Her opponent danced in front of her, a whole body cut into twelveths by the silver bars of the protective mask that obscured Yu's face seemingly less than it should have--not to question the fortitude of the head piece, but rather pay heed to Yu's own striking feature behind her kendo gear. The eyes of the practice gear were undoubtedly focused on her own ocean-encompassing orbs, unwavering in their focus on the fellow second-year student pacing back and forth and side to side in front of her. Her pink lips betrayed no sign of emotion, denying even the slightest spasm into smirk or frown, the button of a nose just above them just barely flaring with each slow, calm inhalation of air.

Stop.

And go.

A shriek wailed out of her opponent, echoing loudly in the mostly empty club room. There may have been some kind of word spoken, but her tone did well to disguise it. No, this was little more than a declaration of attack. A war cry.

What a turn off. And she was so cute just a minute ago, too.

Yu sidestepped the overhead blow with ease, her feet landing solidly on the ground left to her attacker with a clear killshot in view. Her own arms raised high in an instant, a speed that greatly trumped the strike of the other girl despite no downward plane to add any quickness. Finally her lips parted.

"Men!" she called out, and sure enough her sword slammed down on the headpiece of her opponent, ending the sparring match with one swift movement.

Oohs and aahs escaped the sparsely populated audience--a handful of other Kendo Club members, most of them first-year students at the high school and members of Yu's unofficial fan club, though the majority of the other members were absent. There wasn't an official practice scheduled today.

"Jeez, Yu," her masked opponent said through a pout. "We're not even supposed to be practicing so close to exams... What am I going to do if that men knocked something loose in my brain! I'll have to take remedial classes and quit the club and..."

She removed her helmet, letting loose long raven-hued locks that extended well past the small of her back and similarly colored irises in her big eyes.

"My bad, my bad, Yozora," Yu replied, with a wink, bring her hand to her forehead as a signal of fault. "I mean, it's not like you were going to do well on the exams at any rate. Now at least you have an excuse for when you totally bomb them."

"Not funny. You better help me study!" the other girl retorted. "Anyways, didn't you say you had something to do today immediately after the practice match?"

Yu looked at her friend quizzically for a second before it dawned on her. "Oh, Jeez! It's time, it's time, gotta go, thanks for the match, gotta go!" she spurted out hurriedly before speeding out of the practice area.

How could I forget? She looked down at her wristwatch. I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

Yu fished into the pocket of her skirt (was she always wearing her regular clothes under her kendo gear?) and pulled out a wad of colored paper crumpled up tightly into a ball. Carefully unraveling it mid-sprint, she took a quick look at its contents, dodging pedestrians and street lamps like the best Battletoads player ever.

Yu looked down at her watch again: 17:11.

Fuuuuuuuu-

She picked up the pace. There was no way she wasn't going to get to compete for a chance to become a superhero. She started to even daydream a bit about the intense battle they were going to have... there wasn't going to be anyone to stand in her way! And if they did, well, they'd get a taste of her ultimate finishing move. She hadn't thought of what that finishing move was yet, but it was going to be deadly.

When she finally reached the building, Yu dashed up the courtyard front, only to bump into a crowd of girls her age. Quickly getting up and extending a slew of sorrys and excuse mes, she continued her dash... only to find more and more girls. Was there something going on here? No matter--Yu ran right past them all and right into the Sunshine 60 building, ending up at the audition area in seconds.

"I'm here..." Yu gasped, desperately trying to catch her breath, "for the... hero audition."

The two men looked at each other and shrugged. "You're a little late for signups... not to mention you cut the line by, like, 400 people. But, eh, why not? We'll need you to sign some papers before we get started, though."

Yu started signing them without even so much as a glance at the fine print--her mind was hanging on what the man said before. That line of people... those were all hero wannabes? Seemed kind dainty... well, I guess I'm not one too talk, Yu wondered before getting into her introduction. "I'm Tsutsujimori Yu! I'm a second-year High School bo-err, girl, and I'm the best in the Kendo Club. My favorite food are tacos. That's it, I guess."

The men started to crack smiles. "Well that's, uh, interesting. Moving on, is there anything you can show us? Like, some kind of move or something?"

"Of course! I'll do one of my favorites," Yu replied, getting into position. "Here we go. Flying.... Elbow... Crusher!"

Yu jumped into the air and made her body parallel to the ground, stuck her elbow out and came crashing down all in one swift, slightly painful motion. "Th-that's just one of many more!" she chimed in for good measure.

The men tried to stifle their laughter. "You know, we were talking about dance moves. It's pretty important to the job, you see."

"D-dance moves? But when are those going to be practical in the heat of battle?"

Now the men were flat out hooting and hollering. "The heat of battle! Get a load of that! Oh, man, we like you kiddo. Consider yourself moving on from the auditions. Congratulations! Not that it really matters or anything, considering you've already signed away your identity to the company."

"Wait... I'm confused," Yu murmured. "The company? A hero... company?"

"Kid, what kind of audition do you think this is? Take another look at the flyer." the guys said in unison.

She uncrumpled her flyer again.
