Kaizaell is dedicated, he has a goal that he will achieve and is willing to go to great lengths to do so. He’s sought out opportunities to find out what happened to his family, but he hasn’t found any clues so far which frustrates him to no end.

To those nearby he seems an upbeat kid with a smile always on his lips. He always has something to say, which has gotten him in trouble with the officers in the Army on more than one occasion. He enjoys magic, begging his mother to teach him when he was younger, and has learned a few tricks to help him. He’s fairly adept with a rifle, even so far as getting assigned to one of the few Sniper squads within the military. This has afforded him some leeway with the officers.

The young man has a soft spot for children, and is always willing to help out any kids he finds.​

Physical Appearance:

Kaizaell is a scrawny looking young Laicar. He has no facial hair to speak of, partially from the military lifestyle and partially because he can only grow a splotchy horror show of a beard if he lets it grow out. He keeps himself well groomed and takes pride in the neatness of his clothing and grooming when out in public. His hair is a dark brown color and he keeps it in a high-and-tight style, almost gone on the sides and only a few inches long on the top, despite some of the Sniper regiment allowing their members to grow their hair out longer and take less care of their uniforms.

He has hazel green eyes that sometimes make him look older than he should, but most of the time sparkle as if some unspoken joke is just about to burst forth. His skin is a pale color, almost looking pallid in a well lit setting. It has led to jokes about him being some type of Reaper, but he just shrugs it off.

He wears little jewelry, save for a plain silver earring from his mother for his coming of age and a pendant with a picture of his parents and older sister in it.​

Biography:

In all honesty, Kaizaell’s childhood was unremarkable. Their family lived in the Southern Wastes, alongside about a dozen other families. His parents taught him and his sister, Eryka, how to survive within the barren lands. They learned weapons skills and magic, but other than that their life was very ordinary. Then, one night, something happened. When Kaizaell woke up in the morning his sister, his parents and all the other adults had disappeared, leaving the kids behind.

A month passed and a merchant found the village almost entirely abandoned. A handful of children, some of them almost gone feral, were found within the great hut at the center of the town. The news spread quickly as the children were taken back to the main continent to be sent to their respective families and an investigation was launched.

Kaizaell, having no immediate family that he knew of outside of his parents and sister, was taken to an orphanage. There he proved to be an inquisitive sort. He wanted to find out what happened and so, at the age of 15 took on a soldiers life to try and earn some coin and find out what happened to his family.​

The white expanse spread before him, the cold chill wind caressing his face lightly like a lover's hands as it skipped briskly past him. The dark haired boy shivered slightly in reaction, though he felt not the cold nor the glaring whiteness around him.


The young boy turned and began walking back towards his home, the one he hadn’t seen in so, so long.


I’m dreaming, the boy thought idly for a moment before it slipped from him, like sand through his fingers. It’s always this dream.


The young man found himself back at the village in what seemed the blink of an eye, even though he knew it had taken him nearly a day to return. He’d gone out far, trying to find something to hunt for his family in the Wastes. Trying to find food for his sister and his parents and, like always, coming back empty handed.


He was so young, too young to go out hunting, his father always said. But he’d gone out anyway, wanting to find something for his sister on her birthday. She’d just reached her Age of Majority and that was always cause for celebration amongst the families that populated this place. Everyone celebrated together, everyone suffered together, the community either succeeded or failed together.


It was survival.


“Kaizaell!” a man’s voice called from nearby, a voice instantly recognizable to the unconscious memories of the boy that was viewing them again.


The boy turned to see his father, a light skinned Laicar with dark black hair and the silver streaks of age showing the only signs of old age in him. The man smiled at him, holding up a trio of Tordax, a strange rabbit like creature native to the Southern Wastes. It’s pelt was littered with pieces of metals that seemed to grow out of it’s skin displacing some of the fur. These creatures ate metal and stone and some of the Hunters were forced to keep their populations in check, lest they eat at some of the villagers’ homes. If you cut around the metal the meat was edible, if stringy. Mother always made an excellent soup out of them.


No, the young man’s voice whispered again at the edge of consciousness. Not again. Not this dream again.


