[PM] [1st/8th/11th/12th] Week 199: This Is Supposed To Be A Scouting Mission

With a furious sweep of its alien eyes, the hollow snapped to survey the closer pack of shinigami. A sudden, mournful howl escaped its lips and with all the might the beast could muster, it fled out and away from both the tree it had warded and the approaching pack of shinigami. Without a doubt, it was a master of sonido, racing across the sands with mesmerizing alacrity before winking out of sight. Soon enough, the silence and barren nature of Heuco Mundo became all too real.

It was then that a large wind sprang to life, the force of its birth sending vast amounts of the ashen soil skyward, blotting out sight with the fury of a sandstorm. Its existence was brief, however, lasting no longer then a minute. With certainty, the gap that had formed between the scouting party was now concrete. And for those unfortunate few that remained near the wayward Kurohashi, fate had played a dangerously unfair hand.

"I would have imagined that your 'conquest' of my home had been enough. But no, yet more of you pour forth into the sands that are mine, without doubt. Is Seireitei sinking? Is this why all the rats from that festering realm scurry into my home?" The speaker was a figure of nightmares, the absolute worst case encounter one could have in the demon plane: an arrancar.

And this particular one seemed peculiar in numerous ways. To match the fullness of his immaculate white garb, his hair was shocks of startling white. It was not the look of an albino, who simply had no color to their hair, or of an older person who had their hair fade to grey with the years: this hair was of such stark ivory that it nearly shone in the dull light of the eternal moon. His eyes carried the same feature, the iris white with such strength it stood out clearly, and his skin had no less a unnatural hue of alabaster. Armed with only what seemed a dagger strapped to the right side of his belt, the figure glided over the sands with adept steps.

Note
Those caught with the arrancar can get some reactions, then we'll split off into a new thread I'll start! [Espada/1rst/8th/11th/12th] Week: -- The Tyrany of One

Her teammates' sage-like words sank into her as she listened to them. Yuurei stood there, dumbfounded by the sagacity of their conversation. Her auburn eyes were quick to look wherever there is a commotion. At least, it was flattering that they were there -- the team. At least, she could assure herself that she could stick herself to someone within the group, with a fear of getting lost. Was she right to trust so much in the temporal security that the company gave?

No. Probably not.

She looked at the rebellious Kurohashi, then to the attentive Zakeriah, then to an authoritative Ilsa, then to the boisterous Kyu, then ... to no one. In a blink of an eye, all of them disappeared within her sight. Not a single one of them. Not a scent, nor a shadow, or anything, for that matter. They were all gone with the wind.

A chill ran up her spine when she realized her predicament. It was her first time in Hueco Mundo, and she barely had any idea of what horrors lie there. Sure, hollows posed a great threat, but aside from that, what? The petite shinigami looked around in a desperate search for someone -- anyone, for that matter. Relief dawned on her when she caught sight of the rest of the group... but the four of them were gone.

It was already frightening enough to lose them in a fight against a strong opponent... but it was different. They disappeared without any notice -- and half of them, at that. Now that's frightening.

FINAL [ 259 | 1024 ]

Stunned by the sudden eruption in the barren wasteland, Kurohashi dropped the risen blade to his side. He slowly straightened his spine and spread his feet as the unknown figure came into sight. The walker’s heart began to pound again, his corporeal body being flooded once again with the nearly uncontrollable urges. Now, however, the reaper could barely move at all, stunned with a level of timidity and fear he had never felt before. The terrible excitement that flooded his mind had drowned out almost any thought that could have arisen.

The alabaster figure stood before the party and cast a hollowed gaze across the disparate group. Kurohashi held his blade firmly and looked cast a glance toward the young girl leading the clan, waiting for her command.

As the group ran off toward the peculiar tree, Amaya couldn't help but take a moment to examine their surroundings, desperately hoping her comrades weren't running into a trap. She couldn't help but feel suspicious about the situation. Something was wrong... she could feel it pulsing in her mind. Her eyes shifted from left to right, and then she turned around, examining the barren landscape for any sign of movement. The pulsing grew every so slightly worse as she turned to check on her companions only to find them...

Gone.

They were gone. Once more she was alone in the alabaster sands. She didn't question it. She only took another moment to twirl, looking for them in the sands.

Their leader had disappeared... Amaya's fellow Templar had disappeared and their group size had been cut down substantially. And now they were leaderless...

Her eyes shifted around the group for a moment, and her mind could only mull over one thought...

“What had they gotten themselves into”

Ilsa turned toward the sound of running footsteps, surprised. "Tounyuu? What are you...” The words caught in her throat. Everyone behind the Seventh Seat was gone. Without a sound, without a trace, just gone. There was no indication that anyone had been there.

Sweet Mother of Souls. This is not supposed to happen! I’ve never heard of anything like this before! Half her team was now missing. She had lost half her team. The breath came faster in her lungs, despite everything she could do to calm herself. She had failed them.

You have no time to panic, fledgling. Are they not powerful shinigami? Do they not have the communication device?
Hinometori’s musical voice was uncharacteristically stern. Trust them to take care of themselves. You must focus on the ones you have here.

