Following the Cataclysm, people have grown to be capable of amazing things, some of which they would never have imagined prior to the collapse. Magic to channel unseen forces, tap into immortal realms. Technology to demonstrate the power of ingenuity and explore the limits of mortal potential. Each day, new ideas are added, new skills mastered, new discoveries made, adding a little bit more to the collective capabilities of the different races of Araevis.

There are some who go beyond what the general populace is capable of, however, those who, in one way or another, carve out a unique niche for themselves, one which has the potential to change them permanently. Those who attain such personal advancements are considered to be 'Magnum' tier. A very rare few top even that, becoming 'Ultimum' tier.

The Apocrypha shows all currently-approved magnum and ultimum releases, to kickstart some ideas for you or help you figure out the numbers.




Currently, there are three possible ways to attain Magnum:
  • becoming a Vistra through strength of arms;
  • becoming an Augur through dedicated exploration;
  • becoming an Artificer through the arts of creation or technology.
Each path involves fundamental changes to the character that prevent it from pursuing other paths; you cannot become a vistraugurtificer, or any combination thereof.

At the moment of its invocation, Rix'zinayl surrounds Dante with an aura of electricity, sparks occasionally appearing from his body. His hair also becomes more spiky and his eyes change colour from azure to crimson. The general appearance is as if he has been struck by lightning.

After assimilating with Rix'zinayl, a large lightning bolt shaped brand of seared flesh was burned to the back of the athlete's left shoulder, which periodically sparks with an unknown energy.

Name, First Ability: Sensory Overload

Description, First Ability:
By preprogramming a response in accordance to a trigger condition, Dante can exceed the reactionary limits of the human nervous system with an electrical charge.

Effect, First Ability:
It costs Dante 1000 Vigor to predict an action, if an enemy within 20 meters of the athlete and in his field of vision attempts a predicted action, the athlete can immediately close the distance and make an attack against that enemy. This cost is halved if Dante is in the Zone.

Name, Second Ability: Storm Dance

Description, Second Ability
By assuming a defensive stance and intent, Dante may dodge the first attack made against him in melee range this round, and make an immediate 10m dash in any direction.

Effect, Ability Two:
Using this ability costs 500 vigor to assume his defensive posture.
Two rounds must pass before this ability can be used again.

Sensory Overload: Increased range from 20m to 45m. Added a duration and cooldown of 3 rounds. If Dante makes a prediction and the action does not occur, there is no cost paid (but he still has the 3 round cooldown). Also, the ability now specifies a 'target' rather than an 'enemy.' He can also use this ability to support a partner, for instance, "If Aeria gets surrounded, I'm going to rush in to attack the closest assailant," or to punish an enemy, "if that guy points his gun at her, I'm going to bash his face in."

Storm Dance: Raised cost from 500 to 1000, but clarified that the cost is paid only if Dante is attacked. If you enter the defensive stance and are not attacked, you still lose your own chance to attack, but don't pay vigor on top of that.

So you have two predictive abilities (one offensive and one defensive). Should be interesting to see this counter style in action.

If a target is within 45 meters of the athlete and in his field of vision, Dante may make a prediction for an action that target will take within the next three rounds. If the predicted actions occurs, Dante can immediately close the distance between himself and his target, and may gain an extra attack.

This ability costs 1,000 Vigor, paid only after the predicted trigger occurs; the cost is halved if Dante is in the Zone. After making a prediction, Dante may not use Sensory Overload again until three rounds have passed.

Effect, Ability Two:
Dante initiates a defensive stance by voluntarily forgoing attacks in a combat round. If attacked in this state, Dante enters the Storm Dance, disappearing in a flash of lightning and reappearing up to 10m away. Dante may then attack as normal. This ability costs 1,000 Vigor, paid only after Storm Dance is triggered. If not attacked while in the defensive stance, there is no loss of Vigor; two rounds must pass before it can be attempted again, regardless of success or failure.

Although there seems to be no actual physical “corruption” of Kaizaell’s physical form there are, in fact, signs that he has been contaminated by a Pravum. The shadow below him seems to writhe, as if alive, and doesn’t react logically to change in lighting, although bright flashes of light seems to make it recoil back beneath the host.

However, when he is actively using his powers and invoking the Living Shadow beneath him the whites of his eyes seem to fade into a black color and the hazel color of his iris seems to invert to a yellowish color, giving him a monstrous appearance. He show’s great distress when this happens around children, as his appearance often frightens them.

Name, First Ability: [Shadow Play] - To Mold a Shadow

Description, First Ability:
Kaizaell can affect the shadows of a single target within a range of 45 meters from him, making it semi-solid and allowing him to attack it. If he attacks the shadow the damage reflects on the owner of the shadow, dealing the same magnitude of damage that would be dealt to the owner as if the attack had hit them directly.

In addition if an attack would pin a shadow to a point the attack tethers the person to a 10 meter distance from the pinning item, stretching the shadow slightly but allowing some small amount of movement. If the pinned owner of the shadow moves beyond this point “tearing” starts happening and wounds appear on the opponent as if the pinning object is getting ripped through the part of the body it is passing through within the shadow.

Effect, First Ability:
To activate this ability Kaizaell must pay 1000 vigor to activate as well as 500 additional vigor per turn to maintain the effect. The effect can be cancelled at any time and has a two turn cooldown before Kaizaell can select another target.

