. I'm keeping an eye on it.

You should go post in the Final Drafts thread.
