“Hurry up he says. Like this is going to be finished quickly,” Ewan muttered, trudging through what was left of the water, moving slowly to make sure not to splash any on any flesh. He quickly pulled off his coat threw it to Richard, rolling up his sleeves as he did so. His arms were slowly covered in metal and he reached the fairly large puncture.

Hmm, not too large thankfully. He took a step back and jumped up, ripping free a fragment of the same pipe Richard had used earlier. Gripping it in both hands he slowly moulded it into a large sphere and pressed it up against the wall, just above the breach.

“OK, now to move it over here.” Ewan slowly flattened the sphere, a metal tidal wave spreading out and then flowing down the wall. Now to fuse it with the wall. Licking his lips, the Welsh youth pressed his hands onto the slowly solidifying sheet of metal. All four of the edges suddenly seemingly melted into the wall before turning solid again.

“OK that ought to do it,” Ewan muttered, taking a step back, his arms returning to flesh, “Probably the most precise thing I’ve ever done with my powers.” He turned around and looked at Richard, who was already through the door.

“Oh fine, don’t wait or anything...” He quickly darted after the redhead.

As the beast became increasingly more frustrated with his lack of hull breaching, he began to pound even harder upon the facility deep below sea level. It bellowed, and screamed, and gurgled and roared and wrapped itself around several parts of the building, tightening its grip ever so more awkwardly.

Its hatred was reaching a boiling point, and so did the water around him. It became more poluted with every passing minute, became more poisonous and at times it even began to boil at a depth where that was practically starting to become impossible. It frantically smashed away at the mighty, man made construct preventing him from reaching his snacks.

Then, finally, its mouth opened wide and an acidic substance came oozing out onto the facility, beginning to melt through whatever dared to stand in its way.

[135/445]

The faint vibrations grew stronger and the entire atmosphere seemed to be full of a low rumble. A massively strong spiritual signature filled the air such that any potentiated human in the area would feel it’s terrifying force without any difficulty at all. In the belly of the Tokyo Bay facility, Richard Griffon-Jones was ducking and diving through the rabbit’s warren of passages. His feet carried him almost instinctively as the fainter but still distinctive energies of his fellow agents grew stronger.

Eventually Ewan and Richard came up alongside Aki and Chen, barely stopping to acknowledge either of them. The crimson haired, broad-shouldered Brit’s pale skin was flushed with the effort of charging through the facility. His keen blue-grey eyes assessed the oxygen tanks that Aki was carrying.

“Going out into the bay huh? Well I’d say that whatever’s out there might need to be removed from action before you can do what you need to do. We’ll tag along and help if we can.”

[165/1129]

Markus rushed through the facility towards the control room. It was imperative he get there and get things going and see things from an overview. He turned corners and ran through the hallways as he got closer. Grabbing the walls to brace himself as the whole building began to shake violently. He began to wonder what that was. Could it have been an explosion? What was strong enough to shake the very foundation of a building this size? That was going to have come later as he finally reached the main door to the control room.

Rapidly tapping on the control panel he put in the override control to get the door open but he was greeted with a buzz that told him it was not going to comply. He tried once more before he scowled in annoyance and stepped back. Reaching his arm out he mustered up his strength and power as he manifested a large weapon. He gripped the handle tightly as the head of the massive hammer hummed and rumbled with life. Exhaust pipes spit smoke into the air as the cooling fan in front of the hammer head spun to life. All in all, it resembled a combustion engine... on a stick. Reaching back he grabbed the handle with hands as he swung the weapon slamming the head into the door with all his mind.

The door cracked as the entire frame of the door shook as the resounding boom echoed out, but still the door did not open. Swinging back he slammed once more and instantly the bars holding the door in place nd locked shattered as the the massive steel door fell to the floor. With a small smirk he walked into the room and headed right for the main control panel. Setting the hammer to the side he began to rap his fingers against the keys as he brought up the monitor. Flipping a switch he turned the power on and immediately the room was lite with red flashing lights and the sirens began to sound. Warning signs was all he was getting.

