Making for the exit, Sho continued to run at an ever increasing pace, frightened for his life. He didn't want to die in this accursed machine, but he surely would suffer for his incompetence if he didn't escape quickly; yes quickly, that was the most imperative thing... oh to have Shunpo right now, now that would be fantastic. Alas, he did not possess such ability and the young technician ran as fast as his legs could carry him.
Dismantling and eradicating a machine that had been removed from the premises and left in the courtyard... simple? He had thought so and indeed it had been... until he'd sneezed. Why had he sneezed when turning the dial on the explosives? He was meant to have set them for ten minutes... not one. Now he found himself almost out of energy, struggling to escape the giant behemoth of a machine that had once had some use "" whatever that might have been "" within the Ninth Division he was a member of.
Finally, Sho saw the exit, blinded by a patch of light and the scientist ran as fast as he could, finding new energy he did not know he possessed. Sadly, the explosion also seemed to find the same energy and the deafening noise and smouldering heat grew ever closer. It was times like these he regretted even accepting the offer to join the maintenance crew "" sure it hadn't been offered to him as the maintenance and demolishing crew but the offer of blowing up a giant machine hadn't seemed like a bad offer when he'd been asked to do it.
Finally he saw the faces of Dai and Mieko, blank and jolly respectively. Mieko began to cheer him on with a giddy, childish glee in her eyes; she seemed to find his predicament quite amusing. He needed help, but he knew Mieko didn't possess the qualities to assist him and his energy was a few seconds from its limit with approximately double the ground to cover, he was finished.
"Stuffed it up really good didn't you Sho?" Dai questioned rhetorically before flashing behind him. Was that a Shunpo? A basic level one, surely, but a Shunpo none the less... Dai had been training well.
"Any further planning? God I hope you planned ahead," Sho muttered turning quickly to face the fire with his closest friend alongside him. Dai wasn't one to think ahead very often, Sho could only hope that today was an exception.
"Howl from above, strike with swiftness... Gust, Aeriel!" Dai's Zanpakutou shone and exploded in a flash of light into its released form. Looking very much like a regular Zanpakutou, the striking differences were most certainly the sleeker design, sharper edge and two small wings that looked highly decorative at the bottom of the hilt.
"Shikai?" Sho asked suddenly, "You've achieved Shikai?" Dai merely offered a nod in response and summoned all his energy and cast a powerful burst of wind at the two of them and they were blown back to a safe distance next to Mieko to watch as the explosions met the core batch of explosives and the entire machine showered down around them.
Mieko let out a giggle and looked at the tow, her goggles were on to protect her eyes from flying debris but luckily they'd been at an angle unaffected particularly by any raining scrap metal. "I've already called a clean-up crew," she stated, "They'll fix this mess... what would you do without me?"
"Oh yeah, jeez... thanks for all your help with blowing the thing up and saving my life and stuff... oh wait," Sho replied roughly, "you didn't help with any of that, Dai and myself were the ones doing that."
"Now, now... no need to get angry," Mieko stated simply. "I helped to my best capacity; you two did a good job. Now Sho, I believe you had another job that needed doing?"
"Not really..." Sho began simply.
"Sorry, Dai, but he really must be going." Grabbing the young technician by the arm, Mieko hurried back inside and rushed both herself and Sho into her own rented lab, leaving Dai standing outside in bewilderment.
"What was it you wanted?" Sho asked, looking around the cold and darkened room, "Like you said... I have work to do, I need to get back to my own small, office and wait for any further instructions."
"Oh, but there's work for you here..." Mieko muttered, pouting and pointing to a faulty machine she'd stored in the corner. "I need that fixed so I can continue my analysis of some data."
Sho let out a sigh and checked over the machine quickly, finding only basic faults with it in a short but complex glance. He turned to his fellow ninth division Shinigami and let out a second sigh, "Nothing you can't just fix yourself... now, if you really want me to come and take a look at it, then why don't you just put in a request for technical assistance?"
"Well then I'd look like an idiot and it'd take ages for them to process my request and send somebody... low importance you see; I need it done as soon as possible. Please... Sho? Surely you'd help a friend in her time of need, surely you wouldn't abandon her when she needs you most."
"Oh alright, I'll get to work on this then." He grabbed his scanner from his pocket and tossed it the floor, once again it sprang to life and began inspecting the damage done to the machine.
"Yay! Great! Thanks!" Rushing to the door, Mieko slammed it shut and let out a small laugh, "Have it fixed when I return from my lunch break," she commanded, "Thanks for all your help!"
He should have seen that coming, but she'd played the sympathy card and he now found himself sitting alongside his scanner as it came back quickly with the assessment that it was simply a hardware fault, the most basic of errors for a machine of this calibre and something Mieko herself could have fixed easily if she hadn't been so lazy. Letting out a large groan, Sho began working on the machine, knowing it would be a ten minute job; a technician's work was never done.
