Trudging through the desolate quarry, a lone figure grimaced beneath the blinding spotlights surrounding the pit. Stooping low, Masato Fujikawa ran a gloved hand along the dusty substrate at his feet, grabbing a fistful of the pale limestone and letting it fall between his fingers.

This place was nothing but a wound; a grim reminder of the responsibilities they carried, and what happened if they failed. The organizers of the Shinigami's Grand Tournament of course, saw things differently, believing the battle that took place here was a show of cooperation and camaraderie between Earth and Soul Society.

Masato could only see the scars.

Rising to his feet, the gunslinger reached into his pocket, retrieving a small vial of sanguine fluid. He didn't know what it contained, but the Shinigami had insisted it would heal his wounds in time for his next bout. Popping the cork off with his thumb, the agent took a whiff of the pungent liquid.

"Blood," he mused, sloshing it around in the decanter. "It smells like blood."

Throwing caution to the wind, the agent tossed the concoction back, cringing as it went down with a burn that would rival alcohol of the highest proof. Dropping the vial, the gunslinger grunted with discomfort as the healing brew went to work mending his wounds.

Sighing deeply as the sensation passed, thankful to be able to breathe freely once more, Masato turned his gaze to the edge of the quarry, where a familiar presence tugged at the edges of his perception.

"Nostalgic, isn't it?"

The grey-haired Soutaichou calmly walked across the gravel. Still without his haori, Sayis actually had his kosode tied in the front, although it still wasn't tucked into his hakama. While his left arm remained sleeveless, it was far from bare: black bands ran from wrist to the bottom of his bicep, covering nearly the entirety of his signature tattoo. The mitsudomoe at its core remained visible, though.

The sleeve on Sayis' right side was empty, though. His right arm lay folded inside his kosode, his hand hanging out loosely where Masato could see the bandages wrapping tightly around Sayis' wrist.

"You and I may have a different definition of 'nostalgic,'" Sayis remarked absently as he looked upward, toward the rooftop of a nearby tower where he had gone to battle Eve, 'Lila Kaiserin,' after lending assistance to the battle against the Pale Horse. One of the many scars in his abdomen quivered at the memory of the crazed Quincy's world-rending bolts.

Turning to Masato curiously, Sayis raised one scar-notched eyebrow. "Were you there..?" Pondering, he thought back to when he had released Bankai, trying to remember... "Ah, right: Masato Fujikawa. I was initially confusing you with your superior, Aragon Tenbanto." He did not ask about the other man's whereabouts. In truth, he remembered very little of the battle, consumed as it was in chaos, and with the pressing matter of Eve to deal with.

"Forgive me if I'm jumping the gun," Sayis remarked, weakly waving with the fingers of his right hand, "but I just need to level the field a bit. Mitsu, hitotsu." A translucent teal sword materialized in the air and a glowing arm formed to grab it. Shouaku Jukutatsu pulsed idly, holding the sword at the ready. The arm projected from his right shoulder, seemingly the same length as his incapacitated flesh-and-blood one.

Bowing respectfully, Sayis met Masato's eyes and calmly waited.

At the edge of the quarry, a crowd had gathered. The respected leaders of two factions - one, the determined General of the Initiative Orpheus. The other, the brilliant Soutaichou of the Gotei Thirteen.

With the utterance of 'Mitsu' and 'Hitotsu', a cry went up from the black-garbed shinigami amongst the audience. Mutterings about the Arcanist's signature went through the crowd as they quickly hushed, eagerly awaiting the rebuttal of the General.

Though out-numbered, those amongst the Orpheus bystanders more than made up for numbers with rowdiness. Loud and proud, the mere entrance of their leader had provoked a sudden rush of cheers and raucous whoops.

Amongst this odd assortment, a single form remained unaffiliated with either. Clad in black raincoat even in the scorching Summer weather, Arano's mismatched eyes of red and blue gazed passively to both combatants. Brushing the bangs of his black-dyed hair out of his eyes, he awaited the beginning of the true test.

Mouko sat near him, onyx hair tied back in its usual ponytail as her matching eyes danced with an almost imperceptible amber glow. She kept her hand firmly entangled with Arano's, her presence soothing the tension in his shoulders slightly.

Many had come to spectate, Arano had come to decide.

"Doesn't seem too much like Aragon at all, really. Then again, always having to live under someone else's shadow is a shitty existence, to that I can attest."