“I know damn well there is an issue, dumb shit.” He said to the machines as he quickly turned the sounds and light off. “Now where are the problems? Show me girl.” Sifting through the data he was able to find the spots that were breached, but which was the initial breach? He was unable to tell which was the first point with everything that was going on. He noticed that one of the breaches had been sealed and he smiled again.

“Good, good, they have already begun work. Time to finish this.” Quickly he added in the transmitter positions to the computer system so he could overlay their positions in the facility to where the breaches were. Tapping on his communicator he called out to speak to his team.

“Team One, I see a breach thirty meters forward and to the left, room five one two.” He was assuming and just a bit hoping that sealing breaching would lead him to where it first started. “Team Two, your next location is to your right down the flight of stairs and ten meters to the left, room three six seven. I’ll keep trying to find the source.”

Further rumbling from the depths of the facility finally caught Chen’s attention. As far as he was concerned it was another product of the breach but it still gave him minor jitters. Continuing through the hall he shook it off as best he could.

With a brief stretch of his shoulders, Chen let go of the notion that he’d managed to trade a desk for the chance to lose a limb in his first field exercise. Just as he came out of his two-second breather the radio buzzed with Markus’ directions.

“Whitey didn’t even say ‘please’. Nobody in this city’s got any fucking manners.” Chen spat in as crude a manner as he could. Yelling something racist about a foreigner he’d just met clearly meant that he had things under control.

In complete disregard of his own inability to read room numbers, Chen made his way forward according to the directions. Other than possibly losing an arm or falling into a vat of acid he felt he had little to fear. On the other hand he was about to wander onto a flight of stairs while carrying some kind of steel barrel – a perilous journey which he trusted himself to ignore until it became an absolute emergency.

All at once, the lights dimmed. Another rumble shook the facility, and the soft glow of crimson alarm lights set a bloody coloration. Wading through knee-high water, Aki tried to reach higher ground. "What's going on?"

Then, a thunderous crash. The slapdash team members were thrown bodily into the reinforced steel walls of the facility. Groaning from where she'd smashed her head into a bit of loose piping, Aki hissed. "Fucking hell! Phillips, right? You and Eagle Eye here need to figure out what's going on. Surface is a short distance away, Richard and I can seal the breach."

Stumbling back up, she ignored the chill in her legs as she beckoned for the Chairman's partner to follow, but not before snatching the radio from Ewan's grasp. "Control room guy, my name is Sabishii Aki of Cerberus Corporation. I need you to find the source of the original breach, something at it may be furthering the damage. We're sending Phillips to check it out and the blind guy to keep him from getting in trouble. Okay? Awesome."

Not waiting for a response, she tossed the radio back to the Lieutenant and stolidly trucked down a set of stairs, until the water nearly reached her chest.

It was nice when someone finally took charge. Richard wasn’t used to a leadership role despite theoretically having been “born for it” and he was quite content to wade in after Aki. She seemed like a decidedly no-bullshit character without possessing Arano’s less positive personality traits. It was odd to think of them as siblings, somehow.

This, however, was no time for idle speculation. There was a job to do and not much time to do it. Whatever was out there would eventually break in unless the breach was sealed. The redheaded man didn’t really want to discover what it was, at least not up close and personal. So here he was, midriff deep in freezing water that was also quite possibly contaminated with all kinds of nasty. Sometimes he wondered why in the hell he ever joined this damnable corporation.

Aki didn't have a means to know if Ewan and Eagle Eye were in fact figuring out what the tremors were. All she knew was that the further in she got, the higher the water rose. Eventually, she was all but swimming, the water reaching up to her shoulders.

The wet was in her shoes and socks, incredibly uncomfortable and quickly rendering her toes numb. She hissed in pain as her bumbling feet stubbed against a piece of protruding metal. Finally, the crossroads. The floor beneath her, and the one she suspected to contain the primary breach, was entirely submerged.

