    Getting Started

[8th/OPEN] Week --: Laboris Gloria Ludi

Sleep comes to those who wish to dream,
Although it may be forced on others.
If you wish to find the item I mean,
search the home of Yang's brother.

As the two warrior mages read the clue over quietly, Hikaru felt as if he was getting closer to the answer. But that was only because he knew a thing or two about dreaming, "Okay, so the first part is obviously sleep related. So either one of us is getting knocked out, or it has to do with lucid dreaming... Maybe even death, like a cemetery?" The dark haired teen scratched his head and frowned in frustration, Grr, all the time I spend sleeping and I still don't know what the first part means. And I'm completely lost with the other half, Hikaru groaned in frustration and a small black bird flew overhead, and what the hell does the captain mean, yang's brother? Where am I supposed to find Ying?

...Wait a minute, that's the captain? Thats the same dude from the tea shop!

Do Adele and Ren know? Never mind, Adele's pissed at me for being dumb again. And I almost killed Ren, so she definitely won't wanna talk...

AAARGH! Can't I do something right this week?

Elsewhere, Ole and Okita weren't having any luck at Soukyoku Hill. The reference to a cliff hadn't been anything more than a wild goose chase. Sullen, Okita shrugged at Ole.

"Well that was a bust. What now?"

As they both looked at the parchment, Ole pointed to the top half of the clue.

"I think we were on the right track though, look how the first half of the clue references the item. The second half is either redundant, or it does tell us where the clue is located."

"What about the Seventh? 'Spite' could mean something like punishment here."

"Hmm, I don't think so. That seems too vague and the reference to fire was very clear, it'd be strange to have it suddenly be deceptive in telling us where the next clue is located."

"Do you have any better ideas? My best one was the cliff."

"Why don't we try the Ninth Division? There is a gift shop there, which would be an easy place to hide an item as well as obtain it." The Russian reasoned.

"It's worth a shot, I suppose." He said, sounding almost desperate.

Priests,
Sorry I took this the way I did, taking control of Ole and all. I'm hoping that him finding the item is a fair trade :)
Also, if you want to write Okita doing anything or helping your guy figure out anything, that's totally fine. I use "brick red" color, or

It had been a wild guess, Ole had to consent to that, but the Ninth Division's gift shop was one of the most well-supplied store he had ever seen. Moreover, it was so full of trinkets and knick-knacks of various sorts that it was bound to contain something that could produce a flame. Or at the very least, there would surely be something that was flammable. With that information in mind, the duo entered the cramped market, looking around the shelves and the collection of items on display.

It was incredible how easy it was sometimes to create a bond between people with something as simple as a small game, such as a scavenger hunt, for instance. The Russian was really pleased that their contained party was keeping track with the whole hunt. On the other hand, they had lost sight of the other teams, so the blonde mathematician could not fathom who was on the lead.

Abruptly, the former monk stopped and stared at the bag of tiny metal objects in front of him. Zippo lighters! the maimed shinigami exclaimed mentally, that is perfect! Now we just need to find the right one though...

Looking around the shop once more, Ole searched for his companion. “Okita,” he called, smiling, when he pinpointed the other spellweaver, “what do you think of a lighter?”

[ 223 / 814 ]

A lighter?

Okita examined the flame thrower hanging in the wall of the gift shop, not an unlikely item at a Ninth Division gift shop, and then moved his gaze to the bag of lighters near his Russian counterpart.

"I suppose, it could be that..." He said, almost sullen that it wasn't the flame thrower.

Okita reached up and removed one of the lighters from the bag. It was a metal-hinged, brushed polish lighter, with a tiny lip on the edges of the main storage and the lid where it clasped shut. On it was the Ninth Division symbol, which could be found in various styles; etched, waterstained, burned, embossed or engraved.

He flicked open the lid and looked at Ole, who simultaneously lit up with Okita over what was inside.

"We did it!" Okita said, removing the tiny sliver of parchment that had been stored inside.

"It's your find, you open it," he said, handing the parchment to Ole.