Above them, sitting astride one of the tangled masses of lighting tower that still clung to the edge, was a tall man. He was dressed plainly, his dark boue jeans and grey hoodie helping to hide him from sight for so long. he pulled the hood back to reveal a scarred face, whose ice blue eyes took in the whole of the quarry.

Ishin Katsuji looked around and surveyed the area.

"It sure has been a while since I was here. Last time, I was throwing one of these buildings through that mechanical demon those white coat guys were so proud of."

"For as long as you intend to fight and protect, to unite your fellows against evil and lead them to victory," the gunslinger began in a wistful tone, reaching into his charred duster and retrieving a cigarette. "...These are the kind of battles you must face."

Lighting it, the grizzled General took a long, deep drag. It had been a long time since those words had been imparted on him, and the gunslinger doubted that Sayis Inuzuri would even recognize his own deliberation. Letting out a smoke-filled sigh, Masato's amber gaze drifted away from his opponent and fell upon the fading skyline at his back.

"...Was this what you had in mind?"

Grinning slightly at the soutaichou's mention of jumping the gun, Masato let out a dry laugh.

"No, we wouldn't want you doing that, would we?" he breathed, drawing his dual pistols from their respective holsters. "...We'd deprive this lot of their show."

The tone of the General's voice made it clear just how distasteful he found the whole arrangement. Shrugging off his blackened duster, the agent took a step towards the silver-haired swordsman, offering him a curt nod as he readied his weapons.

"What's say we get this on the road, then?"

As the words left his mouth, arcs of coalesced reiryoku began to pour from his form, wreathing his dual revolvers in arcane light as they took on their spiritually-enhanced forms. Heaving one of the massive weapons onto his shoulder, Masato levelled the other with the Shinigami.

Closing one eye, the gunslinger steadied his aim as the revolver's massive cylinder began to turn, tumbling over and over as fate decided upon which brand of elemental fury to unleash. Finally, with a metallic thump the apparatus came to a halt, its barrel glowing a pale blue hue.

And with a press of the trigger, Masato's greatest battle began in earnest.

Thangs

Released IA and activated Roulette. Rolled a Cryo round. Just taking a potshot to see how Sayis reacts. Total value is ~530.

The Soutaichou's reiatsu, up till that moment at rest and nearly indistinguishable from the surroundings, flared up as if that single shot had stoked some inner fire. Though a mere shadow of the man's full potential, the swelling reiryoku was still monumental to visit upon the living world.

Sayis' left hand closed around the hilt of his zanpakuto sheathed on the same hip. He released his shikai and in the same motion, yanked the transforming blade upward, halfway out of its scabbard. The charged shot knocked the grey-haired shinigami back half a step.

Sayis grinned.

The bullet struck the mirrored surface and rebounded back toward Masato. "Utsushi dasu, Karil," Sayis added belatedly before slamming the sword back into its sheath, still released. Still grinning, he began striding calmly forward, left hand still gripping the zanpakuto hilt while his pseudo blade floated at the ready by his right side.

"Let the desirous and foolhardy who think they know purity be punished for their ignorance while heavens weep and gods tremble," Sayis intoned, his voice grim while the words flowed rapidly from his lips, nearly too quickly to be understood. "Kansei Kyokko Kumonosu Fushibi Kyoumon..!"

Then he released the sword's hilt to throw his left arm forward as a teal glow leaked out around the numerous black bands. One final name left his lips, one that the human might have remembered being shouted from the turbulent skies above these very grounds. "Hiryuugekizokushintenraihou!"

[240/555]

Note
With Mahoubai, Sayis can cast up to two spells in one turn.

Choose wisely.

Adding in the actual spells below:

Kansei - Bakudou #14, 85 Kidou + cost of Bakudou

Description: Kansei (also known as Trap) is a kidou that allows the user to place a time release bakudou anywhere they wish (as long as the surface is solid). The user chants this kidou then presses their hands against the ground with the bakudou of their choice in mind. The earth lets out a small glow as the energy is infused in it but the light then fades. When the specified time is up or when the target steps in the designated area, the bakudou is sprung. The trap zone cannot exceed 3m.

Incantation: Let those who blindly walk forward be punished for their arrogance with damnation. Bakudou #14, Kansei.

Kyokko - Bakudou #26, 500 Kidou

Description: Can hide a single kidou from sight, but since it must be cast on an existing kidou, it cannot be used on short-lived spells like projectile Hadou, unless the caster uses the Arcanist tech Mahoubai or its equivalent.

Incantation: Blind them from what they think they see, hide my power from what they think they know. Make them ignorant of my strength. Bakudou #26, Kyokko.

