Titan Souls is a lonely game with little in the way of plot. In fact, there’s only one dialogue scene in the entire game, and it doesn’t explain much at all. In the game, it is just you, your bow, your arrow, and the titans you must defeat. You can wander around some beautiful pixel landscapes, but there’s still only one thing to do. It’s just how long you want to put it off.
Titan Souls is best played with a controller. Find it on Steam.

In Titan Souls, you only have a few actions. You can charge up an arrow shot. Shoot the arrow. Roll to avoid attacks. Run around to avoid attacks. And call your arrow back. You don’t get anything new, so make due with what you have. The bosses of the game is different in that they also only take one hit to go down. The challenge is knowing how to reach or expose their weak point. You can consider each of the bosses a puzzle to figure out, and then once you figure out, you need some tight execution to win.

The game isn’t that long. In fact, there’s an achievement for beating it in under 20 minutes, but of course that is for those that have practiced for a long time.
Each of the bosses are different with patterns you must learn and exploit. The game is entirely as long as it takes you to defeat the boss. For the most part, luck isn’t a part of it. Good skill will carry you through everything, but maybe luck will help you the first time around. There is a wide array of challenging attacks to face. I won’t mention how to reach the weaknesses of the bosses since that’s the whole point of the game. If you figure it out, though, you can win most of them in under 30 seconds. Some even shorter.

The game can be a contemplative experience where you line up the perfect shot. Or it could be you frantically scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. While you don’t need to beat all of the titans to reach the boss, you should beat all the titans if you want the true final boss.
And after you beat the game, you unlock hard mode and iron man mode (one life only). In a game where you die in one hit, it’s going to be a challenge to get through.

Titan Souls is a short experience, but it is quite a good one. Aside from the first four bosses, there is no order for you to do things. Just go out there into a strange world. Any reason why you are there or what is going on is all up to you. Just enjoy the tight experience and figuring out what to do. Nothing quite like pulling off the perfect shot and felling a huge stone guardian in one hit.