Meanwhile, the other competitors were having just as much difficulty or luck, depending on how you looked at it, interpreting their first clue.

“Wow, did I hit a nerve or something?” Setsuna asked, easily catching up to Hikaru, “Lighten up kid, you never know which moment will be your last.” He smiled and rolled his eyes, focusing back on the matter at hand.

“Sleep and death are two different things kid. ‘Forced on others’... Maybe it’s something to do with getting knocked out.” Yang’s brother? Can’t say I know any people called Yang. Or like Yin and Ya... Yin? Isn’t that the name of the Ninth’s new captain? The Ninth seat looks back at the clue.

So it’s something to do with the Ninth... Maybe a knockout gas? He rapped his knuckles on Hikaru’s head.

“Come on kid, we’re off to the Ninth.”

OOC: sorry for lateness and small turn...rl hacking at my legs.

The old man shrugged at the girls guess but as he thought about it, that really did seem like the appropriate answer. Dellius shuddered though as he hoped the girl was wrong. He could only wonder where such a scandalous bit of clothing would be kept for the scavenger hunt and there were some things that he simply wouldn't tolerate. He could only prey that Nevada was wrong.

The spellswordstress sat for a moment, thinking. "I really don't know if there's anything else that it could be. But where would we find a red dress? Last I checked, shinigami weren't the most fashionable people. Nor are Rukongai citizens."

She moved her legs, plopping herself firmly on the grass, the many dew drops kissing her feet and legs as she did so. Where could she actually find a dress? She looked up at the giant elder, frowning. "Do you know where we could get a dress like that?"

Hikaru growled slightly at the ninth seats knuckles against his skull, but followed grudgingly. The unusually depressed soul, was to upset with himself to be irritated with anyone, To the ninth I guess. Maybe I can find a drug to get rid of my guilt in a shop. A light breeze danced around the teen s he trudged down the dusty path, and movement caught his eye as he went.

It was a dark and moody sort of reiatsu, sad and lonely wallowing in darkness, What the hell? the teen thought, turning his head expecting to see someone bruised and beaten, pale, and covered from head to toe in body jewlery. But instead he was gifted with a disturbing, and infuriating sight, "Reshin... I still owe that bastard an ass whupping for putting me in the forth that day," he growled angrily.

In his defense, it was you who was trying to talk to him, I'd have put you in the fourth too. Crutches or not.

Oh, shut up. Nobody asked you anyway.

Nobody never asks anybody, any thing he's a very quiet person. He could teach you a few things.

Reshin was in a frenzy to meet up with his comrades after inadvertently oversleeping. The invitation to attend the meeting had been delivered to his door ahead of time so he had no excuse to be late. The result of his late night training now seemed to be catching up with him, and at the worst possible time to add. Sprinting across the division grounds Reshin could see the small group standing in the distance. When he finally reached them he noticed a familiar figure in which he immediately became disgusted with.

"I wonder what that boy must be upset about?" Shuryou Onikage asked with concern.

"Quite honestly I couldn't care less seeing as there are more important matters to attend too," Reshin responded bluntly as he watched Miyazaki run off.

Taking his position he bowed to his superiors and waited for the inevitable scorn that would befall him for his tardiness.

“Ok!” Ole exclaimed, unrolling the note and handing the metallic lighter to his companion. Then he read the message contained in the small piece of paper aloud, "FInd a REceptacle in which to WORK the sky into a frenzy."

After a moment of thought, the Russian continued with a sullen face, “I guess this time Kago-taichou didn’t put that much effort in his riddle...”

“Anyway,” the blonde mathematician observed, with a cunning look in his eye, “I have a pretty good idea of what we are looking for and where we can obtain what we need.”

“Can you guess?” he added sly, showing Okita the weird way in which the message had been written. “To the Ninth Division’s research lab!” Where’s Dokon where I need him? A Dokon, a Dokon for my reign... The former monk went all ironical before moving.

