[4th/Captains] Week 191: Taishuu Practical: The Black Swan

Status
Not open for further replies.
She knew. She was very well aware of the fact that she was, perhaps, buying time right now, trying to come up with something. What struck her as saddening, however, was the fact that all Sayis apparently saw was ‘panic’ as he so nicely said, but that wasn’t exactly the case at all.

Well, it might’ve looked like it from an outsider’s perspective, but to her... this was just merely a way of either stalling time or just having fun. Because wasn’t that what this was supposed to be?

...

Of course not, but still...

Turning around, the young healer vice-captain put a hand on the convict’s chest and smiled.

“I was hoping we could have... well, scrape that...

“Raikouhou.”

[120/1771]

Ishin's hand moved with a speed that could only be obtained through an instinctive need to survive. It was a light tap that forced her hand up and just passed his shoulder, the kidou blast going off into the distance harmlessly behind him.

"Word of advice, next time you make a move on someone, don't do it so halfheartedly. Had you done everything in your power to make me believe that, i might have been hit just then. As it is, now you are the one that is open. Sorry, but i can't keep going easy on you."

With that, he brought his axe up and over his shoulder, into a downward slice that was aimed at her non-mechanical arm.

By the time Ishin had lifted his axe above his head, Kaede had already discarded her robes, revealing two sets of arms and crashed all four of her arms – two infused one of her new techniques, her shikai and one regular – into the convict’s head with eerie precision.

Extra arms infused with Div. Tech
.::Ikimi Kengeki::.
The Developers within the Kyuubantai Taisho shine with this technique. By literally crafting a desired limb of their own being to suit a purpose, the technological artisans weave a work of art upon themselves. Not for the faint of heart, those willing to sacrifice for a greater power may put their talents- and body- to use.

A certain limb/body part of choice is augmented and fused with biotechnology. The body part appears natural and still looks as if it is flesh and bone (thank the craftsmanship and biological know how of those at the Kyuubantai Taisho), but within houses durable Zanpakutou-strength alloys and mechanisms. Those pieces are powered by the Void; since part of that body is still living, it is still fully flexible and may be even more so depending on the modifications. The brave officer may choose one of three variations of this new limb:

.::Assault Type::.
The limb may transform into a Zanpakutou-strength weapon, whether it be a drill, a fist propelled by a retracting wire, a scythe to be plucked from an arm, or something within feasible limits. Used by those who prefer physical and melee combat, or an unexpected surprise in their repertoire. Reiatsu drain is 1% per round.

Only one variation may be chosen. Modifications can be changed weekly. An additional variation/mod may be added once the Officer reaches 4,000 Reiatsu. Maxes out at 2 modifications total. Must be approved by Captain.

Shikai-gauntlet punch @ 15% max rei.
Regular hand's punch with hak tech.
[ Kinkyuuhasshin ] - "Scrambling"
A more focused and devastating attack to the opponent's head, this ability leaves the target's mind scrambled for a round. This is only effective once every fourth round.

Imbuing 1,000 reiatsu into the strike, any special attacks, shunpo, or spells the target uses in the following round have their cost increased by 500. A quincy's ability to use their Shuuhaku is unaffected.

Requirements: 6,000 Hakuda

Though surprised that his vice captain was revealing herself so quickly, the nobleman knew the purpose for doing so being the only one that knew the reasoning for her increase in bust size. Time had been bidden long enough and the time for action was nigh. As the extra set of arms extricated themselves from the woman’s robes, Makoto blinked from sight. Utilizing Senka, the healer captain appeared at Ishin’s side in mid strike – a heavy kick aimed below the ribs –aimed at knocking the convict captain away from at least some of the incoming quartet of fists.

[98/913]

Senka
[ Senka ] - "Flash Blossom"
With their growing mastery of Shunpo, the user is now able to deliver a blindingly fast attack. In the middle of a flash-step, the practitioner may deliver a single melee attack to a target in their path. If the target can see the attack coming, they can defend against it normally; a target whose melee skill is twice as much as the attacker's will be able to defend reflexively.

