Confusion

”Strange...”

”Strange indeed,” the female replied.

"What is that supposed to mean?”

"The blade shall reveal everything in due time. Perhaps it’s a riddle?”

"It might be.”

Eiji sheathed the blade again and rolled the tanto into a piece of cloth that he had in his shihakushou. It was necessary that nobody saw what he was carrying, or at least that they didn’t find out what it was for. Before he could show it to someone, he himself had to find out what it was used for. If it was a simple blade, a weapon, he could just let it pass. But this thing was something special. He was right in that it was an artifact, but it had no idea what powers it carried. The device he had just used proved that it was not lethal, nor was it unstable. He had to be careful of revealing anything.

Despite building this cavern secretly, he could not stay there for too long. He was sure that there was someone following him and that someone would’ve probably seen their little lightshow just now. The master guard from a while ago was quite something as well. He had followed Eiji without even making notice of himself and the scarred boy was sure that he had still not lost him. His strength was the real deal, and from what he could figure, he was a shinigami. Not just your every-day reaper. He was someone who had the same teachings as himself in his arsenal.

The techniques he had fought with were hand-to-hand combat techniques that the Gotei used. And the way he tracked the boy... It felt almost as if they were alike. Being only a tracker was rare in the Twelfth division; most of them were assassins as well. Tracking was only a complementary art to their hunt, which would help them in their time of need, while searching for their target. Other than that, most of their techniques and teachings involved assassinating. But since the division had been without a Captain ever since Eiji had arrived, it felt to him that the division itself had gone downhill.

Instead of moving back to his division, or perhaps even to the scientists division, he took a seat next to the altar just as he unsheathed the sword. He placed it gently over his lap and gave all his focus to the sword. This was an art used by all shinigami to communicate with their zanpakutou’s; Jinzen. The sheer concentration allowed the death god to enter the world of Kyoujin and interact with him. He had heard that a few had managed to materialize their swords into the real world, gaining the power to actually fight with their spirit for real.

As soon as he opened his eyes again, an elder man stood in front of him. He was dressed just like last time; in a worn out shihakushou, torn just below the shoulders and just below the knees. A black belt held the piece together and made sure that it was closed at all times. Even if there was nobody but the two of them in that world, it was still a matter of showing respect and acting according to what regular people did. The spirit in front of him looked just like a normal man, a bit older than most but he still had a lean body. Perhaps even fit enough to give Eiji a good fight.

That was not what was on the boy’s mind at this moment. He had acquired the artifact just moments earlier and actually managed to activate it. The glow had shocked him but he could still clearly remember the words that were inscribed on the tanto blade. The blade shall reveal everything in due time. What the hell could that mean? Perhaps the old man can help me with this.

Eiji rose from his sitting position and walked up to the spirit that was his partner. They both greeted each other and continued into the house where he had previously emerged. This time around, the house was a bit bigger. There was an entire room that had not been there the last time and perhaps even enough space for the old man to actually get a bed in there. It was closed and from the looks of it, even locked. The assassin could not imagine what someone who resided inside of him and his zanpakutou could actually hide, but it was definitely important to him. He was determined to not ask about it until Kyoujin had started the conversation himself.

They sat at the table that was filled with dishes last time. It had been cleaned but there were still a few plates and bowls on it, along with a glass or two. Even though he had cleaned up most of the mess, the place needed the care of a woman. Something Eiji could not provide him unfortunately, but that was not why he had come here. He needed answers and this was the only place he could think of.

"Tell me, what’s on your mind boy?” the spirit asked, as he pulled back his chair and moved to the fridge. He opened it with a quick pull and grabbed two beers from it. With one single twist, he removed both caps and they flew away.

"That’s one impressive skill you have there,” Eiji grabbed the glass bottle which was handed to him. "Perhaps you can teach me how to do that one day.

"I have come for an entirely different matter this time.”

Before the boy could finish, he was interrupted by a sigh from the spirit.

"Of course, you’ve come here because of that sword that you carry.” He pointed at the exact spot where scarred boy had stored the tanto and smiled for a reason unknown to the boy. "That small blade that you carry... I’ve heard stories about it. They may be true or not, but they are everything I know about it. It’s called Tenkuu no Joshu, and just like the name suggests, it’s an assistant to the heavens, heck even to the gods.”

He took a sip from his beer and let it down on the table with a bang.

"The artifacts abilities are unknown to me, but I do know that they are power you don’t want to mess with. If one single thing went wrong, you could end up killing yourself. You’ve seen what its powers can do. If you were to unleash it in the wrong place, maybe even innocent bystanders might get caught in the action.

"But do not worry too much. Like I said, these are only things I’ve heard. I’m not sure of the content of it, but I do know one thing. That tanto you carry is powerful. My suggestion is that you find someone to try it on, before actually using it in combat. If what I fear is correct, then that blade holds power that you can’t imagine. Powers that might lead you to wherever you want, but also powers which may corrupt you. You have to make your decisions based on rational thoughts, and not emotion. Remember that you can only get so far on just an emotion.”

"I understand.” Eiji replied, still a bit confused about what he was to do, but he would at least be able to finally use his newly found artifact.

He exited the spiritual world of his zanpakutou and got back to his own world. It seems as if I’ll have to find that guy again. Maybe he has some idea of what this thing does.
