Harper
Appearance
[Under construction]
Personality
Harper has a rather dry personality and tends to be standoffish. Despite his seemingly tough exterior and unwillingness to openly express care or affection for others, the spurii does have an innate desire to help others and be kind. Harper does his best to mask his kindness with a distant attitude or, when he feels embarrassed, backhanded compliments and sharp words. Interacting with others is often a struggle for Harper as he is reluctant to be forthcoming or make obvious attempts to establish new relationships. He fares much better in work relationships because it provides context for having a cool rapport with others. Harper is, in short, a jerk with a heart of gold.
History
When Harper was young, his father died. His uncle, blinded by grief, blamed Harper for the death of his brother and took his anger out on the child in a fit of rage fueled by his anti-spurii sentiments. Harper, being young and recently bereft of his father, became frightened and ran away. He traveled alone, subsisting on what he could get by begging with only hallucinations for company. Many were hesitant to help the boy beyond giving him scraps or a few exa because of his mixed heritage and tendency to talk to the hallucination of his father.
Fortunately for Harper, an enlil woman named Jacinth found him and took him in. She cared for Harper despite discrimination she faced in the small town for adopting a mixed child. Guilt-ridden by the increasing hostilities against his caregiver, Harper ran away about (insert time here) later.
The next person to take Harper in was not so kind. A man by the name of Mr. Molli offered Harper shelter and food in exchange for his services. Under Mr. Molli, Harper was involved in illicit activities including assisting with robberies, fighting rings, and transporting illicit contraband. Though he did not like this work, Harper was essentially trapped. Mr. Molli ensured Harper would never be strong enough or have enough money to escape on his own. He grew up to be a reticent young man with few qualms about law breaking, but he was unable to become truly uncaring and manipulative like his boss.
Harper took the first chance he could at escaping Molli when he met Ignis of Animi. He fed her an exaggerated tale about his working conditions, telling her he was a slave, in order to gain her sympathies and assistance in leaving Boreas. His plan was not well thought out and did not fool the young enlil woman for long, but she did help him escape in the end.
Harper stayed with Ignis for a while, but they were separated during the 500 P.T Nocte Nils. He found a job working at a pub in Lupanar District where he discovered an underground fighting ring. Entangled in his employer's schemes, he entered a game of cat and mouse when they retrieved Ignis and used her bounty to blackmail him into compliance. Eden, the spurii he worked for, however, was a paranoid and nearly cruel woman who had a grudge against purebloods. He and Ignis were separated once again during the 501 P.T Nocte Nils when Eden sent them to gather information on rumors.
Following a failed attempt to steal a treaty from the Specula Sorcere, Harper returned to Igne Ebrius, the pub. But without Ignis being threatened, there was no motivation for the spurii to stay. He left to seek out a better life elsewhere with more legal work and better employers. Unfortunately, his infamy made finding a job and leaving the city rather difficult. Harper escaped Terminus through a gate on the southwestern part of the city, but the guards tenaciously pursued him through the woods for weeks until they cornered him at the Sea of Occidens. Rather than face capture, Harper leaped into the waters.
Some three or four days later, Harper washed up on the shores of Aridus. From there, he made his way to Concha Litus to resume his quest for building a more peaceful life.
