---------------

Gender: Male

Age at Death: 15

Appearance Age wise: Late-teens

Sum-Total Age: 23

Division: Third Company, Sixth Seated

Personality (Current Draft)

Emotional upon the fault line of persons, Scott is a sort who refuses to let go of the past. When he does or sees something wrong, it haunts him: eats him up from the inside before letting him go back to a calmer state. At times he enters fits of depression, alternating with those of confusion, anxiety, and otherwise general depressive traits.

Scott's interactions with others emphasize his care for even the enemy, should they make a move to comfort his woes. The majority of time sees him perform general (random, concerted) acts of kindness, even if it's no more than remembering a person's name or holding a friend when they need to cry -- he does so partially because the knowledge he shares that boon with those companions is quite clear.

At times, Scott can be slow and sluggish in thought; at times of great chaos, such as a fight [like the Second Siege of Seireitei], he feigns boldness or bravery to keep on going. Much of that hour is spent in constant self-doubt and inconceivable discomfort, being that he dislikes himself and who he is much of the time.

The hobbies which keep this man going are simple, Chess and coffee. Chess for the enjoyment, coffee to keep his tired young eyes from closing when the hour is nigh for medical treatment. This naturally has its drawbacks, particularly when he drinks the Eight Division's special "Rock'em, Sock'em" coffee (which induces a stupor much like alcohol), and yet it is one habit he cannot kick.

Personality (Initial Draft)

Often quiet, Scott isn't said to be purely quiet. Often, in attempts to fit in or appear stronger than he is, he'll feign humor or boldness. He isn't bold, and he isn't brash or brave; shy, simple, slow, and/or steady could best be substituted. Scott, having a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome, lacks basic social skills and has had to substitute his own observations with actual interactive experience.

In his interactions he frequently loses his mental bearings, though he prefers the term "lost in thought" to "spacing out." Scott is also prone to mishearing things radically, which leads to such interpretations as "I've wrought the ****ens!" from "I've got the chicken!" (as in an edible foul on a feasting day; a fairly amusing anecdote, aged eight). Though, to be fair, he has gotten much better of not actually saying the misheard phrase.

Scott often comes across as cordial and empathetic to most. He tries in earnest, lives to please, and yet only struggles with his own self.

Physical Stature

Broad arms and lanky legs counter a lean torso for Mr. Layton, a haphazard structure befitting an underdeveloped teenager. His weight uneven, blond hair mussed and projected in jutting plateaus, Scott also seems to strike the stereotypical look of a stereotypical teenage punk in such respects. Even so, the fire in his warm, olive eyes reflects a quietly sharp spirit unworthy one so young.

Scott Layton is a man dressed in a traditional outfit, that of a black robe, white undergarment, and simplistic sandals. Unique to his own uniform, though, his head adorns itself with a deep-violet bandana worn cockeyed due to its small size -- it simply cannot fit his cranium, and so Scott's taken to strapping and tying it to the left side of his head.

Zanpakutou: 'Ceres'

Sealed, Ceres takes the shape of a broadsword. Quite sturdy and long, of course broad as the name implies, Ceres is decorated by a wave pattern across the hilt and guard. This carries over to the blade's pattern, which is also slightly less than a yard in length. The guard and pommel are both colored a bright, fluorescent aquamarine tint; her blade, almost an inch thick, can cut through simple, unprotected Hollow flesh like butter.

Life on Earth

Scott was born a frail child, neither physically fit nor economically valid. Keith and Blair Layton both were working class, and so in his early days of childhood, their sons and daughter subsisted on the bare essentials. Even then, times were hard, and the addition of Scott to the family was hardly a solution.

Less than a decade later, the Laytons lost their beloved daughter to a cruel twist of fate. Stricken by grief and pain, as well as the financial burdens of funeral cost, Scott's family declared bankruptcy. The nearer side of a year after, both of their older sons (ages 16 and 20) went out into the workplace, foregoing schooling, to sustain the family. Scott was, naturally, unable to work at his young age.

Life, fraught in peril and pain, carried on for at least a few choice years. Keith Layton earned a spot at the top of his company, ensuring their clan's financial survival; and Scott was kidnapped, beaten, and ultimately, killed in a car crash that also claimed his captors.

Life in Seireitei

Eight years... It's long enough to make men rot and go mad. Long enough for any number of outcomes, really, any number of unsavory alternatives that were entirely plausible had Scott not been taken in by a friendly sort of people in Northern Rukongai.

