Feat and Special Technique Submissions

Feats are a means of showing a character's unique growth as an individual. Some are unique to your character while others are shared with people of a similar skillset, comrades in your guild, or your closest allies. Every character starts with a Personal Feat, and other feats are unlocked over time through growth or merit.

The Repository shows all currently-approved techniques and feats, to kickstart some ideas for you or help you figure out the numbers.

Personal Feats are abilities or traits that have been acquired throughout a person's life. This can be a technique passed down in the character's family, unique traits resulting from events in the character's past, natural talent in a particular area, or other things that represent the character's life. It is not required to write the acquisition of a personal feat, though it is encouraged. A personal feat should be simple to understand, and may include drawbacks for the character. A character in Post Terminus begins with a single Personal Feat to be submitted to staff. Personal Feats can only be changed under limited circumstances at the discretion of Feat Staff.
Trained Feats are abilities that can be learned after meeting certain requirements, sometimes involving learning from a teacher or undergoing special training, in written chapters or collabs. A trained feat falls under the strength relative to Magnum abilities. Once a player has posted their training collaboration, both their grader (and their teacher, as applicable) are responsible for determining if the effort is genuine enough to merit them learning the feat. In the event of failing to learn a feat, a player may attempt again as long as they meet the requirements. A character in Post Terminus obtains up to two Trained Feats to be submitted to staff or chosen from approved Trained Feats. These feat slots are obtained by a character reaching Notable Esteem (3,000 Vigor) and Prominent Esteem (10,000 Vigor).
Style Feats are an extension of Trained Feats, with a Style Feat composed of multiple techniques under a single feat slot. A Style Feat technique sits around the same level as a Trained Feat in terms of power. A regular trained feat may fill the style feat slot if desired. The same rules for learning a Trained Feat apply to Style Feats. A character in Post Terminus obtains up to two Style Feats to be submitted to staff or chosen from approved Style Feats. These feat slots are obtained by a character reaching Renowned Esteem (30,000 Vigor) and Exalted Esteem (60,000 Vigor).
Unique Feats are abilities granted to a single character, utterly unique to them. The strength of a Unique Feat is nebulous, and depends largely on the character. Once the feat slot has been acquired, a player is under no obligation to justify the training/learning of their unique feat to their grader, but it is encouraged to write the acquisition and learning of the feat in-game. A character in Post Terminus obtains a single Unique Feat to be submitted to staff. This Feat Slot is acquired upon reaching one of the following milestones:

  • Master tier in any skill
  • Skilled tier in any three magic or combat skills
  • Ultimum level release.
  • Other Notable deeds, which can vary from character to character. GMs will typically award at least one Unique Feat for actions during each Plot Mission arc, and may award them at their own discretion at any other time, but you may also submit events yourself to a GM for consideration.
Check with a GM whether you qualify before submitting a Unique Feat.

Minion Feats are for characters following one of the Overseer's Callings. These are special abilities, indicative of just some of the many differences between different beasts, machines, and magical beings. If multiple Minion Feats are approved for the same type (for example, a spider with one to spit webs and one to inflict poison), you may only choose one, or submit a different one. Minion Feats are comparable to Trained Feats in strength. A character in Post Terminus obtains one Minion Feat for each Calling skill which reaches Adept Tier, to be submitted to Feat Staff or chosen from approved Minion Feats for their minion. If the minion itself changes, the player may submit or choose a new Minion Feat.
Guild Techniques are abilities taught within a guild. They are shared by members of the Guild, and in some cases, the Guildmaster may restrict access to certain techniques until the character reaches a particular rank or standing. A Guild Technique is typically no stronger than a Trained Feat in terms of power. Upon leaving or being expelled from a Guild, the techniques are lost. At the time of leaving, a character may keep Guild Techniques by using a Feat Slot for each. A character in Post Terminus is eligible for all Guild Techniques available when joining a Guild. The Guildmaster may put additional restrictions.
Fated Alliance is the crystallization of real, unconditional camaraderie. It is a rarity that comes only to those true of heart. Allies that have attained such a legendary bond are said to be inseparable and unbreakable. Their familiarity with one another allows them to achieve levels of skill that far exceed what either could do alone. Fated Alliance emphasizes the power of invincible bonds, allowing indivisible comrades to combine their efforts into a singular, unique, and synergistic skill.

