Physical Stature
: Adelaide is not the most average heighted person she knows, but if she was ever-so-slightly taller probably would be. Lacking a memorable height, she makes up for it with fire-red hair down to her shoulders; fine, and soft to the touch; very Western traits for a really quite Western sort of girl. Her hair is shorter than it used to be, with a more shattered and jagged style than straight and delicate. Adelaide tends to wear some manner of affectation, though it changes rather too frequently. She always wears her black choker with a ruby-and-sapphire Reminiscence on it, but her other affectations vary wildly.

Sometimes a hat, sometimes an ostentatious pendant, but always something that probably violates some manner of what she ought to be wearing in some way. This is all in addition to the brilliant and sparking emerald hue her eyes have, like gemstones in milky-white and beset into her skull by some mad genealogist. Except not quite like that. She carries her Zanpakutou either on her right hip or, oftentimes when not in training or combat, on a sling over her back.

Persona: Adelaide likes affectations. She will regularly call attention to her affectations subconsciously by fiddling with them when lost in thought. Which is a lot. Seriously, a lot. She’d make a great tactician if she ever was lost in thought about anything overly important. Sadly, this is not the case as often as it might be. Then again, she has been known to be analytical of her surroundings when the moment called for it, once in a while. Adelaide treats combat like chess, preferring to measure moves and countermoves in a predictive manner in order to come to a decision as to what to do, befitting her deep analytical nature. However, lacking significant practical experience she will often misjudge her opponent's counters, leaving her prone to ruining her own machinations. With practice, however, she expects to hone this skill.

This analytical side of her persona is in rather humorous discord with the other prevailing attitude she possessed: one of irreverent carefree sarcasm. Beyond observation, and a lack thereof, she often exhibits a sharp wit and a remarkable ability to say something she finds funny without letting her better judgment shut her up. While she can control her tongue with considerable focus, she is very prone to think and act without prior thought causing situations that she then needs to focus considerable attentions on. Her whimsy also manifests itself in other ways. She often tries to be adorable, especially when sleepy, which sometimes saves her form the wrath triggered by other personality traits. Sometimes it makes things worse. This is not to make it sound as though Adelaide has no professional side to her, but more often than not doesn’t figure being serious is important. Her entire lifestyle boils down to simply, "What is the point of growing up if you can’t act like a kid sometimes?”

In recent months, since her encounter with the human who slew some of the Central Forty-Six, Adelaide has developed deepening self-doubt and anxiety about her position in the Gotei. She feels intense guilt about her inability to act during the event and it has prompted her to be far more deep and serious on the job.

Biography
: Adelaide was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of her burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner. Adelaide was dead as a doornail.

Wait, no, that's from Charles Dickens.

Still, it was true for Adelaide. She died in England. Why did she die in England? Because she lived in England, obviously. Honestly, she wasn’t all too sure why she died, but she was sure it had been in England. She suspects that her spiritual affinity for Fire correlates to a death in the burning of the Palace of Westminster, but knows nothing of the event other than that a place called "The Palace of Westminster” was burned, so she has filled in the situation with a myriad of details she thinks to be appropriate. She has come to believe that she ran into the flames to help those trapped inside.

Her life before her death, however hard for her to recall, has had considerable impact on her current state of affairs. Her love of philosophy was born from a well-educated youth, especially in the area of philosophy. Christine de Pizan's definitive work "The Book on the City of Ladies" shaped Adelaide's dreams as a child and inspired her to become a warrior-poet-like scholar and soldier as she is today.

While she made it look like she acclimated well to being dead (enjoying the phrase "You only live... never mind”) she had a bit of a hard time learning about the Soul Society. Despite two centuries of afterlife, Adelaide only learned more than conversational Japanese when she enrolled in the Academy as a means to fit in better with the upper echelons of the Gotei. And Soul Society had a hard time learning about her, taking almost a hundred years longer than normal to find her spiritual potential. She did complete the Academy in due order, but she was something of a late bloomer, in terms of her capabilities.Perhaps it was because of this that upon entry into the Gotei she began rocketing forward in terms of her capabilities achieving shikai in a matter of two weeks post-graduation and being propelled to "up-and-comer" status in her division. She sought to become part of the Eighth Division in order to become a strong magic-user and honor her Zanpakutou, which seems to be a pretty nice sword. Probably. Hopefully.

A complete record of her history after joining the Gotei can be found at the Halcyon Days Wiki.

Adelaide also founded House Pierce, a Noble House of Nearer Rukongai based out of the Second District of West Rukongai.

Techniques
General

Gigaihyou [Righteous Corpse Possession]
An important survival skill taught to all Shinigami, which entails the utilization, maintenance, and protocols concerning Gigai. This also includes the usage of all developed tools that accompany the use of a Gigai, such as the Gikongan.
Requirements: None

Konsou [Soul Burial]
One of the Shinigami's inherent skills. Konsou entails the liberation of a Plus soul by stamping the kashira of the Zanpakutou upon his/her/its forehead, whereby the said Plus soul will be safely transported to Soul Society.
Requirements: None

Reiatsu Noukan [Spiritual Pressure Perception]
The heightened ability of a Shinigami to sense Reiatsu. Its potency and maximum range grows as the user's Shinigami level rises, and may become advanced enough that he or she may be able to single out the signature of a single entity within range. A target may choose to mask their signature, making their exact location difficult to ascertain. However, the presence of a strong fighter in combat is unmistakable. The user may only precisely identify targets up to a range determined by their Kidou stat. Until that point, the tracking merely gives a general area.
Requirements: Class S: 10 km / 5,000 Reiatsu / 10,000 Kidou

Reiraku Takan [Spiritual Thread, Deep Perception]
A special sensory skill reserved only for Shinigami whose capabilities have matured markedly. Reiraku Takan allows the Shinigami to deeply focus upon the spiritual signatures of all surrounding entities within a certain area and manually compress them all into different-colored "threads." The maximum range of this ability is the same as the Shinigami's highest Reiatsu Noukan range. This technique only identifies race, unless the target is within Reiatsu Noukan's range for precision.
Colors are as follows:
White : Normal soul, Plus soul, Quincy
Red : Shinigami, Unmasked Vizard
Black : Hollow
Dark Red : Arrancar, Masked Vizard
Requirements: 3,000 reiatsu

Chikaihou Shinou [Earthly Law Mastership]
Being dead is far different than living, as anyone in Soul Society can attest to, and one can sometimes bypass the physical laws of movement that one is normally accustomed to. True understanding as to what one can and cannot get away with is gained through experience.
This technique allows the user to condense reiatsu around their body or under their feet in the living world. This enables the user to slow their falls, extend their jumps, or even to stand in the open air. Shunpo cannot be used mid-air.
Requirements: 2,000 Reiatsu

Reiki [Spiritual Healing]
The most basic form of healing available to Shinigami. This technique is simply a method of flooding injuries with Reiatsu directed through the hands, stimulating the regeneration and repair of damaged tissue. While it is quite effective for small scratches and cuts, healing more serious wounds in this manner is extremely draining and time consuming. Cannot be used in battle and is mainly used to stabilize wounds until more serious healing can be applied.
Requirements: 1,000 Reiatsu

Fuubi [Overpower]
When a shinigami is restrained or bound and has been left with no other alternative, they can try to force their way out through sheer strength and raw reiatsu. This is dangerous for the user's soul, particularly against the demon arts. Such an effort requires at least 1.5x the cost of the restraint and causes severe pain to the user.
Requirements: 1,000 Reiatsu

Senkaimon Koshutsu [World-Piercing Gate Summoning]
The skill of opening, safely traversing through, and closing the Senkaimon allows the user to travel between Seireitei and the Living Realm. This entails drawing one's Zanpakutou, contracting it with an existing Senkaimon in Seireitei, and thrusting the weapon slowly through the air. A spatial distortion will appear where the Zanpakutou is "inserted," whereby the Shinigami will rotate the weapon like a key, hence opening up the Senkaimon. Note that in most circumstances, a personal Jigokuchou is required to safely travel through the Dangai. While the gates may appear anywhere in the living world as the user wishes, the gates within Seireitei are limited to specific fixed locations.
Requirements: Fifth Seat or Higher

Shirei Hatsuri [Command Bypass]
After achieving Ban Kai, the release phrase for Shikai is no longer necessary. This Technique allows the user to simply release his or her Shikai instantaneously through a higher bond achieved with his/her Zanpakuto.
Requirements: Bankai
Zanjutsu

Ittouryoudan [Cutting In Two With One Stroke]
A skilled swordsman holds no fear in the face of his enemy's attacks and may stand his ground against them. In this way, the swordsman can channel his spirit into his sword and slice straight through flames, water, or even raw energy. This splits the attack around the user.
Only possible against attacks up to twice the cost of Ittouryoudan, this technique costs 250 reiatsu to use.
Requirements: 1,000 Zanjutsu

Ijou Ittouryoudan [Exceeding Cutting In Two With One Stroke]
With greater mastery comes greater prowess. These Zanjutsu specialists are able to bring their true skill to bear when facing off against their enemies' attacks. Rather than merely splitting an attack, the user delivers a series of rapid attacks that utterly destroy the enemy's attack.
Usable against techniques and abilities up to twice the cost of Ijou Ittouryoudan, this technique costs 750 reiatsu to use.
Requirements: 3,000 Zanjutsu

