Reaching high into the sky, a strange metal monolith was free of any human life. Not a soul occupied the several buildings nor kilometers around them. This mysterious place, forgotten and distant from all the people of Tokyo who live and work in its shadow, was one of many lands around the world which would see the horrors of the clash of gods. The spire, in all its majesty, glistens in the artificial lights of night, and the revealing light of day.

The fresh shihakushou and first aid did enough to make the Captain look fairly decent, despite the burns left on her by Ilsa. That was a fight hard won, and she felt somewhat tired still. It worked well enough, since she still hadn’t gotten a chance to relax since that fight. She hoped Kyuketsu hadn’t either. Still she had a great ability at a distance, and expected that would help her do well. The Captain needed to avail herself of her own advice to the young foolish Enchanted Blade regardless: the Duelist was stronger than she was, she had to be smart. She had to press her advantages and deny him his.

Easily done, right?

Not exactly. She just released her shikai, the drawn sword blazing with light before contorting and solidifying into a scythe. The Mystic didn’t know how much the weapon would actually see use, she wanted to keep this clash of captains distant. The more distance between the redhead and the almost-albino swordmaster the more likely she was to not get cleaved in two.

Really that was her main goal.

The encounter at the Spire with the vizard proved rather eventful, and to that end, he had no further use of the place save for the next encounter placed on his list. It came as somewhat of a surprise for him to find his next conquest to be none other than the newly appointed captain of the Mystics, Adelaide Pierce. She had already proven her worth in the Duelist lord’s eyes even before her practical, given the usefulness she displayed against the beast Metanoia. While his respect for anyone else seemed questionable at best, there was denying his approval of the woman’s positioning and stance as a member of the Thirteen Court Guards.

Kyuketsu turned his head, amber clad eyes still spiraling with life gazing upon the figure of the Mystic Empress.

“Does the burden of captaincy feel heavy yet?” he teased. “You don’t have that ‘look’ on you so I’m guessing no. Uchiharu, Inuzuri, Katsuji, and even your predecessor Maikeru all had that thousand-yard stare in one form or another. Let’s change that, shall we?”

Thousand-year stare? She smiled a weak, half-hearted grin; “Guess I’m preoccupied with the present, then, eh?” Admittedly, the redhead wondered if that was one of those intrinsic things about being a Captain that simply wasn’t there for her. She was more deserving than some, that much was apparent, but measuring herself against Lilith still left her falling short. She didn’t wear the haori, she didn’t meet that standard, but she still represented the Mystics.

The invigoration of her weapon’s release was something she had desperately needed and it helped her feel more alive, focused and alert, but she still know she had a massive disadvantage in this fight. Maybe I shouldn’t have agreed to limiters? the Briton asked herself, but dismissed the idea as soon as it came to her. She only engaged in a single unfair fight, and that was more of a punishment than an actual fight. Neither Ilsa nor Kyuto had wronged her. Still, she imagined she would’ve been in better shape now if she hadn’t been kind before.

Not that there was any sense worrying about that now. “So, Tenth versus Eleventh, eh?” asked the Englishwoman as if there was any question about what this match was. The Eleventh were better at one-on-one combat than were the Tenth and Kyuketsu was stronger than Adelaide in terms of brute force. Haresuno had attempted to force the Captain’s new sister to prove the Tenth’s worth, but this was the setting for that challenge. Now it was on Adelaide to validate the Mystics and defeat one of the greatest sword masters to ever draw breath.

No pressure or anything.

She nodded to Kyuketsu, a small sign of a respect she felt was mutual. “Hope I can at least keep you entertained,” the Mystic said with a smile as energy began to flow into her scythe. She didn’t know which of them was going to start the battle, but she was already making sure to be prepared for it when it did begin.

Kenkyouka
Kenkyouka [Sword Empowerment]
Utilizing their own kidou energy, the practitioner has the ability to cast a kidou spell onto their blade; if cast silently, bypass rules apply as normal. Once the blade comes in contact with the opponent, the spell will automatically activate. Whatever damage or effects are done by sword and spell, will be unleashed on to the opponent. With continuous use of the technique, the caster will gain the ability to have two spells imprinted on their blade at one time, once the user gains 5k kidou or zanjutsu stat. The spell counts against the user's casts in the round it is imbued, not in the round it is released. The imbued spell cannot be released until the user's following turn at the earliest.