Kumonosu Fushibi (Webbed Ambush Flare) - Bakudou #83, 3500 Kidou + cost of Hadou

Description: A stationary dome of red webbing surrounds the caster's current position, with a radius of 5m. The barrier is implanted with a single Hadou the user knows, which is released at the first contact.

Incantation: Surround my holdings with webbing, flaring to punish the desirous and foolhardy. Bakudou #83, Kumonosu Fushibi.

Kyoumon (Mirror Door) - Bakudou #76, 3400 Kidou

Description: Creates a glass-like barrier which surrounds the caster. It is nearly impossible to break from the outside, but is vulnerable to attacks from within. Attacks to the outside are only 2/3rd as effective at breaking the barrier, but attacks from inside are 3 times as effective.

Incantation: The gods' most steadfast protection, sealed from all injury. Wall of purity, impenetrable mirror, precious bastion. Bakudou #76, Kyoumon.

Hiryuu Gekizoku Shintenraihou (Flying Dragon Striking, Heaven-Shaking, Lightning Cannon) - Hadou #88, 5750 Kidou

Description: Fires a massive wave of pure lightning at the opponent. As might be guessed from the cost this is an exceptionally powerful spell that can cripple all but the most powerful opponents. The beam is 5m in diameter and travels up to 100m at full power.

Incantation: Heavens weep, gods tremble. Chaos usurps control over the skies and strikes down the guilty. Hadou #88, Hiryuu Gekizoku Shintenraihou.

If the gunslinger had intended to get the man's measure from his earlier attack, he was sorely disappointed. Utter inaction was all seemed to follow in the wake of their first clash; a simple parry and some words uttered under breath.

With a frown, the agent adjusted his aim, loosing a second round to meet his first that had been so hastily redirected. The crisp ring of metal on metal reverberated through the quarry as the projectiles met and snuffed one another out. With an exacerbated huff, the gunslinger hauled his second massive revolver from his shoulder, rounding its barrel on the captain-commander.

"I guess it'll take more than one shot to make things interesting, huh?" the General sighed, snapping back the hammers on both of his weapons. On cue, each of the massive barrels began to glow with arcane might; one a deep indigo, and the other a striking silver. A thin smile snaked its way along the gunslinger's pallid visage.

"...Lets see how you handle these."

Squeezing the triggers, a reverberating boom echoed through the quarry as the rounds sped from Masato's weapons, each enhanced by the human's reiatsu and ready to burst.

Explaination

So as I understood your turn after reading it over and over, none of the spells were directed at Masato. Unfortunately for me, Masato's almost entirely oblivious to Kidou so the chants wouldn't have set off any alarm bells -- if he even caught that you had cast a spell, he certainly wouldn't know what to expect.

For now, he's just reacting to the reflected bullet, and trying to get Sayis' measure. Fired two more shots with Roulette. Rolled a Tesla round and a Zanpakutou Core. Both shots are enhanced with Danger Close and Force (which I paid double for :< ). Taking this opportunity to stack Rapid Fire.

Total value you need to worry about is ~2.8k

Resonance: 4,670/12,195

Yell at me if I totally misplayed this one D8

Sayis yanked his left hand upward, throwing his zanpakuto upward in order to clear the sheath. The pseudo blade shot forward to intercept the cobalt bullet with a loud crash of thunder. The blade vanished but the bullet was barely deterred. The bullet tore through his weakened defenses, clipping across his shoulder and sending electricity crackling into his arm, pain rippling through his left side.

In that same instant, the Soutaichou grabbed the zanpakuto underhanded, tilting the mirrored side just before the second bullet struck. The silver slug chimed against the blade but it wasn't enough. Blood fountained from the Soutaichou's back as the bullet ripped through just below his right collar bone.

Grunting with the pain, Sayis still managed a grin, tilting the sword just a little more. The formerly mirrored edge still held the glowing silver shine of the second bullet. "Hadou eighteen, sixty-eight! Star Shriek Blast," Sayis called out, "Anjinryuumei!"

From behind Masato a familiar sound lifted up, a low whine that rapidly grew louder. Just before he could react, Sayis slashed Karil through the air, and a silver bolt of energy shot straight towards the gunman's chest.

[190/745]

Notes
Attempted to deflect the bullets, wasn't very successful. The pseudo blade vanished.

Captured a reflection of the Zan Core bullet in his zanpakuto and sent back a replica with unique feat Kyoumen-Kou.