The sound of rushing water was deafening in her ears, and she beckoned Richard closely. Staring at him through matted locks of blonde hair, she had to shout to hear herself. "Standard procedure! You get the left, I'll get the right!"

She didn't wait for confirmation, instead taking a single gulp of breath and plunging into the freezing wet of the Tokyo Bay.

Aki didn't expect the stinging. Her form shivered and flinched, the pain jabbing at her like needles... a little too much like needles. Oh Gods, the Apothecary..! A syringe scraped roughly against her left hip, already sensitive from the freezing water, and she had to bite down her gasp. Finally, through the dismal murk, she could glimpse an absolute curtain of black.

The breach!

More syringes scraped and jabbed at her, floating whimsically through the flooded chamber. Pulling herself along, Aki couldn't help the soft whimper that escaped as she felt a needle jab her spine. Desperately trying to focus past it, she brought the snare to bear, and twisted the cap she carried it by. Pulling at a small protrusion underneath the carrying handle - also part of the cap - it was revealed to be a small anchor!

The Senior Agent wrapped it firmly around the nearest bit of protruding metal, and twisted the cap the rest of the way. A great gust of air jarred her grip lightly, a great net ballooning outwards from the canister. Several buoys were tied to one end of the snare, and it quickly rose as much as possible before the anchor kept it underwater.

Then, a great black something moved past Aki. A great current swept past her, and her already loosened grip was relinquished entirely. Spilling out into the Bay itself, the young woman could only glimpse through the haze as she began the slow ascent to the surface of the Bay, and hope.

Keep me out of trouble my ass, Ewan bemoaned as he took a quick left and headed up some stairs. He didn’t look back to see if the blind guy was following him but the footsteps behind told him the guy was. How he was doing so was a mystery to Ewan.

Surface, surface. You’d think they’d put one bloody sign in this stupid facility. Taking a right, Ewan found himself at a slightly familiar location.

“I think we passed here on the way in,” he muttered, scratching his head and brushing his silver fringe from his eyes, “We went... that way...” He pointed left. “... so the way out is this way.” He darted right again and charged up more stairs until he finally saw sweet, beautiful daylight up ahead. Rushing out into it he looked around briefly. Annoyingly there was no sign of the supply crew he’d called earlier. He was just about to grab his phone from his pocket when he was drenched by a massive wave emerging from the bay.

“Great, just great.” He slicked his wet hair back over his head and jogged over to where the wave had come from. And stopped. All he could do was stare dumbly at the monster thrashing around in the water before him. Regaining his senses he raised his radio.

“Guys,” he squeaked, before coughing and continuing in a deeper voice, “Guys, I think I might need a bit of help with this one.”

This wasn't at all what he'd signed up for when he agreed to teach at the Academy. No one told him he'd ever dive into the freezing, polluted waters of Tokyo Bay to seal up a breach in the outer wall of the whole Cerberus facility there. Of course, there was also the small matter of the gigantic thing that was trying to get in. However, he managed to convince himself that he was doing this to help Zakki. He loved Zakki and it wasn't a stretch to say that he'd do anything for him. The things we do for love he thought as he began to dive into the darkness and the cold.

The water forced every muscle in his body to tighten. It was so cold and so...full of...things. He was scraped, rubbed and battered by the drifting debris. Richard didn't spend too long considering what it was that was touching him. There was pain to be sure but he focused on conserving his air. The solidly-built youth was a good swimmer and he drove himself towards the yawning gap that represented the other side of the breach.

Now he fumbled the snare he was carrying open and the anchor it contained was deployed. Working with hands that grew more numb by the moment, he managed to jam the anchor into a section of the torn and battered metal before activating the second stage of the snare and watching as it exploded upwards in a trail of bubbles as air was expelled. Once the lift bag and it's buoys had reached the surface, Richard began to push himself upwards towards the water's surface. If he hadn't been gifted with post-human abilities, he might well not have made it.