Buzei [Outnumbered]
...but not out-manned. A difficult and risky maneuver, the practitioner accelerates their swing in order to deliver an attack on all sides. This allows the user to attack or defend against all attackers within range at half of their usual skill.
This maneuver costs 2,000 reiatsu and may leave the user tired, unable to perform similar techniques for two rounds.
Requirements: 5,000 Zanjutsu

Kawasu [To Turn Aside]
There are some attacks which cannot be stopped, and a master of his weapon recognizes that fact. However, that does not mean that he must submit to those attacks. By hardening his swordsman's spirit, the practitioner of this technique can parry a powerful blast, deflecting it away from himself and his allies.
This technique costs 3,000 reiatsu and only affects attacks up to twice as strong.
Requirements: 7,000 Zanjutsu

Senpuu [Whirlwind]
Mastery of fighting against the odds allows a Zanjutsu specialist to fight back at full strength, even when surrounded. Still risky and difficult, Senpuu allows the user to perform an omni-directional attack against every target within range, attacking and defending with the full skill of their Zanjutsu.
This costs 5,000 reiatsu and will leave the user wearied and unable to perform similar techniques for three rounds.
Requirements: 9000 Zanjutsu

Ei Wo Toru [To Take Up a Weapon]
To wield a zanpakuto in combat, to swing a blade with surety, requires conviction and dedication. Every swordsman has his purpose, whether it's for the sake of protecting others, proving his prowess to everyone, or sharing his personal undeniable truth. When there comes a moment when that truth, that purpose, the swordsman's very life is threatened... that is when his skill fully comes to bear.
Ei Wo Toru is the ultimate expression of the practitioner's zanjutsu, a single, nearly instantaneous counter-strike surpassing godlike speed. Used only for countering a direct threat, rather than amplifying the user's skill, strength, or damage, Ei Wo Toru is the ability to make a single strike against the odds. This move costs 10,000 reiatsu and allows the user to pull off otherwise impossible speed to counter. Attacks comparable to the user's Zanjutsu will practically stand still.
The user's Zanjutsu is increased by 10,000 for speed only (not strength) for one strike.
Requirements: 10000 Zanjutsu
Hakuda

NONE
Hohou

Shunpo [Flash Step]
A commonly taught skill for the Shinigami. Though it may be learned at an early level, mastering the technique is another story entirely. The initial level of shunpo is a burst of speed in a single, straight direction. As the user's skill in Hohou grows, they may learn more advanced techniques and maneuvers.
A basic flash-step costs 200 reiatsu, and can cover up to 15m. The user bursts in one direction at near-blinding speed, but is unable to attack or turn. The speed of the step is determined by the user's Hohou, and only those with at least 50% of the user's Hohou can visually keep up with the movement. If the user's hohou is comparable to an enemy's attacking stat, then they stand a good chance of being able to dodge with a shunpo.
Flash-steps are only usable once per turn, with an additional use per turn gained for every 5,000 Hohou.
Requirements: 1,000 Hohou

Shunpo Senmon [Flash Step Expertise]
The practitioner has grown familiar with the rush of motion and has learned how to maneuver during it. The user cannot reverse their direction, but they have some control over turning and positioning themselves strategically, though their turns cannot be greater than 60 degrees.
Requirements: 2,500 Hohou

Senka [Flash Blossom]
With their growing mastery of Shunpo, the user is now able to deliver a blindingly fast attack. In the middle of a flash-step, the practitioner may deliver two consecutive melee attacks to a target in their path.
This ability takes the place of two normal Shunpo uses and costs 500 reiatsu. It does not increase the user's skill in their attacking stat.
Requirements: 5,000 Hohou

Onsoku no Shunpo [Sonic Flash Step]
Through an intricate manipulation of acceleration and deceleration, the user is capable of creating a sonic boom at the mid-point of a standard Shunpo. This creates an intense concussive blast that hits everything within a 7.5m radius. The user ends Onsoku no Shunpo just outside the range of the attack.
If used in an area without enough space, the user will be hit by the blast as well.
This ability takes the place of two normal Shunpo uses and costs 2,000 reiatsu.
Requirements: 7,500 Hohou
Kidou

Eishouhaki [Revocation of the Recited Poem]
Allows the user to bypass of the chanting of a Kidou spell and simply state the name. However, this also results in a drop in the efficacy of the bypassed Kidou. A user can only bypass an incantation if their Kidou stat is at least twice the required cost of a spell, and a bypassed spell will only be half as effective as a properly-incanted one, regardless of prowess.
Requirements: 1,000 Kidou

Eishou Tekkin [Incantation Reinforcement]
By mentally reaffirming an incantation, the user of this technique can reinforce binding spells. The user may pay additional reiatsu to counter the natural weakening of a binding effect. This can only be applied to one binding per round, and only restores one round's loss.
This does not count against the user's kidou for that round.
Requirements: 2,000 Kidou

Jumon Kaiki [Spell Totality]
Through devoted study, a shinigami can gain greater control over a spell. This allows them to bypass the incantation with greater success.
By equipping a spell twice, it's bypassed effectiveness increases by 25%. Spells may be equipped up to three times, but cannot exceed 100% bypassed.
Requirements: 3,000 Kidou

Koujutsu Eishou [Trailing Incantation]
A very skilled kidou practitioner may use this technique to strengthen a bypassed spell after it has been cast. The user first skips the incantation using Eishouhaki, in order to get a quick effect, and then speaks the incantation aloud afterward in order to strengthen it. Of limited use for instant or projectile attacks, this is mainly used to strengthen barriers and persistent effects.
Requirements: 5,000 Kidou

Jumon Zoukyuu [Spell Augmentation]
Deeper studies into the demon arts have granted insight into the fluctuations of reiatsu and how to adjust them while still achieving a desired result. In this way, the user of Jumon Zoukyuu can increase the effect of a spell by increasing the amount paid in, within the limits of their understanding and the spell itself.
To use Jumon Zoukyuu, the caster spends the total spell cost plus an additional 2% of their kidou stat per tier of kidou.
Ranks 1-30 = Spell Cost + 2% Kidou Stat
Ranks 31-50 = Spell Cost + 4% Kidou Stat
Ranks 51-70 = Spell Cost + 6% Kidou Stat
Ranks 71-90 = Spell Cost + 8% Kidou Stat
Ranks 91+ = Spell Cost + 10% Kidou Stat
This technique uses the natural rank of the spell and is not affected by abilities that lower or increase the effective rank.
Requirements: 8,000 Kidou
Team

Touitsu Sensen [United Front]
In battle, two characters who have spent much time with one another can complement one another's fighting style. They are able to fight better in tandem than alone, receiving a boost to all stats when attacking (except Reiatsu and Connection). When fighting near each other, skilled allies can easily swap positions to better press their advantage. Such a Bait and Switch will allow the users to instantly change places with a partner within ten feet, once per round. Uses are limited by the pairs, not individuals

Touitsu Kousen [United Resistance]
Allies that have faced many hardships together often gain a higher bond. Through such a connection, comrades are able to face the brunt of duress and adversity with a heightened degree of tolerance. United Resistance, a sister technique to United Front, culminates this aspect of bonds into an inherent defensive mechanism. This tech allows characters that have reached a special bond to more effectively defend themselves and one another.
Those with a strong enough bond will gain the ability to perform an Empathic Block once per round. When one member is attacked, the other can instantly jump in to take the hit for them. Uses are limited by the pairs, not individuals.

.... Level 2 with Kamenashi Yuurei: +5% Defensive Combat Stats, Empathic Block (1/day).
Division

Kenkyouka [Sword Empowerment]
Utilizing their own kidou energy, the practitioner has the ability to cast a kidou spell onto their blade; if cast silently, bypass rules apply as normal. Once the blade comes in contact with the opponent, the spell will automatically activate. Whatever damage or effects are done by sword and spell, will be unleashed on to the opponent. With continuous use of the technique, the caster will gain the ability to have two spells imprinted on their blade at one time, once the user gains 5k kidou or zanjutsu stat. The spell counts against the user's casts in the round it is imbued, not in the round it is released. The imbued spell cannot be released until the user's following turn at the earliest.

Hagane no Kizuna [Bond of Steel]
The user of this tech has created a bond between their kidou and their zanpakutou, allowing the sword to store and augment a limited amount of kidou spells. This has the effect of granting the practitioner five additional kidou slots, at the start, and gaining one additional slot, per every 1000 Zanjutsu, to a max of ten slots. The zanpakutou must be in hand for the shinigami to have access to the spells. Even though kidou which are bonded to the zanpakutou itself are cast at its normal cost in reiatsu, the kidou threshold is reduced by half the spells cost, allowing the practitioner to cast the spells bonded to their sword more effectively than normal.

Jin'ishi [Bladed Will]
Zanjutsu and kidou are both essential to achieve victory in the Eighth Division. As such, one must learn to adapt their minds and take advantage of this new found strength. With Bladed Will, the practitioner has learned to augment their fighting abilities. By paying 10% base reiatsu, the user of this tech imbues their mind, body, and sword with power to understand, and at times, fight on par with a once overwhelming opponent. This change in combat expresses itself as a direct transfer of 50% of one's base kidou stat to their zanjutsu. The user can maintain the energy for only three rounds. This skill is a one time use per battle.