Double-casted Star Shriek Blast (behind Masato) and Anjinryuumei (above and in front of Masato, will shoot in his direction), using unique feat Shijisaki Enryo Naku to change their intended range. You confirmed before that Masato was ~19m away before Sayis began stalking toward him and SEN lets me target freely within 30m.

[ Unique: Shijisaki Enryo Naku - "Unrestrained Marking" ]

In an effort to make his casting more versatile and through continual practice with kidou, Sayis has begun learning ways to creatively alter components of some spells. One such thing that he has focused on has been the capacity to change the intended target of a kidou.

Sayis has learned how to freely target individuals or areas nearby -- within thirty yards -- and can cast his kidou at them, regardless of the original intention of the spell. This can be used up to ten times in a battle and adds 20% to the normal cost.

[ Unique: Kyoumen-Kou ]

Reflection is the very definition of Sayis Inuzuri, transcending any singular meaning of the word, and Kyoumen-kou blends this piercing trait into his zanpakuto. What reflections are caught in the surface of his sword become his own.

This ability costs 2% of Sayis’ reiatsu. When used, his sword will be visually imbued with traits of one directed ability or attack reflected by the blade (for instance, turning black if reflecting a shadow ability). Auras, augmentations, and area-effects cannot be adequately reflected. A variation of the reflected ability can be used once, at a strength equal to the 2% cost paid. The reflection is stored indefinitely until released, but can only be used once. He cannot create a new reflection until the previous one has been expended.

Star Shriek Blast - Hadou #18, 95 Kidou

Description: This kidou generates heat and can be used to brighten even the darkest area within a 8m radius. Other than the fact that this spell is meant to attack the sight of all that gaze into its light, Star Shriek Blast, is a harmless, but useful kidou.

The user forms a pearl colored orb in the palm of their hand and holds it high above their head. After saying the incantation, the orb makes a noise similar to that of a charging cero and moments later, it will douse the area with a multitude of bright rays from every direction, except beneath the caster, granting up to 3 nearby allies immunity from the effects. This kidou expires after one round.

Once the user acquires 2000 kidou, the range and longevity of this spell will double.

Incantation: Midnight air comfort the dreary. Sunlit orb blind thy sight, Hadou #18, Star Shriek Blast!

Anjinryuumei - Hadou #68, 1500 kidou

Description: This hadou is simple in form, but when properly employed can be of significant use in the field of combat. By focusing their kidou energies, the caster is able to summon forth a brilliant orb of golden light. When first summoned, anyone in the area of effect (10m) may be blinded for one round at the sheer intensity and sudden presence of this potent kidou. This is determined by the user's Kidou stat.

The caster may attempt to anchor this orb in one of three ways. With guaranteed success, they may attempt to anchor the effect to their own person or an object within 15m of the caster's position when the spell is incanted. Lastly, they may attempt to fire it at and tether it to an enemy, though the success of this maneuver is dependent on their Kidou stat.

Once anchored, the golden ball eliminates and forbids all shadows to appear in a 10m around its point of origin. Beyond this, shadows and illumination effects may act as they please. Further, the caster will always know where the anchored object or person is, regardless of their visual state. This would allow the caster to direct attacks towards the enemy (physical obstacles cannot be bypassed by this spell, so you can't shoot through walls without the wall interfering even if you know where the enemy is). This effect endures for three rounds.

Incantation: Strength of mind, temperance of soul, abstinence of body. Bring forth the manifestation of my trials, reveal the wisdom of my ages, show a fragment of nirvana! Hadou #68, Anjinryuumei!

The gunslinger's eyes went wide as the grey-haired swordsman finally retaliated. Dual pistols snapped up in reprisal as arcane energies flooded the human's synapses. Time seemed to slow as his senses were bolstered by the surge of reiryoku. The familiar hiss of a cero at his back, and a burning bolt of silver at his front; the precious seconds granted to him by his post-human cognizance were just enough to acknowledge the two-pronged assault and react in kind.

Diving to the side, threads of coalesced reiatsu wreathed his body, springing taut and thrusting his tumbling form further away from the trajectory of the attacks. As he rolled, the gunslinger angled his weapons for a counter attack, amber orbs locking on the Shinigami in the distance.

And then everything went blank.

A bright corona of light filled his vision, snuffing out his sight. Tumbling to a halt a few meters away, the agent could only curse his luck as he felt something press against him and resist his movement; the Shinigami's web-like trap had been sprung.

