It was a beautiful day outside and what better way to spend it, than falling out of bed like our redheaded friend we haven’t heard from in a while?

THUMP!

Aelflead hit the ground and woke with a jolt, groaning with the rude awakening. “Fuck!” She complained to the morning.

Her first words.

“Well, that’s certainly one way to greet the morning,” taunted a cracking voice.

Aelflead looked around, still blearily eyed from just waking up and spied the voice’s owner. It was the innkeeper’s son, a snot nosed brat about twelve years old and ridiculously big for his age, even standing up Aelflead had to look up to stare him in the face. The boy was lanky with freckles, dirty blond hair, and long arms the woman might have assumed were for opening doors thanks to his mother’s profession. Ironically, the kid was a devout asshole and Aelflead had taken little pleasure out of their spats these past few mornings. Unfortunately, laying low and being paid enough to leave the city did not necessarily go together.

The teen rolled his eyes, not missing a beat and turned around to leave sharply. “At least I’m not some deadbeat in an Attic,” he retorted, glancing over the room disdainfully while he dropped off the spurii’s breakfast. As the trapdoor closed and the boy disappeared down the steps, Aelflead’s boot found the wall with a solid ‘thump’, and she turned to scarf down the breakfast he’d brought.

Eggs and bacon over spiced grains with a black cup of coffee on a saucer. The saucer and bowl were dark brown, decorated with flowing thin lines of orange around the edges, and looked well kept. The redhead sniffed. The kid might be an ass, but at least his ma’s got good taste in dishware. The eggs were tinted blue in different spots with some spice or another and the bacon was covered in black pepper. She didn’t know much about cooking so she figured anything the terran downstairs made had to be edible somewhat, if not, she figured she’d still have enough in her to tear down the house before she croaked from poisoning.

She stirred the both of them into the grain meal and ate in between pulling her clothes on, but stopped when a shadow passed over the window. She blinked and looked around the now suddenly darkened room, and nearly stumbled over the table in the room. When she righted herself she dropped one hand to her trousers to pull them up from around her ankles while she half stumbled, half ran to the window to look outside.

When she got there, the mercenary dumped the rest of her meal hastily into her mouth, and forced herself to swallow roughly to contain her surprise. The sky was charged with Eversor’s darkness, and a hole in the sky was blotting out Caesar. After a spell of coughing from her breakfast and a swig of her coffee, Aelflead decided it might be a good idea to get downstairs and out of Terminus. The chaos she could already hear coming from outside sounded like perfect cover to leave under.

In moments, she had strapped her boots on, fastened her belt shut, tugged on a cut off blue tunic, pulled her cloak on, and stuck a sloppily tied leather strap around her hair.

A moment later, she heard screaming, and then the house was on fire.