[ 141 / 955 ]

As Ole walked away, Okita studied the clue for a moment and then, as if activating the metaphorical light bulb, lit up with realization.

"Ahhh, I get it," he remarked, "Yeah, you're right."

Seeing that Ole had already marched off to his decided upon destination, Okita wondered where exactly they would even get their item. Based on his announcing, it was certain that his marred Shinigami partner already knew but it somewhat puzzled on his mind, as if missing a piece.

"Do you really think we can find it there?"

Ole either didn't hear him or didn't wish to acknowledge him with an answer he already knew. If he hadn't been so sure of himself, Okita might've questioned his conclusion further. He shrugged, content to follow his partner's intuition and tucked the clue into his robes as he darted in a trail behind.

A little surprised that his late appearance wasn't noticed by many, thank goodness, Reshin looked around to see a many of faces that he did not recognize. This sort of made him feel uncomfortable as if he were an outcast since he knew practically no one here. Well all except for Nevada who caught his eye when he looked out toward the plain of grass.

In usual fashion she was doing whatever it was Nevada does with her life on a daily basis. At other times Reshin would purposely avoid her so that he wouldn't get dragged into an ongoing discussion of menial matters. But at this exact moment Reshin didn't want to seem like the odd ball out so like young children who spot their friend on the playground he gravitated toward her general direction.

[136/296]

Thirst for knowledge, thirst for results, thirst for what might be behind the next corner. Had the former monk learnt nothing? The consequences of his past actions were evident and had bestowed upon him so much pain, that the blonde mathematician wondered how he could still get caught in that trap. I thought I had succeeded in winning this battle, the former monk pointed out to himself, but it seems that I cannot let my focus slip for even one moment. Involuntarily, his left maimed hand twitched by itself, closing into a fist. No feeling came through even when his nails begun to bite into his skin.

“Sorry, Okita,” Ole commented with a short bow, perceiving the not so subtle hint in his companion voice, “I just got carried away... I didn’t want to seize the scene for myself, nor ignore your point of view.” A small sad pause followed. “I’ve been around the Ninth Division for quite some time in the past, and researchers tend to stick to their habits, one way or another,” the maimed shinigami explained. “Since what we are looking for is what technologists around here would call recreational explosives,” Ole continued, “I imagined the research lab would be the best place in this compound to check for something like that.”

By then, the duo of spellweavers had reached the security door of the research labs underground facility. “Ole Bishoff,” the Russian stated in the intercom, “put me through to senior researcher Dokon, please.” Then looking towards Okita once more, he said, “The fact that there is a warehouse close by is just too convenient to be a coincidence.” The blond mathematician waited for the security door to start whirring open, before adding, “If we are lucky, we might just discover that Kago-taicho had passed through here recently...”

Sorry, man

Ohi, Lambo, I had not realized how my last turn would seem from an outside point of view...

Anyway, feel free to bring us to the second item... or not! :-P

Ambling casually through the front doors of the Ninth, Setsuna paused for a moment then strode up to the main reception desk.

“Hey there,” he said, leaning on the desk with his elbows, “This is gonna sound weird but is there any chance I can get my hands on something that could knock someone out?” The receptionist simply stared blankly at him.

“Yeah, I probably should have phrased that differently,” he whispered, “Look, the Eighth is having some treasure hunt thing and I need something that can ‘force sleep’ on someone so...”

“Knockout pellets.”

“Come again?” Setsuna said.

“Knockout pellets,” the receptionist repeated, “There should be some in one of the rooms down the hallway.” She pointed down to her left.

“OK then,” Setsuna said, “come on kid, let’s get to it.”

"No fighting? Sounds good to me." Hikaru ran after his temporary partner and deep into a long dark hallway that reminded Hikaru strangely of a subway tunnel, lined with shelves up to the ceiling like support pillars, with few creaky lights swaying back and forth like pendulums on a string, "Wow, this must be an older hallway... I wonder," the teen said thinking aloud.

Wonder what?

