Bump.
I just saw A Place Beyond the Pines with Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, et all. It was pretty good, definitely in the artsy vein Gosling likes his movies to be in. Ever since the Notebook, he's focused on character acting and has impressed me a number of occasions with his skill. Granted, he has only one accent he does in every. goddamn. movie. but barring that, his performance is good, Bradley Cooper is good, Eva Mendes, despite her talent and screen time, is pretty much there just to make Gosling's character look good and later characters relevant.
Also watched After Earth, Oblivion and Admission.
I was really hoping After Earth wasn't as terrible as people said, but then again, it was. Even Will Smith couldn't save his son's performance, the rushed plot, or just the general poor execution of the movie (thanks for the umpteenth time M. Night. GAH). You'd think I would realize not to see these stupid movies that he makes but I love Will Smith and was genuinely interested.
Oblivion, on the other hand, was omgamazeballs. I really enjoyed that one. Tom Cruise didn't disappoint. Plot didn't disappoint, even if most movies anymore are pretty predictable.
Admission is the Tina Fey and Paul Rudd romcom about Tina Fey's character working at the Harvard (I think it was harvard) admission's office. It was actually a very good watch, pleasurable along the same lines as Pitch Perfect, where, you know you're watching a Romantic Comedy and, for all intents and purposes, a "chick flick" but Tina Fey and Paul Rudd pretty much make the entire premise bearable. If this had been a Katherine Heigl movie or something, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the hi-jinks or the coupling nearly as much, if at all. If you need a date movie, this is a good one for everyone, I think.