Senrigan [Clairvoyance]
The separate and obscure dimension of time is one that the the average soul can only hope to follow in a single, continuous direction. Mystics however, can momentarily access this alternate plane and see beyond the normal and regulated earthly time patterns. By spending 500 reiatsu, the Mystic can pass the ramparts of time and instantaneously see the next ten seconds of their immediate surroundings. This ability allows the clairvoyant practitioner to see the future and prepare the next action accordingly.
Although fairly inexpensive, the barriers of time should rarely be fiddled with. This ability can only be used once per battle.

Soshi [Elements]
Soshi refers to the purest elements of the spiritual realm that culminate into telekinesis -- the most basic, fundamental ability required of a shinigami to become a Mystic. A shinigami's journey in the Tenth begins with a keen awareness of the universe and an exceptional talent in reiatsu manipulation. The Mystic must be able to harness their spiritual energy and apply it in anomalous ways to the physical world.
With Soshi, the Mystic learns to move objects with their mind. Its range of effect is within a 15-meter radius. Soshi is capable of lifting large, bulky objects like wardrobes or benches with ease; at 5,000 reiatsu, this extends to being capable of lifting and throwing objects up to a mid-sized car. It costs the Mystic 200 reiatsu to perform this ability per turn. The reiatsu of others acts as a repellent to this ability, therefore, at no point can Soshi be used to levitate other spiritual creatures or people

Hitomane [Mimicry]
Mystics have the ability to read the most intricate fluctuations of spiritual energy. Therefore, whenever another summons an ability that utilizes some expenditure of reiatsu, the Mystic can temporarily imprint a map of the inner energy coursing through the target in their own mind. This imprint lasts for only a brief period of time, but within this frame, the Mystic can replicate the reiatsu paths and ultimately mimic the ability used.
However, a mimicked ability lacks the efficacy and naturalness of the primary user. All mimicked abilities are therefore 25% more expensive than normal, with no increase in potency, and can only be used in the same battle. Kai abilities and unique feats are particularly specific to the primary user and cannot be mimicked. Hitomane is also blocked if the Mystic lacks an item or insignia that is required to act in concordance with the ability. The Mystic can only copy abilities that do not require a mechanic unavailable to their race.

Sora Harukani [Far Skies]
Members of the Tenth Division are capable of utilizing the energy around them with such careful precision that they can replace the spirit particles of the air around them with their own bodies, as well as the people and things they are touching. This ability allows the Mystic to travel anywhere within the user's Reiatsu Noukan range.
This ability requires 750 reiatsu to use per person they are carrying. It cannot be used to pass between separate realms. Furthermore, in order to access the distance that Sora Harukani allows, this ability requires two turns to use. The first turn will activate Sora Harukani. However, due to the necessary concentration required of this ability, hostile acts that either injure or require defense from the Mystic cancels the teleportation attempt. It is not until the second turn that the Mystic will successfully travel to their desired destination. The Mystic cannot teleport into protected areas such as Las Noches

Tamashii no Chouwa [Harmony of Souls]
As the Mystics have improved their harmony with the Departed Spirits, so have they better learned to react to the energy around them. By studying the way the Departed Spirits interact with one another and with Mystics of the Divine, a valuable lesson can be learned.Operating on the principle that the universe is underpinned by a fundamental connectedness of all things, the Mystic studies the way their own reiatsu interacts with the reiatsu of others.
As a Mystic comes to know another shinigami, they learn the best way to resonate their reiatsu with this colleague and gain a decided advantage in combat. As long as the comrade is within 20m, they are able to replenish their reserves. Each turn, a practitioner gains as passive regeneration based on how familiar they are with the shinigami around them: shinigami with United Front grant 2% base reiatsu regeneration per turn, those with United Resistance grant 3% per turn and Fated Alliance grants 4% per turn.
Because this ability requires harmonizing one's reiatsu with someone else, it can only be done to one individual per chapter/collaboration, and abilities that distort or adversely affect the control of one's reiatsu can disable this ability if the Mystic is no longer able to harmonize their energy with their comrade.

Feats
Trained

Kidou Ikichi Kazou [Kidou Threshold Increase]As the name implies the character undertaking this Feat will have their Kidou threshold increased due to their talents over the Demon Arts. Instead of the cap being at 150% of the Kidou stat, the threshold is now raised to 200%.

Legacy: Kenkyouka
Enables the Eighth Division technique Kenkyouka.

Style: Kindou [Way of Forbidden Words]
A branch of demon magic that so tested the fabric of reality that it was sealed away, forbidden to be taught. The spells that fall under this mantle bend laws that were never meant to be tampered with.
No longer monitored as closely as centuries past, the knowledge of the forbidden spells has been discovered and surreptitiously spread. Only accessible to those of paramount skill in the demon arts, these Kindou require a full round's concentration and a complete incantation to cast.
Training: In order to learn Kindou, it is necessary to find a practitioner who has mastered it. It is a skill that cannot be taught by just anyone, as it involves transcending the natural laws of the universe. To be considered a master, a practitioner must have used all Kindou spells at least once and must have a minimum of 25,000 Kidou; after attaining this, a GM may approve the character as a master.
Unique

Juuryokuha [Wave of Gravity]
From her prolonged exposure to the remnants of Ishin’s bankai attempting to make them a workable shield, Adelaide has been affected by the power of the Prison Captain’s reiatsu. Through Juuryokuha, the normally weak force of gravity now being exerted by Adelaide’s reiatsu grows dramatically stronger. Adelaide can pay 5% of her reiatsu to increase the effect of gravity within 10m for a single turn. Indiscriminate in its effect, it temporarily slows all targets and effects in range relative to the cost of Juuryokuha and the affected ability, even to the point of halting movement for effects equal or lesser in cost. Abilities such as shunpo are impacted. Normal attacks treat this gravity wave as a barrier. Normal movement is halved. At the end of that turn, all slowed and halted movements return to normal.

Kanshite wo Mouka Niyoru [To Seal with Raging Flame]
Experimentation and advanced kidou studies are the high-minded ambitions of the Kidoushuu, the Kidou Corps of Soul Society. Also, the Kidoushuu are tasked with using this experimental and advanced variation of the Demon Arts in the maintenance of much of the operations of Soul Society, among them the use of highly complex seals. After actualizing the potential once seen in her by this secretive and elite division of the forces of Seireitei as a master kidouist and practitioner of the most grand experiments with flame magic known to shinigami or scholar, the pyromancer took an even rarer step than simply being approached by the Kidoushuu: she learned their ways without joining their number.
Applying her unique brand of fire magic to the Kidoushuu's mastery of seals of various form, Adelaide was taught how to restructure a seal fundamentally, giving her mastery of fire to the art of kidou least moved by the passions of fire: bindings. By paying 1.5 times the cost of a binding (applied to the binding's strength), Adelaide can fundamentally alter the basis of the spell, adding to it the power of the flames that are signature to her casting. This also means that some bindings which are naturally not harmful now may inflict serious burns on their victims.
While powerful in its own right, this allows her newly-burning bindings to be augmented by the powers of her zanpakutou's release, where Soulfire can be applied to these kidou. Because the flames are not added to the spell, but the spell is altered on a basic level to incorporate them, Soulfire applies to the newly-burning kidou as it would to any Fire-based kidou, with the extra cost for Kanshite wo Mouka Niyoru being applied separately.

Kidou Shouen [Blazing Passion for the Demon Arts]
Learning from her own experience with fire kidou and the guides given her by the Kidoushuu on augmenting the fundamental power of a spell with flame, Adelaide has raised her ability with fire and chomatic flame kidou to the level of a true master pyromancer. By infusing spells already comprised with fire with flames as she was taught, it becomes little more than an amusement to incant a spell; her power over it is always at it's greatest efficiency.
Fire-based or Chromatic Fire kidou, those able to be enhanced by Hellfire and Soulfire, are cast with Eishouhaki or Kenkyouka at 100% efficiency. In order to qualify for this absolute bypass, a spell must naturally consist of either flames or chromatic fire.
GM

Repentance
In the chaos of Gyouga Fukai Meiro, Adelaide saw her personal philosophy to avoid killing put to the test... and fail utterly. After cutting down enemies and allies alike, and feeling the burn of cleansing flames that failed to scour away her sins, Adelaide has no option but to live with her choices. As such, the sight of her friends and allies struggling drives her to new heights, in a desperate bid to make up for her prior bloodlust.
When an ally has received a major injury or has been reduced below 50% of their base reiatsu, Adelaide feels a surge of burning willpower, boosting her reiatsu and kidou threshold each by 5% of her base reiatsu. This may only occur once per day.

Items
Division

Kakoroku [Reminiscence]
A small colorful
pendant manufactured by the Ninth Division. The jewel possesses an ability to capture the essence of a shinigami's inner world and preserve it in their realm. Adelaide's gem is worn on a black-banded choker and is amethyst on top and has a base of ruby, set in a frame of silver.By paying 300 reiatsu per activation a maximum of thrice per combat, a member of the Eighth Division can recall their zanpakutou back into their hand as long as it is within a 20 meter (64ft) range. This pendant does not work on other zanpakutou other than their own, nor will it work for someone that has relieved the Sword-mage of their pendant.