I wonder, if maybe the ninth would rent this place out to rukon kids... They could have a lot of fun playing hide-and-seek here... he replied still looking around, as he brushed a particularly long stand of hair from his face, You know, since they don't get a whole lot of things from soul reapers... or things in general.

Humph, maybe so. But regardless to that you need to focus on the task on hand, Queenie replied thoughtfully, Maybe with a seat you can use that power to follow through on it, with permission from the ninth captain of course. Now, look above you what does that box say there?

Hikaru turned and looked up to make a happy discovery,"KNOCKOUT PELLETS TEAM 1" was written hastily in kanji the bottom, and sides of a large brown box sitting high upon a shelf, "Not everybody is subtle, but subtle is normal, and nobody is normal," he said happily as the caramel-skinned young man pulled the box off the shelf, "Why would anybody want to be? Weird wins wars, normal gets ribbons."

The orange-eyed teen turned and walked, back towards the scarred toting redhead while opening the box. Inside was three packests of smoke pellets, and buried inside one, was the next clue, "Hmm."

Spotting the form of Reshin making his way toward a pair of shinigami, the captain of the Eighth division disappeared on the spot and reappeared directly in front of him.

"Reshin, correct?" he inquired rhetorically. "I am afraid that you are not a part of that group. You are, in fact, partnered up with-"

Kago reached into his shihakushou and withdrew a long, rolled up piece of parchment. Finding Reshin's name almost immediately, he noticed it was paired was an all-too-familiar name and frowned. She was one of the few shinigami that refused to meet with him when he was only the vice-captain and claimed she only had time for captains.

"Natsumi Riho."

Instantly, an unfamiliar trio emerged from the remaining stragglers. Taking the lead was an average framed female, who appeared to have removed the upper half of her shihakusho and replaced it with her own sleeveless variation. Her ebony skin complemented her blonde hair, despite its bold pink tips.

Behind her trailed two men. One was a mountain of a man who had scars that littered his face as well as the exposed parts of his neck and hands. The other styled his hair like spikes in every direction providing the nobleman a clear view of the widened expression of his eyes and the numerous black-lightning tattoos that streaked like fingers down the left side of his face until they were obscured by his shihakusho.

"It's fine, boys. I can handle it from here," Natsumi announced with a dismissive wave. On cue, the pair made their way over to Ayame and, with a bit of intimidation, procured not one but two envelopes. The giant returned and handed one to the woman before both men disappeared from sight.

Ignoring the gaze of the captain, the female shinigami opened the clue and smirked. Slamming the paper against Reshin's chest, she turned her back to them and barked to her partner. "Come on, kid. We're headed to the Tenth division."

While the other teams continued their search, Okita and Ole had just entered the elevator, passing several mechanical, low-security doors along the way. They had discussed the various options from the guide on the wall that denoted the specialty of each area. It was mostly foreign to Okita, who was only normally permitted to the second and fourth-floor basements for the testing required as part of the Gotei's wariness over his former status as a Vizard.

"I suggest the second-floor basement, Bishoff-dono. I've seen more explosions down there than I have anywhere else in this place. I imagine the storehouse we want would also be there for the fireworks."

He registered Ole's affirmation of the idea, noting his non-verbal "yes" as he pushed the button. Ole had been somewhat quiet since thinking that he had offended Okita, an almost comical misunderstanding of Okita's compliance. Okita hadn't, and most likely would not at all, address the issue, electing instead to let it blow over and allow the Russian time to get used to the flow of their partnership.

Lost in thought, Okita endured the ticks of the floors passing by them until a pleasant ring and a robotic voice told them they had arrived. As the mechanism pried the doors apart, the clinically clean and rather busy-looking business of the Dionysius floor was opened to them.

"Let's go find some fireworks." The yellow-eyed warrior said, gesturing with a light tap of his back hand against Ole's chest.

It's totally fine. I was just following your lead at that moment. For anyone else that reads this and ends up in the Ninth-division, I recommend consulting the Ninth Division thread in the Cardinal Spirit Library for a description of the grounds.

