“Ah the pleasantly annoying ass winter breeze. The near freezing temperatures and the death traps known as icy roads wherever you go. And you just gotta love the never ending sheets of snow that raises so high up to the point where it almost entirely restricts your ability to walk. Isn’t winter just the most enjoyable fucking season ever?” Reshin complained to himself as he found himself unable to head outdoors to train because of the weather.

Recently it had been snowing continually within the world of spirits and due to this a lot of the normal daily routine had to be altered to make it so that progress was not entirely slown. In the midst of all that Reshin found himself bored out of his mind with nothing else to do but eat, shit, and sleep. But little did he know that soon his boredom would be relieved, but would that actually turn out to be a good thing?

For this and more of Reshin’s personally biased news about the winter season stay tuned and find out!

With a creaking sound that echoed throughout the nearly empty building, a door was opened. Reshin’s eyes would’ve raised to catch a glimpse of a pair of bare feet, pale due to the cold weather outside. As his eyes would’ve ascended up the form of the being who opened the door, they would’ve seen the odd uniform of a hakama skirt, a halter top kosode and a golden-ebony zanpakutou strapped to her left hip. The youngest sister out of the Tegishahara family stood in the doorframe, her hands to her side.

“Did you know it’s cold out there?” she proposed the rhetorical question to her comrade, moving forward a few steps before raising her left foot, pressing it to the door and closing it in a simple movement. “It’s cold in here too, but it’s at least not snowing.”

Even though these two were from the same division they rarely crossed each other’s paths, but ever since the mission they went on together they had been spending quite a bit of time with each other. Avoiding eye contact as he spoke Reshin responded to Nevada’s humorous quip.

“Well I suppose that’s true, but I really wish that it were spring already. As you can clearly see I despise the winter with every fiber in my being,” Reshin said in a way that most people would’ve thought strange for someone like him. Although to Nevada his way of projecting his true disgust with his semi-baritone voice probably would’ve gone unnoticed.

Nevada shrugged her shoulders, placing her hand on her hip casually. “Winter’s not that bad. I’m walking around,” she gestured to her outfit and the daily lack of any shoes or socks, “like this. It can’t be all that bad, is it?”

She moved closer, taking rest on a nearby chair, turning it to face Reshin.

“For you probably not, but I just don’t like it because its just so dreary and depressing. And not only that, but how the hell am I gonna be able to do anything related to training in a damn blizzard,” he said as he looked up at her with his red eyes meeting her own green eyes.

The young spellswordstress once again shrugged her shoulders. Maybe the idea of depression and dark days didn’t seem appealing to her, unless the time demanded it. Winter sure as hell didn’t require her to be all upset, mopey or even downright depressed like her sourpuss of a friend. Lifting her legs up to her chest, casually pulling her skirt to cover any unmentionables, the woman stared at her crimson-eyed friend.

“Well,” she began to hum her answer in a soft tone, completely opposite of the harsh winter breeze outside that managed to even sneak into the building through the smallest of cracked windows or openings in the doorway. “Why not try to do something fun? You could always rush off to Earth. I heard its not as cold in some places. Why not try Florida and soak up some beach time?”

Reshin thought the idea over for a moment. Maybe a trip to the world of the living was exactly what he needed to get back his fading sanity in this seemingly desolate place. Standing up he nodded as he turned to face Nevada again before giving his answer to her suggestion.

“Actually that sounds like a great idea. Although I don’t have the clearance on that unless you somehow have the means to make the trip already in place?” Reshin questioned rhetorically figuring she probably did knowing her.

Nevada grinned, raising her hand in an excited manner. “I’m close friends with Udo. I can ask him if he can get us clearance to Earth. A Senkaimon user can take us there if he can’t too.”

The young spellswordstress put her hand back onto her knee, drumming her fingers lightly. “We do need to get properly dressed Gigais if we’re going to somewhere warm and sandy. Last I remember, mine looks like a fluffy doll because I went to a cold place. Hm.” She placed a hand on the back of her neck, looking at her friend across from her. “So it’s decided! Beach time? Beach time!”

For what seemed like mere seconds time flew by as the pair quickly got ready before heading out to find the nearest Senkaimon user. However in this weather it was pretty difficult to find any because there were only two currently on duty at the Northern gate where the public Senkaimon was kept open for those with proper permission to pass.

