[PM] [1st/8th/11th/12th] Week 199: This Is Supposed To Be A Scouting Mission

Status

Zak flicked his cigarillo aside and into the white sand, part of him hoped that he was the first man to intentionally litter the otherwise pristine landscape. With a flick of his left arm his round Clairvaux spun open into it's shield form. This was not a time or place to play games, it was the time to bring weapons to bear and strike with a certainty that would show other enemies that you meant business. The only reason the Templar did not outright release his shikai was so as not to broadcast their position until it was completely necessary.

[625]

Amaya took another drag of her cigarette, before flicking it aside like her fellow Templar in the group. She knew this would happen, and the sheer quickness that it took the beast to find them was only proof that this mission would only get more dangerous. Drawing her dual blades, Amaya shifted into a battle ready stance, waiting for the hollow to make it's obvious move on the group.

“Let's try to make this quick,” the Co-Third Seat frowned, “this can only get worse.”

[86/416]

Thick claws leaving a trail of disturbed sand hanging in the air behind it, the beast charged heedlessly towards the grouping of shinigami. It was a physical specimen, endowed with a dense musculature and agile bone structure completed by tools meant for efficient killing and handling of prey in the form of mandibles, teeth, and claws. The segmented chitin that covered its form rippled at the power of the contractions beneath it, leaving a breathtaking display as it closed the distance in far too short a time.

Violence seemed inevitable as the monster rushed towards the position of the silent Walker and his tattooed companion, baleful crimson eyes leering at potential prey from behind the slanted ivory mask. Yet, the moment the beast drew near enough to pounce, the singularity of its purpose seemed to dissolve in an instant. Body coiling and claws ripping at the sand beneath its feet as if to lunge, it instead behaved as a puppy would: turning about and chasing its own flank in tight, carefree circles. For the moment, it utterly ignored the presence of the formidable squad directly before it.

[187/301]

Zak's muscles tightened as the thing came toward them in a reckless charge. It was certainly big and far faster than he would have initially imagined for its apparent size. It was a tank bearing down on the group and all Zak could think of was how in the world to stop this thing should it not decide to slow and instead ram through everyone like a ball to bowling pins. Then it was upon them, claw and mandible, thankfully slowing and likely preparing to rear. Zaks muscles tensed so completely he thought his eyes might just pop out of his head.

Instead it had broken into chasing its tail as suddenly as it had begun its initial charge. The Templar visibly deflated in shock as his over tense body simply did not know what to do with itself. He glanced at Amaya, the only one he knew had been here before. "Is this normal?"

[790]

“What the hell...” Amaya mumbled as she changed positions into a more lax stance. She couldn't help but let a small smile flutter across her lips as she watched the hollow's peculiar actions.

“No,” she responded to Zak's understandable question, but her eyes stayed locked on the hollow, obviously distrustful of it's actions. “They usually just try to kill us, give it some room in case it changes its mind.” The statement was blunt, but little else would do in the given situation. She stood perplexed for another second before saying anything else.

“This wouldn't be the first time I've met something not openly hostile to Shinigami in Hueco Mundo, but this isn't normal behavior for a Hollow. An Arrancar might test out the waters before attacking us, or ask us a few questions before attacking, but this...

...this is just odd.”

[146/562]

"Shit!" grunted the vice-captain.

Seitaro immediately hopped in front of his companion and raised a hand to the hollow. His cool blue orbs met the crimson eyes of the beast. A smirk etched its way onto the man's face as a barrier formed in front of him, halfway surrounding Kurohashi and himself.

The creature was immediately thrown back several feet. A splash of bone white sand erupted into the air following the creatures landing.

"Damnit Kurohashi, I said take up your blade. Make me repeat myself and I will turn the next spell onto you. Got that?" the inked man chastized, without taking his sights off the creature.

Note
Van, your hollow is up against a 1500ish Tangent spell. I went ahead and wrote the action for your hollow since you were on a one way trajectory anyway, but if you need me to edit or something PM me and I will hop on am. I used:

[Kyousei Taikyou] - “Forced Ward“

Spell and Zanpakutou are one to a member of the Eighth. A practitioner of this technique will gain the ability to completely bypass the incantation of barrier based kidou. Furthermore, the user of this tech will also have the ability to augment any barrier by paying 10% reiatsu, to be included to the barrier's potency. The size and shape of the barrier may vary, depending on the amount of reiatsu placed into the spell.

I am sure you are fond of tangent, but for those that are not here it is too:

Tangent - Bakudou #32, 320 Kidou
Description: One of the fastest working barrier spells around, it is a speedy and relatively easy going counter. Chanting the short incantation, an instantaneous burst of energy flares in front of the user, lasting only for a split second. Only capable of blocking strikes at the user's own strength or lower, it is still very useful. If any physical contact with the Tangent barrier is made, the opponent will be knocked off his/her feet, sent flying backwards roughly 20 feet, though not hurt. All the combined effects of this spell happens in less than a second from the completion of the incantation, making it light but hard to evade.