"Shit!" the gunslinger cursed loudly as the contained reiryoku was released, a massive pillar of light and electrical fury exploding around him. Pain racked his senses as the lightning ripped through his body and singed his flesh, the sheer force of the detonation sending him flying backwards and away from the epicenter of the blast. Tumbling to a bloody halt, arcs of electricity still radiating from his charred and smoking body, the gunslinger grimaced, gritting his teeth through the waves of pain screeching at him from every fibre of his being. The Shinigami had got him good.

Struggling to his feet, the agent rubbed at his eyes, still unable to see through the bright flash of the swordsman's earlier spell. Spitting a glob of sanguine blood into the pale limestone at his feet, Masato struggled to perceive his surroundings with his remaining senses. The next attack could come from anywhere, at any time. All he could do now was try to level the playing field until his sight returned.

Pointing his massive revolver downward, the chamber lurched over, its barrel issuing a few gouts of steam before, with a loud thump, the weapon belched out a blast of compressed air, sending the loosely packed substrate at Masato's feet flying and throwing up a massive cloud of pale dust.

Ducking low, hoping that his improptu-smokescreen offered him the precious moments he needed to recover his sight, the gunslinger stooped behind a nearby piece of machinery and waited.

Wat happen

Masato used Bullet Time to parse the attacks and then used Push to evade right, which unfortunately activated your hidden Kumonosu Fushibi/Hiryugekizoushintenraihou. That messed Masato up something fierce. He's been blinded by Anjinryuumei, so the only thing to do was to try and duck out until the effects wear off. To do that, he pointed his Concussion Lance downward and fired. Since we're in a quarry and it's probably pretty dusty, that should make a pretty big cloud of dust. Of course, he doesn't realize Anjinryuumei is attached to him, so do with that what you will.

Resonance: 5,420/12,195

Sayis broke out in a run as soon as the spells were unleashed, a satisfied grin following the successful gambit. Masato was on the run, but now it was time to seal the deal.

"Kuyou Shibari, Bakudou Seventy-nine!" the Soutaichou incanted loudly, aiming through the obfuscating cloud of dust right at the General.

"Bankai!" he called out as he dashed into the dust cloud, pushing hard against the limiter before he lost his moment of opportunity. The reiryoku beacon of Anjinryuumei led the way through the debris while the air filled with the distinctive flash and sparkle of the fully-released zanpakuto. "Kagami-kiwa no Kariudo!"

Closer... closer..!

The crystalline mirrors in the air began to condense, first around Sayis and then around Masato. Five large kanji took form around the Soutaichou, forming the symbols for Zenhansha Kigou, each of the five mirrors flashing as they surrounded him. The ones that appeared around the stunned and bound general, however, were far smaller, far more numerous, and carried far more threatening connotations. "Muhansha Haji," Sayis stated in a hushed tone.

The lines of reflective incantations rushed in to surround Masato while Sayis rounded the machinery between the two of them, now brandishing a broad blade of pulsing, bluish reiryoku.

[206/951]

Note
So many notes:

Flashback to when Sayis spam-shouted five kidou names: the spell he actually cast (one of?) was Kumonosu Fushibi, imbued with Hiryuugekizokushintenraihou. He used his unique feat Yoteisetsu to transport the spell two turns into the future. With a combination of Kyoumen-kou, Star Shriek Blast, Shijisaki Enryo Naku, and Anjinryuumei, Sayis managed to get Masato to dodge right into the net right as it appeared, also successfully latching Anjinryuumei onto Masato.

This turn, he went Bankai, activated his Zenhansha Kigou ability (five kanji, each able to normally reflect up to 2% of his reiatsu; with Shield Break, it will be 1% each), and bound Masato with Kuyou Shibari, then Muhansha Haji.

Kuyou Shibari (Nine Sunlight Traps) - Bakudou #79, 3000 Kidou

Description: Creates eight black holes that emit spiritual energy in the space surrounding the target. The combined pressure tugs the target in all directions, threatening to pull their body apart. A final black hole manifests in the center of the target's chest, tightening the hold. The first hadou cast while this spell is active will be drawn immediately and entirely to the bound target.

Incantation: Cast a memorial for heavenly light, buried in the traps of consummate darkness. Stolen shadows, rod of enmity, cast forth and draw in. Bakudou #79, Kuyou Shibari.

Kagami-kiwa no Kariudo - "Seeker of the Mirror's Edge"

Sayis' eyes take on the same silver sheen that Karil's have.

