The RP here has a TV Tropes page. Well, that's daunting.

But the system looks good? It's very detailed; I've seen nothing like the grading system before in a RP. I'm awed, really.

I'm sure I'll have a dozen and one questions about a couple of things soon.

Welcome, Icarus! I look forward to those questions of yours, we have really helpful staff and members so those will be well-met. The system seems daunting but it's not and here's why: each system within the RP functions on its own, while contributing to the larger systems. So my advice is just take each question as it comes to you, the systems break down pretty simply and easily. Enjoy the forums!

Halcyon Days is nearly a decade running :P. That being said, it's not as scary as it looks! It's actually, dare I say, fun once you get into the thick of it. I'll probably come up with loads of questions over the next few weeks. I'm also a complete AIM virgin, so uh, I'll figure that out later.

I do wonder, though--for shinigami, is it more beneficial to join a division with more active members/actually has a Captain, or does it not really matter in the end?
 
Picking a division really comes down to what your character's drives and motivations are. Someone who aspires to be amazing at armed combat might not excel so well in the First Division, or someone who aims to become a master poisoner wouldn't be all that at home in the Eighth.

I'd say it's easier to figure out who your character is at first glance, and who they want to be, and then decide what division suits them best from there.

By the way, since I hadn't introduced myself yet: I'm Raph. Various doer of things and sayer of stuffs.

Science Captain here:

In most cases its probably beneficial to join a division with a captain/members and then transfer into the div you actually want IG once it gets taken. In other cases it can be a pain to get plot rolling.
 
Ignore all that advice. Join Tenth. Pay no mind to our almost-not-quite-state-of-emergency. We have telekinesis and women and a proud tradition of our Captains shamelessly plugging to new members..

Just small time ones that pop up in RPG-D from time to time, or recommendations from friends. I haven't RPed for a while, but I am trying to get back into the storytelling swing.

Well, see that's where being a Vizard comes in handy. You start in a division, with all the div perks (9th btw, great fun in 9th) then you one day obtain hollow powers! Uh oh, right!? You can't pal around with the shinigamis anymore, but don't worry! Instead you pal around with the Advents over at Cerberus! :Hypnoparrot:
