Deep in the underground caverns of the Blitzkrieg Strike Unit a lone figure stood with arms crossed against the inhumanly warm walls of a long, winding hallway. Her long, black hair, normally tied in a ponytail, hung from the sides of her face an unnatural, red glow emanating from various strands, brightening up the dimly-lit hallway.
Her piercing blue eyes were cast downwards with the captain’s eyelids half-shut as if she were simply waiting for something to break her from her near-slumber. Her elegantly long, black dress was covered mostly by the woman’s long-sleeved haori, the number three emblazoned on the back, and her now trademarked ripped, black stockings finished off the look of a battle-hardened woman.
The ruby-teardrop necklace she was wearing hung softly around her neck, swinging silently and slowly back and forth in the presence of the woman’s enormous reiatsu.
Her breathing was slightly erratic, in part due to the sheer depth of the cavern she found herself in, and was probably the only thing that breached through the silence that permeated the ancient corridor.
That is, aside from the occasional earth-shattering thuds coming from behind a pair of black, heavily chained doors leading to an unknown destination. No one, save for Nana herself, knew what horrors awaited behind those thick doors and it was for that exact reason that she had summoned her division’s newest arrival to this place.
The seal was weakening, and she figured if she had to take along someone to help her reinforce it... why not the new initiate?
“Hmm,” said the fearless woman as she slowly and playfully marched through the dark cavern, hands behind her back.
“What an odd location to host a meeting,” she cheerfully said to no one in particular. Aurelia removed her hands from behind her back and tossed a few silvery locks over her shoulder. A pebble fell to the hard-rock floor.
Click clack.
Aurelia’s blood red eyes traced the the pebble back to a tarantula and a rat. A smiled etched onto her fair face as she went in for a closer look. “Aww, I hope this gets good!” she said, her eyes narrowed sharply at the staredown.
The rat simply saw Aurelia and began to flee.
“Wait!” she called out as she hopped onto the rat’s tail, preventing it from fleeing. A satisfying expression befell her face as she daydreamed about the possible outcome of the situation. Her crimson eyes rolled toward the spider as it inched its way over towards its prey.
“That’s it little fellah. Come and get ‘im,” she cheerfully called to the fuzzy creature. “This will be grand. Simply marvelous!
“I hope this creature bleeds him dry!”
The tarantula rose its front legs and took a stance. It hissed and then pounced.
“TCH!” tisked the bloodthirsty female, swatting the spider from her arm. “You pesky little bastard!” she angrily spat. Aurelia glanced at the wound of which already began to bruise, bleed, and swell.
“So you want to die that badly, eh?” she questioned, removing a dagger from the belt on her hip, “Very well! you should have took your chances with the rat!”
Aurelia raised her foot, releasing the rats tail. The rat took off as fast as it could.
“Where do you think you’re going?” she spat with venom as she turned a crimson stare on to the rat. Aurelia quickly flung the dagger in the rodents direction. A loud squeal echoed the area. Another satisfied smile quickly painted her face as a ruby substance oozed from the dying rats body. “Ahh, such an exquisite sight.”
The bloodthirsty woman turned her sights to the eight-legged arachnid. “Now,” she began in a playful tone, “what should I do with you?” she inquired, an evil chuckle echoed the air in her immediate area.
“Oh... I know...”
Though perhaps not immediately picked up by the noblewoman, the sound of rodents and other unfortunate souls being tormented within the cavern by the rather loud mouthed arrival was not lost on Nana.
Not that she particularly cared what this young and energetic woman felt like doing in her spare time, though. If her way of killing time was to kill off a bunch of spiritual pests, then that was her choice. Certainly not Nana’s, and one she would normally recommend, but a choice nonetheless.
Still she remained silently backed against the wall, her arms crossed and her eyes half-shut. She was in no hurry, and if this girl wanted to go about different detours before meeting up with her captain...? So be it.
“Ahh! Sorry to have kept you waiting, my dear captain,” the sadistic woman rejoiced. “A beautiful day is it not?”
Ignoring the swelling wound on her bicep, Aurelia smiled as if her day had just been made. She placed her hands on her hips and smiled in the captain’s direction. “Do you not like my new found jewelry?” she inquired and raised the tarantula’s fangs to her direct view.
“Lovely, aren’t they?”