The ground beneath Sayis illuminates in an immense circular pattern with a teal eight-pointed spinning star spreading out from the center. There are nine circles, one in the center and the rest at the tips of the star. There are various esoteric and powerful symbols throughout the area, inside and outside the star. The circles and other symbols give off bright silver light.

The blade of Sayis' shikai explodes outward into millions of tiny glass fragments. This glass dust fills the air around Sayis in a 30m radius. Mostly invisible, the glass winks and flashes into sight periodically, giving the air within Kagami-kiwa no Kariudo's influence an unsettling sparkling quality. Those within the area immediately feel as if they're being watched, and will at times see a pair of silver eyes or the shadowy form of a panther prowling around them.

Kagami-kiwa no Kariudo's hilt widens and forms a bright silver semi-circular guard from top to bottom. Its metal is etched with runes and kanji around the edges. An insubstantial blur in the air, the blade expands outward to 2m in length and 40cm in width. Despite its size, being immaterial it is still easily wielded in one hand -- the only weight is in the hilt. This blade immediately takes on the effects of Ranhansha Nakami.

Kanzenhansha Ittai - "Perfect Reflection Zone"

Targets that fall within Kagami-kiwa no Kariudo's area are automatically under the effect of Kanzenhansha Ittai. Each round that they are within the glass field, Sayis garners more information about them. This will begin with simple things, such as names, but the ability digs deeper with every turn. Weaker targets do not even realize how much of themselves is being displayed. With each sparkle in the air or glimpse of feral eyes, more of their inner selves are laid bare.

The longer a battle goes on, the more Sayis will understand his opponents... both as people and as combatants.

Once a kai, awakening, or resurreccion has been released, within three rounds Sayis can understand the workings of it; with hollow abilities, he understands one per round.

Before such abilities are released or after Sayis has learned how they work, he will come to understand all standard techs in one round. An additional round will reveal all division and faction techniques. All general feats are revealed with one additional round. Trained and Unique Feats take one more round each.

Ranhansha Nakami - "Diffused Reflection Blade"

At a cost of 2% reiatsu per round, Sayis can imbue his sword with any equipped kidou of up to two slots, reflecting and expanding or condensing the spell into the shape of the blade. This gives the sword a distinct appearance and grants the sword the properties of the kidou, of a relative strength to the reiatsu spent on Ranhansha Nakami.

Sayis can unleash the imbued kidou either when striking the enemy or by launching the kidou from the blade itself. Doing this counts against his kidou spells for that round. A new spell may not be imbued until the following round.

Zenhansha Kigou - "Total Reflection Symbols"

Drawing on his zanjutsu stat, Sayis is capable of condensing the glass powder surrounding him into the kanji for Zenhansha Kigou (全反射記号) in order to block kidou and kidou-like effects such as Cero. Sayis can reflect the energy back as if he had cast it himself (for better or worse). The ability costs 10% of his reiatsu, each kanji able to block 2% or reflect 1%. The energy in one kanji is completely used up with each block or reflection.

Sayis may use any of the five simultaneously or individually. One kanji dissipates at the end of each round.

Thanks to the effects of Kanzenhansha Ittai, in most cases Sayis will be aware of how much reiatsu is necessary even when unfamiliar with the attack being used.

Muhansha Haji - "End Without Reflection"

Choosing a spell to enact this with, Sayis physically manifests the incantation of the spell out of the mirrored fragments of Kagami-kiwa no Kariudo in his domain. Designating one target within 10m, the incantations appear in the air 5m from the target before rapidly closing in on the target to bind them. While bound, the target is faced with the reflection of their true selves.

On the following round, if the target cannot escape the binding, the spell is unleashed.

Muhansha Haji costs 5% reiatsu (binding) plus the cost of the spell. In the turn that Muhansha Haji is activated, the chosen spell counts as one of Sayis' spells for that round.

Sayis is within 5-10m of Masato, brandishing his bankai sword in his left hand, with his Bankai barrier surrounding him (able to block up to 1707). The glow of Shouaku Jukutatsu is still present.

Masato was bound first by Kuyou Shibari (3000 -> 4500 to Fuubi) and then by Muhansha Haji imbued with Star Shriek Blast (1802 -> 2703 to Fuubi). The bakudou is just physical, but the Bankai binding also has a psychological aspect to it.

Edit: Derp. With Addle, that'd actually be 9000 to Fuubi Kuyou Shibari and 5406 to Fuubi SSB.

A thunderous roar went up from the shinigami - the emergence of their Captain Commander's final release bringing a new confidence to them. Arano had leant forward, awaiting what was to come. His left eye gleamed with an inner flame, almost expecting something.