This ability takes the place of two normal Shunpo uses and costs 500 reiatsu.

Requirements: 5,000 Hohou

The axe Ishin held interposed itself between Kaede's attack and Makoto. It ground to a stop, then with a little effort, he deflected it away.

"Did I say you were through with me yet?"

Ishin had slid along with the kick, his senses telling him at the last second to go limp so that the attack wouldn't break his ribs. They were still sore, but then again that was to be expected. Looking at the girl, he rubbed his side for a moment then messed with his hair. After a long pause, he sighed.

"Oh well. I guess the time for being playful is over. I would hate to admit it, but Theron has a point. This is no way for me to treat a hopeful. I have to give you my full respect and attention, it seems."

"Bankai."

An explosion of reiatsu swirled around the three of them, kicking up dust and debris. When it subsided, Ishin stood wrapped in a jet black armor holding his axe as it split in half. They were surrounded by his meteors, and the moon hung above them.

"Time to get serious Kaede. If you don't i don't promise you will stay in one piece."

[-Milady!-]

I’m on it.

As vast amounts of reiatsu pouring from Ishin started to leak her way, Kaede’s own energy started to pulse heavily as well, but instead of violently defying all logic, it began to form itself around Kaede.

“Ban Kai.”

And so the robot ascended in all its might and glory, immediately releasing a devastating all-ranged ray of death on all that were in its near vicinity.

[69/1914]

Ish
Okay, I've been keeping quite about this for a good time now - talking to others about it to vent my frustration - but I'm really not happy with how you omitted every single attack of mine with the slightest skill used. I know you're not a mechanics guy, but the way you've been avoiding basically everything I've thrown at you, as well as shrugging off a somewhat involuntarily combined hakuda attack from both Makoto and Kaede is just plain ridiculous.

I'm not going to ask you to change anything, I'm not that huge of a dick. Just know that I'm not happy with this.

Like a man breathing air after years of solitude, Theron took in an eager breath as the reiatsu of present and future captains flooded the scarred ground. Though he was already the most prominent of physical stature in the Gotei's leadership, the raw power thickening the air seemed to heighten his presence; his shadow casting just a bit longer in the bright sunlight. He said nothing, watching in silent appreciation as the material form of the prospective taichou's bankai ripped through the ground below her feet.

And a moment later, a tremendous blast of energy tore asunder rock and earth, ripping a gouge and spreading violent winds through all the observers. In that moment of flurried action, the Alabaster Lord's veils parted, revealing sapphire eyes radiating with the energy of the moment in the shadows of his subtly inhuman mask. "A soul bound to creation and understanding. This is . . . excellent."

[153/1058]

A clever smile appeared on the Soutaichou's face as he watched the transformation with interest. The heady rush from the weight of reiatsu bearing down on them had him excited -- though perhaps not as much as his veiled counterpart -- and he almost felt bad for what he was about to do.

Almost.

"Kusajishi Kaede," Sayis yelled out over the roar of the dual bankai. "The parameters of the situation have changed. Your goal is no longer to take down Katsuji Ishin. Your purpose now is to effect a successful retreat!

"Katsuji Ishin, if Kaede reaches the top of the gorge, you are to hit her with the full weight of your bankai! Matsumara Makoto, you are now to directly engage Kaede. Prevent her from reaching the top of the gorge!"

Grinning down at the combatants, he called down an explanation. "In a real-world engagement, the situation can change in an instant. As Captain of the Ninth, you will need to be able to think on your feet and radically change your plans just as quickly! Show me what you are capable of, Kusajishi Kaede."

[187/1078]

It was about time business started to pick up. Up until that point Makoto felt like little more than a spectator, one with really ‘great’ seats. Ishin had pretty much shrugged off everything launched at him and even took care of the strikes that were redirected towards the healer captain. But Makoto highly doubted that would be the case from here on out.

