Sorrow, hatred, envy, and malice. These are some of the very demons that haunt our spirits and corrupt our nature. It is because of these things that hostility exists and why people are so eager to strike down their fellow men. These demons constantly take hold of us whenever we allow ourselves to become engulfed within our own wickedness. This same evil is what causes war, famine, alienation of others, and worst of all the mutilation of our own humanity as a people. Now I say unto all of you repent or suffer eternal damnation for your satanic deeds.
It was mid-night when Reshin arose from his bed to find himself smiled upon by the beautiful light of the full moon. The vast array of stars that cast themselves in a great grin across the sky made it seem as if the gods themselves were smiling on his unworthy stature. Feeling at ease after his recent volley of missions Reshin decided it best to take advantage of his free time by catching up on his meditation, which because of his increasingly busy schedule he had little chance to do anymore.
Finding his favorite spot under a nearby withered cherry tree he rested his back against the stump and began to take a series of deep breathes as he concentrated on attaining complete peace with his surrounding area. Despite being the middle of winter the cold didn't bother Reshin like it used too. As a matter of fact he was so consumed in his training, and his duties as a shinigami, that he never actually took notice of the change in the weather.
"Shuryou Onikage," Reshin called out.
"I am here child. What is it that troubles you?" Shuryou Onikage asked.
"I need your assistance my friend," Reshin pleaded.
"Very well then. Please come with me," Shuryou Onikage instructed.
And with that the dark abyss that formed Reshin's inner world began to take form into the location of his death. Now he found himself standing in the midst of the same ally in which that hollow had attacked him that fateful day. Standing there gave him a deep feeling of rage as Shuryou Onikage appeared in the likeness of his owner. Together they watched as his last memory played out with his pitiful death as a human. Then immediately afterward the memories of his miserable life and the torment he was forced to endure.
"Any reason in particular why you wanted to see this?" Shuryou Onikage inquired.
"So that I may never forget," Reshin replied.
In what seemed like an endless ocean of small children there stood one different from the others. This child who was abandoned by his own parents never knew what it meant to be truly happy. Neither did he know what love was or the forms in which it was given.
Because of this he separated himself from the other kids because he never learned how to interact properly with them. Every time he would try he would be teased because of his awkwardness until one day he could no longer stand it.
"Let me go!" a young boy cried as he felt his throat being compressed.
Reshin stood above the boy tightening his grip on the little boy's neck. His eyes showed no emotion in them whatsoever as his free hand began slamming repeatedly into the other child's round face. Onlooking kids gasped in absolute terror as they watched the savage brutality displayed by the one whom the adults had nicknamed 'The child of the Styx'. In moments however this rampage would end as a teacher manages to break up the one sided brawl.
"Your a monster!" the other child, bloodied and beaten, yelled out as Reshin was taken away from the class.
Once Reshin was taken into the hallway his teacher knelt before him. She was in her early twenties and was a woman of pure beauty with soft blue eyes, and long waving black hair. It wasn't the first time she had dealt with Reshin's outburst as it happened very frequently. As it happened she was the only one who wasn't afraid to deal with him like everyone else. She in a sense was probably the only mother figure he ever really had.
"Now Reshin you know what I said about solving your problems with violence," she began. Her own blue eyes glaring intently into Reshin's own red irises. "You know that it doesn't help anything in the end, but actually makes things worse for you. Please tell me what happened this time," she pleaded as she held his small hands in her own.
Reshin was very slow to answer to what his teacher had to say. He already knew that he had burdened her greatly by losing his temper the way he just did. But if he didn't answer her at all then he would only force her hand on the matter.
"I hate them all. Why is it that they all have normal lives and I don't? What makes them any better than me?!" he shouted before realizing his mistake and calming down again. "They all make fun of me because I'm different," he muttered to himself.
Having listened to him plead his case the woman out of compassion held him close to her as his tears finally let loose.
"Its okay to be different Reshin. Just remember that you are who you are and no one can take that away from you," she spoke tenderly.
Before the memory could be continued any further Reshin's inner world began to shift again. This time he found himself at least seven years ahead after his previous memory. Here Reshin is shown sitting alone under a tree eating his lunch in a small courtyard overlooked by a massive school building. It is here where his introversion would become in his eyes a good thing rather than a drawback.
Sitting all by himself he felt at peace. No one to bother him with their petty insults, no one to annoy him with requests that had nothing to do with him, and no one to irritate him with their lingering presence. Unfortunately this couldn't be maintained as a group of eight or so students approached the solitary male. The leader of the group being a girl no taller than five feet named Mao who being the most popular girl in school always had a legion of followers wherever she went.
Not bothering to acknowledge their existence Reshin continued eating as if everything was entirely trivial which seemed to tick off one of the members of Mao's personal entourage.
"Hey you!," a girl in Reshin's class blurted out. "Whats your problem you weirdo! You must think your so cool tuning us out, but guess what if you were so cool then why is it that everyone hates you!" she snorted.
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid your weak attempt to offend me is only gonna serve to amuse me more than bother me. To clarify the point that you were TRYING to make I will tell you now that the reason I don't have any friends is because I find the concept trivial. Unlike most others I don't crave contact from anyone. Rather it irritates me because who in their right mind can stand someone talking to them about the most insignificant matters all day. If you ask me I'd rather remain alone so I don't have to bother with these things," Reshin responded dryly.
The group of girls than became riled up and started to encircle him. Then raising a hand up Mao signaled the rest of the group to back off as she stepped directly in front of Reshin.
"Pardon me, but I couldn't help but wonder if your saying this because you mean it or because you have no one else. Considering that you never had a family we don't expect you to understand bonds, but I suppose your right about one thing. Who would want to be around someone whose such a narc? I hope one of these days you realize your life is pointless and you decide to end it all," Mao said coldly.
However the response Reshin gave would disappoint Mao as he started to laugh at her. Not too many moments later he would actually laugh so much to the point where it was completely hysterical. Afterwards when he could finally control his laughter he stood up to face the group in front of him.
"You know I already consider myself dead any how so I never found the need, but thank you for being so thoughtful," he said sarcastically as he walked past them with a sadistic grin on his face.
Once again his inner world shifted back to the eternally dark abyss abruptly ending the memory as it had done previously.
"I still don't understand why you asked me to show you these neither do I understand what you meant earlier," Shuryou Onikage stated.
"I apologize for not being clear on that before. I simply asked you to show me these so that I may never forget who I am. So that I may never forget why I became a shinigami," Reshin replied.