Whether Masato would fail the same test Zakki faced, he wasn't sure. He only knew that Orpheus' fate would rely on the outcome.

The Shinigami's binding struck true just as the gunslinger's sight returned to him. Gasping as the ennead of whirling energies tugged at his body, the human strained against the monolithic force of gravity itself. Around him, the dust and grit began to glitter, pale greys giving way to iridescent slivers and whites as, unbeknownst to him, the Shinigami's Bankai began to take effect.

In the distance he could hear the raucous calls of captain-commander's supporters, and the concerned mumbles of his own comrades. Looking up, eyes still stinging from the swordsman's previous spell, Masato stared with grimace at the pale reflection of himself in the lustrous fog. Battered, bloodied, sunken amber eyes full of fear; was this the face of a leader? Was this the visage of one worthy of following in Aragon's footsteps? Was he really so meek?

In an instant, the General's mind was overcome with memories. Every moment of weakness, every failure, every shortcoming, all laid bare. All reflected in his face.

No.

The whoops and cheers of the crowd seemed to fade. From deep within the man's soul, a smouldering rage built up, desperate to fight, to overcome, to surpass.

"No." he repeated aloud, locking eyes with his dishevelled reflection. As he spoke, coalesced arcs of arcane power began to radiate from his form, his body straining against the binding that held him. Gritting his teeth, the agent pulled with all the might he could muster. The abyssal voids screeched in retaliation as the human wrenched free, through sheer force of will tearing his body from the Shinigami's infernal binding and tumbling to the ground.

He would show them, here and now, how much he was worth.

Rising to his feet, the gunslinger's reiatsu surged forth. Around the quarry, hundreds of long, gleaming rifles rained from the ether, rooting themselves on the battlefield with a chorus of metallic thumps. Reaching out, Masato grasped at the handle of one of the weapons, the cold steel thrumming with arcane power. Eyes narrowed as he strained to pinpoint the soutaichou's location in the fog; there was no doubt the man would be closing on him. With a satisfied grin, the General stood tall, rounding the barrel on his opponent.

There was no time to think, to contemplate or weigh his options. Masato could only act. Reiatsu flooded his body as the gunslinger pulled on every ounce of his post-human power. With a speed that defied logic, the agent squeezed the triggers. Throwing the spent weapon to the side, Masato held out his arms, pouring all of his remaining energy into this one, final attack. In his grasp, a truly massive weapon began to form -- assembling piece by piece, part by part in his outstretched hands -- the ultimate expression of his power. The coup de grâce.

Turning the massive rifle on Sayis, the agent exhaled and fired, unleashing a massive pillar of malefic energy, the combined barrage tearing up the quarry, reducing earth, stone and steel to naught but ash.

All in the blink of an eye.

You only yolo once

Fuubi'd the bindings for fucking 14406 reiatsu. Dick.

That pushed me into not only True Awakening, but Overdrive. Dropped the hammer(s), fired a Roulette Barrage enhanced rifle (rolled cryo) and topped it off with Samui-chi.

Total value is 2,439 for the rifle shot and 7,191 for Overdrive attack. Keep in mind the cryo applies both Force and Pierce, and Samui-chi is defence-piercing. I'm also applying Overdrive-Force to Samui-chi, giving it +1k and Knockback.

As for targeting, reiatsu sensing + gumshoe has me covered.

I have 211 left.

Shock and awe motherfucka.

Impressive, was the only thought that crossed Sayis' mind as both bindings were torn apart and the human's power hit its peak.

It was exactly the scenario he had been trying to avoid in the first place.

Sayis grit his teeth, still dashing forward. The glowing form of his zanpakuto took a more solid shape, the wavy blue gleam turning to a pale gold sheen. The teal arm of Shouaku Jukutatsu twitched and then shot forward, stretching to its limits, carrying his last trump card.

By then the wave of frost was upon him. Sayis flooded the zanpakuto with reiatsu, fighting against the limiters and hoping it would be enough. He sliced through the air, hitting the leading edge of the beam with the flat of the sword, groaning as he forced more power into the deflection. A blast of chill air seeped around the edge of the sword and Sayis' momentum ground to a halt... but finally the beam was blasted aside.

Sayis stumbled forward, slamming the tip of his zanpakuto into the ground in front of him, all five kanji of Zenhansha Kigou lining up right in front of the sword. After that deflection, this was everything he had left.

