Birds sang high in the trees and a sweet scent was floating softly on the air, as a lone figure approached the eighth barracks walking slowly on the short path; he was beaten and bruised, and walked with a limp. The young soul was leaning on crutches heavily, and walked with an obvious limp. If one looked closely they would be able to make out small, but dark burns and bruises on his arms and face. Ugh, everything still hurts, but the medics did the best they could so I suppose I should be grateful the young mage thought.

The shinigami walking down the path was Miyazaki Hikaru, returning home from three weeks in the fourth, as per result his fight with the Mystic captain, Pierce Adelaide. In said fight, the mage had been pushed almost to the brink of death by the fearsome captain, and feared he had lost the only friend he had made in the entire time he had been here. and on top of that he feared he had earned pity from the rest of Seireitei, one of the few things he hated. “Well I can’t change the fact that what happened happened, but I can use this to make changes for the future.”

Standing in front of the gate of the eighth division barracks, Reshin was composing himself as he was now ready to enter and meet his future. Sticking his hand out he began to push the gate, but what was this? The freakin’ gate was locked! Well that was just perfect. Came all that way and went through all of that stress just for the gate to be locked.

At the moment he was feeling quite a bit ticked off, but there was really nothing he could do. All he would be able to do now was wait until someone had unlocked the gate. Only problem was when that would be? Deciding that he now had some time to spare, Reshin began to wander around. Until an interesting spectacle caught his eye.

In the distance was yet another shinigami who just so coincidentally happened to be traveling in the direction of the barracks. Was he a fellow member of the eighth like Reshin? only one way to find out. Reshin began walking directly toward the shinigami noting the injuries he seemed to have as he came closer until they were about a good six feet apart from each other.

Hikaru felt a shadow cross over his stooped and looked up, another shinigami stood before him looking a bit peeved as he stared up at him. The slightly shorter shinigami rose to his full height and looked the other swordmage in the eye. “Who are you? Are you eight division?” Hikaru asked

“And if you are, why are you waiting here outside the gates still? It’s after hours you should be indoors.” I wonder, who is this guy? I’ve certainly never seen him before. Maybe he’s new like me? the mage wondered, crickets were singing and he could smell the fresh rain fall and see it’s remnants on the foliage. He feared it would rain, and hoped he would be indoors by that time.

“Indeed I am now a member of the eighth division. As for your question to why I’m outside is because the gates are locked so I’m stuck out here,” Reshin answered solemnly.

Taking a second look at the smaller shinigami in front of him he could now notice that he had an accumulation of several injuries. Probably sustained from a fight that he might’ve been in or from some other means.

Whatever the case was it wouldn’t really matter since they both found themselves unable to enter their own barracks.

“Well don’t have a key either so I suppose we’re both stuck out here, huh?” Hikaru replied, then he looked up at the large black gate itself and frowned at it’s closed state with disappointment. It looked very fearsome with the sun setting just above it. Dark red, bright oranges and a thick velvety purple colored the sky; giving it a quiet somber tone.

Then looking back to the younger shinigami, he spoke “What's your name guy?” he asked, “Or do you not have one, I’ve never seen you around here before.” His clothes shifted with him and the bright sunset behind him cast a glow on him, making his features stand out in dark contrast with the bright lights surrounding him, like as his blazingly bright orange eyes, and blue highlights in his dark hair.I dream of a world where unicorns eat butterflies and poop out rainbows.

“When were you recruited?”

This seemed to be quite the interesting character. Although he kind of didn’t like the fact that this was turning into a full on conversation with someone that he doesn’t even know that well. Then again this was his fellow division member so he would just have to live with it for now.

“My name is Reshin Izukawa and I was assigned to this division yesterday. I kind of got in a bit of a fix with an old friend of mine on the way here which made a full days detour. Nonetheless here I am,” Reshin responded.

It appeared as if with every passing moment his impatience was beginning to get the better of him. He was already irritated from having to wait even longer to have a chance at actually being initiated into this division. To add onto that he wasn’t really a people person and this particular situation was beginning to make him a little uncomfortable.

“Yesterday, then were you in the academy before then?” The mage asked him, Why is this guy so evasive? Hikaru wondered, Is he a hermit? Or is he just a jerk? he thought, as he did so he cocked his head at an angle, and raised one eyebrow. “Why are you out so late?”