Ilsa took a deep, steadying breath. Hinometori was right. She had to trust the vice-captain of the Eighth to bring the other half of the team home. And Hayashi was a veteran of Hueco Mundo. If anyone could navigate the white sands safely (well, as safe as possible in this place), it was her. Zakeriah, Kyuto, and even Kurohashi, curse him, needed Ilsa to think clearly. To lead them.

Just as she opened her mouth to speak, a howling wind kicked up out of nowhere. Ilsa’s arm came up to cover her face, shielding nose and mouth from the flying sand with the sleeve of her kosode. The ‘sandstorm’ was coming in a straight line; something was heading for them at high speed. Washi no Ome couldn’t see exactly what it was, but from the spiritual pressure battering at her senses, it wasn’t good.

Crystal eyes widened as the wind died down, revealing its maker. An Arrancar.

Mother help us all.

Zak twisted back toward Isla, glad to see her and there at the least but now there was quite suddenly only four of them standing in naked surprise. The sandstorm came to life around them throwing pain and distortion their way, the Templar couldn't help but shield his eyes against the raging winds. Then as suddenly as it had arisen the sand calmed and died. Zak looked up to see a white figure standing away from them but walking forward with light uncaring steps. His garb was white and flesh even more so.

The shinigami had never seen one before but from what he had read and from what his gut was telling him, this was one of the demons of Hueco Mundo, one of the Arrancar. He had not the slightest what to expect of this creature but knew they were feared among the whole of Seireitei. His hand found Iblis, the soft crimson leather of his sword was warm in his grip and it seemed to vibrate ever so slightly at his touch. Iblis' thoughts matched his own. 'I have no intention of dying here.'

[1677]

Kyu was gone.

Kyu was gone. Wind and cold white sand whipped at the empty space she – and several other members of their squad, including Ilsa – had left behind. One moment she had been there, and the next she had vanished. Mitsu's gaze swept the horizon. Nothing but an empty black sky.

Kyuto was gone.

It took awhile for those words to sink in, and while they processed, Mitsuyo stood motionless in the sand, expression blank. One hand was raised to his mouth, fingertips almost-but-not-quite touching. He could still feel the ghost of Kyu's lips upon his own, and he could still hear her voice ringing in his ears, confident and reassuring where he was numb and terrified. Confident in herself, confident in him. Confident for him, since he was obviously incapable of the emotion.

Maybe she'd seen – maybe she'd been able to tell...Something must have given him away. The way his shoulders tensed when a lone, possibly suicidal shinigami broke rank for reasons beyond him; the way his hand locked around the hilt of his zanpakutou without warning and then immediately jerked away from it as if burned; the way his breathing had turned shallow and panicked; the way he'd been biting his lip hard enough to bleed.

In a daze, he wondered if he'd bled on her when she kissed him.

She's gone, he thought, numbly.

Then: Oh fuck.

Oh no. Oh no. Please, for the love of fucking god-–

Gone. She was gone. She had been talking to him and made a promise to him or with him or maybe both and she had been smiling and then she had kissed him and run off and now she was gone. She had fucking vanished into thin air; her and the woman who had been leading this crazy bullshit expedition and half of their team had goddamn disappeared.

And suddenly all Mitsu could see was blood.

Everywhere.

The small redheaded shinigami stumbled forward, oblivious to the others who were still with him, eyes wide and searching for someone who wasn't there. A sharp, wounded sound locked up his throat.

...Mineto-- a voice struggled to reach him--

But he was already screaming.

pft

See, Mitsu...this is why no one ever picked you to be on their dodgeball team in school. This shit. Right here. GOD. D:<

A sudden sigh huffed into the silent aftermath of the boy's scream. All eyes suddenly turned to the freakishly tall, slim figure that stood now where the others had just vanished. "I would call that scream a bit premature," the man articulated in a British accent.

Emerald eyes peered at the group from behind his shadowed face. They peered at Mitsuyo curiously, almost pityingly, before scanning about at the others. They settled back on Mitsuyo and in a mockingly consoling tone, he pointed out, "Indeed, you should be quite pleased to get a goodbye kiss from a pretty young lady."

Slender arms unfolded from his chest, the sleeves of his cerulean robes ruffling in a sudden whipping wind. Set atop an inhumanly long neck, his bald head gleamed in the moonlight... as did the pallid slivers of bone that lined his square jaws.

A smile spread on his thin lips, revealing his stark white teeth. He inclined his bald head, letting the silvery moonlight cascade down his long neck... sparkling against the crimson "8" etched there.

She had barely realized what had happened when she heard someone talk with a rather clear accent on their voice. Shizuka turned to see who it was, as the voice went unrecognized to her. Her black eyes caught upon a human sized hollow, which had a rather ominous and large spiritual pressure.

How strong is this hollow? The black-haired shinigami wondered, gripping her blade more anxiously and strongly, causing her hand to begin to change to a more paler colour, due to lack of blood circulating through it. The spell-sword wondered whether she should release her zanpakutou or not to fight this particular beast.