To submit a Fated Alliance technique, two players must write a collab of at least 10,000 words that explores or encapsulates the bond between the two PCs who will be forming the alliance. To count, this collab may not feature additional PCs. The players may then submit a single tandem ability to Feat staff. This ability is tied to the two specific characters upon submission, and can be used when both characters are present. It is similar in strength to an Ultimum Ability.

A character may form multiple Fated Alliances, each with a different player and PC. A Fated Alliance cannot be formed between two PCs written by the same player, or between a PC and an NPC.

Please select the appropriate link to add a submission.

User name: Bat Cthulhu

Name: Stock Options
Alternate Names: Charity Case, Middle Management

Calling: Daemonium

Minion Type: Elder Demon

Description:
Cassius is a rarity among Daemon summoners. Rather than force a contract upon a demon, the demon was the one that made the ultimatum. Join or Die. Cassius chose to join, and now is the bound servant of the demon known as Ego. While this comes at great cost, Ego has granted Cassius some measure of power in order to help ensure his pawn doesn’t immediately die.

Effect:
Cassius loses access to Summon Daemon, and instead is given a random demon at the start of any arc or collaboration. He has no choice in what size or shape the demon is. If that demon is destroyed or Cassius needs to dismiss it , he must pay 20% of his vigor and will be given a new random demon. This can only be done once per collaboration or chapter. None of these random demons have their own reprisal, but are other treated as being summoned by the Summon Daemon spell. They are, however, unchecked by physical restraints, and retain full dexterity and range of motion.

Denied. It's the last line that kills it. Releasing bindings (and allowing daemons become tanks/berserkers as well as spellcasters) is a high-level ability. Using an Adept trait to unlock that early, and permanently, is too powerful.

Approved with changes. Replace the once-per-week restriction with once per tier of Daemonium. At Adept tier, you would be able to use it twice, at Skilled, three times, etc.

Description:
From his earliest childhood on a sense for right and wrong as well as discipline and order were taught to Yasuke. On the one side were his parents who strongly emphasised these traits in their upbringing, on the other side was the harsh environment of his home that made these same traits necessary for survival. It makes out one of the very foundations of his personality. You could easily go as far and describe Yasuke as righteous.

Effect:
The righteousness is deeply anchored in Yasuke's personality. Mental attacks that go against it and try to turn Yasuke are greatly weakened (by 2 tiers).

Description:
Through a natural fervor and years of endurance, Micali has the ability to momentarily block out pain. Typically brought on by a burst of emotion or a moment of desperation, she can focus so heavily on one objective that she feels nothing. However, this does not exempt her from the effects of said injuries: while Micali may power through pain for short times, she still suffers the repercussions of injury.

Effect:
Once per thread, when using 'Adrenaline Rush,' Micali may temporarily block out pain for that turn, working through any physical injuries she has, barring incapacitation.

I think I'll decline this one, not because it's too strong, but because it's actually already available on a path Micali's on: tier 2 of unarmed gives a similar effect with more uses.

Approved. Sorry for the delay, I didn't see the notification on this one.

Name: [Dual Cast]
Alternate Names:

Acquisition:
Character must spend at least two collabs or chapters casting spells and studying them. A total of 35 spells between the two chapters or collabs must be cast in order to qualify.

Description:
All spells have similarities. Words and phrases that match up. Gestures that can be part of multiple spells. [Dual Cast] helps you find those "symmetry points," usually through brute force. Spells are ingrained into the body and mind until the trainee sees them instinctively. What was once trees of spells becomes a giant web, where everything is connected.

Effect:
A caster with [Dual Cast] can cast two somatic or two vocal spells in the same turn as long as one spell is at least one tier lower than the other. The second spell, being somewhat rushed, is done at one magnitude less than the first.

Effect:
Normally, a magic-user may cast up to two spells per round as long as one is somatic and one is verbal. A magic-user with [Dual Cast] can cast up to two spells per round, even if both spells are somatic or both spells are verbal. At least one of the Dual Casted spells must be Intrinsic. Two rounds must pass before this ability can be used again.

Removed the magnitude penalty, but added a short cooldown. Also added a caveat that at least one spell must be Intrinsic.

Minion Tech Name: Maw of Moron
Alternate Names:

Calling: Daemonium

Minion Type: Loon Demon

Description:
A certain frame of mind made manifest through words. By speaking in a certain manner, the demon can unleash some of its confusion into others. It covers the mind of anyone that hears the words with a heavy fog, making it difficult and painful to concentrate.