As the gargantuan summon rose in the air to deliver a devastating spray of energy, the nobleman leapt backwards to buy time. And with that split second his action bought him he whispered a hurried incantation. "Aggressive and agile, Bakudou number thirty-two, Tangent.” A brief flash of light formed a ethereal shield to absorb the impact of the indiscriminate rays that sought to raze the captain’s skin.

The instantaneous spell was effective for the most part, though a few of the beams managed to nick Makoto’s person once Tangent had begun to fade. In the brief respite after the attack had washed over the battlefield the clarion voice of their leader called out to the participants below.

"Keep Kaede in the gorge?” Makoto responded, more to himself than to anyone else. "Sure can do.

"Bankai,
Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu!”

At the completion of the nobleman’s command, the ever familiar brilliant white circle appeared at his feet and rapidly expanded outward. A latticework seemingly made up of beams of light then began constructing itself from those boundaries, eventually forming a massive dome over the three combatants. Makoto glared at his vice captain, honing in on the wavelength of her reiatsu and marked her for Mochikuzusu.

[266/1179]

Bankai
Zanpakutou - Bankai

Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu – "Final Sacred Flame Intervention”

Form:

Physically, nothing changes about Shinka Kainyuu’s form between shikai and bankai levels. It remains a set of black bracers that covers from Makoto’s hands up to about his elbow with curved blackened steel reinforcements on the backs of Makoto’s hands. The bracers still serve as a conduit to channel reiatsu into Makoto’s hands to allow him to form the surgical blades or claws. Upon the release of Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu, a glowing white circle forms around Makoto’s feet and begins to expand outward to a diameter of 50 yards. From the boundaries of this circle a dome is constructed from the ground up to a height of 25 yards made up of beams of reiatsu in a lattice-like formation.

Ability: Shizenchiyu || Mochikuzusu — "Spontaneous Healing || Self Degradation (lit. to ruin (degrade) oneself)”

The reiatsu emitted by Makoto during bankai contains powerful healing properties. It permeates the wounds of the injured and begins to repair physical damage and coerce out foreign reiatsu (similar to the actions of the Chiyudo current). The healing occurs gradually depending upon the severity of the injury. Minor cuts and abrasions will close over the course of a few minutes. Major injuries would be aided by these healing properties, but will still require direct healing efforts. For any fellow healers working within the walls of the dome, the cost for any Chiyudo is halved.

Through the bond forged between Makoto and Shinka Kainyuu, Makoto is able to exclude known enemy combatants from the healing effects of Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu at his discretion. Those excluded from Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu’s healing effects will be prey to an inverse effect. Known enemies will find the air within the dome to be thick and oppressive, almost as if the enclosed area was filled with a virulent toxic smog. Labored breathing begins almost immediately after the release of Makoto’s bankai. Because of Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu’s effects upon an opponent’s respiratory system they will expend an extra 50% cost for any action taken while under the dome’s effect.

Attack:
The dome itself may prevent the attack of those within from any outside forces at a cost of 5% to Makoto’s reiatsu stat. For this cost the dome can withstand up to an equal amount in damage (from the outside or within). For the cost of 2% to reiatsu Makoto can repair damaged portions of the dome.

Attack:
With the area within Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu’s dome saturated with Makoto’s reiatsu, the formation of certain kidou becomes effortless and enhanced. Being a cheap but versatile spell, Byakurai became one of Makoto’s favorite offensive kidou. In bankai, for the cost of 5% to reiatsu and the normal cost of the spell, Makoto may create a ball of kidou energy that will float in the air when released. At his command, the ball of energy will explode in a shower of 20 Byakurai beams that arch outward from the point of emission towards the opponent.

Attack:
As a last resort, Makoto can expend 25% of his reiatsu to break down the lattice-work of the dome in to individual beams. At his command, the multitude of beams will point inward, keying in on his opponent’s position, and rain down with the intention of skewering the unfortunate soul with the shards. Once this attack is used, Makoto’s bankai will end.

[-What’s this...?-]

Ugh, it’s not like I wasn’t expecting this anyway,
Kaede responded internally from within her not too comfy seat in her own personal robot.