Koutaizumai [Illusionary Shapeshifting]
Koutaizumai takes the form of a silk ribbon that is approximately two feet in length. It is wound tightly around any body part of the Mystic's choosing and adheres by a link of reiatsu. The standard ribbon color is white, but once the link with the Mystic is made, the ribbon can change to any color of the shinigami's choosing. Adelaide's ribbon is a lavender strand tied firmly around her left wrist and forearm, worn under her shihakushou.
All matter is composed of molecules and energy. Using the particles of reiatsu around them, Mystics can use Koutaizumai to shift the matter that composes their own body to create an illusion of transforming. The user's actual mass and size will stay the same. However, the senses of everyone around the Mystic will experience the object that the user will appear to be. Minor cosmetic changes can be maintained in combat, but anything that fully conceals the user's appearance requires concentration and cannot be used in conjunction with other abilities.
The Mystic is also capable of morphing into another's form. By allowing the other person to wear the ribbon, the user will establish a bond that gives the Mystic access to the other person's appearance and reiatsu signature. By doing this, however, the Mystic forfeits the ability to change into other objects.

Taidan [Speak]
While understanding the spiritual universe, it is extremely important that the Mystics also understand their allies as well. Taidan allows the Tenth member to access a specific region of the cerebral cortex that lets them transfer messages through mind waves from one member to another. This item requires 100 reiatsu per turn to use if the message is sent to another Mystic.
Tenth members are also capable of using Taidan with other outside individuals as well. However, because the recipient does not possess their own Taidan, the Mystic requires ample knowledge of the target’s reiatsu signature in order to access the psychal communication region of the recipient’s brain. This ability requires great spiritual connection, therefore requires United Front.
Under normal circumstances only Mystics can communicate back and forth, using their Taidan to transmit messages to one another, but once a user of Taidan is intimately familiar with the recipient's reiatsu they can attune Taidan more precisely to that person and allow messages to be received as well. This ability requires United Resistance or higher, and the 100 reiatsu cost also spent by the Mystic when the non-mystic connected to them sends a message back. The draining nature of this makes protracted conversations inadvisable, meaning for each message sent by either person, the Mystic expends reiatsu.
Each cost is determined per person. If messages are sent to multiple individuals, each recipient requires their own expenditure of reiatsu.
Taidan takes the form of minute speckles of granite. In order to wear Taidan, the captain or vice-captain draws an intricate line of reiatsu on the Mystic’s skull -- the specific position and design is customized by the member. The speckles of Taidan will then adhere to the reiatsu line, appearing as if a tattoo, and it will permanently remain there as long as the shinigami remains a Tenth Division member.
Unique

Dislinir [Goddess Shields] Tier A
After working with the Peacekeepers for several trying days, including the day the Central Forty-Six was attacked, Adelaide became familiar with some of their equipment, particularly an armguard called a Talos. Talos, a signature tool of the division, were constructed using fragments of a meteorite from Katsuji Ishin’s bankai moon that once rested within the Thirteenth’s grounds along the Iris River.Adelaide, in honor both of her time with the now defunct Peacekeepers and her admiration for the once-captive Captain, has repurposed the bankai moonbits into a pair of bracelets she calls "Dislinir”, Norse for "Goddess Shields”. The bracelets are gunmetal gray in color, with a ruby, emerald and topaz set equidistant from one another, as if the bracelets were ornate insignias of the Eighth Division. The theory was that even in this diminished form, a metal generated by bankai would be a strong enough conductor of Adelaide’s Kenkyouka abilities to generate an effective barrier on command.
While originally conceptualized as a shield operating on the principles of Kenkyouka, the mineral used to construct Dislinir proved to have a rather different expression of power far more akin to Soshi, allowing Dislinir to affect the local gravity around Adelaide. The bracelets' imitated the Situational Gravity of their creator.
By spending 1500 Reiatsu, Adelaide can control the gravimetric forces applied to objects up to and including mid-sized cars - albeit without any precision that would allow the wielding of weapons. By exerting the full force of the gravimetric control, the gravity field can even control projectiles infused with reiatsu for up to the cost paid. Though the bracelets' ability ordinarily lasts 5 rounds, exerting gravimetric force against any projectile enhanced or infused with reiatsu results in the immediate ending of the effect - requiring a round of cooldown before it may be reactivated.
Because Dislinir cannot control the reiatsu of others, it cannot be used to change gravity's effect on people. The effect of Dislinir can stack with the effect of Soshi, allowing the per-turn mass of objects controlled to increase to about one and a half whales or five cubic yards of potatoes.

Uchiharu's Never-Ending Spellbook Tier B
A plain and unadorned white pocket book with blank pages. Through various lengths of time spent studying enchantments, this item is the only successful survivor of its brethren. Normally such a mundane artifact would only hold space for five spells, but over his time with the book, Uchiharu Haresuno improved in in many ways, notably doubling its efficiency; resulting in a book that grants an additional ten kidou slots to the wielder. The book cannot be used in conjunction with Spell Diversity or Hagane no Kizuna. The Captain imparted the book, as well as knowledge of its use, to fellow kidou expert Adelaide Pierce.
Other

Kikanshinki [Memory Chikan] Standard Item, Rank B
The Memory Chikan is an essential tool for missions on Earth. A simple handheld rectangular device with lights running up the sides, a simple button press causes a flash that allows the shinigami to augment the memories of human bystanders. The rank of the kikanshinki used determines its effectiveness. The standard-issue fuel is D-rank. This automatically implants a random, false memory in each subject. B-rank kikanshinki implants the suggestion deeper, allowing the user to plant memories in greater detail, which the subject's brain tries to reconcile with other memories. Memory chikan are most effective against targets under their tier, and still moderately useful against same-tier targets. Purchase will permanently upgrade the user's Memory Chikan. This is only available to Shinigami.

Subspace Communicator Someone Else's Unique Item, C-tier
A small black gem that can be attached the transmitter of any existing communication device. Udo made several of these. He can give one to someone else, and it does not take up a unique item slot for them. This device enables the user to call another person that they know who has one, regardless of what realm they are in. The call is encrypted, and carried by the fabric of space itself, so without prior knowledge of this method, it cannot be traced, or even detected. Even if you can hack into it, it’ll be extremely hard if not impossible to break the encryption. To use it, the caller must think of the person they are calling, then pay 200 reiatsu to start the call. If the receiver has caller ID, it appears as Unknown Number.

Seigen Sotonoji [Forbidden Kanji] Reusable Reward Item
A flat black sheet of onyx. On one side, it is covered in archaic symbols of forbidding. The other side is blank -- the user may write one word on there which then becomes unusable, including bypassed incantations, for the remainder of the collab.

Kijigoku [Living Hell] Single-Use Reward Item
A shard of sharpened leg bone with bloody inscriptions encircling it. A target stabbed with this will be banished to Hueco Mundo; there, they are left to their own devices to survive or escape. After this single use, Kijigoku disintegrates into white sand. Adelaide's kijigoku is wrapped in a sheath of vellum and requires removing a bakudou on the vellum sheath Banshisei would suffice) to draw the bone shard.

Shisha-Shi [Dead Page] Single-Use Reward Item x3
The three ragged-edged sheets before you are covered in black-red script in an indecipherable language. Their consistency and patina suggest that the pages are made of skin, perhaps even human skin. Upon verbalizing even one word of the unknown language, the page will immediately suck in everything within a 5m hemisphere in front of the writing. Creatures or objects larger than the page will not be absorbed, but will be held in place until the end of the round, when the page is sucked into its own vortex and is destroyed.

SWA Figure Collection Standard Item
Adelaide has the SWA limited-release figures of Lilith, Sayis and Senesati sitting on her desk in the Tenth Division. They have no special function other than being awesome. She has posed them as Lilith and Senesati standing on either side of a sitting Sayis who is dealing with paperwork.

Silver Dragonfly Sunglasses Standard Item
The stylish sunglasses purchased by Adelaide Pierce have a unique property. Working with SRDI's Andromeda de Laincourt, Adelaide developed glasses that can see through the clothing of women. Clothing and armors comprised of or woven with special materials like Bloodstone cannot be seen through. Inappropriate parts are seen as an inpercise mosaic of censorship - Andromeda's sense of humor.

Prologue: The Nature of Things

PROLOGUE
The Nature of Things

"They say that the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. I say that's a really long way to walk."
~Adelaide Pierce~

Chapter One: First Impression

Adelaide has had better days in her life than this. A lot of them. When life gives lemons, Adelaide learns that the best thing to do is mock both life and the lemons, and then go get drunk.

Chapter Two: Days Gone By
Showing a slightly deeper side, Adelaide laments the loss of her living life, but seeks to make the future a little brighter. She always will have the feelings her life inspired. She will always have the daffodils.

Chapter Three: A Girl and her Katana
Adelaide doesn't just irritate her friends, immediate superiors, strangers at bars, and most other people she meets; she annoys her Zanpakutou a lot too!

