Personality (Current Draft)
Emotional upon the fault line of persons, Scott is a sort who refuses to let go of the past. When he does or sees something wrong, it haunts him: eats him up from the inside before letting him go back to a calmer state. At times he enters fits of depression, alternating with those of confusion, anxiety, and otherwise general depressive traits.
Scott's interactions with others emphasize his care for even the enemy, should they make a move to comfort his woes. The majority of time sees him perform general (random, concerted) acts of kindness, even if it's no more than remembering a person's name or holding a friend when they need to cry -- he does so partially because the knowledge he shares that boon with those companions is quite clear.
At times, Scott can be slow and sluggish in thought; at times of great chaos, such as a fight [like the Second Siege of Seireitei], he feigns boldness or bravery to keep on going. Much of that hour is spent in constant self-doubt and inconceivable discomfort, being that he dislikes himself and who he is much of the time.
The hobbies which keep this man going are simple, Chess and coffee. Chess for the enjoyment, coffee to keep his tired young eyes from closing when the hour is nigh for medical treatment. This naturally has its drawbacks, particularly when he drinks the Eight Division's special "Rock'em, Sock'em" coffee (which induces a stupor much like alcohol), and yet it is one habit he cannot kick.
Physical Stature
Broad arms and lanky legs counter a lean torso for Mr. Layton, a haphazard structure befitting an underdeveloped teenager. His weight uneven, blond hair mussed and projected in jutting plateaus, Scott also seems to strike the stereotypical look of a stereotypical teenage punk in such respects. Even so, the fire in his warm, olive eyes reflects a quietly sharp spirit unworthy one so young.
Scott Layton is a man dressed in a traditional outfit, that of a black robe, white undergarment, and simplistic sandals. Unique to his own uniform, though, his head adorns itself with a deep-violet bandana worn cockeyed due to its small size -- it simply cannot fit his cranium, and so Scott's taken to strapping and tying it to the left side of his head.
Zanpakutou: 'Ceres'
Sealed, Ceres takes the shape of a broadsword. Quite sturdy and long, of course broad as the name implies, Ceres is decorated by a wave pattern across the hilt and guard. This carries over to the blade's pattern, which is also slightly less than a yard in length. The guard and pommel are both colored a bright, fluorescent aquamarine tint; her blade, almost an inch thick, can cut through simple, unprotected Hollow flesh like butter.
Life on Earth
Scott was born a frail child, neither physically fit nor economically valid. Keith and Blair Layton both were working class, and so in his early days of childhood, their sons and daughter subsisted on the bare essentials. Even then, times were hard, and the addition of Scott to the family was hardly a solution.
Less than a decade later, the Laytons lost their beloved daughter to a cruel twist of fate. Stricken by grief and pain, as well as the financial burdens of funeral cost, Scott's family declared bankruptcy. The nearer side of a year after, both of their older sons (ages 16 and 20) went out into the workplace, foregoing schooling, to sustain the family. Scott was, naturally, unable to work at his young age.
Life, fraught in peril and pain, carried on for at least a few choice years. Keith Layton earned a spot at the top of his company, ensuring their clan's financial survival; and Scott was kidnapped, beaten, and ultimately, killed in a car crash that also claimed his captors.
Life in Seireitei
Eight years... It's long enough to make men rot and go mad. Long enough for any number of outcomes, really, any number of unsavory alternatives that were entirely plausible had Scott not been taken in by a friendly sort of people in Northern Rukongai.
Calling themselves the Singer family, Scott's adoptive clan set about welcoming their new "son" by attempting to teach him swordplay... which he failed miserably at, time being that. Instead, Scott took to apprenticeship in the clinic of a local doctor. Apparently he was quite the apt student, as this physician passed on any number of Rukongai's fine medicinal formulas to the boy.
Upon a disagreement with the Singers, however, the child sought refuge in the Seireitei's Academia. There he enthralled himself in studies of quite a curious volume of forgotten lore, ere graduation. Graduation, appointment, duty -- honor!
Death... life, purpose, and even moreso, the appearance of those he would come to regard as friends.

Personality (Initial Draft)
Often quiet, Scott isn't said to be purely quiet. Often, in attempts to fit in or appear stronger than he is, he'll feign humor or boldness. He isn't bold, and he isn't brash or brave; shy, simple, slow, and/or steady could best be substituted. Scott, having a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome, lacks basic social skills and has had to substitute his own observations with actual interactive experience.
In his interactions he frequently loses his mental bearings, though he prefers the term "lost in thought" to "spacing out." Scott is also prone to mishearing things radically, which leads to such interpretations as "I've wrought the ****ens!" from "I've got the chicken!" (as in an edible foul on a feasting day; a fairly amusing anecdote, aged eight). Though, to be fair, he has gotten much better of not actually saying the misheard phrase.
Scott often comes across as cordial and empathetic to most. He tries in earnest, lives to please, and yet only struggles with his own self.

According to the Captain, my Connection did, indeed, absorb the VC bonuses of Marcus Euchre. Going back, I've added that to the Connection, though it's far from set in stone. If I've made a grievous error, please bring it to my attention.
The above Kidou spells are those equipped for a given week. The full list is going to be in a later post..