Fuelling her massive beast with some of her own power – which was usually directed at her feet – she boosted her summon’s own ‘feet’ and soon the young prospect found herself towering above Makoto, Mu Teikei’s colossal fists ready to start pummelling on both the dome and Makoto as they started to come crashing down.

[80/1994]

The nobleman turned a glance toward the Soutaichou at the mention of the sudden change in objective. It was painfully obvious to him that the female candidate was no combat expert. Perhaps she'd excel at the new task assigned. Senesati had more faith in the woman with a retreat than he did of her combat prowess.

Without a single word, the dignified captain kept close watch.

[66/731]

A laugh rolled out of Ishin's mouth, as his attention turned momentarily to Sayis.

"Now now, that's not very fair Sayis. Just when we were starting to have fun..."

Just then, the beam attack came and Ishin had to interpose his meteors between him and it to keep from being blasted to bits. At that moment, though, Ishin started to cough and cringe. He grabbed his side where Makoto had kicked him and turned his back to the others. He muttered under his breath then turned back.

"Sorry, momentary distraction. Now then, the best way to keep you from the cliff is..... Ah. That's a good one. Event Horizon!"

A gravitic anomaly opened up behind Kaede, pulling her, and be extension her robot, down so that she could not stomp on the dome of Makoto's bankai.

"There ya go. Your turn Makoto!"

As Kaede and her conveyance rose into the air, Makoto began to channel disruptive energy to his right palm, readying to unleash Reiteki Atemi when the opportunity presented itself. He was ready to take evasive action at just the right moment, but before that moment came something peculiar happened.

One moment the giant fists of the robot were crashing down towards him, the next the entirety of the summon lurched backwards and its strikes were pulled off course. Makoto launched himself forward, utilizing senka once again, to allow the fists to crash to the rocky soil just behind him. He exited the offensive shunpo with an open palmed strike at the robot’s right knee joint, aiming to further reduce the construct ‘s ability to exit the influence of Ishin’s gravity sink.

[131/1310]

Reiteki Atemi
[Reiteki Atemi] – "Spiritual Strike”

With time, healers of the Fourth Division will have honed their understanding of the flow and control of reiatsu to such an extent that a whole new avenue of offensive ability becomes available for their utilization. Using this knowledge and precise reiatsu manipulation, an experienced healer can be molded into a dangerous force in close combat situations. A healer trained to use Reiteki Atemi is able to infuse their palms with "disruptive” energy that can cause not only physical damage, but disrupt the flow of reiatsu through the body.

By expending 5% reiatsu (once per round) a healer can activate Reiteki Atemi, either distributed to both palms or to one particular, to deliver a blow to an opponent that can cause numbness and/or a decrease in functionality of a limb (especially in the case of an attack upon a joint). Along with the physical aspects a blow from Reiteki Atemi are spiritual effects. With the introduction of foreign reiatsu, the ability of the opponent to use reiatsu based techniques is hindered, increasing their cost by half the cost of Reiteki Atemi. To clarify, strikes landed to the upper body/arms/shoulders/joints would be more likely to hinder the use of kidou spells since most are channeled through the arms/hands. The same can be said of physical abilities that draw on reiatsu use. Strikes landed to the lower body would hinder the use of shunpo as reiatsu must be expended to utilized such an ability.

This technique may be used two times, gaining another use with every 4000 reiatsu, capping at six. The cost increase lasts for two turns after every strike, but the functionality decrease may persist longer. The cost increase can be staked if multiple uses of the technique are used.

As the gravitational force from Ishin’s bankai, and the rather powerful blow from Makoto’s kick started to work on Mu Teikei, the grotesque being simply unleashed a massive reiatsu disrupting blast, turned around and began working its way towards the convict captain, all the while charging up another death ray.

Kaede, however, was nowhere to be seen.

