"Giving up already?" Dai asked, chuckling. His shoulder was beginning to ooze red, but Sho was in much worse shape "" not bleeding by any means "" but the damage had been done.
Sho leapt to his feet and thrust his sword forward, at first he'd held back a little, a mix of not wanting to obliterate Dai once again and also through some sort of feeling that he'd need to be beaten to a pulp to achieve his Shikai; he realised now neither was going to get him very far and he exerted maximum force upon being parried by Dai, negating it and continuing on with the slash, cutting his opponent and causing him to stagger back in agony.
"Do I look like I'm giving up?" Sho replied finally as his opponent regained his bearings, "This has only just begun!" The two men rushed at each other, but Sho decided he would attempt to fight another way. Quickly shifting himself into a side-on position he raised his right arm up behind his head for balance and adopted a Fencing stance, eager to prove he was not to be underestimated, regardless of how much better Dai had seemed to have grown.
Noticing the change in stance, Dai was cautious but decided to proceed on with his attack. Sho leapt back and parried the blow with relative ease, piercing forward with his sword and barely missing his opponent who ungracefully fell back in an attempt to dodge the attack; inadvertently barely doing so.
"Well I see that I've gone and miscalculated," Dai remarked, getting up to his feet, noticing the odd expression on his friend's face, he grinned, "One of your lines I take it... Sho? It's quite fun pretending to be super smart, I must say."
"Pretending?" Sho asked, smiling, "Hardly." While at first it appeared that Sho would go on the offensive with his Zanpakutou, he seemed to hesitate and change his mind; he'd decided on trying something else.
"What are you up to?" Dai asked cautiously, drawing his blade, but he needn't be reminded. Sho was thinking on his feet now, neglecting to overanalyse and explain as he did so commonly, he was merely enjoying it.
"The south gate is broken. The north gate shatters. Hadou #15, Genshi." Recognising this, Dai leapt and flawlessly dodged it, having taken note of the atom shape in their previous battle and now well knowing this to be it's main weakness.
"That won't work on me!" he cried, rushing at the researcher and slashing him down. As a stream of blood trickled down his shoulder, Sho let out a sigh. Both men were now equally beaten and bruised and the match looked to be nearing its finish. Whilst Sho had neglected to use his two other main Kidou spells in their previous battle, he didn't see them as very fitting at this point, instead opting to use his new preferred Kidou spell, although... it would take some heavy preparation.
Was the object really to win this fight though? Would that awaken his Zanpakutou's spirit? He doubted it. In fact, it seemed highly likely it'd be more necessary for him to lose the fight, but that wasn't the right attitude and he didn't intend to end the battle with it.
"Scared Sho? Dai questioned, rushing at the young member of the Ninth Division with an intent bordering on ruthless. Perhaps he'd forgotten this was merely a tool to activate Sho's Shikai... or perhaps he'd still harboured some feelings of distaste to that very fact and didn't wish to see such a dream fulfilled... no that was foolish; they were friends, Dai was doing exactly as he'd promised, he was pushing Sho to his limit.
"Wait... wait... take your best shot... only, allow me to recite my favourite passage from my favourite book before our final confrontation." Sho cleared his throat and looked to his friend for permission to speak.
"...Go for it," Dai replied cautiously, "I'm not sure what good that's going to do for you... a confidence boost perhaps?" Dai smirked, he'd be laughing about this one for days on end if he flawlessly demolished Sho after this so called "˜confidence booster' was recited.
Sho raised his right thumb in thanks, "Ye Lord! Mask of flesh and bone, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, Upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws!"
"Fair enough"”" Dai began, but was cut off by a surge in Sho's reiatsu and a deathly chill rolled down his spine.
"Hadou #33, Soukatsui!"
"Wait! What?"
A surge of Kidou shot forward and connected with Dai, a powerful explosion ripped between the two and scorched the grass around where Dai was "" or more appropriately "" had been standing; he was now face down on the grass a body's length or two away from the point of impact.
"It's over... sadly... the voices have only gotten the slightest bit clearer. I know I'm close... but I just can't get over the final threshold." Sho looked over his wounds with distaste but found solace in the fact he'd bested Dai yet again.
"Or so you think," came the muffled voice of Dai, slowly rising from the ground and turning to face Sho with a most determined looked on his face. This was now most certainly not only a means to an end for gaining Sho's Shikai; this was a full blown round two, although at this point neither man looked like they could "˜go the distance' and "" while he had previously thought the same thing "" it looked almost certain that these next few seconds would be decisive.
The two men ran at each other for the now "" most certainly "" final time. Dai carried with him a determination he'd lacked on all accounts before and easily overpowered even Sho's impressive fencing style. Knocking Sho to the floor, he made no attempt at gloating or savouring the moment and raised his sword above his head. While he certainly wasn't intending to connect and kill the ninth division member, he'd need to come close to the point where it would be considered a win.
While the most common method of countering such a downward thrust would be to roll to the side, Sho felt that doing so would only prolong the inevitable, he'd quickly figured out a winning strategy.
The Skin on Sho's right hand seemed to dissolve and while Sho had insisted on it being as tasteful as possible, the initial shock of seeing it caused Dai to falter and stagger back. The tip of a spear extended from where Sho's hand was meant to be and without warning it shot out and stopped just short of Dai's head. "Ikimi Kengeki... Game."
Dai fainted as Sho rose to his feet, "Damn and I still don't know the name of..." he stopped, that last whisper sounded as clear as day "" with only the sound of his own voice blocking it from his ears. Again, again he pleaded, please... again!
"Mar...tire..." Sho muttered, a surge of reiatsu surrounded him and manifested itself as a faint blue aura around his body for several seconds before it faded away and Sho's Zanpakutou manifested itself into the form of a rapier "" a weapon far more befitting of his fighting style.
"...Let's see what this baby can do," came a familiar voice from atop a small hill behind the two combatants; it was Mieko, beaming and standing triumphantly, watching the sun begin to set. "Come, come now. Learning it's name is only the first step... it's time to test it out."
