Alright a talk in chat sparked this idea.

When moot was in charge, he lived in Japan as a teacher. Every year there was a 'Mootscon' where he would come to the states and people from the RP would gather for a few days of partying and getting to know people.

Moot is gone now, but the idea of a 'con' to gather people is still a good idea. So I would like to gather ideas and see who is actually interested. Don't work it wont be anything soon. Maybe next year or at least 6months plus away. Plenty of time to get things planned, and hell. Even for your foreigners we can help you get over here to the states.

yes I said states. That is probably where it will be held first, since a majority of us are here, and if things are a blazing success, maybe we can discuss the other countries.

but enough of that...

WHO IS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY COMING TO A HALCYONDAYS CONS

Expanding on what Bob has said, there are a few things to be addressed before we begin to take this sort of idea seriously:

1) People have to want to do this.

2) People have to be willing to accept the responsibilities and costs that come with this.

3) People have to be willing to cooperate in the necessary ways to make this happen.

I, for one, believe we could make this into an actual event. That does, however, mean that people will have to step up to the plate to make this happen.

This means several things for you, and the RP as a whole. It means surrendering personal details, and allowing yourself to interact with people you may or may not be familiar with.

I, luckily, have no such qualms and have shared much of my personal information at mere request for those interested. Having participated in numerous Voice Chats over Skype with other members, I'm also rather familiar with other members of the RP on real-name basis.

As a personal thought, I can't think of something that would have more potential for success, and at the same time failure. I support the idea of an HD-Con, or a Halcy-con or whatever we end up calling it, but obvious things must be made obvious: This will require a lot of personal motivation and initiative.

Lets do this. BBQ. Tennessee. My house. Tomorrow.

But seriously, though, I only have one problem with this and that is the lack of personal funds. With all my family's money going towards college and my lack of a job, it'll be hard for me to get anywhere farther away than Kentucky.

If that does change, though, then I am all for it. I'm willing to meet whereever if I have the money for it, and I do reccomend that it be in the Summer, just because that increases the chances of people being able to actually get off from school/work/family bleh.

And yeah, I wanna have a BBQ at HD-Con/Halcy-con/whatever the name is.

personal detail stuff isn't a big thing for me, it's the smallest hurdle in the race as far as i'm concerned.

money, however, is the biggest hurdle. we need to nail down a time for when this would happen, assuming it picks up enough steam. once a time is picked out, we can look at costs surrounding that point and what we can do with them. the idea of a cruise was tossed around and solves any issue of what to do, where to stay, et cetera and i think it bears considering, even if it could be a bit expensive.

Putting a few concerns to rest. I am speaking not on behalf of those in charge of the event but as an individual with personal experience and history with planning such events and with circumstantial assumptions in place. If these assumptions are proven wrong I will edit this with all haste.

Money, would be lessened by the fact that this will in all likelihood not happen this year for simple fact of funding being a main problem, and booking venues and events would be another. This is something being brought forward with the fact in mind that this would not be an immediate product.

We're talking a year or so of planning and ensuring that those who say they attend will.

Location, will be solved and organized by a team of screened and selected individuals with experience in organizing such events previously. These individuals will be screened by another group of selected individuals who will act as administrators for the duration of the Convention.

Think of it as a chain of command similar to the Gotei within our own little fanon. Organizers are the Lieutenants and Administrators are the Captains, savvy?

Any further concerns or questions should be posted in this thread, please and thank you.

As Kago suggested in chat, one possibility is getting together on a cruise. This usually allows a couple different departure points, allows for multiple days with meals included (not snacks or alcohol) and different events/entertainment on the cruise itself. Price can vary from $300-600 or more depending on what kind/when we decide on.

Personally, I don't think I'll have that kind of money this year. With the vacation I just took, something else planned in the summer, and a certain wedding I plan to attend in the fall, I'm kinda tapped out.

However, I would like to do this, even if it's not until next year. That also gives everyone more time to prepare which means we may get an even better response. In the short-term, we could try to come up with a smaller get-together, and I'm open to suggestions.

As a more personal post, I'd like to put a few suggestions out for those interested in connecting with fellow and (potentially) nearby RPers:

1) Skype - This is an amazing tool for connecting with other RPers. If you haven't already, I'm sure you'll see myself, Several Zombies or any other members of the "League of Mangaden" club trying to get one of our other members onto Skype. Using this to talk, organize, and familiarize yourself with other people works great, and works even better when used alongside gaming.

2) Facebook - If this wasn't already common knowledge, Manga Den (and Halcyon Days) possesses a Facebook page for itself. Feel free to use it to share personal information or knowledge, get to know other members on the RP and whatnot.

3) Local Events - There are plenty of RPers who live within just a city or so of each other. If I can't stress one thing enough - talk to them! If you want to plan a get together with any nearby RPers check out local recreational centers, parks and other good meeting places. Ensure attendance, double check your timings and have a grand old time, but it all starts with you.