“Oh, I’m sure you will. So let’s not trifle about.” He smiled, seizing Tenzansatsu from its hibernated state and brandishing it before his peer. “...Ban Kai.”

Amidst the purest release of the Duelist lord’s zanpakutou manifested the breath and presence of the Eleventh. Adorning the swordsman’s scarlet luster was a billowing inferno, raw spirit energy transmuted into a scalding, blistering spike in the battlefield’s temperature. All moisture around them withered and vanished, cracks forming on the parched dirt that carried the weight of the two captains. From the countless swords to his own terrifying figure, dread and despair pulsated forward, violating the deepest, most private corners of Adelaide’s subconscious.

And then the raptor swooped in, talons rearing to tear apart flesh and bone.

A single swing came from Kyuketsu’s right blade, a dimensional stroke unchained by the laws of time and space. Its reach came instantaneous, touching upon the woman though standing meters away. From the left cleaver came a torrential conflagration crashing with speeds unbeknownst to the everyday creature. Driving the captain’s heels was a blink known by all as a senka. It brought him within reach of his quarry, a single blade diving to cleave from shoulder to waist.

[Scorched Earth] comes into play along with BK ability 1. Used BK attack 1 to instacut Addy from afar, plus a 4k rei laser courtesy of the other sword. Lastly, used senka for straightforward melee.

[Scorched Earth] The notion of ‘shock and awe’ is what instills meaning into a Duelist’s fighting mentality. It is a tenet which has been pounded into their hearts and minds to the point where it has become as instinctive to as breathing. As such, those under the banner of the Eleventh have developed within themselves an internal, unquenchable fire which aims solely to crush and rapidly dominate their foes. The very presence of a seasoned Duelist in the battlefield incites trepidation and unease within the enemy ranks, so much so that the land itself becomes subjugated to their power.

For the cost of 3% of their reiatsu per round, a user’s spiritual pressure morphs and grows denser as it further weighs down on the combat zone. This reflects as a dramatic increase in the area’s overall temperature to the point where nearby water even begins to boil and evaporate. The closer one is to the user (roughly 10 feet), the more intense the influence becomes, pushing them further and further into dehydration and heatstroke. In turn, as time progresses, this could inevitably cause one’s actions to stammer and falter.

Ability 1: The name of Kyuketsu’s Ban Kai alone breathes meaning to its capabilities. When wielding the many blades of Fuhen Souryokusen, both the weapons and its master emit an aura of unfathomable dread and lethality. By paying 1% of his reiatsu every turn, Kyuketsu produces a heightened ‘threat level’ of sorts which completely overtakes the cognitive senses of even the most seasoned of fighters. While purely psychological, for every stroke and every step, each movement by the swordsman endeavors to thoroughly pressure and crush the target’s morale.

With time itself becoming a factor, the longer the conflict ensues, the stronger the thought of panic and anxiety fills the victim. Through this, each swing comes off far more hazardous than the last, and every near miss and parry brings a freezing chill running down one’s spine.

Attack 1: With the staggering rise in its power, the scope of his zanpakutou’s edge is no longer limited to physical objects; instead, the very foundations of physics have now become susceptible to Kyuketsu’s blades. For a fraction of an instant, Fuhen Souryokusen warps the fabric of space and time, allowing its steel to cut instantaneously from a great distance. With a single swing once per turn, Kyuketsu can strike at targets as far as 25 meters away with full force as if he himself was standing right before them. This costs the user 1,000 reiatsu per slash.

[Radiance] – Trained As a fundamental ability bestowed on all shinigami, one must be capable of manipulating the flow and exertion of their spiritual energy. This reflects primarily in the usage of a zanpakutou release, kidou, or otherwise. However, to excel beyond these measures would mean controlling one’s reiatsu at the most basic and elementary level—particularly by channeling it from their arms into their weapons. Those trained in Radiance are able to release their spiritual energy into corporeal form, in this case a fiery beam of energy whose strength corresponds to its user.