Chapter Four: The Philosophy of Hats
Adelaide meets up with that barfly again. It is thanks to the intervention of Bestian that she doesn't have to actually fight, so much as pay for damages. He steals her hat. And then gets her lost. Somehow, she's okay with all that, though.
Special Guest Star: Cheese as Sébastian Vermilion

Chapter Five: Lost in Seireitei
Bestian got Adelaide lost. Really lost. But good things can come from unexpected adventures.

Chapter Six: Wine, Women and Intensive Combat Training
An attempt to pick Adelaide up at a bar leads to a deep friendship and sporting rivalry between herself and Udo, the Eighth Seat of the Eighth Division. Between picking up ladies, training, and a fair amount of rice-wine, the two Eighthers bond.
Special Guest Star: Pho as Tabawara Udo

Chapter Seven: On the City of Ladies
A very foggy-headed Adelaide goes for a walk with a really creepy woman named Lash and discusses what motivated her in life, and where her love of philosophy originated from. As her mind clears, she realizes that Lash is her Zanpakutou and her Inner World is the place she had always dreamed of: Christine de Pizan's City of Ladies.

Chapter Eight: Opposing Forces
It isn't enough to wander through life as a Shinigami. Adelaide learns this lesson with a brief bout of word-sparring out in Rukongai. Getting stronger doesn't have to mean physical strength, for Adelaide, serenity is the goal. And shoving that in the face of TenTen-san.
Special Guest Star: Bob as TenTen-san (Lucas Morrison)

Chapter Nine: The Game of Categorical Inaccuracy
Trying to discern reality from dreams, Adelaide decides to venture into the City of Ladies to prove it truly exists within her. While there, Lash pushes Adelaide to begin training her memory to focus on details, with the false promise of one day evolving that into eidetic memory.

Chapter Ten: Hello, World
When the man from the Boshiya and the pub both return to Adelaide in Rukongai's First District, she awakens the power of Lashiel, bringing both her time within the City of Ladies and her struggles with this particular annoyance to a head in a showdown worth Adelaide's weight in badassery.

Part One: Under a Certain Shadow

PART ONE
Under A Certain Shadow

"Let justice be done, though the heavens fall."
~Roman phrase~

Chapter One: Reflections on the Water
The sharp wit and sultry somethings of Adelaide Pierce are tried against their greatest challenge yet - finding someone singularly special. Yuurei and Adelaide take a long walk by a river through Seireitei and bond talk of great things worthy of great women. And flirt a little.
Special Guest Star: Nella as Kamenashi Yuurei

Chapter Two: Live by the Sword
Adelaide become a true Eighther as Udo teaches her the essential skill of sword empowerment. And then they try to one-up one another. Naturally.
Special Guest Star: Pho as Tabawara Udo

Chapter Three: That Old English Spirit
Making good on their debts from their bets, the Eighthers leave the "Live by the Sword" and venture to a place to get alcohol, a journey on which Adelaide decided to give whiskey to an avid sake drinker and watch as hilarity ensues. ...and hilarity ensues.
Special Guest Star: Pho as Tabawara Udo

Chapter Four: Under a Satsuma Sun
Again the desperation with which Adelaide wishes to pursue Yuu-chan romantically is dulled by the nature of reality. Though when Addie's hopes of an onsen adventure are shot down, she finds a sunset with a special someone to actually be a fair replacement.
Special Guest Star: Nella as Kamenashi Yuurei

Chapter Five: Picking Teams
Intent on proving her worth, Adelaide takes the advice of Tabawara Udo and attempts to sign up for an exploratory mission to Hueco Mundo. After dealing with Udo's objections and some annoyance from the Eleventh, Adelaide is recalled.

Chapter Six: Reassignment
After being pulled out of the really-quite-important Hueco Mundo meeting for what felt like punitive reassignment, Adelaide (or Adelaine, if her Captain has his way about things) seeks something to feel good about.

Chapter Seven: Meeting Outdoors
After about a month of service to the Eighth Division, Adelaide meets Anenokoji Senesati, the Captain of the Eighth. Amazingly, after showing Captain Anenokoji her shikai, Adelaide is dubbed the Fifth Seat of the Eighth Division. And she's shocked. Shocked.
Special Guest Star: Sene as Anenokoji Senesati

Chapter Eight: A Hunting We Will Go
Upon arriving at the Thirteenth Division per her reassignment, Adelaide proceeds to interrogate a suspect she knows nothing about for a crime she knows nothing about, and do so rather splendidly.

Chapter Nine: British Time
There's a valuable lesson to be learned about conflating business and pleasure. Adelaide doesn't know what that lesson is, exactly, but it probably is a good one.
Special Guest Star: Geno as Raury Feybrand

Chapter Ten: Guilty Until Proven Innocent
Representing the Thirteenth Division, Adelaide attends her first interrogation in the matter of the errant assassinations, following her own leads and agenda for the Thirteenth Division. Trusting no one, Adelaide pursues her investigation under pretenses.

Chapter Eleven: Overdose
Giving up on attaining useful information with a less-than-helpful interrogator, Adelaide tries her luck elsewhere and attends her second interrogation on behalf of the Thirteenth. This time she is afforded a few more liberties.

Chapter Twelve: Questions Unanswered
Haunted by the idea that she has no business "playing detective", Adelaide considers letting the investigation into the faulty bounties simply lapse, especially in light of the fact that everything she so far collected is circumstantial, and it points to the next puzzle piece being a big name. Where to go from here...?

Chapter Thirteen: The Killer of Killers
Adelaide teams up with Captain Katsuji, some assassins and a scientist to track down the wherebouts of her suspect-gone-AWOL Honoka Mizuki. Her greatest ally in the endeavor is a medic named Lucia, whom Adelaide quickly develops a comfortable working relationship with. And just a comfortable working relationship, thank you very much!

Chapter Fourteen: Queen Takes Rook
Dismissing the efforts to investigate the Twelfth as a distraction from the actual matters at hand, Adelaide elects to run through everything learned up to this point and comes alarmingly close to figuring something out. Thankfully she misses that mark by a mile. Queen Takes Rook is Adelaide's introspection during Chapter Thirteen: The Killer of Killers.

Chapter Fifteen: When It Is No Longer Possible to Live Proudly
Arriving on the scene of the attack on the Central Forty-Six, Adelaide is faced with her most difficult task to date: not getting killed.

Chapter Sixteen: Hold the Line
If hope is the engine of the soul, Adelaide finds herself rowing instead following the single most devaluing experience of her life. Still, there's work to be done, and following being shamed by a human Adelaide's new biggest problem to overcome is her own self-doubt.

Chapter Seventeen: Sanctuary on the Iris River
Adelaide conscripts the Thirteenth Division into her effort to protect the dozen or so Forty-Sixers not too arrogant to come to her for aide. In so doing she must try to bring order to a division in chaos and not kill her protectees.

Chapter Eighteen: What Kind of Day Has it Been?
Adelaide compiles a report on the events of the day's Crisis, reflecting on the events of the day. She also looks in to the shadows moving behind the curtain. If, of course, they exist at all.

Chapter Nineteen: Full Disclosure
Adelaide is introduced to Vice-Captain Takimoto Kago, whom she subsequently mocks, challenges to a Kidou sparring and informs about the role of Kago's old Twelfth Division in the events of recent days. And hilarity ensues.
Special Guest Star: Kago as Takimoto Kago

Chapter Twenty: Gracefully Disgraced
Adelaide and Udo exchange really rather depressing stories for the recent "Crisis", during the moments when they aren't trading barbs and Adelaide isn't talking about how badly she outranks Udo.
Special Guest Star: Pho as Tabawara Udo

Chapter Twenty-One: Off the Record
Adelaide ventures to the Seventh Division to speak to it's Captain, Katsuji Ishin, about what happened after she left the Central Forty-Six behind. Sadly, it's all classified. Not that that stops the inquisitive mind.
Special Guest Star: Ish as Katsuji Ishin

Chapter Twenty-Two: For What the Caged Bird Sings
Following her meeting with captive Captain Katsuji Ishin, Adelaide speaks with one of the assassins convicted by the Forty-Six prior to the attack on their chambers, and further tempts fate with the answers she seeks.
Special Guest Star: Cad as Okamii Igasho

Chapter Twenty-Three: A Tale of Old Mother Christmas
In her first Christmas Special, Adelaide takes on the role of Old Mother Christmas and teaches the seducer, Lashiel, the meaning of the creature the Britons so cherish.
Part Two: Reasonable Expectations

PART TWO
Reasonable Expectations

"History repeats itself; first as tragedy, second as farce."
~Karl Marx~

Chapter One: And Days of Auld Lang Syne
In an effort to let rest the problems of her pre-shinigami life, Adelaide visits an old friend, Seriho, and asks the age old questions: should old acquaintances be forgot and never brought to mind?

