The Noble House of Amaterasu
Benefactor of West Seireitei

Keizoku wa chikara nari (継続は力なり)
"Perseverance is Strength"

On first glance, House Amaterasu seems as much your standard, run-of-the-mill Rukongai noble house as many other families. Nothing is less true than that, though. For generations House Amaterasu has prided itself as being Soul Society’s most decorated smithing family.

This recognition was received not without reason, as long before its current Matriarch Amaterasu Nana was even admitted into the Spiritual Arts Academy, the house was already known for producing high end weapons and armour for the various military organizations that portray Soul Society’s highest regions.

One of its more notable crafted weapons is the Ama-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, or Sword of the Gathering Clouds of Heaven, the companion blade of Amaterasu’s current Matriarch, Nana.

Each generation Head has added its own little touches to the blade, starting with the first Amaterasu, creating it to her sense of pride and justice, having been reforged countless times to suit its owner’s needs.

When Nana finally took up the blade from her ancestors, she infused the blade with the flames of her own life, causing the blade to gain certain magical properties.

This is not what House Amaterasu is most decorated for, though. A couple of centuries into the house’s existence, they were approached by a delegation of both the Central Forty-six and the Gotei Juusantai on a rather delicate matter.

They were tasked with, and granted the exclusive rights to creating a sword that would resonate with its shinigami master on such a level that it would allow for the Gotei’s soldiers to tap into incredible powers on the grounds that as long as the heir of their family was not a prominent figure within this very organization, they would remain a ‘simple’ noble family of the Rukon.

When Amaterasu Nana came of age, after having shown early signs of great spiritual prowess, she was admitted into the Shinoureijutsuin. Shortly after leaving the Academy began to make a name for herself in the Gotei Juusantai.

This eventually led her father to abdicate from his position as Patriarch of House Amaterasu and give the leadership of House Amaterasu to his third born, his daughter Nana.

Amaterasu Kyuu, being the firstborn of Amaterasu Yamato and Amaterasu Ami, was passed over due to an ancient custom that dictates as long as there is a daughter to the current ruler she automatically becomes heir apparent.

While Nana is actually the third born after Kyuu and her sister Michiko, she is actually the only one really born to her parents, with Michiko and kyuu being ‘born’ into Rukongai as souls from the realm of the living.

This, combined with a falling out between Michiko and Yamato years prior to Nana turning two hundred years of age, has made the blue-eyed death god the true heir of House Amaterasu.

It was not until she became Vice-captain of the Third through an honourable fight with Ri Cashien that she was actually appointed as Matriarch of Amaterasu. When it did happen, though, news traveled fast and tensions rose and subsided as the thought of House Amaterasu gunning for glory kept many a noble on their toes.

A feeling only further strengthened when a few months later, Amaterasu Nana was appointed Taichou of the newly reformed Blitzkrieg Strike Unit under the leadership of Soutaichou Sayis Inuzuri.

It was after this feat of strength that things began to pick up at an alarming pace.

Ancient, classified documents of houses that had sworn their loyalty to Amaterasu were dug up by the new Matriarch along with a plan to catch the eye of an entirely new vassal house.

As luck would have it for the two vassals that used to serve under House Amaterasu, the current heads of those houses - or in House Kagetoki’s case, it’s only surviving member - were both soldiers within the Gotei Juusantai that she befriended.

Haresuno of Uchiharu, Captain of the Founders, and Manzou Kagetoki, resident trouble maker of her very own division.

After a couple of more interactions, their respective agreements from the past were once more brought into service, and their continued servitude to House Amaterasu guaranteed.

It was also around this time that Nana took on Adelaide Pierce as a brand new vassal, hoping to extend her reach across the various districts even further.

By now House Amaterasu had cemented itself with various extensions quite amply, but it was not enough for the newly instated Matriarch. House Amaterasu needed to be put back on the map for eternity, and the Captain of the Blitzkrieg Strike Unit wasn't about to take no for an answer.

Stumbling across the frail events within House Metzer-Frey, Nana made her move against Metzer by taking in Frey's Matriarch, Lucia as her sister through an elaborate power play that left much to the imagination.

The change was almost overnight, and when the dawn of a new day came, House Amaterasu once more found itself among the higher echelons of the political world.

House of Amaterasu-Frey

Once a Greater House of Western Rukongai, the House of Amaterasu-Frey was created after the separation of the House of Metzer-Frey. While the House of Metzer was capable of retaining its status as upper nobility, due to holding the brunt of the contracts with the Central Forty-Six. Their position robbed, their fate remained on edge.

The current matriarch of House Frey, then Lucia Frey, reached out to an old friend in nobility, Amaterasu Nana. Her request for the merger of the two houses, with House Amaterasu fully absorbing House Frey was accepted, as she quickly returned to make plans for the merger.

At the next meeting of Frey heads, she put forth the motion only for mixed opinions. Many family members feared their pride, seeing the merger as a sign of weakness. Others were deeply distrustful of House Amaterasu, seeing it as nothing more than a high-level power play, though many agreed with Lucia’s proposal. As head of the house, she ordered the merger to occur.

Within one week, the House of Frey arrived at the compound of House Amaterasu, a white procession leading the way up to the house steps. With open arms her family was accepted, as they took found a new home on the noble grounds of House Amaterasu.

House Amaterasu-Frey no longer deals with production of luxury goods, instead, House Amaterasu-Frey deals with something even more precious, power. The members of the House are high level power-brokers. Using their many contacts with other noble houses, they specialize in the buying, selling and transfer of power. They facilitate mergers, oversee inter-house affairs of many nobles, and even dabble in the darker side of noble politics.