“This might be an issue,” Reshin said as he took note of the two who stood guard. They still didn’t have the clearance from anyone, but they could be granted permission by the Senkaimon users themselves as Nevada stated earlier, but the problem was would they be given authorization for something so unproductive?

They could always lie and say its for something else, but time in the Seventh was probably not worth the effort. Or the possible anal rape...

“So what do you suppose we do now Nevada?” Reshin asked as he continued to make mental notes of possible outcomes to their situation.

As they neared the public Senkaimon, Nevada pulled a small pink cellphone from her pocket, dialing one simple number and waiting for the other person on the line to pick up. Elsewhere, the phone of Udo Tabawara was going off vehemently, demanding to be answered.

Nevada waited until the phone was answered, hearing his voice reply to the annoying ringtone that he set as Nevada’s. Fitting, however. “Yes?”

“Can we go to Earth?”

“Why?”

Nevada let a visible pout form and the expression was so well-made that it could even be heard in her voice. “Well, it’s... it’s... it’s cooold!”

She heard his laughter on the other end, possibly from how ‘adorable’ the voice was. He decided not to question the statement, knowing full well she rarely felt ‘cold’ and asked to be put on speaker. When she put the officer on speaker, he spoke to the two operating the Senkaimon. Something about letting the two go on vacation and that they would be back by the end of the day or they’d be reprimanded by the Sixth Seat himself. Nevada could only giggle at the statement. She’d wiggle her way out of a stern talking, but Reshin was a different story.

Handing the phone back to Nevada, she whispered something into the phone before hanging up with a grin on her face. The Japanese-style doors opened slowly, the familiar chime of the bells echoing into the winter atmosphere. Nevada turned her head to face Reshin, grabbing the small pill dispenser that the Senkaimon operators handed her and Reshin. “Beach time?”

“Well that went over pretty well,” Reshin responded as he received his pill dispenser just in case they would have to leave their gigais for whatever reason. “Lets go,” he said excitedly as he practically flash stepped right into the Senkaimon.

And in literally no time at all the two suddenly found themselves in the back alley of a large city with towering buildings, and a massive sea of people scrambling to get wherever they needed to go. But those weren’t the features that really caught Reshin’s attention because, as you guessed it, the first thing he noticed was that it was considerably warmer here than in Seireitei.

Immediately he entered his gigai testing out how it felt before continuing on. Once he knew it was a perfect fit the two then went out to explore their new surroundings.

Nevada felt her toes dig into the sand that climbed all the way into the nearby area, which came as a bit of a shock to her. The beach was huge, having went on for hundreds of miles possibly. Or a few. Who knew. She wasn’t going to count or even ask. Nor was she going to ask how many people the beach had running about, sunbathing or swimming.

She stripped herself of her gigai’s clothing, shedding the layers of Winter clothing. However, this also left her in just a bra and panties. The young blonde improvised quickly, wrapping one of her thinner shirts around her waist, tightening the sleeves to make a very quick and sloppy skirt. She began to set foot on the sandy beach, calling out to Reshin. “C’mon!”

Reshin was very ill prepared for what his eyes had seen in that exact moment and how his body was comprehending it. For a moment his inner fiend had awakened screaming ‘LETS FUCK’ while he on the outside was just frozen in place blushing like a bouquet of roses.

He did not expect this trip to involve boobies, booty, and skimpy clothing as part of the package deal, but his body sure appreciated this. A streak of red stained his cheeks as he watched Nevada undress.

Trying to hide his embarrassment he faced away from her as he stripped down to his swimming trunks revealing a male that could’ve very well been mistaken for a middleweight kickboxer for his physique.

“I’m coming i’m coming!” he shouted back frantically as he tried to follow her without exposing the product of his moment of lewd thinking.

The young Tegishahara was halfway down the beach, managing to not knock people over as they carried on with their beach activities. When her feet touched the water, however, she dove straight in. Her body disappeared as a wave crashed along the sands, the presence of the spellswordstress disappearing with the cold Reshin and Nevada once felt. After a brief moment, her head surfaced a few meters away from where she dived, her hands breaching the surface to wave at Reshin.

“Come on in, the water’s pretty nice, Reshin!” she called out, waving towards her for her friend to come in.

So this was what it meant to have fun with others. Seemed pretty nice in Reshin’s eyes which managed to tempt him into joining Nevada. Diving in after her he was completely submerged for a moment before appearing next to Nevada with somewhat of a childish grin on his face. Believe it or not it was actually the first time he ever went swimming with someone else.

