The color white which symbolizes life and purity in one's soul. The sign of one who is kind and undoubtedly heaven bound. The people who are accepted by all because of their seeming divinity. But what about the one's who souls are viewed as tainted? The one's who are regarded sin bound because of the darkness that lives with in them? Black is the color that most suitably represents them simply because it symbolizes their impending death at the hands of those who see them as the fallen.
""I see that you've spent quite some time thinking on the matter concerning your most recent encounter," Shuryou Onikage said observant of his wielder.
"Indeed I have, but I'm still not sure why it is that we have to live as we do," Reshin said confused.
Lately he had been feeling as if his life, and that of the other shinigami, were only worth it exterminating hollows and nothing more. Despite his disgust in such an ideal he couldn't help but believe that such was the case with each passing day. Central forty six seemed indifferent to them as it would appear.
For one thing shinigami weren't exactly viewed by the majority of citizens in Rukongai as peacekeepers or guardians. In fact some citizens of Rukongai out right despised them even though they never openly showed it. And as far as how shinigami made a living it wasn't really anything spectacular. In fact it was incredibly dangerous what they did. However Reshin continued telling himself that it was for a just cause, but something kept tugging at him saying that shinigami were meant for an even higher purpose.
"Perhaps it would be better if you didn't give these things so much thought. All it will do is cause you to sabotage yourself and your comrades," Shuryou Onikage stated with authority.
Perhaps your right, but I can't silence this voice in my head," Reshin complained.
You should spend more time in meditation rather than dabbling in something that only serves to disrupt your concentration. Remember that you chose this life as soon as you decided to wield me. Now it is your solemn duty to protect as many lives as you can," Shuryou Onikage said convincingly.
Come to think of it that was one of the reasons he decided to become a shinigami. Looking into the infinite darkness that was his inner world Reshin recalled that he chose to take on the responsibilities of a shinigami to find his place of belonging. That inadvertently made it his responsibility to protect it as well. This meant that regardless of how he felt he had made an oath on his life to maintain the balance of souls in both worlds.
"You know something friend. I think that whatever the case may be, like these ever shifting shadows, I will continue to cover and preserve the humanity in all souls," Reshin said smiling.
"I'm glad to know that you finally understand. Its funny to know that every time you enter this world you always leave wiser than when you last came. It brings me joy seeing you progress as you do. Just stay on the path you have laid out for yourself. Follow it always and it will guide you to where ever you wish to go," Shuryou Onikage said as the shadows vanished.
Waking up to the moonlight Reshin gazed up at the sky. He now knew that he would have to grow stronger if he is to ever be able to protect the only thing that means so much to him.
