[10th/3rd] Week ---: Round 1: Toride Satoru vs Mabara Tsubaki

Satoru couldn't really say he was surprised as she suddenly overcame the bindings. It was literally the weakest binding in existence. It was when he felt the massive bolts of spiritual energy lancing toward him, each growing in power and intensity, that his earlier panic at the mercy of her Duskdrinker began to cement itself as a factor his thoughts. Thankfully they fizzled out before they could even reach him, but that did not stop him from running like hell to try and escape his fate.

As he reached the end of his constructed pathway, he set foot on the bulldozer just in time to see the darkness of Break of Dusk erupt from her rapidly closing form. The Mystic was not really fazed by the sudden darkness, as his spiritual senses were more than keen enough to pick up the woman. What troubled him was the sheer speed with which she moved toward him. It was almost as if the very air before her was terrified to remain in her path, much as he was.

His heart crept into his throat when she moved with such speed, ferocity, and intent that he could not force himself to try and move. An involuntary gasp of fear left his throat when the Rite of Rebellion was but mere inches from his throat alongside the tattooed hand wrapped around his neck.

Somewhere in the Mystic's mind, the more logical side of his brain began weighing potential options after the woman requested his surrender. Animagus would take entirely too long to pull off for a dodge. Koutaizumai would not help the fact that she was in physical contact with him. Several levitatable materials lay scattered around him, but none would reach the two fast enough. The woman had proven in this instant that her physical ability was leagues above his own. If he were to give up here, he could move on to the next round with little physical damage as well. All of this information flashed across his mind as the Righteous Devil awaited his final decision.

"Very well, Templar," the Inquisitive responded. "The purpose of a tournament is to best your opponent, and you've done so here. By the definition of this event, I have little choice but to concede."

The Fourth Seat smirked as he turned to look Tsubaki directly in her leonine irises.

"Congratulations! You can now brag that you have defeated a superior officer," he said in a joking tone.

To the zanpaktou that had served him faithfully in this brief, yet difficult match, Satoru mentally said, Thank you Dia. Without you, that last counter would not have been possible. We make a good team, you know!

The crimson bat simply gave a gentle chuckle and responded,
It's about time you figured that out.

Well, it looks like this guy still wants to make it back to Seireitei alive, the avian mystic noted as Toride's voice rang across the quarry, the only thing resounding after the throng of crashes and explosions subsided.

"Congratulations for making it alive so far, Toride. Though I was slightly anticipating when you'd bastardize this thing with legit bird shit," the woman transmitted through Taidan as her silhouette appeared in the distant horizon, the shadow of a smile lining her features.

Or course, only the two of them knew what that actually meant.

"Then you've clearly never seen me curb-stomp a Captain." She smiled back, half-joking but half-not. "But, if you play your cards right you may get a ringside seat when I go up against Mr. Soutaichou himself." Tsubaki lowered the weapon previously held in suspension of a killing stroke, sheathing it at her side and managing a grim chuckle in the process.

"And, assuming I survive that? Well, you could seek me out I suppose. I might even teach you something useful." The former Captain managed her best good-natured smile, trying to be nice to the boy for the first time since they crossed paths.

"And besides," The smile widened as she jerked a thumb back to where Pierce still lingered. "it'd probably drive Captain Coattails mad to know one of her own was consorting with a deviant like me."

With one last grin and a knowing shrug of her shoulders Tsubaki walked towards the edge of the arena, flitting off to await whatever lay ahead in the next heat.