Chapter Two: The Story So Far
Seriho tells a new employee the story behind the Amber Teahouse, and its three founders; Seriho, Miyabi and Adelaide.
Starring: Seriho Fujeda

Chapter Three: Ascent of the Spellblade
In her efforts to further her Eighth Division training, Adelaide seeks out the techniques of Hagane no Kizuna and Jin'ishi in order to become the kind of swordmistress she aspires to be. The unorthodox training with Captain Anenokoji leads to Lashiel manifesting in the physical world.
Special Guest Star: Sene as Anenokoji Senesati

Chapter Four: Of Fire and Ice
Who the hell knows what to expect on missions anymore. Adelaide and Udo go to Earth and meet a human with a strange item. Adelaide's Hellfire meets the Ice Queen Natalie Spencer and the party squares off against a pair of Hollows.
Special Guest Star: Pho as Tabawara Udo

Chapter Five: The Mind Palace
Following a lecture on the importance of memory from some human, Adelaide renews her efforts to strengthen her ability to recall events by studying an ancient Roman technique from Lashiel; the memory palace. Exploring the method, Adelaide hopes to find that nothing is forgotten, it is simply not remembered yet.

Chapter Six: Open me Carefully
Adelaide's homage to Emily Dickinson becomes a cautionary tale as a grand Valentine's gesture backfires worse than anyone could anticipate. The situation is made worse by the insecurities of those involved, naturally.
Special Guest Star: Nella as Kamenashi Yuurei

Chapter Seven: All's Fair in Love and War
Adelaide and Seriho discuss how a Valentine gone wrong led to a haircut for the former and a problem in the Northern districts discovered by the latter. The fears of both are confirmed when their old friend pays them a dangerously psychotic visit.

Chapter Eight: The Value of Experience
Adelaide and Udo are summoned and, subsequently, mercilessly slaughtered by Vice-Captain Takimoto Kago. The two survive, but Adelaide references this as "that time Kago killed me".
Special Guest Star: Pho as Tabawara Udo and Kago as Takimoto Kago

Chapter Nine: Hell is Other People
Upon waking from what she expected to be a lethal blow, Adelaide trades another kind of blows with Kago. Certainly, though perhaps being ruthlessly murdered gave Adelaide perspective, it also fostered a deep contempt for the Vice-Captain.
Special Guest Star: Kago as Takimoto Kago

Chapter Ten: Pushing the Envelope
Adelaide ventures to the Tenth Division, seeking its Captain for both insight and expertise. What she gets is far more dramatic than even what she expected, seeing both Captain Maikeru's lust and her new role as Chair of the Shinigami Women's Association.
Special Guest Star: Lil as Lilith Maikeru

Chapter Eleven: Unstable Soil
Orin leaves behind the nobler ideals and dreams of the Thirteenth to find a new home in the Fifth, while hoping to cling to his personal moral definition; disable without killing, preserve order over disaster.
Starring: Orin Dougherty

Chapter Twelve: The New Approach

Orin Dougherty

Orin Dougherty
Fifth Division, Unseated

Reiatsu: 6120
Purgidair: 6732
Zanjutsu: 2000
Hakuda: 0
Hohou: 2500
Kidou: 1620

Introduced:
Sanctuary on the Iris River

Age: 175

Appearance: He looks young. Really young. Despite his best efforts Orin grows mockingly mild facial hair and has the eyes of a young lad. His hair is strawberry-blond and his eyes are a sky blue that seems to almost shimmer with hope. He sometimes wears the Talos of a Thirteenth Division diplomat with his standard garb, but often leaves it to be a treasured memory.

Persona: Orin is sensitive about his youthful early-teenage appearance and will either react with despair or anger at its mention. He tries his hardest to avoid actual combat and considers a day where everybody lives a solid victory. He is aware that this attitude won’t serve him well as a Shinigami, but still works to do right by the division he has joined.

Race: Shinigami

Biography: Orin became a Shinigami because he had a natural aptitude for utilizing his spiritual force and not much forethought about the fact that he was becoming a soldier. His disposition against killing made him a prime candidate for the Thirteenth Division, and he stayed among its diplomats until the attack on the Central Forty-Six made the destabilization of the Thirteenth public knowledge. Following the mess involved in trying to carry out Adelaide Pierce’s orders to protect the Central Forty-Six members housed at the Thirteenth Division, Orin put in for a transfer to the Fifth Division to avoid any fallout his old home might’ve had from past problems.

Zanpakutou: Purgadair (Purifier) is a wakizashi of white metal with ornamental gold flairs, a strange counterpart to Adelaide’s Lashiel. Purgadair himself is a quiet and serene man, quite fond of poetry.

Age:

Appearance:
Natalie has dark blue hair and hazel eyes, looking exceptionally normal is a gift of hers. She typically dresses somewhat professionally, preferring a blouse and three-quarter length jacket of black, slacks and her charming smile to get by in the world.

Persona:
Natalie takes herself seriously. Sarcastic retorting, sure, but for the most part it’s the work that keeps her going. Natalie believes its her place to help others, to do what she can to give back to them for the kindness she has had in life. That said, she suspects greatly the will of large forces that work to certain ends, and the purity of their intentions.

Race:
Advent Human

Biography:
Natalie is pretty good with guns. Her father, Nathaniel Spencer, worked for the American Secret Service, and training her in firearms was about the only contribution he made to her youth. She carries twin pistols partially as homage to her father, who despite her emotional (and physical) distance to him she respects greatly. Keeping with her theme of carrying memories of people she distances herself from, Natalie used to carry a ring given to her by "a mistake”, one that was taken from her by shinigami.

Awakening:
Frostbite
Frigid Touch: Natalie has the innate ability to freeze things to an extreme. By paying 100 Reiatsu she can freeze water into ice.
Icicle Rounds: But by paying 500 she can freeze the water vapor in the air into ice. In the turn she does so, the ice is not melted by any outside force. Oftentimes, this means firing bullets of ice from her gun instead of ammunition.
Spreading Frost: As a Resonant Attack, she can take existing ice and rapidly expand it, freezing objects around it for the cost of 2% of her reiatsu.

True Awakening:
Sheer Cold
Frigid Veil: Her True Awakening allows her an even greater fidelity of frost. By paying 1% of her reiatsu per turn, Natalie radiates an aura of uncomfortable cold. While giving off this aura, her ability to freeze water is simply an at-will manifestation of the power she is giving off.
Blizzard Bullets: Natalie's icy bullets leave a wake of snow upon being fired. In addition to this cosmetic change, at the cost of 2% of Natalie's reiatsu, she fires a frozen round embedded in an enemy adds the reiatsu cost of Blizzard Bullet to the scope, size and effect of Spreading Ice, in exchange for reducing the damage of the shot itself

Agility: 5000

Introduced:
The Artist's Soul ((Illusion in Serene Sunset on a Picturesque Plateau))

Age: 21

Appearance: Reddish brown hair falls down
Annika's back and her eyes are the deepest crimson ever concieved, but these are far from her most distinguishing features. She has a fox tail and fox ears resultant from her painting them on with her abilities. She doesn't act twenty, and probably doesn't look it either, so is often confused with being far younger than she is.

Persona: Annika has very little direction in life, simply going wherever her whims take her. She still behaves a lot like a little kid, mostly in regard to her reactions to situations displaying a decided lack of emotional maturity. She doesn't like using her projections, the creations she makes with her paintbrush, for violence, but she is willing to if she has to. She believes that art ought to exist only for art's sake, a point of contention between herself and her friend Fukushin.

Race: Advent Human

Biography: Annika was lost for some time in the wilderness. That was where her abilities first awakened, and one of her paintings came to life to protect her. After being alone for months, with just her drawings to keep her company, she encountered Fukushin. She was afraid, so fought him off at first, but he eventually befriended her. Eight years have passed, and in that time Annika completed her childhood education and simply disappeared again, this time to travel the world and find interesting things. However, its hard to make money doing that, so she wound up in Japan, seeking to become a manga artist.

Awakening: Art Imitates Life
Realistic Depiction: At the cost of 5% Annika's reiatsu, a creature can be painted. Typically using a paintbrush for precision's sake, the creature must be outlined two-dimensionally in the air before taking three-dimensional form. The creature behaves the way Annika wants it to behave, and is able to be destroyed as per a normal reiatsu construct. No more than one construct may be created per turn, and no more than one per 20% Resonance may be maintained at one time. Annika must pay 250 reiatsu per turn upkeep to prevent 'decay', if she does not, the constructs decay at a standard barrier rate.
Painted in Blood: When a construct would be destroyed per normal construct rules, Annika can pay an additional 5% to repair the painting, refreshing it to 'good as new' condition. This does not count against her Art Imitates Life creations for the turn.
Resonant Attack: Performance Art: Once per turn, Annika can channel 10% of her reiatsu into one of her constructs in order to deliver a powerful attack in the form that makes most sense for that construct - a painted Dragon unleashing a breath attack, or a giant snake having a venomous bite for instance. Despite perceived versatility, this in fact can be quite limiting, because the Performance Art ability of a painted whale might be described as 'rather underwhelming'.
True Awakening: Life Imitates Art
Instillation Art: No longer simply limited to materializing living creatures, once her true powers awaken, Annika is able to maintain the creation of inanimate objects as well. Inanimate objects are not able to deliver Performance Art attacks and maintain their construct-like status under the provisions of Life Imitates Art.
So Lifelike: Annika's creatures are more alive than ever, no longer subject to 'decay' and not requiring upkeep. They do more than simply prevent themselves from falling apart, however. While So Lifelike is active, the creatures projected by her art (not her Instillation Art), recover 3% of Annika's reiatsu per turn, divided among the current number of non-Instillation projections.
Overdrive: Magnum Opus
The Great Work: Art, like alchemy, is centered around the creation of a Great Work. By dispelling all current projections of art, expending her Resonance and at the cost of half her remaining reiatsu, Annika can create a work of art that stands the test of time. Magnum Opus projections do not count toward her total number of projections, do not require her concentration, act of their own free will, and are not subject to the rules regarding construct destruction, instead requiring the opponent to truly 'kill' them. Magnum Opus projections must be animate creatures (or Annika's augments to herself, as her ears and tail are manifestations of Magnum Opus) and she cannot communicate with or control them telepathically. They may expend their own reiatsu using a variation of Performance Art at a cost of 10% of the Magnum Opus construct's power once per turn, but if a Magnum Opus completely expends its reiatsu it ceases to exist. Although theoretically possible for more than one Magnum Opera to exist at once, with the exception of Annika's self-augmentation only one can engage any single enemy.