By giving up 5% of one’s current reiatsu, a Radiance practitioner can unleash a wave of raw power directly at a target 10 meters away which deals damage equivalent to its cost. As a rule of thumb, the speed in which the attack travels is proportionate to the user’s zanjutsu or hakuda proficiency, depending on what school their sword release is based on. As a nod to a similar ability shared by their Hollow nemesis, the color of a shinigami’s Radiance attack depends entirely on the user, although the default shade remains at light blue.

Shit shit shit shit!

By the time Adelaide was aware of the coming attacks, she already was hit on the side. She was faster than him, but he had surprise on his side. She leapt into action, though and used her own speed to evade him. She launched herself to the side, toward one of the buildings, and though she could evade the attack the Duelist physically launched, the shockwave was wide enough that it knocked her out of the air and into the ground.

“Blue Mist!” she shouted as she fell. Hopefully the cover bought her some time. Especially since she smacked into the earth rather hard. Damn and double damn he wasn’t being very sportsmanlike. Then again, he was the Captain of the Eleventh, she really shouldn’t have expected sportsmanship. Even fully released he was going to dwarf her in power now, so she couldn’t afford to maintain shikai. She had to match his escalation.

Caries Sanctimonia Lashiel,” she all but whispered as she pushed herself back to her feet, “Bankai.”

The blue mists concealed the visual display of a scythe, mirrored and maddened by power. He wouldn’t see the long black coat or the darkened hair Adelaide wore. The fog she summoned was too think for him to see the wings of heatless flame on her back from this distance. Her side and back were cut and bleeding, but not as severely as it might’ve been, her focus needed to be on keeping the situation in her control, not on her pain. She couldn’t win if he controlled the fight.

For that matter, she likely couldn’t survive if he controlled the fight.

Blue Mist
Blue Mist
Bakudou #2, 25 Kidou
Covers a 3m radius area with a thick blanket of blue mist, which centers on the target, making it virtually impossible to see normally. The mist lasts for 10 seconds initially, but gains an additional ten seconds for every 100 the user has in kidou.
The range of the move also increases to 12m when the user reaches 1000 in kidou.

The area is covered in mist for 21.25 minutes (42.5 bypassed)

She Shunpo'd away from your Senika.

He felt his initial blows land, though the summoned fog made it impossible to make out any sort of retaliation on Adelaide’s part. The words of her final release hung in the air like a foreboding promise, a declaration which coalesced the strongest essence of the Mystics. It was to the swordsman captain’s surprise, however, that he encountered no sort of counterattack or succeeding offensive. He was vulnerable in that blinded state, yet there came no ploy eager to take advantage of his situation. Taking once more to his feet, Kyuketsu leaped away from the mist’s epicenter, vanishing in a shunpo and appearing atop one of the Spire’s many pointed platforms.

“While I hold no sense of antipathy against you, Captain Pierce,” he began, attempting to pinpoint the woman’s location amidst the azure cloud, “You’ve yet to apologize for that one incident awhile back. You know... when you fucked with my squad grounds.”

The myriad of swords impaled atop the battlefield began to tremble, willed to life by their master’s own commandeering presence. Virulence warped their very design, power imbued deep into each and every piece of steel as they shot up all in unison atop the skies. Staining the firmament were ninety eight blades, shimmering stars glistening with odious premonition. From behind Kyuketsu, a phantasmal apparition came into view, a floating revenant with claws both fearsome and cruel. A single arm reached into the captain’s shihakushou, snatching a small crystalline orb whose very existence beckoned and awakened the internal fires present in all creatures. The sphere was displayed forward for the Mystic captain to see, its powers coming into effect the instant it was seen.

“...And you never fuck with what’s mine.”

Note
Got the fuq out of the mist with a shunpo. Also, activated both of my unique items, with the orb in particular making Addy go aggro. Lastly, since my last attack hit, placing a mark on Addy's wound so [Lockdown] can be activated in the future.

[1] [Vitruvian Cross] – Unique, S Class
A six inch silver cross measured evenly from all four arms. The metallic substance which makes up the piece is adorned with a series of scarlet lines, all intricately designed from tips to center. The middle point is encrusted with a gem of some kind, appearing more like an artificial ebony eye complete with all the features of such.