Something suddenly burned at Kurohashi’s senses – an insidious, lustful scent tantalized the silent warrior. His eyes widened with inquisitive excitement, darting across the murky horizon that surrounded the group in every direction. It was difficult for the brute warrior to hone the trail down to anything less than a general direction as his attention shifted like a cat’s, trying to catch sight of its prey.

At first, the tattooed reaper’s words fell deafly on the mute’s ignorant ears. The dark energy suddenly became tangible in the distance as a demonic goliath came bounding through the plateau of sand. The ominous shinigami rolled his head to the other side, like a decrepit ragdoll, and he shrugged both shoulders backwards as he inhaled coarsely. The shinigami’s body released gut-turning pops and crunches as he arched slightly back.

He was ready to pounce. The scintillating hunger began to flood his entire body, thirsting for the crunch against a hollow’s bone-like mask. As the beast drew nearer, Kurohashi’s feet began to slowly stride forward, away from the group. His chest, rising and falling with each breath, held tense with anticipation. The sound of silent static, or even the dull drumming one hears when submerged in water, seemed to pass over the man’s ears. The silence was shattered though as a burst of kidou sent the beast flying across the arid wasteland.

“Damnit Kurohashi…”
the Eighth Division member’s words rang in his ears. As he spoke, the looming Death God slid the exposed part of his blade from its ragged sheath. Instead of pressing forward though, the lanky figure stepped backwards, slowly nearing his scouting partner. Although the taciturn man had only recently returned from his extended stay, he knew this wasn’t normal. Something was…wrong.

Like most of her team, Ilsa just stood and stared at the circling Hollow for a few seconds. What in the worlds is going on here? Even the team veteran didn’t have a clue. To attack or not to attack?

Kinugasa answered that question for her. The tall shinigami bit back a curse as she snapped her weapon into the one-handed position that Uchiharu-san had taught her so long ago. Would it have been too much for the other vice-captain to warn them before he attacked? Granted, this was a Hollow and whatever it had been up to, it couldn’t have been good. But they were supposed to fight as a team!

Never mind that. Focus. Blast it or tie it up? Their melee specialists were still fresh; best to let them do what they did best. “Casters, bind and hamper it. Melee, kill it.”

Ilsa held up her free hand in a loose fist, taking three long steps toward her right to get a clear line of fire. Best to get her higher-level spells off before anyone got in her way. “Bakudou number sixty-three, Saju Sabaku!”

A glowing purple chain materialized in her hand. This was just like Hainawa, one of her Signature spells that she had used and loved since her Academy days, but much stronger. The arcanist flicked the chain toward her target with expert ease. Saju Sabaku wrapped around the Hollow like a constrictor around its prey, dragging it down onto the sand.

Talked to Van about the hit.

Saju Sabaku

Saju Sabaku (Winding Binding Chains) - Bakudou #63, 1200 Kidou

Description: The caster faces its palm towards the opponent in a gripping-like gesture while a serpentine luminous chain, several feet long, materializes around the caster's hand and rushes towards the target, entangling itself around him. Immobile, the target is subdued by the seizing chain's weight and is forced towards the ground or nearest surface.

With the division tech Clearcasting, the spell is at 75% strength without the incantation.

With a startled, keening whine the mighty beast slammed to the ground with a force that transferred the feeling meters through the sand. After a brief moment of laying stark still the beast put its mandibles to quick work, gnawing on the arcane constraints that bound its form.

[48/349]

The hollow's actions were confusing, at one time it had charged directly towards them, but all of a sudden it had started to chase its own tail for no apparent reason. The black-haired shinigami didn't know what to do, but luckily others lead with their example and Maruyama-fukutaichou shouted out orders.

Even though the hollow was bound by the chains, Shizuka thought that it would be better to make sure that it could not move.

”Carriage of thunder. Gap of the spinning wheel. Divide this light into six pieces. Bakudou number sixty-one, Rikujoukourou!” She spoke out pointing at the hollow with her zanpakutou. The six rods of light slamming into its body.

[113/470]

The pony-tailed vice-captain sheathed his blade. Placing his hands at chest level, the right hand with its index and middle fingers pointed toward his chin, while the palm of his left rested just underneath the right.

The inked man leaped into the air and chanted, "Three sparrows fall from heaven. The fallen Garuda faces the sky."

Seitaro motioned his tattooed arm and drew a radiant golden triangle in the air. "Bakudou number thirty, Shitotsu Sansen." The fangs of the spell shot out from the corners of the triangle and darted for the creatures neck and front paws.