Now he was at the surface, spluttering, looking around for Aki. There was a massive, dark shape pushing up water in the direction of the base. He began to swim towards it, hoping his compatriot had made it up alright.

Coughing as she surfaced, Aki heaved in great breaths, desperate to refill her lungs. Then, a great trembling. The water of the Bay itself vibrated underneath her. It surged from below, before splitting wide to reveal the great hollow!

A serpentine mess, its sleek, draconian mask was disguised by the masses of tendrils which obscured the area about its head. Like a great, terrible mane, the appendages roiled and coursed as contaminated liquid dripped from them. Four stumpy legs supported it as it pulled itself onto the beach, limbs made of forgotten trash and bound together by the tainted energy of hollowkin.

Finally, as its full form was brought to bear, the beast's tail was revealed. Some heinous instrument scored with innumerable spikes of used syringes, pins, and other needles, it tapered into a mangled fin constructed of lost umbrellas, their handles cobbled together into a rusted spike at its tip. Jormungandr breathed deep of the fresh air, and gurgled with disgust.

Then, looking down upon its meals, it roared. The sound shook the very beach, great gouts of sand spraying up and outwards.

"Fan-fuckin-tastic." Chen muttered. The beast may have been all but invisible to him, but the familiar pressure of that malicious energy was enough for him to go on.

Ewan gave a low, "Tch!" before surging forward. That silvery gleam spread up his arms, almost invisible in the dim, hellish night that had visited Tokyo. His leap brought him a fair distance above the beast, and he aimed to end the threat in a single blow.

With surprising agility, the numerous tendrils lashed forwards, wrapping about the human.

Gagging slightly at the horrid stench of the entire beast, Ewan ground out a low remark, "Shit..! Chen!"

"The fuck you want me to do?" The blind man answered back, but was nonetheless moving. His mind was locked on the last location he'd heard the Lieutenant's voice. Grunting, his own leap was significantly less impressive, but powerful nonetheless.

Aki, heaving herself onto the beach, quickly turned to witness the act before cursing. Dashing forwards, the water itself seemed unperturbed by her, and she skimmed atop it like a skipping stone! Chen's leap was roughly as productive as Ewan's, and quickly he was entangled in the mane of appendages as well.

"Nice job Lieutenant. No, really." He remarked, trying not to choke on the mire that pervaded his nose.

Ewan growled back, struggling to free himself. "Oh shut up would you?"

"Feh, if we're gonna do this, may as well do it right."

"What..?" Ewan regarded the man with some manner of bafflement. "We need to get free, first!"

A slow grin spread across the blind man's face, and he managed to break a single arm free. The appendages appeared to be bringing them closer to the mask, not that Chen could see, but he knew enough movies to know how tentacles usually worked. Usually, and he preferred to not think of the alternatives.

Meanwhile, Richard had surfaced as well, gaping at the monstrosity currently being fought ashore. Immediately, he began swimming for the beach. A low, booming sound echoed in his ears once, and he looked to see the beast shaking its head, staggering backwards.

Laughing raucously, Chen swore at the beast in several flavors of Cantonese as it reeled back. "Go on Lieutenant, take your shot!"

Shaking his head and steeling himself, Ewan felt his arms slip into their liquid state ever-so-briefly. Then, they coalesced, razor-sharp blades where his hands once were. In a flurry he didn't know he was capable of, he'd sliced his way free. On instinct, he kicked out, his foot striking against the air and sending him forward!

His own strength swelled, arms reforming once more into some contemporary of a sledgehammer. Then, he drove his arms forward. Crashing against the rotten mass that swelled on the edges of the mask, holding it in place. A thin, razor-crack appeared at the edges of the draconian thing, and Jormungandr bellowed with the pain. Flailing, dying, shrieking, it threw the pair of Orpheus agents loose and reared upwards.

With surprising balance, the pointed maw of the beast split into three, opening like a flower in bloom. Globules of power began to coalesce, and Ewan swore. "We need to move..!"