Upon evoking the item’s power, the cross disintegrates into a fine dust which then encircles the owner. It gathers and materializes spiritual energy around it, eventually amassing just behind its user’s shoulders. It finally morphs into the bifurcated upper body of a gray-shaded apparition originating and remaining directly from the shinigami’s back. The manifestation’s appearance, twisted and macabre, bears a muscular feature with spiked protrusions running from its shoulders down its spine. Appendages twice the size as Kyuketsu’s, the phantom’s intended purpose is to act as a second pair of arms readily available to the soul reaper. It acts on the user’s every command, and though coming off as translucent, the fortified reiatsu that makes up the being is decidedly solid and durable. This costs 1,000 reiatsu to activate.

Should Kyuketsu choose to pay an additional 500 reiatsu for a single turn, the phantom can momentarily gain heightened raw strength be it through picking up some heavy items with ease or with just any general action.

Once no longer needed, the apparition crumbles down to form once more the cross.

[2] [Orb of Ignition] – Unique, A Class
A small metallic orb (roughly smaller than a golf ball). Its exterior showcases a smooth, even surface with a mirror-like tint which reflects everything around it in perfect clarity. The sphere constantly gives off a cold, almost frozen aura to all who touch it.

The Orb of Ignition serves but one purpose: to set ablaze one's soul. If the user pays 1,000 reiatsu, he can choose one specific individual to target the sphere's influence. If the said individual sees their casted reflection over the orb's surface, he or she will immediately garner a raging, unknown urge to attack the sphere's owner for the following three rounds. The compulsion is decidedly powerful, but not unbreakable. The target can choose to pay 1,000 of their own reiatsu to be set free from the 'curse.'

The fog was dense, and she heard him calling out from beyond it. It was an amusing notion – Adelaide had fought with someone who had visited harm, perhaps irreparable, upon one of her members, and he brought the same determination to bear against her for temporarily removing a feature whose technical presence upon his grounds was something she disputed.

The Captain reached out to her opponent with her mind, effortlessly maintaining her hidden location in the process; When I ‘fucked’ with it, the Mystic’s words rang in his mind, it wasn’t a part of your grounds anymore, was it? Of course she knew what he meant, he meant the week or so she left Arimanthium in a pocket dimension, a reality all unto itself. If he knew she was capable of that, he would be silly to think she was an easy mark here.

She needed to be able to see her adversary despite her own haze, a simple enough chore for a caster as versed as herself. “Mage Eye,” the words were a whisper, followed by a bit of movement, slow and determined, in case his senses were augmented somehow. The blue that overtook her green eyes meshed so well with the fog she wondered if she’d have noticed it herself. Red wouldn’t do, he was dropping arid heat like he was using her own skill set, and if she light him up then she would effectively blind herself. Green had hardly ever been useful in her career as a kidouist, so blue it was. The color of the mists.

She would’ve been content to let him wander aimlessly into her trap or waste his countless swords above trying to blindly hit her had she not saw two things when her gaze gained the ability to pierce the mist. First, she saw another creature – it had to be his, if it was a hollow she was certain the match would’ve halted. Second, she saw... she saw...

Suddenly two of her scythe’s chains lashed outward, slithering and weaving through the mist to keep her exact position still as unclear as possible. They would be easy for him, they would be nothing, still she was overcome with hate, with rage. She wanted him to recognize her, to know that she was Captain, with or without the approval of others, with or without the haori, with or without her division’s love Adelaide had to assert herself as Captain.

The chains weren’t just a doomed-to-fail assault, however. Adelaide was smarter than that, even overcome with a sudden need to vanquish the Duelist. No, she reached out to a street light, its glow visible in the early hours of dusk, and ripped it right from the ground with her mind, swinging it like a giant golf club at Kyuketsu as well. Three attacks from three different angles, converging at different times, different speeds, different vectors. She wanted to make things as complicated for him as possible in the hopes that a single strike landed.