Lifting her eyelids ever so slowly, her piercing blue gaze met the woman’s strange sense of trophy hunting. Pushing herself off of the wall, she averted her gaze to Aurelia for a bit and smiled somewhat hollowly. “To each their own,” she said relatively unimpressed and shrugged.
“I’d say you would fit in well with the Third were we still the Heralds of Death, but--” she shook her head softly as a chuckle escaped her. “--well, we’re not. Not that it really matters, though.
“Tell me,” she continued as she levelled her eyes with the new initiate’s, “what made you decide to join the Blitzkrieg Strike Unit, Ehime-san?”
No one has ever asked her this question, nor did she expect anything of this sort from the beautiful woman before her. Aurelia’s lips puckered as an index finger was placed upon her chin. Her crimson eyes ventured toward the ceiling. “Well to be quite honest, I’d... have to say... you would be my reasoning for joining!”
She went on to further explain herself, “I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I left my flash cards back in my room along with the raid and rat killer. So forgive me for being blunt. You see I’m the type of girl that adores beauty and I do enjoy a bit of fun and games. Lilith Maikeru, does have great looks but her division specs seemed a bit too," she fluttered her fingertips,m“agical and to be quite frank, did not quite fit my... talents.
“The rest are men and well... I’m not the best in dealing with many male superiors... That and they are not as easy on the eyes as females are in my opinion,” she concluded with a lustful watch.
“I’m flattered... I think?” To be honest, she wasn’t really sure what to make of this girl. She seemed upbeat enough to fit right in just about anywhere, but there was something else going on about this girl as well.
She couldn’t really put a finger on it yet, though.
“We’ll just have to see how you’ll fare in this division, I suppose. As long as you’re quick on your feet, I don’t really care what made you decide to join my division. Now,” she continued as she motioned for Aurelia to follow her, “you may be wondering why I’ve called you out here, instead of my office as is somewhat dull, standard-protocol for this type of meeting.
“Well, the reason for that would be...”
Suddenly an enormous thud resonated through the hallways. Over, and over again, increasing in ferocity and decibel with each waking second. More, louder, harder, angrier, and then... a massive roar permeated the corridor.
Levelling her eyes on the new initiate once more she shrugged and pointed a single finger towards the large, black metal doors.
“That.”
“It appears as though I may fail this task.
“You want me to clean these doors?” she jokingly inquired. “They are a bit dusty, aren’t they? However, I must confess I am a horrible janitor, my dear captain.”
She continued on as if she were having a serious conversation with the captain about cleaning the large metal doors, her face not cracking even the lightest grin. “I’m pretty good at making messes, but very, very, very terrible at cleaning. Seems you found my one true weakness.”
“Trust me,” Nana responded in a slight monotone as she moved closer to the massive gates. “You have far more weaknesses than just that.
“No, I need you to watch my back as I fortify the seal.”
Oh I’ll watch your back alright, the young silver maiden thought to herself, surveying the captain’s curvaceous figure.
Then, without warning, the majority of the captain’s reiatsu was released, causing the room to heat up to almost unbearable extremes. At first it was as if a nice warmth fell upon the young initiate, but then slowly but surely her throat began to dry up and her skin started to crack ever so slightly with every passing second.
“If by any chance the seal breaks, I need you to get out of here as soon as possible and notify Fia. She’ll know what to do, now--” Two handles appeared on the gates, one for each hand. “I hope they taught you how to endure extreme conditions.”
As her hands gripped tightly around the handles, she pushed them back into the doorframes, causing the entire hallway to tremble under the collective might of Nana’s reiatsu and that of whomever was on the other side of the gates.
Ugh! really? I was summoned all the way down here to be a surve...
“Ah!”her thoughts were interrupted by a loud thud followed with a tremendous roar echoed the area. Shards of rock and debris fell from the ceiling.
What the fuck’s behind this gate!? Aurelia thought to herself, turning her head just slightly away from the gates direction while Nana fought to fortify the doors. Well if it bleeds, this should be fun!
“Oh my, what energy this thing possesses!” An exciting, yet deranged expression befell her face at the thought of another bloody beast.
“Energy,” Nana huffed, “but not reiatsu.”
“AND WHOSE FAULT DO YOU THINK THAT IS!?” a bestial, almost indecipherable roar echoed through the halls as Nana turned the handles.
“Well, certainly not mine,” Nana rebuked as she pulled out the handles once more, pouring in more and more of her own spiritual energy into them.