Personally? I have the unfortunate disadvantage of being one of the only RPers living on an island (you plan for a zombie apocalypse and this is what happens...) but it's been talked over many times about a few people coming up to meet me in Vancouver, but nothing ever came of it.

I encourage and recommend smaller groups get together to open up and share with the rest of the HD community. If you really want to dedicate yourselves to it? Make it a routine event! Monthly, weekly, bi-weekly, etc.

TENNESSEE HAM OMG.

but yea, the real problem is we're all so spread out that costs would be astronomical. Also those of us with jobs can't necessarily take a number of days off in a row.

I imagine I can literally drag Cheese along with this. As has been said, financing is an issue, but when considering the time we have to prepare, once the details are set there will likely be a decent amount of time to acquire funds.

As for personal contact, I don't really use Skype much because my family bothers me each time I log in (in the event my sister actually ever logs on and reads this post, she can assume I mean this lovingly) but I'm a part of the Facebook group.

Hmm... there is the possibility this might happen in-between my masters and whatever I do next, so there is a possible time to join in. However, as with everyone else, the problem is money. Slightly exacerbated by the fact I'm on the other side of the planet from everyone else.

The idea is to provide more than enough time to communicate with the necessary people for those with full-time (or even part-time) employment. That should not be an issue with the expected time frame once a concrete date is established. Similarly, the problem of funding should be less intensive with the idea in mind that there will be a rather large grace period by which you can save up the necessary money.

On the concern of location - this is a relative matter. Location is not concrete in any way at all - The United States is not necessarily where this will occur. That is a matter by which any number of outside or inside factors could influence.

I'm going to have to ask that you do not repeat the same concerns previously brought up as it brings needless clutter to this discussion. This thread's primary purpose is to express interest or disinterest in the concept of a Halcyon Days Convention.

Raph, while I appreciate all that you're doing to get this going and actually happen, the fact remains that you're all of what...twelve years old? The costs involved in this aren't minor and even given a massive amount of time to prepare I, for one, cannot be sure of having enough to be able to do this and whatever else I may have to at that time. Interest in this is directly proportional to its accessibility.

While your insights into my age are both appreciated and unnecessary, I assure you that given my own expenses (which are more than your presumptions might lead you to believe) the basic notion of the value of a dollar is not lost on me.

I whole-heartedly agree with you on the terms of accessibility, which is why I'm sure that every precaution will be made to ensure that costs as reasonable as the location.

As for my work done, I've stated before and I will state again that I am not doing this on behalf of those in charge of this event. I am doing this as someone with previous experience in organizing and participating in such events. Whether or not I am responsible for this event is not up to me, nor will I place myself in such a position to be unless someone wishes me to be.

This is not a discussion thread, Nate. If you'd like to bring further attention to an issue or concern of yours, please do so through Private Messages or a Messenger client, please.

While I'm not inclined on comparing this too Mootscon, theirs worked because most of them lived generally close to each other. If this thing's gonna pop off, the venue has to be somewhere a certain majority (hell, just 2 or 3 would do) of people live in, and at the same time, not be in some town in the middle of buttfuck nowhere. I assume a good number of people in HD live in the American midwest area, so there's an idea starter right there.

Not true amigo.

Hawai'i.

Toronto, bitches. Get on my level.

Anyways, I'm right down for this, but as you all know, I'm a starving student with a pretty big lack of time between work and school. Having just moved I'm obviously not in a position (financially) to arrange any big trips, especially ones that'll keep me out of town for any extended period of time. That being said, given a year or so prep time, nothing is really out of the question. I like the idea, and I'm willing to participate within reason (meaning reasonable travel distance).

Basically if this becomes a 'thing' in the next year or so, I'm in. Location is a big deal so we should probably think about WHERE most of those participating are concentrated and pick a location in that area. As for our overseas members (or boonie Canadian as the case may be, Colin), it seems a kind of ludicrous proposition to fly to a gathering of internet friends, but hey, if you've got the disposable income and the time to waste, why not? Make a vacation of it or something.

who are you to dictate anything, that's what I'm wondering. Raph, there needs to be public discussion before anything is even dreamed up. We need to find out what people are thinking beyond just interested: y/n.

Also: what sev said. Toronto.

There needs to be discussion on the event. Your concerns with Raph can be handled in private.

Nobody has said that money is not a factor, or time, or jobs. Those things have all been mentioned and discussed. Instead of saying, "It's impossible, because money," the rest of us have been trying to figure out, "what's the best way to make this happen?" If you don't want to or can't participate, it's a shame, but that doesn't mean no one can participate.

I live in Atlanta, GA and have a small, but very fuel efficient 4 door car. I wouldn't mind driving myself and 1-3 others on a road trip. Splitting the cost of gas in my car wouldn't be too costly and we could budget for food.

Location: If someone is able/willing, putting a map together and tracking our locations could help give us an idea of a location that is central to the majority interested.

Activities: We also need some ideas about what we are actually going to do if this happens! Some people can go to bars, some can't. Video games, treasure hunt, strip clubs? Gotta hash out those details!