Dellius flinched when he heard Nevada's question. When he answered, he spoke with a tone that made it clear he was slightly insulted

"I would not be familiar with such....garments or the places of their purchasing," he said stiffly. "Though I may know someone who might."

Dellius moved away from Nevada and quickly scanned for his friend Rei Legends. He was a reasonably easy going individual so perhaps he would know where he'd get such a thing. Being tall had its advantage as he was easily able to spot him out of the crowd. Tapping on his shoulder he gave a bow and went straight to the point.

"Would you perhaps know where I could get a red dress of...erm...promiscuous taste?" Dellius asked uncomfortably. The blonde haired man looked at him then looked at Nevada and a wide grin spread on his face.

"Whatever improper thoughts are going through your head, you're to oust them immediately. I ask because of the scavenger hunt."

"Alright alright, I'm just teasing," Rei said chuckling. "I happen to know someone who collects all sorts of stuff from the world of the living. There could be a red dress from his stockpile. But in exchange, I want to go with you."

"Don't you have your own riddle to solve?"

"To be honest, I'm lost as all hell and I really don't care regardless. Still for you to ask for a dirty dress...I'm quite curious to what you're going to do with it."

The old man didn't enjoy how Rei was smiling, but the group was already behind, so Dellius relented. The gentleman they were looking for was within the Eighth himself. He was a handsome gentleman with well chiseled features though he was much shorter than most folk. Rei and the man were having a discussion to themselves. It was a couple of minutes, before Rei came back to him.

"Well he has one yes....but he won't give it up...unless he gets a model to wear it for him," he said.

Dellius's eye twitched at the thought of such a thing and then looked back at Nevada once who was standing away from them.

"Very well...you will have your model." Dellius said grinding his teeth. "Just show me the dress first."

Before he ran off he went back to Nevada.

"Do forgive me miss, but I will require that you wait here for the moment. I truly believe that what you said may indeed be the right answer and since I was useless in the first part I will take it upon myself to find the next part."

He bowed once more and ran off.

Dionysius, eh, the Russian reflected in his mind while the elevator brought them to the right floor, the floor of poison and explosives... The right choice! In the meantime, anyhow, Ole got his mind filled with all kind of memories of the past a different underground disposition of laboratories. Yet, the Ninth Division could not build facility above ground for fear that something big and hear could get loose in Seireitei or in Rukongai. Or it might just go boom and be done with it, you may never know with the Research and Development’s experiments.

When the elevator stopped, the blonde mathematician needed just a quick glance at the plant on the wall in front of the lift to know which was the right direction. Turning left with a regal gesture of the arm, Ole observed, “Do you think there will be a third riddle? We still need a location after all.”

The actual explosives storeroom was closed and secured with a monstrous lock only a Ninth Division member might have invented, or might find reasonable. Nonetheless, the area of testing beyond was full of explosives of every form and function, not to mention a certain amount of fireworks. At least they looked like fireworks.

“I think we need to search this front area,” the former monk proposed, “hoping that nothing explode in our face.” Then, taking a step forward and gesturing towards various row of assembly desks, Ole added, “Let’s start from there...?”

Reshin had at first thought that his absence with in the large crowd had been overlooked. Upon being stopped by the taichou, identified by his white haori, appeared in front of him at random. Shocked at first the swordmage in training didn't exactly know how to take the situation. Then upon hearing the name of the one he would be partnered with followed by the captain's expression he figured it was going to be hell.

Then with the appearance of his partner and her two presumed guards as Reshin saw them, he couldn't help but wonder what exactly was in store for him that day. He soon found at as he was forcibly given the papers she had carried over. Without hesitation he simply obeyed her command to follow her, but in his mind he already knew it wasn't going to be too fun of an experience.

"I believe that this should be an interesting day. So long as you do what she says and nothing less you should be fine. Until your partnership with her has ended please try to remain positive on the note that it will soon be over," Shuryou Onikage said trying to be reassuring.

"Sometimes I wish that we could switch places so I wouldn't have to deal with this," Reshin complained.