Calling themselves the Singer family, Scott's adoptive clan set about welcoming their new "son" by attempting to teach him swordplay... which he failed miserably at, time being that. Instead, Scott took to apprenticeship in the clinic of a local doctor. Apparently he was quite the apt student, as this physician passed on any number of Rukongai's fine medicinal formulas to the boy.

Upon a disagreement with the Singers, however, the child sought refuge in the Seireitei's Academia. There he enthralled himself in studies of quite a curious volume of forgotten lore, ere graduation. Graduation, appointment, duty -- honor!

Death... life, purpose, and even moreso, the appearance of those he would come to regard as friends.

According to the Captain, my Connection did, indeed, absorb the VC bonuses of Marcus Euchre. Going back, I've added that to the Connection, though it's far from set in stone. If I've made a grievous error, please bring it to my attention.

The above Kidou spells are those equipped for a given week. The full list is going to be in a later post..

Zanpakutou and Releases

Scott's Zanpakutou

Shi Kai

Ceres

Form

Ceres retains its original, unbridled form of armguards here, the difference being that these gauntlets are made of hardened leather instead. Eight strips of white aura intertwine across each armguard, holding and cementing energies into place. These two appendages are also bridged by a collection of blue particles, streaming as they move. The two guards are fully capable of blocking physical attacks, be it from a sword or Hollow's claw, depending on Scott's own skill.

Ability -- Sanctus Sano (Holy Healing)

Scott places two hands onto that which he wishes to aid, undulating it with a series of aura pulses. The end result is to add a +20% bonus to defensive structure, thereby weakening all attacks directed at it with a spiritual shield, also ridding the body's system of poisonous impurities. This effect can be used on Scott, himself, though it only grants a 10% protection bonus while simultaneously casting the Chiyudo "Antidote." Both effects wear off after three rounds.

When used against Hollows, however, Sanctus Sano actually inflicts a resounding wound upon it and instantly forces it back as if struck by a full-force blow. The wound festers with pain; within two rounds it arrives at the mask and creates a tiny imperfection, where the mask's integrity may be more easily broken. This actively works on Arrancar and Vizards, as well, but it almost always has to impact the mask itself.

Each usage type drains 2% of Scott's Reiatsu per use.

Ban Kai

Shimmering Luna

Form

As it is summoned, Shimmering Luna augments the previous release's armguards into two dual, pistoning cannon-arms of sorts. Reaching up beyond the elbow by a good half foot, these arm armors cover the entirety of both arms in a bright, white-and-blue-streaked outfit connected at the torso in green. Several swatches of white cloth, translucent and untouchable by any but he, hang from each arm, draping such that they may be yanked and manipulated by Scott as he feels necessary. Scott's uniform shifts as well, becoming a more abstract amalgamation of various colors, shapes, and geometrical symbols.

Ability: Star Curtain

An ability used to "draw the curtain" on Scott, the Star Curtain skill makes ample use of his arms' cloths. Rapidly expanding and wrapping around the fabric all about Scott's body, in a flourish Scott instantaneously transmits to another space in spatial displacement. To make this ability work, Scott must have deposited 2% of his Reiatsu into the warp point, and must use an additional 3% to make the leap.

In addition, the warp points created may further be used as a "secondary entity" for casting Kidou. Basically, a Kidou that is cast may be increased in cost by ¼ of its base, and then sent from any of the warp points thus created. That same cost penalty is also accrued as a comparative bonus when calculating damage and effect power, however. For every 1,000 points in Kidou, one warp point may be created.

Attack: Eclipser

Eclipser is an attack which swipes one or both arms in a wide arc, undulating the air and sending a wide gravitational wave in one direction. At the apex of its swing, however, the wave distends and explodes, taking out a much wider sphere of damage than otherwise assumed. Eclipser consumes 10% of Scott's Reiatsu per use.

Shinno Ban Kai

Twilit Sanctuary

Form

Upon initiation, Shimmering Luna dissolves both of the previous state's gauntlets, leaving them in a sort of film as red as ruby, yet as clear as glass strewn across Scott's frame. This filament is called 'Santifico Redemptor,' or 'Hallowed Redeemer,' and is charged with Scott's own power. The Santifico Redemptor flies through the air with a flick of the body, allowing it to move at a moment's notice wherever Scott wishes. It may also break off into a second segment, half the mass and half the durability. Sadly, by itself it isn't much more durable than actual glass or plastic.

Ability: Sanctuary's Twilight

Sanctuary's Twilight is used to store, combine, and otherwise alter the characteristics of Kidou magics. By chanting the proper incantations, Scott can place up to ten Kidou in a queue at once -- store them, ready them for instantaneous casting, and perhaps even merge them to form a new Kidou.