That is, until she appeared right next to her captain, having used her newly attained Genkakuido to escape unnoticed, her arms pointed towards him. “The power to halt the strongest warrior, sing. Bakudou Ninety-nine, Kin.

“First song: Halting Fabric.”

At the same time the giant earth-shattering summon released its death ray while the young captain-hopeful blended into her surroundings once again, moving towards the top of the grove.

[125/2119]

Okay, guys, Kaede is almost out of reiatsu - though, so far she's managed to stay unharmed - but I'm thinking we can finish this in one, maybe two more turns.

Oh and please don't pull a 'I can see you,' on my technique again, that's just... short of impossible. D:

A deadpan expression was the last thing seen from the nobleman’s visage before the thick and powerful sheets of spiritual threads covered it and very quickly the rest of his form. It wasn’t that Makoto was upset at Kaede for binding him with Kin, in fact he wasn’t upset with her at all; she was merely trying to do what was set out for her to do.

His frustration was a bit more mundane than that.

If one were close enough to the mummified healer captain they would have heard a muffled voice saying: "Fuck, I’m never going to hear the end of this.”

What was he so concerned about in the heat of battle that would make him utter such a phrase? I’m gonna have to destroy the custom haori Shizuru had made for me. She’s gonna bitch for the rest of my life about it, the healer thought as he began funneling massive amounts of kidou energy into his back and shoulders.

The durable wrappings bulged with stress as the full might of Kyuuzou Maou flared to life from within. The initiation of Shunko by itself was not enough to free Makoto, but there was something he could do that would be effective for doing just that. The healer captain felt for the wavelength of the mighty bakudou and grasped it in next to no time. He then began to channel the destructive force equally to each of his limbs and immediately pushed outward.

With a feral roar, the cocoon-like casing that bound the nobleman exploded outward, at last torn asunder by Hanki. Makoto stumbled a bit as the explosion had created a small crater at his feet. All around him the tattered remains of the sheets of spiritons and of the garments that covered his upper body floated down like large, charred snowflakes.

After regaining his footing, Makoto took a few heaving breaths before attempting to head after his quarry. Just as Kaede had expended a huge amount of energy casting Kin, so had he done to break free of it. Considering the effects of his bankai on the field of play, he was sure that she was practically running on ‘E’ after such a stunt. One way or another, the test would be over soon enough.

[380/1690]

Kyuuzou Maou + Hanki = 12000 Kidou ;_;

So he had escaped, as expected of her captain. But still... it was quite frustrating that even her most brilliant bakudou was basically nothing but a means of hindering her adversary like that.

“In furor my enemy cries!” Kaede began, still moving towards the top of the grove, slightly tilting her head so that it was looking back at Makoto, “May the earth god accelerate his ruin and bring me victory, Hadou thirty-eight, Daishou!”

As the black arrow appeared under her captain, its point facing her massive ban kai, and in turn Ishin, Kaede disappeared in a brilliant burst of shunpo as she made way for steep ledge that was to be her exit.

[114/2233]

Even though Kaede is basically almost out of kidou - it's about 4.5k thresh - I can still do Daishou all day, haha.

The motion hidden beneath the thick folds of his cloak, the captain of the Third flexed his left hand, grasping at nothing in particular. It was a memory: the echo of a feeling from the recent past. Theron too had felt the undeniable pain of being marked an enemy by Kyuukyoku Shinka Kainyuu. Like a pipe with too much pressure, one's body rumbled, shook, and warped under the pain of expending too much reiatsu, and the prospective captain had just used one of the strongest incantations known to any shinigami.

I was at least able to feed on his reiatsu and that of the others watching to recoup some of that pain and lost power. She, so far as I can tell, has no such option. Still, her Bankai . . . Exhaling a soft sigh, the Alabaster Lord shifted his stance, clasping one hand behind his back as aftermath of the tremendous struggle below buffeted against the observers. The other would join its perched brother, but first made the peculiar motion of swiping over the painite skull on his waist. Balling into a fist, it then swept back and linked fingers with the other hand.

