Exo One

Exo One is a lonely sci-fi game. You play as some guy that is inside an experimental alien spacecraft. It is just you, and the desolate planets you are traversing. Snippets of the story get dropped along the way of what happened and why you are there. The game is deep with atmosphere and a feeling of solitude.

A mysterious alien communication to build a craft.

The gameplay of Exo One is all about speed and momentum. There is no losing or dying or anything like that, but if you want to get through the level in any reasonable amount of time, you should learn how to use the tools given to their maximum potential. That’s because you are traversing vast terrains with destinations far beyond what you can see. Only faint lights in the horizon tell you where to go.

To help you, your craft is normally in anti-gravity mode, making it light and maneuverable. You can increase gravity, which you should do on downslopes to give you more speed. It can also turn into a glider allowing you to soar long distances in the air.

Gravity manipulation, gliding.

Each stage is you, landing on a strange planet with the goal of reaching the next planet. There are lots of mysterious stuff happening around you, but your main concern is reaching the transport to the next world.

Still, take some time to enjoy the beautifully desolate worlds. There’s no one else around but you to look at them, so you may as well.

A team has been put together to test the craft.

The game isn’t too long, which is alright since the abilities you start with are what you’ll always have. The worlds do throw you into more situations, though, and each one is stunning to experience.

Okay, this description isn’t doing the feeling and atmosphere of the game justice, but imagine you are a skateboard / hang glider vehicle combo and your course extends to a planetary scale.

The destination: Jupiter.

The story is simple but interesting, and it does take a bit of piecing together since you only get fragments here and there. Still, Exo One is a shorter but interesting experience with a different gameplay style. For those that want some galactic wonder, Exo One may give that to you.

Contact has been lost with the craft.