During the queue, 'Twilight' does not disrupt the casting of spells normally, so even with a full twelve Kidou charged, it wouldn't halt Scott from casting, say, a barrier really quick. The highest-level spell in the queue, however, must be equal or less to one-half of Scott's Kidou.

Additionally, this ability is able to merge spells together to some degree. The way it works is that, by taking Reiatsu in cost equal to the spells combined, Sanctuary's Twilight's power merges them to create a custom effect. This requires a chant unique to the combo spell, utilizing segments of each of the spells unified. The exact semantics of which parts go where (and which parts are included) may change depending on what the situation calls for.

Only two spells may be combined, with the effects changing dependent upon which and when they were instituted into the chain. If Scott places, say, a Bakudou over a Hadou, then the effects of said Bakudou would be the dominant half of the equation.

Attack: Sacrosanct

Drawing the essence of his own, unique Reiatsu into one hand, Scott solidifies the Santifico Redemptor, coats it with Kidou, and either: 1) Throws it in an arc; or 2) Stabs it into the ground. Both are essentially the same attack, though with different areas of impact.

When thrown in an arc, the Sacrosanct jaunts up and drives down, sharply exploding in a wild spasm of energy. If driven into the earth, instead, that force will concentrate beneath Scott and ravage the ground underneath for a wider radius.

Both uses drain 8% of Scott's Reiatsu, also adding 500 points of damage for every 1,000 points in his Kidou stat.

Non-Player Characters (NPCs)

Celadon 'Shelly' Nidus

Status: Alive, active shinigami

Division: Gobantai

Relation to Scott: Friend since before death

Personality

Harsh and bold, Shelly is far from afraid to speak her mind. In times of trouble she often remains calm, though when confronted with a threat to her status quo or one of her loved ones (especially Scott) there is a tendency to break off into a slew of obscenities, insults, and threats.

In general she has a good heart, and yet holds no impetus to improve. Her contentment with her life begins and ends with her "big brother," Scott Layton. The relationship she has with him is mostly unknown.

Physical Stature

Small, squirrelly, Celadon is a clear example of the term "jailbait." Her underdeveloped curves and chest are far from the highlights of her frame: that honor is reserved for the svelte features of her face.

Shelly's facial features are soft, delicately reaching across all of the silken white flesh and ebony black tresses upon it, where the latter often falls into her eyes -- an olive green, understated as her face, and yet such a calming picture to stare into. She wears the typical uniform of the Gotei Thirteen, no changes or alterations.

Zanpakutou: Vesper ("Evening Star")

Vesper's sealed state is quite elegant in and of itself. The blade has midareba, or an irregular pattern: coiling in six curved angles around a singular, gem-encrusted hand guard. Its hilt is amply decorated by swirls of flower and the red of fire, with most of the bottom half being black with white "stars."

Quick Musing

Stern and strong, lean and only rarely wrong, Celadon is a friend among friends when her loved ones aren't well. She can be kind, gentle, and wise -- not necessarily at the same time, but still a nice balance every so often. Shelly is quite possibly Scott's closest friend and confidant.

Takehiko Isamu

Status: Alive, active shinigami

Division: Rokubantai

Relationship to Scott: Friend since Rukongai

Personality

Somewhat confident and overbearing, Isamu is not often liked on the first go-around with his peers and superiors. His is a nature that exemplifies valor and talent far over that of concern and merit. He is often the first in the Sixth to draw blood, much like one of the Eleventh Division, and as befits the catchphrase of that division --'first to bleed, and last to die.'

Isamu's nature is generally placid when not involved in combat. Of course, he isn't a good Samaritan even then; but hearing polite banter is preferable to polite insults. He speaks in an old tone, much like he was born in the Japanese middle ages. This can cause discomfort among his friends, and, when used in battle, irritation to his enemies.

Physical Stature

Isamu stands slightly higher than Scott, around 175 cm. in height. His body structure is far more elegant than his ally's, more balanced and even plainly adult. He wears his black hair in a jagged, spiky pattern much of the time... Though, at formal occasions, Isamu's mandate is that he must bear a samurai's knot.

Zanpakutou: Torinashi ("Intercession")

A simple katana, black and slate gray in its cleanly-segmented hilt.
Quick Musing

Hated as much by the Captain, Isamu is still the single NPC created by me that matches Scott in an antagonistic fashion. Where my character is often emotional, Isamu maintains a cool countenance. Scott, for all his concern for others, is a contrast to Isamu's sardonic nature and indifference. Thus, in a way, Isamu plays a "foil" for Scott, I believe is the term. I personally like messing with him more than Shelly, but...
