Hollow Knight

A fantastic game in many senses of the word. The music is haunting. The atmosphere is impeccably moody. The combat is simple, meaty and satisfying. Controls are smooth. Hollow Knight is a great Metroidvania style game.

Find it on Steam.

Welcome to Hallownest

In Hollow Knight, you play as a little bug that wandered into a kingdom far beyond its prime. Everything is decaying. Most of the citizens are dead. The ones that aren’t have gone crazy and will attack. Only a few scant people will talk to you. If this sounds like Dark Souls, this game evokes that kind of feeling. It has a dreary, haunting atmosphere.

The story unfolds slowly. In the beginning, you’re not even sure what you’re doing. Only by setting out and exploring will you find out.

A bit of peace

The artstyle of the game is fantastic. Things might look cute, but there is a lot of creepiness abound. The backgrounds are gorgeous, and there is a large amount of places to see and enemies to beat.

The combat is simple, but that allows you to focus on dodging and defeating the enemy most of all. You do get spells to expand your arsenal a bit, but basic attacks will be the bulk of your action. Also, some advice, you can attack upwards and downwards, and both are really important.

Time to explore

The platforming in this game is mostly simple, but there are a few challenging spots. Especially later on. You’ll have to fight on small platforms and there are some challenges, too. They are quite difficult.

The most well done part of the game is probably the bosses. There are a lot of them, and they’ll all challenge you in different ways. You’ll have to beat magic throwing teleporters, giant knights, strange shadows and more. To beat them, you’ll need to learn the patterns and how to dodge.

Here we go!

Everything about this game is well put together. It even includes several free content packs. They provide several extra challenges for those that have finished the base game.

Need something to get through that tough shell

Are you brave enough to explore through a fallen kingdom and perhaps save it in the end? Will the others you meet survive and thrive or give into the despair of it all? Will you be brave the depth and find out the truth of what’s happening?

Hollow Knight. Find it on Steam.

Also, this is a hot spring. Is this supposed to be relaxing to me? What are those in the background?