Exposure to this dulling fog does cause a temporary resistance to further effects.

Effect:
By allowing the demon to speak its cursed words, everyone that can hear the words will be affected by a dulling fog. The duration starts at 2 turns and increases by 1 for each skill level in Daemonium. Those under its effect find it difficult to concentrate and suffer headaches. Cooldowns do not decrease and the person is limited to 2 or less expenditure of vigor during that time.

The master of the demon remains unaffected. This is not through any innate protection but a built up tolerance from constant contact.

This effect can only happen to people once per combat.

Approved with changes. Removing the scaling with Daemonium, the per-fight restrictions, and its preventing new abilities from being used. Adding a cost, a range. Per the revision, there's no maximum duration, it can stall cooldowns for as long as the cost is paid each round. It is susceptible to protections against mental effects, but all-or-nothing. For instance, if your magnitude is 2 and the target innately resists 1 tier, they will still be affected by MOM. If they use something to resist 2 tiers of magnitude, though, they will be immune to the effects.

This ability costs 500 Vigor per round and affects targets within audible range, approximately 30m with no amplifying or dampening circumstances. Maw of Moron is considered a mental effect with magnitude equal to the Overseer's skill in Daemonium. Partial resistance offers no protection: the effect must be fully resisted or the targets will be affected normally. The loon may not use other abilities at the same time as Maw of Moron.

As a personal feat, a bit too much. Using techs from one other skill tree is more in line -- for example, Aelflead's personal feat allows her to use Barbaris techs while unarmed. Keep in mind which techs are already available cross-skill when deciding, also.

User: Kaizaell Songe

Description:
Kaizaell, growing up in the harsh and dangerous environment of the Southern Wastes, has adapted to the cold environment. This affords him a fair level of comfort when in an environment most would call frigid. However, having grown up surrounded by cold and snow, he struggles in hot environments, making him more likely to collapse since his body isn't able to take much in the way of heat stressers.

Effect:
Kaizaell gains resistance to the cold and cold damage, lowering the magnitude of them by 2. However, this increases the magnitude of heat based attacks by 2.

Approved with a slightly different drawback.

Effect:
Kaizaell gains resistance to the cold and cold damage, lowering the magnitude of them by 2. However, heat saps his endurance at a rate of 100 Vigor per tier of magnitude.

Adding two tiers of magnitude to attacks could elevate them to lethal. The drawback also isn't entirely necessary, so this is a relatively minor variation that adds to the character without becoming a severe liability.

User name: Keydis Lysistrata

Unique Feat Name: Ante Omnia Armari
Alternate Names: Walking Armory

User: Keydis Lysistrata

Acquisition:
With hammer unrelenting, battering, shaping, reinventing
With forge unforgiving, stoking fire ever hotter, metal glowing ever brighter
Folding, hammering, releasing the impurities
Until all that's left is its greatest form

Just like the blade, one cannot form unless the fire's stoked
Unless the hammer's brought down hard, and one's true mettle tested

We all are blades in the forge, and life our swordsmith

All the time that Keydis has spent in dogged pursuit of her craft, her body has been forged into its peak physical form. She's able to do more, last longer, endure more. She never knew when to quit, and now her body can just about keep up with her spirit.

Description:
Ante Omnia Armari... "Before all else, be armed." Keydis is a walking armory, equipped with armor, a number of weapons, and various tools of her trade, and yet she carries her burdens with ease. She moves and fights with no less ferocity or agility, instinctively shifting her body along with the weight and trusting in the endurance she's built up through countless hours of beating metal into submission. Drawing or stowing her gear is effortless, barely a break in the beating rhythm of her movements.

Effect:
Keydis suffers no drawbacks from encumbrance for wearing heavier armors or carrying many weapons on her person, and can quickly change weapons from among her equipment, even between attacks.

User: Micali Alsara

Description:
Raised in a criminal organization, Micali’s youth was spent striving for a hand that would kill without question, without hesitation. The skills therein followed her even after she abandoned that path. In battle, whether instinct or calculation guide her hand, Micali always finds her ammunition with near-inhuman precision. Either specially crafted arrows, or enchanted terra regia bullets, she can reach for the exact projectile needed for a situation without even a second thought.

Effect:
So long as Micali has different types of ammunition to choose from for a ranged weapon she is currently using, she may swap between them at any time - even during a fight.
