Chapter 2 [New Orders] Word count 1008

Chapter 2 [New Orders] Word count 1008

Leon placed his hands under the running water; the cool flow seemed to ease the burning sensation on his hands. He examined his palm and fingers carefully noting nothing than some minor redness. "I guess I won't be bothering 3rd division with something this small." He muttered. He wiped the sweat from his face. After the encounter with the hollow at the docking bay, Leon feeled as if all of his strength suddenly disappeared into the void. The realization of the tremendous risk he took in executing the plan was overwhelming. The boy sat down on the floor and checked his Zanpaktou carefully. Leon unsheathed the blade, but Heiken didn't seem to be changed at all physically. The boy pulled out a small coin and held it close to the blade. The magnetic blade snatched it quickly from his hand. Leon sighed in relief; the electricity didn't seem to have caused any permanent changes to his Zanpaktou.

After a half hour of resting, the boy got back on his feet and headed towards the 8th division's headquarters. It had been quite a hectic day. Leon noticed an exhausted Jin napping at the reception desk as he walked in. It seemed with Kio injured, he had to manage the entire department for the afternoon on his own. The boy retrieved a disk labeled "Division 8 inventory List" from his desk and placed it besides the sleeping man. "Sorry I lied about not finishing the report. This is for saving me back there; I will return the favor in full someday." Leon thought to himself. He remembered the risk assessment report on the laboratory that Jin had requested. "Well, with this incident, I am sure I will have plenty to write about in terms of increasing the security at the docking bay." The boy chuckled bitterly as he sat down in front of the computer screen again.

As he is typing away, Leon couldn't help but to think how things might have been different if he was stronger. Every Shinigami had heard of the legendary deeds of the captains of Gotei 13, especially their extra-ordinary fighting capability. Zanpaktou that can turn into immense weapons or even spirits that elevate the user's potential to unbelievable levels. Leon wondered, if one day he too would obtain a faction of that power, when HeiKen can become a magnificent Zanpaktou instead of piece of junk forgotten in the warehouse. At least then he would be able to protect those around him. The boy snapped himself back from his day dreams. "I am pretty lucky to have this job at Division 8. I should really focus on meeting the squad's expectations." He thought to himself. "One day, Heiken, One day we'll get a chance to prove ourselves worthy." He muttered to his sword and returned to typing.

"It is important to note that a serious security flaw exists during the hollow transfer procedure. Between the disengagement of the spiritual ward and the closure of the containment doors is when the potential for escape the greatest. As noted from incident report 124.25.1A...." <key board tapping away.>

[Two days later]

The entire division 8 had received an order to commence a group meeting. Leon received word from his superiors that this isn't an "optional" meeting. "I guess I can't dodge out of this one." He thought to himself as he walked toward the conference room. The boy arrived in the conference room and noticed his partner Jin had also been summoned. "Good work on those reports kid! You really saved me from two hundred laps around the entire Seireitei!" Jin gave Leon a solid slap on the back. "Thanks for clearing my lungs Jin...I hope this is all the saving you need for this month." , the boy replied un-enthusiastically.

"So... Do you know why we are summoned? It seems like most of the division had been called here." Jin inquired as he gets comfortable on the floor. The boy simply shrugged his shoulders. "Man, aren't you useless. I had thought you'd be more in tune with the new happenings in our division." Jin yawns. Before the boy had time to think up a witty comeback, a stern female voice sliced into the conversation.

"I wasn't told about why we were summoned either. I guess that makes me pretty useless too doesn't it, Jin." Kio's voice dripped with sarcasm as she glared at the man who now wished that he had kept his mouth shut.

"Ahh...Gomenasai...gomenasai.. Kio Sempai..hahahah. I had no such intentions. It was a joke, just a friendly joke." Knowing that she just recently recovered from her wounds and mostly likely in an ill mood, Jin sweats profusely as he apologized.

Just then two men dressed in black and white formal attire walked into the room. From his outfit, Leon instantly recognized them as messengers from the Central 46. He began to read out the names of various Shinigami on a list. As their names are called, men and women walked up to his assistant and were handed a white envelope.

"Jin Masako... Lan Kamar...Tsurara Hiako... Kio Senjiro...Leon Takeda..."

Leon, Jin and Kio stared at one another with puzzled looks and glanced back at the envelope in their hands. Jin begins to open it and the other two also followed suit. Within each of the three envelopes was a white sheet of paper. And in bold letters it read: "To all Shinigami who have received this letter, you have been chosen to participate in this upcoming operation. This operation is of the utmost importance to the continued existence and safety of the entire soul society and all 13 divisions will be actively participating..."

"The Attack on Hueco Mundo through the main SenKaiMon will begin in THREE days!" three startled voices shouted out in unison.

Leon's face turned from shock to distress, from distress to discontent, and finally settled on reluctance. The boy sighed deeply and muttered, "Crap..." He had not hoped that the day to prove his self-worth would come so soon.
