Hah, you thought my Final Fantasy VII Remake was a two part review, but it’s not. It’s three! This is the INTERmission, a DLC story that is included with the Intergrade. INTERmission is entirely new story expanding the role of Yuffie Kisaragi. Since it is a part of Intergrade, get it with the Intergrade on Steam.

Yuffie was an optional character in the original game, but I guess she’ll be required part of the game now. This is mainly story is mainly for fun and expands on her motivations and story a bit. In this story, she’s coming to Midgar to steal the ultimate materia made by Shinra. Along the way, she’ll play some minigames and do some sidequest first, of course.

The DLC is great in terms of making Yuffie a fun and endearing character. She is just so cute in her mannerisms while still being kind of bratty. The character interactions and little moments are great, just like in the main game. Even though you don’t interact with anyone from the main game, since they haven’t met her yet, this game does take place during the main game. Yuffie is just off doing her own thing at the moment.
Her fighting style is fun to use. She is a fast and versatile character that can add magical elemental to her attacks, fight in both long range and close range, and her skills have a fun ninja theme.
She won’t be going alone, either, as a new character will join you for the duration of the DLC.

Okay, though I gotta go back to my previous Red XIII complaint. You can make Sonon a part of the party but not Red XIII? You can give both Sonon and Yuffie several weapon skills but not Red XIII? Sure, you’re not allowed to directly control Sonon, but you can still give him orders. He feels like a full member of the party with equippable items and materia setups.
He contrasts well against Yuffie, being older and more calm. Still, Yuffie is in charge since she’s technically more experienced when it comes to being a ninja.
There is more to do than just the main story. There are two minigames you get to play and several side quests if you want to experience Midgar as Yuffie does. I am impressed at how much work they did for one minigame that only exists for one quest. It’s quite a lot.

Fort Condor is sort of a real time strategy came where you place your units and they automatically march against the enemy units. If you played the original game, it is similar to the Fort Condor minigame from there. It looks great with a charming style and is a good time waster.
The other minigame is simply a box-breaking minigame.

The story part doesn’t take too long, but they make all of their cutscenes count showing off Yuffie’s thoughts and personality. There is also some growth and change to her, but not too much since most of that is still coming.
The INTERmission is a fun addition to the game showing off what used to be an optional character from the original game. If this is how Yuffie is, I can’t wait to see more of her with the rest of the group in the next game. I have also gained a new appreciation for her theme song. It’s pretty catchy.
Find it with the Intergrade.