No time, the Cero unleashed as quickly as it formed. With a low rumble followed by a keening screech, the beam lurched forwards. Murky black and viscous red swirled together in the malice of Jormungandr's power, and it struck the beach beneath Ewan and Chen's feet.

In a blinding flash, Ewan's vision disappeared. Chen's balance was torn from him, the world heaving upwards from underneath him as searing heat radiated along his left side. When they finally regained their senses, an entire portion of the beach was already beginning to refill, and the hollow roared with fresh pain and fury.

Glass lined the massive crater where the Cero had struck, massive portions of sand erased entirely. Coughing, the silver-haired man rose quickly. Atop Jormungandr's back, Aki clung to it like a rider to a frenzied bull. The hollow bucked, as the young woman slowly made her way to the edge of its mane.

Seizing the opportunity, Richard hauled himself ashore and made for a similar approach. His energy gathered and rose, a palpable outline of power emanating from his form. He threw a hand forward, and a viscous liquid lanced towards the hollow, a process he repeated thrice more.

The liquid hissed and sizzled where it struck, remaining stubbornly stuck to the rotten mass that made up the beast's hide. Another bellow accompanied the attack, and with a great heave, Jormungandr's form lurched sideways. Its great, serpentine tail struck against Richard solidly, eliciting a gasp of pain.

Rolling to a stop before pulling himself up, he took several steadying breaths. A number of needles stuck from the point of impact, and he did his best to begin removing them as he gave the hollow a wider berth.

Breathing heavily, Aki could feel her teeth begin to chatter from the cold of the Bay. She seized a pair of the tendrils, effortlessly dragging them back along Jormungandr's form. Then, when she'd brought them a fair enough distance back, her own power flared. Stitches raced along her face and arms, swirling down to her fingertips before spilling onto the tendrils. A moment later, both were rooted firmly to the surface of the hollow's hide.

Wiping water from her eyes, she felt the hollow lurch, preparing to roll! Cursing, she crouched low, stitches glowing a radiant white as she adhered to the beast's back. Jormungandr flailed and lashed about, slowly ruining the remainder of the beach. Another howling roar, the low whine of Cero being unleashed.

The beam went awry, lurching skywards and clipping a building but a short distance from the beach. Cursing, Aki heedlessly went back to her work. Pulling back the hollow's 'mane' to clear a path for the others.

Richard, spurred and now needle-free, continued to pepper the dying beast with the corrosive substance of his Potentiation.

Ewan waited, Chen didn't. Grunting, the Chinese man leapt forward time and again. Each time, the tendrils found purchase on him, and each time they were rebuffed by something. His power was indiscernable, strangely miniscule yet enough to batter back the Adjuchas' defenses.

Finally, enough of a window had been made. Aki called down to the trio. "Hit it now! This is our only shot!"

Lurching forward, she was caught unawares by the sudden shift of the beast. Thrown from its back, she landed a short distance away. Regaining her bearings in time to glance up and witness Ewan, Chen, and Richard each moving for the definitive blow. The single hair-line crack in Jormungandr's mask had spider-webbed, a sign of the hollow's failing vitality.

The remaining tendrils made to capture its prey, and Chen laughed at them. With a crashing boom he slammed his fist into one, the congruent mass blasted backwards. The hollow's mask split wide, ready to unleash hellfire a third time. Richard's aim was truer than that, a glob of acidic ooze slamming into the open maw.

Shrieking, the beast could not, would not, protect itself from the Lieutenant. Arm reformed into some amalgamation of a piston, Ewan slammed his fist into the already-damaged mask. A low hiss emanated as the piston opened... and then the hollow's cries were cut short, the piston slamming shut.

The mask shattered instantly, buckling under The Iron Hand's power. Tumbling back to the sands below, the team watched the beast fall, rotten mass falling apart with no presence to hold it together. The parasite that was Jormungandr was no more, and the breach had been contained.

Now they just had to pick up the pieces.