"My decision is made. You are a cruel tester, Soutaichou, for which you should be proud." The words came in an even baritone, no hint of what his choice may have been to be teased out.

[233/1291]

Sorry, out of town. first chance to post since thursday...

Ishin had to think fast. Makoto was flying towards him like a bullet, and if he didn't do something, they would hit with a bone jarring impact. In an instant, he changed the direction gravity was pulling on Makoto so that he stopped falling towards him. Then, seeing Kaede pop up near the rim of the crater, he sighed.

"Sorry, but you heard Sayis. I have to use everything I have. Makoto, you might wanna watch out."

Ishin reached up to his neck and pulled on his collar. As if unlatching an unseen chain, he suddenly exploded with reiatsu. Focusing it into his axes, he reached up with them and pointed to his moon. All gathered saw it shift, then saw it start to fall. Ishin seemed to be dragging it down to earth, its course centered on Kaede.

"You all might want to be careful on the ledge up there as well. Just a heads up."

And so it had come to this after all. There wasn’t exactly much left for her to do, really. She had incanted one of the most powerful kidou spells at a hundred and fifty percent of the original cost, had brought forth a beast of sheer badassery to do battle upon her adversaries, made fun of a senior captain, tried to do a hide and hit on that very same person and launched a shitload of attacks which were basically all deflected one way or the other.

Worst thing was, however, that there was really no way for her to deflect the incoming moon. Because, even though it was still only about the size of a house, she was simply running out of reiatsu to use.

So all she had left to do was... sacrifice that which had lasted her throughout her trials thus far. Her very own zanpakutou.

As if on cue with her thoughts, Mu Teikei came crashing towards its master, positioned itself for direct impact and waited for the inevitable to happen.

And happen it did. The impact of the moon on the summon’s massive body seemed like a picture of Atlas shouldering the world, but unlike its picturesque counterpart, Mu Teikei began to disintegrate almost as soon as the moon impacted.

With the last of its strength, before disappearing completely, Mu Teikei shifted the moon’s trajectory ever so slightly as it continued to crash down to earth.

As soon as the moon grounded, Kaede found herself violently blown away by the sheer wind force, tossing her furiously against the edge of the gorge. Using the very last of her strength, the young captain hopeful managed to pull herself up onto the ledge where she laid face-up, arms spread and heavy panting.

Her entire body was bruised, the left side of her face was bleeding heavily and three of her arms were broken as well as having several cracked ribs as, out of the blue, her trustworthy Käsi came towards her and began to apply one final high mend before it, too, ran out of fuel.

[349/2582]

Also, if it wasn't clear to you guys yet, this is my final combat/fight turn as Kaede has zero reiatsu and no kidou threshold left.

Damn my slow writing >_>
*hijacks post*

Makoto felt himself jerk off the course set by Daishou, his body compelled to the left by Ishin’s mastery of gravity. Using the convict captain’s interference, the nobleman twisted his body, trying to reorient himself in mid air to lessen his impact on the rocky soil below. Just before he made contact with the surface, a golden set of ethereal claws burst forth from the healer’s fingers.

He landed with a wealth of momentum, contacting the ground with his feet and the claws of Shinka Kainyuu he slid for several yards until friction did its job. The captain straightened himself, his clawed fingers aching from the stress of affecting his stop. His knees bled freely under the tattered fabric of the legs of his hakama from the same. To top it all off, the moon was falling… again.

Once again Ishin was using a sledgehammer to swat a fly. Even though Makoto was not the fly this time around, he still was within the swatting zone. “Here we go again!” Makoto cried as he scrambled to safer ground.

Within moments it was all over. From an untouched vantage point, the healer witnessed the end of his protégé’s summon. With a shake of his head, his bankai ended as well. There was no need to continue ravaging her body with its ill effects, the battle was over. With some effort, Makoto pushed his fatigued form forward, leaping from ledge to ledge to bring himself to his vice captain’s side.

He knelt down and spoke to her: “Welcome to the ‘I got the moon thrown at me’ club.”
