Theo had trained day in and day out with his sword, Shidori was her name. A fun bubbly woman with curves that could drive a man to kill himself, although, a sadness hit behind her smile and in the depths of her eyes. The two had learned to fight relatively well together over the past year however, outside of their union, when she leant him her power.
Compared to his body his sword was cumbersome and too large for him to wield effectively. However, through the will of his partner he would grow and become much larger, more mature, faster, stronger. It was a truly beautiful symbiotic relationship where they both gained something from the other, never realizing how alike one was to the other. Unfortunately, despite their close training, Theo never really felt a natural at the zanjutsu arts. His affinity for long range combat was apparent in his own personal will but not that of his swords. This cross roads that the two faced was their hardest obstacle to overcome currently.
There the young boy sat, the fog of the mountain just rolling in and the sun just peeking above the clouds. He let out a deep sigh as the look of exhaustion was painted all over his body. His body slouched, his eyes droopy and his voice even less enthusiastic than normal. The two lovers you could say had just been speaking with one another with yet another meeting ending in a failed agreement.
Shidori was an up close and personal kind of girl while Theo never really enjoyed meeting or even touching other people. She wanted him to be empathetic towards people but, to someone who’s emotional intelligence was severely lacking it proved to be a feat he could not completely comprehend.
“Theo baby, you need to loosen up. It’s not hard to touch someone. Here, here, maybe even here, but, baby, please loosen up. Look, lets try one of those long range things that we saw those primitive humans using a few months back. Granted, you wouldn't be able to use it without me but, together we could wield it, and, get a bit closer.”
Her arms pulled in a manner that suggested a bow, the young man’s eye intrigued. He had seen the humans use a bow and arrows in an archery competition, his eyes huge at the spectacle. Although, he would never intentionally hurt Shi as he had come to fancy her as an individual.
“I do remember the competition but, I could never use something like that. You know as well as I do that a sword has always been the weapon of the shinigami. What would the others think of me?”
The young woman looked around, she placed her hand on the grown man before her as she rest her bousims on his shoulder as her lips whispered next to his ear. “Fuck. Them.” Her words crude but, it was the perfect thing to say to the young boy, Shi’s attitude toward the world was vastly different. She did not care what others thought and did not mind living in a morally gray area. She would inevitably cause him to grow. Whether that was in the direction of something he did not want was entirely up to him. The only thing the mature woman knew was that she needed to teach Theo his own perception of the world regardless of what others thought. Since the academy conformity has been drilled into him, something that the youth of a woman detested. You could say that she was a bit jaded toward Soul Society which also meant that on some level, Theo’s subconscious he was as well.
The blue eyed child pondered everything that his partner had said. Her illogical way of thinking made a drastic amount of logical sense. Why should he be the one to conform to the standards and practices of others when each person was different, as long as no one was hurt, he should be fine regardless if he would be branded something he was not. He knew who he was and so did Shi.
“I understand your point of view Shidari-sama.” An annoyed look crept on the woman’s face. She hated his formal tongue. “However, we must practice in secret for the time being. Unlike you I am not the epitome of not caring what others think. For now, we will do things my way until they prove to not gain us any results.”
The annoyed look still staring at the young man, her hands folded across her chest. She nodded her head as her long azure pigtails bounced with a slight hidden joy. Baby steps my boy. One day, I’ll turn you into the man I know you can be and then the world will see the beautiful butterfly.
Theo’s hands slapped his lap as he got up from his mediating position. He did fancy the idea of a bow but, would he really be outcast for something like that. Only time would tell. For now he drew his sword from the ground and sheathed it once more, its awkward size causing his footing to stumble slightly. Maybe you should lose some weight Shidaria-sama. What was clearly a joke was not taken as that. Her temperament instantly turning red hot as the two walked back to the First Division grounds.
“First things first, research, surveillance, and then practical experience. I can not do things any other way so you will have to bare with me.”
The hot headed woman rolled her eyes as the clouds began to dissipate and the sun shined down and the exhausted boy, trails of blue fog stripping away the aged version of himself until he looked normal. He would now become a secretive child, more so than before and with good reason. He risked much to gain little but everyone had to do things their own way and a part of growing up was learning your own way of doing things. However, he just hoped that the paper thin connections he made with people would not rip if they ever found out what he was doing.
It was time to study the Quincy.
