Incredible build-up of tension. Positioning this story from Tes' perspective and allowing us to see how others view Deni is a great way to remind the reader just how much he's capable of. When we're in Deni's mind, we get to see a lot of his insecurities and see when he's bluffing and when he's in control. Here, we're as uncertain as Tes, and that works magnificently.
The chapter flew by despite being a goodly length, and I felt sucked in to the way Tes was viewing the situation, and in trying to figure out what the plans were. Seems all our characters are going through their darkest times, but Deni has managed to turn his despair into motivation, and seeing him be this threatening is unique. He's always been good at manipulating and charming people, I don't think he's ever felt as dangerous as he actually is. The transformation is effective.
I have to say, I also like the callback to the ANO and Orator. It makes me wonder if I should finally try to broach some of the follow-up plots I had in mind but never found the time for. Would you believe Kincaid had some potential importance in Orator's future? And hey, always glad to see the TT tag getting used.