And for a while he was savoring the moment as he would treasure it forever. In the meantime he was enjoying himself quite a bit until he spotted someone familiar out in the distance although he couldn’t entirely make out the figure from where he was, but it was definitely female.

“Hey Nevada who do you suppose that is over there,” he asked pointing in the same direction where he saw this person.

Raising her head from underneath the salty waters of the ocean, the blonde woman shook her locks from her hair and wiped the water from her eyes. She looked onto the horizon where the figure Reshin was speaking of resided. She squinted her eyes in an attempt - a dumb one but one nonetheless - to see better, only making out the silhouette.

“I’m not sure. Why does it matter?” she asked curiously, backstroking as a wave rolled past the two shinigami. “I’m happy just enjoying this! It’s such a nice break from work.”

“But I swear I could’ve saw Ren just now,” he mumbled to himself as he thought.

Maybe he didn’t really see her, but someone who looked like her. Problem was he didn’t know anyone with such a striking resemblance to her other than Nevada so there was no way it could’ve been anyone else. But for now he would just wait to see what would happen with this.

“Ren’s too busy to come with us, let alone stalk us. She’d be a good stalker though.” The young Tegishahara dived underneath the cerulean waves only to resurface moments later. She threw her golden locks over her shoulder, a happy smile on her face. She slowly floated to Reshin’s side, looking to the horizon where he once saw the figure. No silhouette was visible, no trace of some stalker person. Just beach.

“Maybe you’re seeing things.”

For the moment he just took her word for it figuring that maybe he was just seeing things. Yet the more he thought about it the more he couldn’t help but get that weird feeling that what he might’ve saw may have indeed been correct after all. If this was indeed the case than would it mean that Ren was here as well, or was Reshin just overthinking things.

“Well what was she busy with exactly? Last I remember she had opted to go on another mission, but hadn’t been assigned to do so when I last checked,” he said as he remembered Ren’s mood after their mission was complete. Maybe she was here for that?

Nevada shrugged initially, doing another backstroke casually before the next wave carried her back to Reshin. “I’m not sure really. Why? She’d have little to no reason to be here if this was the location of a mission. She’d tell me and we would’ve chosen somewhere else.”

“Really now.....” he said as he began to stare off into space. This whole thing was starting to confuse him now and he didn’t really like being in the dark about these type of things. So naturally he decided that he would bide his time and maybe show Nevada what he meant later.

“Really.”

There was a loud cough as the young blonde swallowed a substantial amount of seawater, the salty liquid stinging her mouth as she kept her head above the waves. She rubbed her eyes to dry them, but it only seemed futile in the end considering the water surrounding them. That and her hands were soaked in the same saltwater and proceeded to sting her eyes even more when she rubbed.

As she opened her eyes, the vague being Reshin mentioned earlier was watching them, appearing even closer. There were a few features she could pick out, but none too special. Like Reshin stated, the figure looked similar to Ren, save for a few different colours and a slight height issue. While Ren was taller, this woman was the height of Nevada, give or take an inch or two.

The being disappeared as a deep howl echoed in the distance, her feet carrying her away from the beach. The ground shook once, but no one paid mind to it. It was barely noticeable anyhow. “If that’s who you’re talking about, they’re creepy as fuck.”

Upon hearing the howl he began to have a very bad feeling about what might’ve been happening. Without another word he rapidly swam his way back onto the beach entirely focused on getting down to the bottom of things as soon as possible. If his suspicions were correct then there may be danger lurking. And if such was the case it would mean the end up the pair’s one day get away in the human world.

Following in the direction in which the female figure he saw walked off he made his way to the back of a deep alley way. Once here his suspicions were realized as right in front of him stood the soul of a dead girl, and even worse the faint but present energy of a hollow was slowly closing in.

When Reshin fled the beach, Nevada let out a weary sigh. Not only was he asking so many questions when they were supposed to be enjoying a break from the Gotei and the Winter, but now he was ditching her for some other girl they didn’t know. It’s a good thing she didn’t like him or anything. Stupid senpai.

Swimming back to the shore, the young spellswordstress wrapped a towel - totally not stolen from other people - around her waist and followed the Soul Reaper that ran off. She made sure to keep note on where her Soul Candy was. There were no pockets on her person, but she had her ways. And a bra on. Solutions everywhere.

“Reshin, what are you doing chasing someon-”

She stopped at the alleyway to watch Reshin standing before a deceased soul, her auburn eyes wide in shock. “The monster’s coming for me again...”

