The Room Three

This is the third game in The Room series and the one that wraps up the current story started by the first game. You can read my thoughts about the previous two games here.

The room is a fun point and click game that is focused on the puzzles. After three games they are still throwing interesting stuff out there while keeping with the eyeglass mechanic. There are a lot of fun mechanisms and locations in this one.

A new box to unlock.

This game plays a lot like the previous two, but this one refines the concept even further. The room is now pretty important in the actual puzzle solving part. Rather than one puzzle box, the puzzles are now spread all around the room where one thing links to another. Solve a puzzle in one place to unlock the piece needed to solve two more somewhere else. Go through all that to get through the room!

Hidden messages abound.

The areas now feel like fully fleshed out locations while having a bit of wonder and strangeness. You know from the previous games that something odd is going on, and this game goes all in on that. Even with a more busy environment, smart design makes it easy to figure out which parts are important and which are not. The important parts of the room just look more engaging. They are also more brightly lit to draw your eyes.

Pathway to the tower.

The game also has a hub area now that slowly expands as you progress. The game is still linear, as finishing one puzzle area directly leads to the key to the next one. But there are interesting things in the hub area for those that have keen eyes to check things out.

Search for secrets.

If you liked the previous games, then The Room Three is more of everything you enjoyed. The interconnected worlds make it feels like there is a presence and weight to everything. You have to go seek out how to reach the puzzles rather than just having the puzzles come to you like the previous games. And maybe, after all those challenges, you can find your way out.

Find it on Steam.

A roomful of mysteries.
