Tip-tap.
Though he had stayed up all night, he still couldn’t seem to fall asleep even after all those hours of work. So much had happened in these past few weeks - most of it had actually happened in the last three days - that the assassin wasn’t quite sure what to make of it all. The Central Forty-six had been attacked again, but this time it seemed that the perpetrators were someone else...
And then it was Anshinkan Raifuku again.
Somewhere deep down it made perfect sense to the assassin to use ‘dirty tactics’ like that. To set up an affront, letting the enemy believe they’re fighting someone from their past... when in all actuality they really, really weren’t.
Even if the man was an enemy to the Gotei Juusantai, and by extent, the very lives he wished to protect so dearly, he still felt some respect for the man’s way of going about things.
He didn’t much enjoy the fact that it was them he had decided to assault, but it was ingenious in its own right.
Tip-tap.
The sun was really starting to shine through his curtains now, but there was still no sign of sleep kicking in whatsoever. Maybe he shouldn’t have drunk all those cups of coffee to keep him stay awake through his workload last night...
Or maybe he was just being restless.
Then, just as he was about to grab another stash of paperwork, there was a knock on his door and the all too familiar voice of Sienna called through it with all its child-like might, “Papa-knock-knock!” before she opened the door and walked through the door with her brilliant smile.
And then she tripped, her little arms stretched out - nearly making it seem like she was on the diving-team - and fell face first on the ground crying out something akin to, “Waaaaaaaoh,” and a loud thud following it.
“Owie!” she said unceremoniously as she brought herself back onto her knees, sat in the Seiza position and brushed her hands across her face a few times in an attempt to let the pain go away...
Seiko, who had by now appeared right next to the young girl, knelt down as well and threw a loving smile towards her as he held out one hand for her tiny hands to grab onto.
“Come on,” he whispered softly as he helped her back up, followed by him grabbing her and placing her onto his shoulders. “You’re pretty clumsy aren’t you?” He chuckled softly as he made his way towards the bed in his room and place Sienna on top of it.
With two ballooned cheeks and her hands crossed she looked away from Seiko’s face and made a ‘hmph’ sound, clearly showing the assassin that she was not amused by his words, but then slowly let her face go back to normal as small tears dripped down her face and she began to cry softly - opting Seiko to sit down next to her, grab her and place her onto his lap.
“Did it hurt that much?” he asked in a near-quiet whisper as he caressed her hair, and the only response he seemed to be getting was a simple nod from the girl’s nod.
“Do you want me to give you a kiss on the places it hurt?” he asked again, this time in a half-joking manner, and to his mild surprise Sienna nodded again and turned her head around slowly.
Sighing softly he asked, “Where did it hurt most?” as he waited for brown-haired, little girl to show him where the pain was. Almost immediately she placed both her hand’s fingers on the top of her forehead - covering the majority of her eyes.
“Your forehead?”
Another nod, and as the girl’s hands slowly moved away from the place it had hurt, Seiko gave a soft kiss on it and said, “There!” with a smile and a chuckle. If there was anything he had learned from Sienna it was that ‘pain’ was a very relative feeling.
She would be in pain most of the times when she wanted something from him, if she wanted him to do something for him. She would cry the most when things would not go the way she had wanted it to go, or if he was too busy for her at the moment.
O the other hand, she would smile and laugh all throughout the entire day if he’d spend his entire free day off with her - and, honestly, who wouldn’t want to spend the day off with a beautiful child like this?
Fact of the matter was... Sienna had thought him what it was like again to have a child to take care off. It had been such a long time since his biological daughter had been born - it had been in a former lifetime even - that the dark blue-haired shinigami had all but forgotten what it was like having a baby girl.
He enjoyed it immensely, though, and Sienna was probably one of the few things that kept him ploughing through all his hardships with a laugh and a smile. He would do anything for her if it meant she’d be safe, sound and above all happy.
“Papa-chama?” Sienna asked with almost puppy dog-like eyes, and Seiko was fairly certain this was what the big ‘owie’ for was.
“Yes?”
“When are we going to do something with you, me and mama-chama again?”
“What do you mean, like... when she’s going to come visit us again?” Seiko asked, fully aware of what the girl had really meant.
“No, papa-silly!” Sienna said as he slapped the man’s face. “I wanna go do something fun!”
“Something fun... huh?” Seiko repeated as he looked up, his hands placed on both sides of his body on the bed. “Soon,” he ended as a smile crept on his face. “I promise.”
“Really?” the brown-eyed girl asked excitedly, juming into the assassin’s arms - causing Seiko to topple over backwards onto his bed.
Smiling, he said, “Really.”
