Looks great to me, the first one in particular.
If you don't mind me saying, though, the blur on the mask for the first logo seems a bit unnecessary. I don't really know much about designing logos or anything, but I just think it might look a bit cooler with sharper edges to it.
That being said this looks really nice and it's awesome that you took the time to make something like this for us.

Wow, looks amazing to me. As for the second one, I noticed a few things as well, hope you don't mind me sharing:
Might want to properly shade the edges of the M to the black background, the grey-ish shade that's already there is visibly noticeable.
There are missing pixels (probably where the fade of the circle ended from the first one) that should be filled in.
The mask cuts out rather suddenly behind the M. It might help a bit to have it either fade out or not even appear behind the M.
The contrast of the total black background might be better offset with a dash of lighter tones with a gradient or wave line (I can't really describe that effect as anything other than what your Playstation 3 or PSP homepage looks like when you boot it up).

both were ruff test images. just to kinda get a feel for what was wanted/ liked. let me know what you guys are thinking and i'll go from there

It's an overall more aggressive theme than what I tend to think of for mangaden, especially considering how soft the new blog is. Vizards and jerkoff mean characters usually take a smaller role in the RP than the "good guys."
If you're looking for a logo, the most iconic character of HD is probably Sayis. Thus if you can encapsulate him, I think you'd do a more solid job of properly representing the forum.
(The vizard image is still good, but that would be an alternate logo for me)

If this is a site logo, I would want something more cheerful. And even though we're very bleach oriented right now, I think having a more general manga logo would be nice since we're trying to be a general manga site.
Don't get me wrong, the current one looks really spiffy and thank you a lot for making it.

I think, more than Bleach we are about writing.
I'm really liking the M in this logo and would like to see something incorporating that. Does anyone have a good idea or image that might represent writing and would go well with that?

What about a quill and a scroll/parchment?
Have them like in an 'X' shape overlapping each other, and then the M over that?
Or maybe have the icon itself be a withered down, ancient scroll/parchment with the M in the middle?
I agree with Alexis here that we should probably have a different colour than red, though - might I suggest Rose Ebony? (hex code = #674846)

Save for the white blur in the middle, I kind of like the first one.
If I may, though, I was more thinking along the lines of: http://hogwartsrpg.wikia.com/wiki/File:Decorative_parchment.jpg when speaking of parchments.