It took the third seat a moment to realize the other shinigami in the group had attacked. She hadn't expected a group of shinigami primarily from other divisions would be so rash, but she couldn't blame them for attacking the beast. For whatever reason it hadn't attacked them, and instead it gave them the chance to initiate. Glancing at all the caster's standing around her, she suddenly felt a pang of disgust. None of them had even engaged the beast at close range yet, they were all content to stand in the back casting spells at it.

Sneering and tightening her grip on her blades, Amaya vanished into shunpo, appearing behind the beasts head. Her dual blades were aimed at the beasts neck moving as quickly and deadly as one could expect from the Third Seat of the Blood Templar.

[140/702]

Until its dying breath, the beast seemed to not fully grasp its position. Only one glimmer of the raw hate, baleful lust for carnage flashed through the hollow, as the third seat closed for the killing blow. Its entire body strained against the array of restraining magic, but to no avail. Tearing flesh and a spray of dark ichor coated the once pristine sands, only to begin slowly dissolving away moments later into a homogenous white ash.

[77/426]

Flicking her blades, Amaya watched the hollow's blood splatter the sands. It hadn't been much of a fight. She look around at the members of the group around her, raising her eyebrows, obviously trying to show them just how confused she was by the encounter.

“It shouldn't be that easy ever... let alone in Hueco Mundo. If anything this encounter should raise our suspicions. There's something going on here, we need to find out what it is and get out of here before something goes... wrong.”

She glanced quickly at Zak, obviously intent on making sure he realized what she was saying. After a quick nod to her fellow Third Seat her eyes shifted around the group, and finally settled on the Vice Captain leading the group. After a moment Amaya made her way back to the front of the group and waited for further orders

[147/849]

Zak was violent and he had a particular distaste for hollows, but he was not impulsive and even he knew better than to ring a warning bell when infiltrating a castle. The first attack by the long haired shinigami surprised him, but then the sudden followup by the rest made him grumble in exasperation. The first spell might have been enough to send the hollow running if the thing really had animal intelligence as it appeared. Now they were casting magic all over the place and then Amaya went up and destroyed the whimpering creature, not that she had much choice. The Templar sheathed his zanpakutou as the hollow began to crumble into nothing. His hand found his cigar case again and he placed the tobacco between his lips. He didn't really understand the heiarchy of the hollow world, maybe this thing was something like a Runkon citizen in which their actions can go on with little notice, but maybe it was more like a shinigami and someone would be soon aware of its death. Even worse, maybe that thing was the pet of something far more powerful and readily aware of the death of it's 'dog'.

He thought back to when the Master owned him, she would have butchered anyone that would have so much as laid a hand on one of her pets. "Brilliant." Zak grunted as he struck a match and lit his cigar. "Just brilliant." He turned his attention back to the horizon in case there would be more 'threats' to follow this up.

[1048]

One stroke and the Hollow was dead? Granted, it had had a great deal of bakudou holding it down, but still. Ilsa nodded to Hayashi, her face grim. "I agree. Let’s move. Keep your spiritual senses open, everyone.”

If there was anything else out there, it would find them. There were too many powerful shinigami in this group to hide. The only thing they could do was move as fast as possible.

It was over before it had really even begun.

True, it was just one hollow against some of the strongest shinigami that Seireitei had to offer, but... she didn't even have a chance to do anything. The brunette kept her mouth shut, almost embarrassed and hoping not to draw attention to that fact. She tightened her grip on her zanpakuto, vowing that the next one, she would be on top of!

Kyu's grey-violet eyes shifted over toward the redhead. He hadn't had a chance to act, either, but... was he just too slow? Or did he freeze up? Kyu frowned worriedly. Mitsu...

[102/607]

The silent walker of the Third watched with a heightened interest as the beast flailed about. Nothing about the hollow’s display was normal. Suddenly demon magic flew at the creature, latching to the monstrous body and wrenching it toward the ground. Kurohashi looked back to Seitaro and then to the girl leading the expedition. Even the dark reaper’s lust for battle was momentarily stunted by the unusual scene. The shinigami’s concern for the moment could only last that long, though – a moment. Before the towering man’s hesitation could have served as a warning, the tortured spirit’s head was severed and its body was descending into the stagnant air.

The group looked on in bewilderment for a moment until the order to continue was called out. The gaunt warrior turned back to follow Ilsa’s lead, his battered zanpakutou slid back into the make-shift sheath. As he continued the drudge through the dim sands, Kurohashi turned his gaze to the horizon. If the others wanted to expend energy on the strange hollows that may follow suit and act strangely, Kurohashi had a feeling he’d need to save his energy for what they hadn’t seen yet.

All the while, the petite shinigami just stood there, her feet stuck on the sand. Yuurei merely listened to the conversations around her, and watched as her teammates flaunted their skills to vanquish the hollow. In a moment, life slipped away from the hollow, and their team was back on the move. Although astounded, she knew she had to keep her focus on the task at hand.
