Pale fingers flipped a switch on the side of a small hand held video camera, its glossy black plastic shell picking up on the yellowed light that came from the ceiling fan above. Gingerly, the same set of fingers rotated the digital viewfinder around until it was facing the same way as the device’s lens.

Sachiko could see herself in the small display, long black hair disheveled and her maroon tank top creased in various spots from a long night of tossing. Yet, not a long enough night; the window behind her, partially covered by thin venetian blinds, revealed that the sun had not even began to rise. Rain flicked against the glass rapidly, but barely loud enough to be picked up by the camera’s microphone. A black digital clock on the bed side table read out three o’ eight off to the young woman’s right-hand side, only partially obscured by a small stack of a popular mecha manga.

She sat cross legged on her bed, the light blue sheets and quilt pulled back and bunched up in front of her as if she had exited the bed with haste. If it hadn’t been for the black...perhaps even dark blue sweat pants; the camera really didn’t pick up colors all too well, but she had never cared about such little things as that; the raven haired girl would have felt completely exposed to the nothingness in the room without the covers on top of her.

With a sigh, the woman on camera rubbed the area between both of her blue eyes, then moved her fingers up to her brows, giving them a few rubs as she tried to gather the courage to say something. Hanging her head low, she covered her face with both of her hands then shook her head as if disagreeing with a thought.

She brought her gaze back up and stared off towards her bedroom door to her left, a hand over her mouth as she brought her attention back the video camera lens, she knew this silence wasn’t going to get her all too far in this situation, she had to start with something.

“I, uh, I don’t know what to say at this moment,” Sachiko began in English, while trying to keep her focus on the device she had propped up on several books. “but I have to say something, no matter how crazy it may sound to you guys.

“I woke up about...” She turned to glance at the clock behind for a split moment, “A half an hour ago, I can’t really explain it too well to you, but the room felt heavier. Like, the air was thicker sort of...It felt like I wasn’t alone, like I could feel that something was in my bedroom with me. It’s like, you know how you can tell when someone is looking at you before you even catch them doing it? You can just feel their eyes on you. It’s that feeling somewhat, but a bit harder to ignore.”

She bit the corner of her bottom lip lightly as her fingers worked their way through her messy black hair. “So, I woke up and at first I didn’t really want to move around too much, because that might draw the attention of who ever was in there to me.At times I wasn’t even sure it was physically possible to move at all! I thought that if I just pretended to sleep, I don’t know, maybe the problem would just go away...

“I didn’t hear anything, though. Like, five minutes passed and nothing happened, so I figured that I might as well take a look...see if I was just acting like an idiot..”

Sachiko scratched above her left ear nervously, her denim blue eyes unable to make contact with the camera. “But I wasn’t, I could see this tall dark figure at the foot of my bed just looking at me. I couldn’t make out its face, or clothing...b-but I could see they had glasses...the light hit them just right...” The last part was hushed a bit, but still audible as the young woman brought her knees up to her chest.

“The figure just stood there, minutes passed, then...then it bolted for my bedroom door a-and...it went..through it. I know that door remained shut! I always lock it! There’s no way this was normal, that speed was like a blur!

“I know this sounds crazy, but I don’t think what I saw was a person like you, or me...how could anyone move like that? I-it had to be something else...” A frown worked it’s way onto the woman’s features.

“I just moved here, to Japan, about three weeks ago. I don’t have anyone to contact about this...who would believe me...and even though I didn’t see my door open, I suppose it could have been an intruder,” Her pale hands covered her face, then slid down slowly to fold around her legs.

“That’s probably a scarier possibility, but it doesn’t seem right for what I saw...I guess in the morning I’ll let them know downstairs that someone seems to be stalking around here...

“Either way, I don’t think I can get back to sleep. Hell, this isn’t even my bed, it came with this freaky ass unit! How can I comfortably sleep in a bed that belonged to someone else with a weird moving figure hanging around...I’m regretting this move, audience. If I were back in Texas, this wouldn’t be happening to me...night terror, or not.

“I’m thinking that I may not have picked the best apartment building, but I can’t afford to up a leave it for another. I don’t blame the person that up and left this unit last time...ugh anyway..maybe I will just try to sleep again.”

She straightened herself out, folding her legs once more and rubbing her left eye. “I have class in the morning, no matter how bad of a night I’m having...I’ll keep you guys updated as I find things out. Thanks for listening...”

A pale hand flipped the switch on the side of the camera off and set it on the bedside table, upon the stack mecha manga. As much as she usually hated leaving lights on at night, nothing sounded better to her at the moment, if it got too bright she’d just toss the blankets over her head.

Sachiko laid on her side in the bed and throw the covers up over her head anyway, forming a blanket cocoon, better safe than sorry after something like that. The last thing she wanted at this moment was to see the face of the figure...something told her that she’d have to eventually, though.