The mage was slightly confused and perturbed by mage beside him, then he looked up at the gate again and said, “Why don’t you try to scale the wall? I’d do it myself if I wasn’t incapacitated at the moment” Hikaru said abit solemnly. A cricket climbed onto his shoulder and chirped in Hikaru’s ear, “Hm, hello little friend” the mage said softly to the cricket.

Then looking at the other mage looked at the man, and tapped his foot impatiently, “So, are you going to climb or not?” the mage inquisitively, holding his crutches. He was tired from walking so far from the fourth barracks down to the eighth, and felt as if he could sleep for a month. Hikaru wanted to get in his bed as soon as possible and didn’t plan on much else.

Now this guy had gone from being somewhat lively to a flat out asshole. And what was with the question about being in the academy before time? No freaking duh he was in the academy before then. And to make things worse Reshin was going from irritated to slightly infuriated at the fact that this man was being so conceited.

Given he seemed injured badly enough, but he was in no shape or form in his state able to make demands. Especially since Reshin is normally very anti-social coupled with a bad temper.

“I would’ve done that, but I figure its my own fault for arriving late. To add onto that I haven’t been officially named as part of the division by the captain and to enter now would only get me in trouble. Besides while I have the time I think I can find a nice quiet place to go meditate,” he said with that last sentence a little bit subliminally aimed.

And with that he began to walk past his fellow shinigami.

Hikaru watched the man stalk past him and into the underbrush, leaving the spellblade to sit and regret his actions as he stared at the shinigami’s retreating form. Damnit Hikaru, you’re supposed to be practicing being nice.he growled at himself, as he limped to catch up to the taller shinigami’s long strides, acting like an ass is only going to land you with more enemies than friends. And you’ve got enough of enemies already.

Hikaru limped after the man as quickly as he could, stumbling over rocks as he went, “Hey wait, I didn’t mean to upset you. Please forgive me, I shouldn’t have been so impatient, or so commanding of you..” he quickly said, calling after the man. Then he tripped over a thick brown tree root etched with cracks and grooves; and fell flat on his face. Then on top of that it began raining, a soft drizzle at first then quickly turned into a heavy downpour. “Damn it” The mage cursed as he tried to push himself up from the dirt, that was quickly turning to mud. Why me? Of all the people in the world why, Why me? the filthy mage asked no one in particular.

Great, now it was raining. What else could possibly make this day worse? Walking ahead he hadn’t noticed the other shinigami had taken the dip in the now muddy pool on the ground so he continued to move ahead. Thinking a moment on where he wished to meditate he remembered that there was a nearby abandoned shop.

It would be there where Reshin would try and see if he’d be able to communicate with his zanpakutou. Taking a cut around the corner he spotted his place of ideal and immediately entered. Sitting down in the middle of the open room in the back he unsheathed his blade and held it open handed from its side.

Focusing intently he tried to establish a link with the zanpakutou he possessed but unknown to him, since he wasn’t paying attention, had been followed there.

Hikaru eventually made it out of the mud and dirt, and followed Reshin’s deep muddy footsteps, [i If he was a rabbit,[/i] Hikaru thought, He’d be dead right now, this kid wouldn’t last two days in a real forest. the spellblade murmured, wondering where he had gone off to. When the footsteps ended, Hikaru found a strange sight. The younger shinigami was sitting down on the floor of a very rickety looking log cabin, complete with a termite ravaged rocking chair and bench. The inside was no better, the door frame looked ready to fall off, the floorboards were curling up while most of them were missing.

In short the whole structure made him think termites were holding hands, to keep hold the building together. So naturally when the mage saw the taller shinigami sitting down on the floor staring at his blade, he was a bit confused. “Hey, what’cha doin?” The mage asked curiously, dragging out the ‘oo’ sound as he spoke.

A little surprised by the fact that someone was actually in there with him Reshin stood up with his sword facing outward to the man until he realized he pointed it at his teammate from earlier. His faced curled in anger as he sheathed his sword once more.

“I’d prefer that you don’t bother me in the middle of meditation. If you wanna pester someone go play with one of these termites in a quiet corner somewhere where I can’t see or hear from you!” he snapped.