Without hesitation Reshin released himself from his gigai by slipping a soul candy into it. Rising up the mod soul immediately understood what it was meant to do as it returned to the beach in the most natural way possible. Turning his attention to the deceased soul in front of him he held out his hand to her to try and comfort her.

“And that’s why we’re here to help you,” he said with a more or less forced smile. It was actually the first time he had to deal with a deceased soul other than those that he saw in Rukongai. It made him feel a little awkward, but remembering the shinigami who helped him out he figured the least he could do was help her out too.

The roar came once again, tearing through the warm air and sending shivers down Nevada’s spine. A hollow, once again. Was it the koi like before? Maybe it was something worse, something Ren would have to help with. Oh God, she hoped it didn’t come to that.

The spellswordstress pulled her soul candy dispenser out from her secret hiding spot, popping the soul candy into her mouth. Her body was expelled from her gigai, placing her back into her shihakushou and normal appearance. If a Death God had a ‘normal’ appearance. With a flourish of her zanpakutou, she brought the butt of the handle onto the soul’s forehead. Auburn eyes stared up at Nevada as she slowly waved goodbye to the soul. “We’ll see you soon.”

The next noise to be heard was a deafening howl, shaking the ground beneath the two unseated members. To the humans on the beach, it was barely there, just a simple tremor. Rare in the area, but nothing they would’ve needed to worry about. But should they have gotten caught in the future rampage... oh God.

“Reshin, it’s here.”

“Yeah I know that,” Reshin complained. He was already pissed at the fact that a random showing of a hollow had ruined his vacation. Oh how he wished to destroy it for that fact alone, but not only that he still harbored a deep hatred for these creatures for what they do to other souls.

Gripping his sword he unveiled the blade in one swift motion and instantly assumed a defensive stance. Hopefully the hollow was something that was relatively the same size or larger so that in this closed in space it would be easier to deal with.

“Nevada the hollow doesn’t feel all that strong so this shouldn’t take long. The quicker we take this thing down the faster we can get back to swimming,” Reshin exclaimed trying to encourage Nevada in case she lost her will like before.

The loud stomp following Reshin’s assumption of the hollow’s strength was accompanied by the nearest building shaking to its foundation. The horrid noises coming from it and the apparent strength it had that shook Nevada to her core were all shattered by its appearance.

When the hollow came from the alleyway, it was nothing but the size of a simple wolf. Its fur was a matte black and stuck to its skin like scales, but shivered slightly when it noticed the reiatsu of the two shinigami. From its white bone mask came a bloodcurdling howl that signified one thing.

The hunt.

Without any preparation, it sent a crimson Cero towards the two, aiming to begin its feast on the two souls and any nearby. Nevada shook as she watched the Cero, a familiar adversary, fly towards her, standing in place. She didn’t move, she didn’t cry out, nothing. Nothing but the figurative deer in the headlights.

That damned red light. That same red light that threatened to destroy him and Ren when they fought the dreaded Bink. That same red light that was the end of so many shinigami before them. The same red light that left death and destruction in its wake. Cero.

Realizing his words had no effect Reshin sprung into action by grabbing Nevada and leaping above the lethal blast as he kicked from one wall to the next until they were on top of the roof.
Once there he sat Nevada down on the ground before leaping back down to meet the hollow again. Obviously she wasn’t gonna be of any help to him in her condition.

Luckily from the way it was acting it was him that the wolf seemed to be after. It would only make sense since his reiatsu was considerably larger than his comrade’s and the hollow was apparently thinking the stronger the reiatsu signature the tastier the morsal.

Nevada brought her knees to her chest after being carried to safety, watching Reshin begin to face the hollow. Why did the thought of perishing frighten her so badly? Was it the fact that it was a second death - a true death? Maybe it was the fact that if she died, she’d be unable to fulfill her promise to the Rat Pack. Whatever it was, it was there.

The hollow stared down Reshin through black and gold eyes, his paws patting at the ground before it charged at Reshin teeth bared wildly. Its loud howl pierced the air just as it neared Reshin, toothy maw closing as crimson blood was spilt onto the pavement.

Reshin’s arm seethed with pain as the jaws of the wolf like hollow clamped down on his right arm. This hollow was definitely faster than he was, but in a location as cramped as this it could serve as a disadvantage. Forcing himself to deal with the pain he then took his arm with the wolf still attached to it and slammed it against the wall as he took his other arm and drove his sword through its mask.

