Persona: Tegalus is a creature of diplomacy, even more than most of his fellow Velen. He is slow to pass judgment and quick to offer kind words, always willing to be a listening ear for those who need it. His job has led him to believe that most situations can be solved through empathy. Combine this with the fact that he has taken up a certain degree of pacifism in his day-to-day affairs and you have one of the most non-confrontational citizens you’ll ever find. Of course, this frequently leads him into trouble; many of the citizens of Araevis have much shorter fuses than Tegalus and are much less hesitant about coming to blows. Despite this, he refuses to allow anyone to shake the inner peace that he fights to maintain in the chaotic world that is Araevis.
Physical Stature: Tegalus, like many other Velen, possesses the lean, lithe musculature necessary for life underwater. His scales are varying shades of lavender and purple, making him stand out even in crowds of his own people. The counselor’s most notable physical attribute is the ring of blackened scales on the back of his neck, leaving a void of darkness in the sea of dim purple light that makes up his skin. When he wishes to avoid attracting attention, he will cover up with a black scarf around his neck, long pants, dress-shirts; anything that helps hide his distinctive scales. Despite his flashy scale-tone, those who come into contact with Tegalus report feeling an aura of peace from him. Even Enlil, who have a natural tendency to dislike Velen, are slow to quarrel with Tegalus. His eyes are often closed or only halfway open, a remnant of his school days when he spent most of his time meditating to keep focused.
Biography: As far as he can remember, Tegalus has always served a mediator. One of his strongest memories was pleading with his father not to give up on his mother. Despite his attempt, Tegalus grew up as an only child to a single parent. As the young Velen grew up, however, he became less concerned with why his father left and more concerned with how to leave his aggressive, controlling mother. She wanted nothing but the best for her son; unfortunately, her prejudice ended up driving his first love, a shy little Spurii, away from him. The incident drove a rift between the two Velen and Tegalus finally struck out to seek his lot in other cities. When the Velen arrived in Terminus, he enrolled in school with the goal of becoming a Caretaker. His hope was that with this new career, he could prevent others from feeling the pain of loneliness that had always eaten at his core.