Andromeda de Laincourt

Andromeda "Rommie" de Laincourt
Shinigami Research and Development Institute, Reasearcher

Reiatsu: 12145

Cosmos: 13359
Zanjutsu: 1645
Hakuda: 0
Hohou: 2500
Kidou: 8000

Introduced:
Magic and Science

Age: 121

Appearance: Andromeda has very long snow-white hair which falls almost down to her knees and eyes of lavender. She's nearly 5'10 and might be somewhat imposing if she wasn't also drop-dead sexy. She has curves in all the right places and legs that go all the way down to the floor. Andromeda occasionally wears glasses, but they're entirely unnecessary, serving the function of "brainy specs" instead of actually augmenting vision.

Persona: Rommie's crazy. Seriously slightly unhinged. She reacts to things in a rather unpredictable manner and will occasionally do things far, far outside the norm. That said, she also is a scientist; her top motivation in anything she does is curiosity. Her unusual and wild behavior shifts aside, her pursuit of information in whatever form it might take is her guiding principle.

Race: Shinigami

Biography: Andromeda always wanted to understand things. She was a curious little brat in Rukongai, a tinkerer with the things other people tossed aside, not knowing their worth. She eventually invented something that focused the latent spiritual talent she had into an ability to generate heat, something she insisted was perfect for cooking but which eventually got her talents noticed. She was carted off to work in the Ninth Division after her slightly early graduation from the Spiritual Arts academy and focused her work thereafter on the study of reiatsu fluctuations. When the Ninth Division lost funding, she considered applying her specialty in the Tenth Division which focused on study of reiatsu patterns, but instead was requested to join the SRDI's Prometheus research team.

Zanpakutou: Cosmos is a wakizashi of almost pure black, with tiny shining flecks of silver embedded in the otherwise black blade. The spirit of Kosmos is a feminine humanoid machine, clearly mechanical (a clockwork key extends from a mini-hat on her head and clockwork wings) but who appears mostly human. Cosmos tends to dress in dark blue Victorian fashion.
Sabitsura Faysal

Faysal of Sabitsura
Kidoushuu, Agent

Reiatsu: Classified

Kheper: ????
Zanjutsu: ????
Hakuda: ????
Hohou: ????
Kidou: ????

Introduced:
Two Roads Diverged in a Wood

Age: 844

Appearance: As a member of the Kidoushuu, Faysal typically wears a version of the shihakushou that replaces the lower layer of white with more black, and usually includes a cowl or face covering of some sort. He also often wears gloves of black velvet. Usually, that leaves him unable to be seen, though under all that clothing he has honeyed, and wrinkled, skin. He is old, with short and silvery-colored hair and his eyes are a faded light brown. He speaks with a mild middle-eastern accent though his Japanese is more than a little studied and practiced.

Persona: Faysal is a dry wit, and a natural teacher. He enjoys working with young people and encouraging them into quiet study and contemplation. He has a distaste for violence which drew him to the modern iteration of the Kidoushuu and a rational fear of the Gotei's stronger kidouists, who he often considers dangerous and mad. He has a lot of patience, and lacks a stern hand, much preferring quiet manipulation.

Race: Shinigami

Biography: Most of Faysal's biographical details are classified. He 'appeared' in the district of Sabitsura and has spent five hundred years serving the Kidoushuu, his main task having been recruiting and training new agents.

Zanpakutou: Kheper is a small dagger sheathed in the right sleeve of Faysal's shihakushou. Details about its release are strongly classified and rarely seen, but it is believed based on its name that it may relate either to scarabs or transformation.

Retainers of House Pierce
Seriho Fujeda

Sarah Metzer (Fujeda Seriho)
Amber Teahouse, Manager

Introduced:
And Days of Auld Lang Syne

Age: 300-ish. She lies about it.

Appearance: Seriho tries to look like a professional, but doesn’t do a good job of it. She has sienna hair that hangs just past her shoulder-blades and chocolate eyes. She dresses "corporate casual” and usually has a smell of exotic teas about her. She’s small framed but not nubile; she appears to be in her late twenties or early thirties. Again, if asked about it, she’d lie.

Persona: Nothing matters more to Seriho than a sense of community among Soul Society’s lesbians. She also treasures Adelaide’s long friendship and was very hurt that Addie didn’t visit after becoming a Shinigami. She forgives easily and tries to be light-hearted but can be easily distracted by things that make her worry, mostly surrounding the treatment of women, gay people and her tea-house.

Race: Soul

Biography: Seriho was born in Soul Society and has spent her life trying to make her mark on it. She was born under the name Sarah Metzer, with her sister Kirin Metzer. After an undisclosed falling-out with their father, both Sarah and Kirin left Metzer-Frey, but changed their names to insulate the house from scandal. Thereafter, the newly-named Seriho decided to try and help people.
She was one of Adelaide’s few friends in her years wandering Rukongai. She recruited the young Briton and her other friend Miyabi to help her in opening and popularizing "The Amber Teahouse” as a place for Soul Society’s lesbians to go to just be themselves and develop a sense of community. During the process Seriho began dating Miyabi. The next ten years were blissful with the trio managing and drawing a crowd to the teahouse that was Seriho’s dream, but all good things must end. Miyabi, who had always been... unpredictable... was accused of assaulting a patron of the Teahouse. Seriho, finding this believable, told Miyabi to leave, and in return Miyabi robbed the Teahouse on her way out. Adding more trouble, Adelaide handled this betrayal by heading off to Seireitei to become a Shinigami. For the last several years, Seriho has been rebuilding the business alone, quite successfully.
Momo Naitou

Naitou Momoko
Pierce Publishing, Managing Editor

Introduced:
A Change is Gonna Come

Age: 50

Appearance: Momo has silver-white hair tied into a ponytail. She has copper eyes and typically dresses in skirts and casual tops that reflect a certain seriousness and youth blended together in an awkward way. Very Doctor Who, so to speak. She tries to look formal and act old and wise but is in fact rather young. She's pale and clearly of European descent despite her Japanese name. Her ponytail is so similar to Adelaide's it was likely inspired by her redheaded matron.

Persona: Momo usually is the 'straight man' to the energetic and ambitious Shinobu Naitou. Though fierce in her loyalty to Seriho, Adelaide and Shinobu, Momo is not afraid to rein them in when they grow too emotional. She prefers the pragmatic approaches to life and displays a sharp mind and remarkable ability to focus that hint at a great potential utterly untapped. Her pragmatism and ability to calm the over-emotional nature of those around her makes her exceptionally useful to the Pierce Estate and the various business ventures the estate manages.

Race: Soul

Biography: Momo was hired some years ago as a waitress at the Amber Teahouse by Seriho Fujea. When the tea shop was destroyed y Katsuji Ishin, Momo was one of the people who rushed patrons to safety, and she and her partner Shinobu worked with the funding granted by Adelaide Pierce to rebuild the tea shop while the co-owner Seriho recovered from her extensive injuries. Given Momo's abilities with business and intense focus, she was placed in charge of the new project Adelaide launched upon becoming a noble, the Pierce Publishing Company and adjoining Pierce Public Library. Momo also has long served as the wrangler, able to calm and focus the various advisers of Lady Pierce.
Shinobu Naitou

Naitou Shinobu
Estate of House Pierce, Mitakihara Outreach Coordinator

Introduced:
A Change is Gonna Come

Age: 112

Appearance: Always dressed in a black blouse and pants with a white tie, always sporting hair clips and always with long, flowing orange hair, Shinobu Naitou typically wears an excited or happy expression. She is taller than Momo or Serihou or Adelaide, only a couple inches shy of six feet, and she can be quite the imposing figure if she chooses to be. Still, she typically beams kindness in her body language and very presence.

Persona: Moved by emotion more than anything else, Shinobu is a strong moralist and a passionate debater on issues important to her. Though from a well-to-do area of Soul Society, she has always devoted her spare time and resources to helping out others in need, though sometimes it takes Momo's pragmatism to rein her in on particularly over-the-top notions. She never had the spiritual potential to be a shinigami and has always been ashamed that she lacked that capability.

Race: Soul

Biography: Shinobu began work at the Amber Teahouse in an effort to meet people from all over the afterlife, and dragged her wife Momo into the job with her. Where Momo hit it off well with the business aspects of running a tea shop, Shinobu was talented with people, replacing the hole left by Adelaide when it came to making the Amber Teahouse a home. When the teahouse was destroyed by Katsuji Ishin, Shinobu and Momo used Adelaide's money to help rebuild it. Since then she has become one of Adelaide's advisers in noble affairs, and a particularly outspoken one at that.