Not too long after its spiritual pressure would disappear along with its body leaving Reshin on his own in the damp alleyway as his arm gushed out blood. It wasn’t the first time he had suffered severe wounds like these as he experienced a variety of injuries over the years, and the results of them still showed on his body.

“Nevada!” he called out. “Its all good on my end so no need to worry about it anymore,” he said as he tore some cloth from his shihakushou and wrapped it around his injured arm.

The young Tegishahara shuddered as she watched the hollow tear into Reshin’s arm, spilling crimson onto the alleyway. The walls were stained with his blood, painting a grotesque mural. Nevada hopped down to the man, quickly holding out her cell phone to dial the number to the Fourth Division. “Reshin!”

“Are you sure you’re going to be okay?” she asked, frowning as she analyzed his wound.

He could tell by the tone of her voice that she was extremely worried about his condition although it personally didn’t concern him much as he had experienced worse. To him it wasn’t really anything to worry about, but for her it seemed to be everything.

“Yeah I’m perfectly fine. Please don’t concern yourself with this too much because I’ve been through a lot of situations where I got shredded up a little bit. It just happens sometimes when you’re engaged in combat,” he stated trying to make her feel less upset about it by playing the injury off.

She continued to look at the large bite wound, placing her hand gently on the wound and letting golden reiatsu pour from her hands. Reiki began to work slowly to at least offer a temporary solution until the Fourth arrived. However, once the moments of waiting passed, the Senkaimon opened to show Ren first, then behind her, two other shinigami from the Fourth.

The first of the duo of Fourth members began to check Reshin’s wound out, applying Mend to the wound. Slowly, the wound burned with the healing sensation of Chiyudou. Ren personally analyzed her sister, making sure the younger Tegishahara was perfectly fine. Afterwards, the second medic began to report to Lucia, stating that the situation was under control. Ren turned to Reshin, noticing the damage around the area. A Cero tore through the asphalt, leaving a deep trench and a building was slightly torn from the claws of the hollow.

“What happened?”

“Well to make a long story short we came to Earth to get away from the cold, and in the middle of our fun we were so rudely interrupted by a hollow trailing a deceased soul. In the middle of this Nevada and I had to take care of it,” he stated purposely leaving out the part about Nevada freezing up again.

He figured it would be better if he left that part alone seeing as it was something that if Ren knew about it would really disappoint her, but at the same time he didn’t know how it would affect Nevada on the other side of things so he casually added in the last part which by technicality was true.

“And that’s when my arm became like this and until you guys came she kept me from bleeding out,” he mentioned with a little more of an upbeat attitude. At least she could be accredited to that, and if it weren’t for her he probably would’ve just ended up damaging his arm further like in the past.

Nevada whimpered quietly as she watched Ren speak to Reshin, knowing her protectiveness of her younger sibling. If she was wounded in any way, Ren would’ve written an angry letter with a choice few words in it. Then stapled it to his forehead.

“Thank you for protecting her. And for dealing with the threat as well. Lucia-sama wanted me to come when they received word from another shinigami that there were wounded and possible hollows. Didn’t expect the two of you.” The vampire held Nevada to her side as they walked through the Japanese-style doors of the Senkaimon, with Reshin following behind with the help of a fellow Fourth member. Behind them, the soft chime of bells echoed to silence the warm breeze from Florida and introduce the harsh cold breeze of the Gotei’s grounds.

“You need to stay in the Fourth for a little while, just to make sure that bite isn’t infected or anything. Nevada-chan, if you’d be so kind to,” she spoke with a grin, knowing she’d hear an annoyed groan soon after, “write a report~”

“But that’s so boring!” Nevada followed her sisters expectations, letting out a groan of annoyance, pouting. “It’s better to do that than make poor Reshin-san do it. He needs to recover from protecting your butt.”

“Fine...” Nevada reluctantly agreed to write the report of the previous events that transpired. She walked over to the wounded Reshin, hugging his waist gently, smiling. “Thank you. Get better soon and maybe next time we can go on a trip that won’t get cut short.”

With those words spoken, she began to walk back to the Eighth Division’s barracks to write the mentioned reports. Ren was left with the two medics and Reshin, only lightly bowing her head respectively to the Eighth member. “Thank you for protecting her.”

With a flash step, both medic and Mystic disappeared to go to their respective divisions and fulfill their duties.