“ASCANIA!!” the beast roared. “BRING HIM TO ME, LET ME FEAST ON HIS CORPSE!!”
Forcing the handles back into the door, the gate suddenly became a massive block of black coloured, bloodstone iron. Suddenly all of the noise permeating the hallway died down, save for the crisping sound of Nana’s burning reiatsu.
“I’m afraid Ascania-san is dead.” Turning her gaze to Aurelia sealed her reiatsu back up and held out her right hand. “I suppose having called you here was rather pointless after all, but I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Thank you, now if you’d be so kind as to take my hand... I’d like to get out of here.”
She threw a hand to her breast and released a slight chuckle. “Pointless?” she quizzically and playfully inquired. “Let’s not forget who summoned who.”
Just as Aurelia reminded the captain of whose idea it was to meet in a dark and mysterious cave on a first date, she gave the petite captain her hand.
“Now what?”
Before the words had fully left the woman’s mouth, the pair of shinigami found themselves in Nana’s office. Letting go of the silver-haired death god’s hand she walked around her desk and sat down on her chair.
“Now we finalize some things before I let you go,” she responded with a faint smile, “please take a seat.”
“Mmm,” she lustfully remarked, “Was this your idea of a first date? Entertainment followed by a delicious meal usually makes for a perfect first night out and about the Third Division.”
The silver woman took a seat, just as her captain ordered. “My, my, my our relationship is moving quite fast, don’t you think?” Her crimson eyes opened slowly in the captain’s direction.
Taking out a stash of paper work, Nana levelled her gaze upon the young initiate’s and let out a small sigh. “Hmm,” she mused absentmindedly as she flipped through some of Aurelia’s records. “That’s nice. Now, Ehime-san, what would you say is the zankensoki discipline you are most comfortable with?”
“That would be hakuda. I absolutely love being up close and personal with my opponent,” she whimsically added.
“What about maneuverability?” Nana posed apathetically as she ticked a few boxes next to the woman’s personal information. Not that it really served any decent purpose, or whatever. It was just so she could get a fair idea herself of what type of persons she had in her division.
“Getting up close and personal is great and all, but what about getting back out of there if it gets too... shall we say, hairy?”
The silver-haired maiden gave little thought before the words approached the tip of her tongue.
“I suppose,” she blandly added with a carefree expression.
Aurelia knew exactly what the captain had asked. What was unbeknownst to Nana was that she was a more aggressive and somewhat reckless fighter. One that would gladly take a hit to inflict more severe damage upon her opponent.
“I suppose?” Nana repeated the woman’s remark. “And what exactly is it that you suppose then? I know I’m pretty much just snowballing this meeting with you, but that isn’t to say I don’t need straight answers.
“Given your potential, it’d be a waste to let you rot away in some boring office for Izanagi knows how long. I will need something more concrete than that, Ehime-san.”
She would be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy playing bad cop, good cop with people.
“Huuu,” she sighed, placing her left elbow on the a“m of the wooden chair and her forehead rested in the same hand. Alright already.
“Yes, footwork is indeed important to me as well. Kidou... not so much. I don’t like wasting away my time on books of mumbo-jumbo.”
Chuckling lightheartedly at the woman’s response Nana simply shook her head. “That’s at least one thing we can agree on then, Ehime-san.”
Her eyes and tone became a bit more flirtatious. “Is that so?” she inquired with a faint smile.
“Yes,” Nana responded in a deadpan as she finished up whatever paperwork it was that she had decided to do while boring the new recruit with stuff she kind of already knew, but wanted to hear from the person in charge as well.
You know, to get to know her just that little bit better.
Probably.
“I don’t think there’s a whole lot of stuff I can pointlessly ask you about to keep you occupied longer - or here for that matter - so I think we can conclude this little skirmish of words. It’s great to have you on the team, Ehime-san.”
[FONTrial]She smiled softly with those last words, but dropped back to her usual demeanor not too long afterwards. She still had work to do after all.[/FONT]
“Uh... Uhnn...,” the new blood grunted in relief as she rose to her feet and stretched her arms as high as possible.
“Ahhhh...
“Tis great to be of service,” she concluded, leaving the captain’s office.
As Aurelia left her office she shook her head and chuckled lightheartedly. Her division just got a whole lot more interesting, that much was for sure.
I blame Sene for the Title
I really do.