He waited for the sound of shattering crystal, as that massive final blast shot ahead... and instead felt a sudden searing pain blasting through him. It passed through the barriers as if they weren't even there, shredded his uniform to bits, and scoured away at the flesh below. Eyes wide, Sayis could do nothing but endure the agony for the near-eternal split second it took for the blast to rip into him and throw him aside, leaving the better part of the left side of his torso burnt and bleeding as he rolled.

For several long seconds, he just laid there.

Finally, holding onto Kagami-kiwa no Kariudo for support, Sayis managed to struggle to his feet, just barely.

Very... impressive...

Notes
Used Kawasu to deflect the first shot: with Addle, it costs 6000. With Shield Break it only deflects up to 3000.

For the OD shot, he lined up the five kanji of Zenhansha Kigou (combined 3415) and gave Ranhansha Nakami to give the property of Kyoumon to it (683). The bad news is that even combined, with Shield break and the piercing nature, it didn't do much to weaken it.

The good news is that the barriers are still there, if Masato tries to fire off one last shot.

The 'last trump' that was mentioned: the other spell cast in the spam-turn was Kansei, imbued with Kyokko, placed on Sayis' Pseudo Blade using his unique feat. The invisibility of Kyokko was triggered on the sword when Masato's bullet struck, but the blade was still very much there. Sayis attempted a tele-stab with invisi-sword as he was getting shot.

The brief moment of elation and cautious optimism that followed in the wake of Masato's attack was cut short as he felt a familiar stinging sensation in his abdomen. The corners of his lips curled downward in a surprised frown as his gaze fell on the ghostly blade that had run him through; visible only by the steady stream of sanguine fluid that poured over it from the gunslinger's wound.

The soutaichou's trump card had struck true.

Falling to his knees as the ethereal blade was yanked free, pulled behind the Shinigami as he was blown away by the agent's own attack, Masato clutched at his midsection. Beneath him, a pool of crimson began to grow, staining the pale earth a deep red.

Not like this.

Gritting his teeth through the pain, the gunslinger flooded the wound with spiritual energies, desperately trying to hold back the bleeding. Slowly, the tide of crimson slowed and stopped, but Masato knew it wouldn't last. He had nothing left in him.

If this was how it had to end, he'd rather go down swinging.

Stumbling to his feet, delirious from pain and blood loss, the gunslinger examined the comparatively normal revolvers now clutched in his grasp.

Empty. Figures.

Tossing the weapons to the dirt, Masato reached into his boot and unsheathed his combat knife with one hand, the other still clutching at his bloodied abdomen. Shakily, the agent raised the blade and held it between himself and Sayis; one final act of defiance.

"Come on, then, " the grizzled General spat, "...Let's get this over with."

Amber eyes narrowed, struggling to focus on the grey haired Shinigami in the distance as his head spun. The roar of the crowd seemed to fade as he felt himself loosing conciousness, darkness encroaching on the edges of his vision. Stumbling to a knee, the gunslinger let out a bloody cough, the knife slipping from his grasp and rooting itself in the dirt as the light began to fade from his eyes.

And finally, the darkness took him.

Good fight

Masato took the invisible knife to the gut, because there weren't really any other options. Used Salve to stop him from bleeding out, took out his knife to try and keep fighting and then passed out.

Good fight!

The golden glow on the zanpakuto flickered and faded, followed by the ethereal arm of Shouaku Jukutatsu. Sayis gasped for breath, fist tightening on the hilt. Then the silvered glow in his eyes faded and the air filled with the sound of shattering glass.

Karil sealed itself, and without its support Sayis dropped to his knees.

"Strong, indeed," he breathed out, dropping the sword to clutch at his wounds, blood beginning to darken the stone beneath him.

With a soft sigh, Arano leaned backwards. Mouko's hand was a vice-grip on his, and he looked at her pale face briefly before nudging her forwards. "Go."

She needed no further warning, quickly taking off to the center of the caldera. Behind him, raucous cheers came from both sides. The General had not disappointed, matching and scoring a devastating blow to the leader of the entire Gotei Thirteen!

Yet, it seemed Sayis would emerge victorious, a fact rejoiced by the shinigami portion of the audience. Arano himself remained seemingly ambivalent, the last few scenes of the fight replaying in his head. Then, he eased himself upwards, noting that Mouko was already halfway to Masato.

A soft smile crossed his face, and he turned to leave. Perhaps, if not for Cerberus, there was a future in Orpheus yet. Perhaps Masato's will hadn't been broken by his bitterness. He could only hope for the best.

With an unmentionable amount of energy, the Director vanished into the shadows.