"Any last words? Lapsus, Lashiel!"
Lapsus is from Angelorum Lapsus, "Fall of the Angels".

ZANPAKUTOU SEALED FORM
Adelaide’s Zanpakutou is a slightly-longer-than-usual katana with a primarily-black blade and a sliver edge. Along the black base of the blade is a design in the silver of the edge, a sigil that vaguely resembled a unicursal hourglass. Her handle is wrapped in simple red and black wrapping.

ZANPAKUTOU SHIKAI FORM
Upon releasing Shikai, the tsuba slides along the blade, leaving a quarterstaff-like pole in its place. The etchings on the blade transfer to being on the staff itself, in a pure white that turns violet upon use of Kidou. The top of the staff extends in a rather visually stunning but harmless blade of fire that settles into position as a scythe blade of black with silver edges on both the inside and outside of the curve. At the center of the poll-side edge is a sigil resembling an hourglass. This is the symbol of Lashiel, the Seducer. When expending significant reiatsu, Lashiel becomes wreathed in harmless purple flames.

ZANPAKUTOU BANKAI FORM
Lashiel’s Bankai form, Lashiel of Corrupting Purity, is as a terrifying reimagining of the scythe that was Lashiel’s Shikai form. The weapon takes the form of a dual scythe, with a black-based silver-edged blade at both the top and bottom of the weapon both significantly enlarged over the original model to near preposterous extremes, pointed toward opposite sides in a clock-like fashion. The blades each bear the sigil of Lashiel in a glowing violet on the black part of the blade. Chains at both ends of the scythe wind around the staff running from end to end, hovering inches from the pole and move as if independent from the scythe. The etchings that once flashed upon the release of Kidou now blaze constantly and worked into this pattern now are three gemstones; amethyst, emerald and sapphire which symbolize Reason, Rectitude and Judgment respectively and blaze with an internal intense light, flashing brighter at each attack, with illumination increasing the more reiatsu is spent.

The changes to Adelaide are more dramatic. Her red hair takes tones of Lashiel’s own absolute black, making it look black with red underlining it. The bold green of Adelaide’s eyes seem to reflect a non-existent fire while in bankai as well. Speaking of fire, perhaps the most dramatic function of this transformation is the twin wings of violet flame that sprout from Adelaide’s back. Heatless and functionless, save for allowing Adelaide to glide centimeters above the ground, these colorful wings compliment a rather radical reimagining of her appearance. Now fully embracing Lashiel's sin, Adelaide wears absolutely nothing in her Bankai form, what little modesty she has preserved only by a shroud of mist in varying hues of purple that don't leave a whole lot to the imagination but provide some minor amount of guard against embarrassment, minor though it may be.

THE SEDUCER; LASHIEL
Sometimes called "Lash" by Adelaide, Lashiel herself is a woman with long black hair, eyes of pure black and very little clothing. Her form feels at once alluringly sensual and yet is accompanied by a feeling of discomfort akin to having forgotten something important. Her voice, too, is striking. It is like an angelic song, but it also gives a sense of something amiss. Lashiel has the ability to suppress or manifest wings of pure (though clearly harmless) fire.

The dual form of her beauty and discomfort in form is matched in personality. While Lashiel is a graceful companion (wise, poetic, talkative), she clearly has an agenda. Lashiel will consistently tempt Adelaide to use Shikai in circumstances where to do so would be overly dramatic, inappropriate, or reckless. In all honesty, Lashiel would like to get away with convincing Adelaide to use Shikai for kicks on a Saturday night.

Essential to maintaining a functional relationship, let alone earning the respect of the Seducer, is overcoming the temptation to use excessive force. Whereas most zanpakutou are symbiotic with their wielder, Lashiel seeks the "life" (as she calls it) that she derives from use, and views her wielder as a mechanism whereby her powers are released. Therefore, the relationship sought by this sword spirit is not truly symbiotic. She is also willing to let Adelaide believe anything in order to achieve these goals.

THE CITY OF LADIES
It's always dusk in Adelaide's inner world, the sunset shining gold, fuchsia and lavender across the sky in the most beautiful way. The city proper is built with an amazing combination of influences, as if Victorian England, Seireitei and ancient Greece and Rome were painted over a Venetian canvas. The city is the City of Ladies, a thought experiment engaged in by political philosopher Christine de Pizan. The city has long been in Adelaide's dreams, and now has been given form by her Zanpakutou.

The city is populated with "valiant ladies" according to the construction notes of Lady Christine, and there are hints and touches of some of history's greatest women throughout the city. In fact, the only problem is that the canals are dry because of a long-standing drought that has affected the land around the city for as far as the eye can see. Brown-green grass and withering trees fill the mainland and the ocean's water lies below the depth of the city's canal network. The only lush vegetation is a tree on a hillside which has a noose hanging from it. Creepily.

According to Lashiel, the drought is a symptom of the "fires in Adelaide's mind", so it is entirely probable that as Adelaide addresses issues in her life the state of the world will improve dramatically. While it is sometimes implied that the City of Ladies rests on an island, it is unclear based on the area that appears explored.

LASHIEL'S SHIKAI ABILITIES
Hellfire
A purely Hadou-enhancing ability, Hellfire allows the casting of Hadou at an additional 1.5 times Reiatsu and Kidou cost for a corresponding 50% boost in spellcasting area, power and/or duration. If used with the chromatic fire Hadou or actual Fire-based Hadou, the cost is two times and enhancement is increased to a full 100% power boost. In addition, Hellfire adds a cosmetic effect: the area both around Lashiel and around the target smell strongly of sulfur.

Fallen Allure
Lashiel can inflict a group of enemies with what any good seducer would: lust. At the initial cost of 10% Adelaide’s Reiatsu she can inflict any single target within five meters with a powerful... we’ll call it infatuation. The effect varies in strength based on the relative power of her adversary. Adelaide can, if she so chooses, extend this effect for up to five turns. At any time, a person may pay Reiatsu equal to Adelaide’s investment to rid themselves of this affliction.

LASHIEL'S BANKAI ABILITIES
Soulfire
Soulfire is the enhanced form of Hellfire. At the cost of 3% of her reiatsu per turn, Adelaide can augment all her kidou. While using Soulfire, Adelaide cannot use Lashiel's Shadow or Flames of Passion. As Soulfire is active, cosmetic flecks of silver light float around Adelaide and the scythe. Kidou used while Soulfire is active cost twice as much, and become twice as effective in terms of scope and magnitude. Chromatic fire and actual fire-based kidou may instead cost triple the normal and have triple the normal effectiveness.
This is the power of Lashiel as augmented by Lady Reason.

Lashiel's Shadow
This enhanced form of Fallen Allure is much more intense than its Shikai counterpart. At the initial cost of 5% base Reiatsu one target within five meters can be afflicted with Lashiel’s Shadow. Only one person can be afflicted with the Shadow at a time. While afflicted with Lashiel’s Shadow, Lash can overcome the afflicted with a morally purer passion than she does otherwise; love. Whenever the afflicted sees Adelaide they experience the purest sensation of love ever felt in their life, replacing the object of that affection with Adelaide. This is not a memory, but a replication of the emotion once experienced. While troublesome to most opponents, it can be particularly devastating to Hollows, as it harkens back to their humanity. By expending Reiatsu greater than Adelaide’s investment, the afflicted may lift Lashiel’s Shadow and cannot be affected by it again for five rounds.
This is the po wer of Lashiel as augmented by Lady Rectitude.

Flames of Passion
The "Final Strike” attack of Adelaide’s Bankai. By expending 75% of her remaining reiatsu, Adelaide unleashes the enhanced raw power of Lashiel and the fires of the Fallen Angels. The chains from the scythe cease to be dormant, instead lancing outward and multiplying as necessary to bind the targets of this attack for its duration. Adelaide then begins to spin her scythe in a clock-like fashion, and funnels her passion and reiatsu through the spinning blades. Lashiel then transforms and enhances this power into the cosmic fires of a solar flare. Adelaide can move the stream of fire by changing the direction of her scythe. This celestial flame attack can burn away most material. The raw power involved in this attack forces Adelaide out of Bankai, and if she lacks Mastery with Bankai she is fatigued after using this ability. If Adelaide does have mastery with her Bankai, following use of this ability, Adelaide cannot re-enter Bankai for five turns.
This is the power of Lashiel as augmented by Lady Justice.

Chains of Lust
Where the fires of passion are the root of most of the powers afforded by Lashiel, Chains of Lust draws its power from Adelaide’s own strengths; her history and her seductive potential. Adelaide can manipulate the chains of her scythe can act as weapons for the purposes of techniques that use weapons (Zanjutsu techs or Kenkyouka). Additionally, at the cost of 5% Adelaide’s reiatsu, the chains can inflict an intense feeling of lust and desire on whomever they touch. When doing this, Adelaide can make the chains wrap around the afflicted target, binding either the upper or lower body.
This represents Adelaide herself as empowered by the Ladies Reason, Rectitude and Justice.