“Eryka’s birthday dinner is tonight,” the boys father said, his grin lighting up his silver colored eyes. That happened sometimes, when one ate too many Tordax. The metals would end up changing the eyes first, then burrs would grow on the bones, causing pain and, if left untreated from Gensi-leaf, break through the skin and create the same metallic growths that the Tordax had. “I caught her favorite, did you catch anything son?”


The boy sighed, then held up his catch, a pair of Krendish from his Ice-fishing on his way home. The man looked over his catch, a smile spreading across his face as he held his hand out and rubbed his son’s hair.


“Well done,” the man said with a proud smile. “I’m sure she’ll be happy to add some fish to her supper!”


The man began walking back towards their home, carrying not only the Tordax but the Krendish with him. The boy sighed, then dug in his pocket. He’d also found a strange flinthead made of a strange bronze colored stone. He’d wanted to keep this secret from his father, though he could no longer remember why. He grinned, then tucked it back into his pocket and ran towards the door to their home.


He’d never given it to his sister that night, had he?


And he’d forgotten what had happened to the stone during the long cold after, hadn’t he?

“Wake up, Kai,” another voice called out to him. He rolled again, feeling the warmth of the blankets wrapped up around him. “Oh, no you don’t, come on! Up! UP!”


Something stole away the warmth of the blanket around him and the dark haired youth groaned as he rolled up, blearily wiping away the sleep from his eyes. He looked up to see his partner, an Enlil named Caniir Decidus, staring down at him with her eerie looking golden hawk eyes. She cocked her head at what the Laicar would have thought was a painful angle, then turned and walked towards the entrance to their shared Tent.


“We need to get up now,” the Enlil said, her sage colored feathers bristling in the wind of the last part of night. “It’s our turn to take over our watch from Reginus.”


“Yeah, yeah,” the young man said with a yawn. He tried to act surly, but couldn’t quite manage it. This was wartime, so they had to follow orders.


Besides, if he’d kept dreaming he would have had to see his family disappear like morning mist all over again.


He still didn’t know what had happened to them, or why they and all the others had left the kids there to fend for themselves all alone on that cold Tundra. But one day Kaizaell would find out why that had happened.


“Come on,” the excitable little Enlil said, strutting ahead a bit in excitement. She was still very new to the military life, but she’d been assigned to be the dark haired young man’s spotter. “I’m sure Reginus is more than ready for a bit more sleep.”


“Sure,” the young Laicar mumbled. The chill of this night wasn’t as cold as his home, but compared to the warmth of the blanket he’d left behind it was like a frozen wasteland all over again. “Who even thought up these Watch shifts anyway?”


“Captain Traegon did,” Caniir said, looking back at him at another unnatural angle while his body stayed at the same angle and continued moving forwards.


“Of course he did,” the dark haired man said with a sigh. “Hey, watch where you’re going. You know how fragile your damn bones can be and I don’t want to carry you back after coming out all this way.”


“Like that'll ever happen,” the young Enlil said with a smile, showing off her unnerving sharpened fangs. The hazel eyed man stopped a shudder, it’d be rude. These were still the after-effects of growing up in a place only the Laicar were mad enough to inhabit anyway. “Come on Kai!”


The young woman ran ahead, her head turning back to its original position of looking forwards as she ran to meet the men they’d be swapping out with for the night. The pale young man sighed again, then followed closely behind. Once camp officially woke up they’d be replaced and he’d be able to get some chow, and maybe even some coffee, he still had some beans in his rucksack after all.


With a small grin the young man made his way after the excitable Enlil, trying to catch up to her quick pace.

Howdy. I have looked over your app, and it's good. I like the mystery put forth in the history of your character. Kind of Shade's Children-esque. I guess Kaizaell's sister is much older than him to also disappear with the adults. The persona is good. You would think at least four years of a military lifestyle would bulk Kaizaell up a bit from scrawny, though. I like the description of his splotchy beard if he had one.

The chapter was fine. The dream shows how much the event tugs at Kaizaell all the time. The tordax's are strange little creatures. In the first sentence, perhaps the word lovers' hand would be better as lover's hand. Lovers' hand means there are multiple lovers, not as romantic.

The part afterwards is also interesting. There's something going on, and Kaizaell is in the middle of things. Maybe it'll become more than just changing watch every so often? Hmm?

A solid application with an interesting back story with lots of ways to expand. It's good.