Once again this inquisitive vibe killer had struck Reshin with yet another streak of annoyance. This was clearly indicated by the dark expression on Reshin’s face. He seriously did not have time to deal with people, especially this shinigami. How would he be able to establish a connection with his zanpakutou if every five seconds he was interrupted by some overly ecstatic loudmouth like this guy?

Swiftly Reshin walked by seeming as if he was walking away like normal, but when they were side by side he quickly snatched the crutch in his hand from him and struck him behind both knees with it in rapid succession causing the other shinigami to fall. Since he was already injured he shouldn’t have been able to get up this time.

Satisfied with himself Reshin walked out of the building to find somewhere else to meditate and with the bonus of a crutch which he would use for practice later on if he had the chance.

The blow to Hikaru’s knees was unexpected, if not downright embarrassing, the injured mage cried out in surprise and fell into the mud for the second time that day. Grr, tall jackass. Hikaru looked up from the sticky, wet mud and growled. Ya try to be nice

The spellblade thought sourly, then reaching out his free hand in the mud, Hikaru channeled his energy into his hand and spoke audibly, “Hey jackass, you must think you’re funny, huh?!” the mage called to him, then without hesitating Hikaru shouted, ”Cosmos summit!”

Just as Hikaru spoke these words three pillars of rock abruptly, exploded from the ground into the sky, uprooting small plants and weak tree roots as they went in a line, pitching the taller shinigami Reshin into the air as one had risen just beneath him, shooting him into the air, as he rose like a rocket from a cannon. Hikaru’s crutch fell out of the airborne mage’s hand and Hikaru picked it up as it fell, admiring his own handiwork while he rose and limped off slowly, since the three pillars had risen like stairs, with Reshin being on the topmost one; poised to fall down the other two, Thats what happens when you pick on crippled people. If you wanna be left alone just say so, kid. the swordmage smiled.

His sudden use of kidou was quite shocking indeed as he found himself suddenly thrusted skyward. However Reshin wasn’t going to let himself take such a fall. As high up as he was, he estimated about a full eight seconds before colliding with the second pillar so he had enough time to cast his own kidou. Rotating his body he was now facing the pillar with his left hand pointed downward in an open palm.

“God of the wind, release your strength. Call forth the calm before the storm. Hadou number fourty three, dead air!” he shouted as compressed air formed in his hand. Once he was about ten feet from the second pillar he released the air allowing it to rip through the pillar before spreading out in all directions destroying the third pillar, and blowing Hikaru a good distance away as the multiple wind blades slashed his flesh.

Reshin, landing in a crouching position, chuckled to himself before leaving Hikaru’s bloodied body. “Stupid idiot,” he said to himself as his form disappeared in the distance, not taking the time to look at the results of his handiwork.

Hikaru flew backwards like a rocket, crashing into trees and bushes as he went, feeling the wind slash at his body harshly, ripping open closed wounds; then a great ancient oak, with twisted old bark and thick heavy roots, broke his flight. The crippled boy bounced off the oak and stumbled off the hard cracked wood, walking through the gooey mud.

Unfortunately his recent beating had made him delirious, and the spiky headed child felt as if he was floating on some distant cloud, “I’m a pretty little girl with cheese in my wig, and bows on my shoes” he sang in a sing-songy voice, syrupy sweet, “Do you like my dress?” The mage stumbled around drunkenly, holding the edges of his shihakusho like a skirt singing nonsense.

In the meantime, Reshin having thought better of his actions alerted a few paramedics to the shinigami’s current condition. Although it was difficult to explain without giving himself away about what actually happened. Eventually he settled on saying that Hikaru had challenged him to a spar and that he was unaware of the beaten shinigami’s condition.

After this a few members of the fourth raced to recover the man as Reshin snuck out to get away from the situation. Good thing he was a new face otherwise he might’ve not gotten away with doing so.

Once he was confident that he had gotten a good distance away from the fourth’s barracks he now headed in a new direction. Since the eighth’s division gates were locked it wouldn’t do any harm to occupy hi time doing other things.

“I suppose I should probably head back,” he said in a more upbeat manner. Afterwards he set off directly for the eighth division barracks with a new found sense of anticipation.