Name, Second Ability: [Shadow Step] - Amongst Shadows

Description, Second Ability
Kaizaell can use this ability to travel quickly to any shadow he can see within 45 meters of his current position instantaneously. He must step into another shadow to do so, but is given the ability to move quickly within combat. He disappears for a whole turn and reappears at the beginning of the turn after his next, disappearing for approximately 6 to 10 seconds from combat before reappearing at his intended target.

Outside of combat he can use this in a more controlled manner, though it takes him longer to do so. He must place a shadow-mark on a place first, then he must choose which location he wishes to travel to, then he must have uninterrupted concentration for 10 minutes. After that he can travel to the marked location. The travel seems instantaneous to him, but for every 1000 miles he travels he spends an hour of real world time in the shadow.

Kaizaell gains one Shadow Mark for each tier of renown he is at and the Mark is consumed when he teleports to its location.

He can also bring up to two other people that he grabs onto into the shadow with him, allowing him to ferry people for the ride, though if he lets go while in transit they will appear within the next few moments at a random shadow nearby.

Effect, Ability Two:
This is a costly maneuver, and he uses 2% vigor for the short range combat movement and 5% for every 1000 miles of longer range movement. For each person he brings along it costs an additional 2% for the short range and 5% for the long range movement. It has a cooldown of two turns before he can use this ability, whether in combat or out of combat, again.

I will however, offer some notes. Regarding the form, with a vistra, it's required to have some visible element. You can try to conceal it, as Keydis does by wrapping her arms, but there needs to be something where people can see it and recognize "this person is corrupted."

For the abilities, remember that "Description" is what it does, and "Effect" is the numbers. For the first ability, you're actually building in too many numbers and variables. The cost is very heavy, as well. The end result would be an ability you'd get to use once in a blue moon. To simplify, I would recommend a percentage cost (such as 2% per round) that allows Kaiza to affect any shadows within 30m, with an optional flat cost of ~500 to affect a single shadow within line of sight for one or two rounds. Using the longer-range version would put the entire ability on cooldown for 2-3 rounds.

Lots going on in the second ability. The long-range teleport I would say feels like a Unique Feat you could tie into the Magnum, but is too powerful for a magnum ability on its own. The shorter-range ability would need retooling in costs and cooldowns. This would probably be a flat cost but longer cooldown.

The veins leading up to his eyes are a brackish black color as well, leading to him wearing shaded glasses or lenses over his eyes to hide his monstrous nature. His shadow also seems to move independently of any light sources and shrinks or grows depending on the level of light around him.

Due to the infection, Kaizaell now sees in Monochromatic colors making him technically color-blind. He can only see in shades of black, grey and white.

This ability costs a 2% Vigor cost per round for any shadows within a 30 meter radius of himself. If he slashes at them, shoots at them or stabs them it causes damage comparable to the damage dealt to the shadow to the host. If an object stabs the shadow and can be considered something that can pin an enemy then the enemy will be pinned in place for as long as Kaizaell is materializing their shadow, only being able to move 10 meters away from the center of the pinning object within their shadow or take more damage by having it rip through their shadow, and consequently, their body.

In addition, for 500 Vigor he can affect a single shadow at up to 45 meters away from him but within line of sight for 2 turns. This causes him to be unable to affect any other shadows within the usual 30 meter radius while he is concentrating on the intended target.

Once the ability is cancelled or times out Shadow play cannot be used for the next 2 rounds.

Approved with revisions, including some grammatical stuff. The proper word for the 'white' of the eye is 'sclera' -- using that prevents confusion with saying 'the white of the eye is black.' Also, 'brackish' refers to an unpleasant, briny taste or smell -- 'murky' would be a good visual equivalent.

Trimmed some of the numbers down. Simplified the 'pinning' aspect. Removed the 45m restriction on the secondary Shadow Play ability. Reworded the ability to take a spin off the name, so that Kai is putting shadow "into play" with his ability. Reworded Shadow Step, as well, but it remains mostly unchanged mechanically. Slightly increased cost.

Kaizaell exists partially in a realm of shadows. Though he can only see in shades of grey, each shadow he sees is subtly distinct in his eyes and intrinsically linked to its owner. Within the influence of his power, he can put shadows into play, and while a shadow is 'in play,' what he does to the shadow happens to its owner, for good or ill.

[B]Effect, First Ability:[/B] 
At the cost of 2% Total Vigor per round, Kaizaell may place any number of shadows within a 30 meter radius into play. A shadow that is in play is treated as a reflection of its owner, and any action Kaizaell takes toward the shadow is reflected onto its owner. If the shadow should be pinned in place, the owner is bound by the current length of their shadow, able to move around but no further away until their shadow exits play or the pinning object is removed.

At the cost of 500 Vigor, Kaizaell can instead place a single shadow anywhere within his line of sight into play for two rounds. After this shadow exits play, one round must pass before Shadow Play can be activated again.

For brief moments in time, Kaizaell can slide fully into Murmur's shadow realm, moving from one shadow to another as easily as taking a single stride.

At the cost of 300 Vigor, Kaizaell can step from any shadow (including his own) to another shadow he can see within 45 meters. Two rounds must pass before this ability can be used again. 

It is possible to bring up to two others along with him. He must be touching them or their shadow, and pay an additional 300 Vigor per person. An additional round must pass for each person brought along this way before Shadow Step can be used again.