Mage Eye
Bakudou #5, 35 Kidou
Upon casting, the user selects a spectrum, either Red, Blue or Green. The user's eyes start turn the selected color, distorting their vision.
With red eyes, the eyes are tuned to track heat signatures, viewing things in the infrared spectrum.
With green eyes, the eyes are tuned to see in relative darkness, acting like night vision goggles. Ambient light is greatly magnified, allowing the user to see in great darkness.
With blue eyes, the eyes are attuned to a spectrum of reiatsu, similar to heat vision. Objects which have no reiatsu or have cloaked reiatsu will appear as black, while sources of reiatsu glow blue.
The spell lasts until the user cancels it.

Soshi [Elements]
Soshi refers to the purest elements of the spiritual realm that culminate into telekinesis -- the most basic, fundamental ability required of a shinigami to become a Mystic. A shinigami's journey in the Tenth begins with a keen awareness of the universe and an exceptional talent in reiatsu manipulation. The Mystic must be able to harness their spiritual energy and apply it in anomalous ways to the physical world.
With Soshi, the Mystic learns to move objects with their mind. Its range of effect is within a 15-meter radius. Soshi is capable of lifting large, bulky objects like wardrobes or benches with ease; at 5,000 reiatsu, this extends to being capable of lifting and throwing objects up to a mid-sized car. It costs the Mystic 200 reiatsu to perform this ability per turn. The reiatsu of others acts as a repellent to this ability, therefore, at no point can Soshi be used to levitate other spiritual creatures or people.

Why was she here.

More of a tired statement than a question by the time the former Templar Queen made her way to the railing on the roof of a nearby building. She wasn't here to gloat, or impart any lesson or world weary conveyance of thought. She certainly wasn't here to intervene if things got ugly between the two. Should that have bothered her more? For that matter, at all?

Kyuketsu was her hand-picked replacement. Her hand, even. Why was the very sight of him making her blood boil? What had happened to the boy she had chosen to lead in her stead? Had he truly changed so radically in absence of her shadow? Scarier still, had that boy ever really existed or had it all been another case of Tsubaki simply seeing what she wanted to see?

No words left her lips as the former Captain of the Eleventh Division watched the unfolding match. She was in no mood for them and regardless there was no one present to listen.

At least Adelaide was easy enough not to get along with. Hating every facet of the Mystic's presence was as simple as breathing anymore. The only discrepancy in her observation was whom she should root for, which sorted itself out with almost frightening speed.

Neither.

[217]

And so an ebony and ivory colored falcon descended from the skies, roosting on Tsubaki's shoulder without hesitation. Its feathers did not carry their usual sun-born gleam, as the grey clouds overhead prevented the light of the day from adding its usual luster to Satoru's wings. He vaguely wondered if Tsubaki had ever seen an Animagus before, but he figured that the hardened sword master wouldn't be too surprised at one more talking beast.

He watched the two Captains with a focused gaze, but it was clear that the Mystic was eager to watch for a victor rather than cheer for one person or the other. Satoru had met Kyuketsu exactly once before, but the philosophy he had so eagerly argued in favor of spoke volumes about how the man would fight. Viciously. Mercilessly. Unrestrained.

The dual final releases only served to confirm his purpose. Suddenly, the Mystic was glad that he had decided to go for an aerial view rather than a ground booth.

"Mabara Tsubaki, we meet again," the bird stated with eyes still locked on the battlefield. "You look downright glum! Shouldn't you be glad that your man gets a chance to fight and potentially defeat my Captain, whom you obviously don't hold in the highest regard?"

"The talking bird again. Great, I was beginning to think I might be going crazy." The woman regarded the creature with a momentary glance, then turned her attentions back towards the ongoing fracas.

"Your information is a bit out of date though, Polly. Kyuketsu isn't my man." Her eyes sharpened momentarily as the recollection of their previous encounters replayed in her mind.

"Not anymore."

[64/281]

Physicality was unbecoming of one versed better in the demon arts. Kyuketsu was far too familiar with such tactics, far too entrenched in the notions and intricacies of moving against such dangers. His swings were accelerated beyond measure, scattering at all sides with elegant, yet ruthless precision. It took but a single blade—a single arm—to utterly dismantle the Mystic captain’s three-pronged attack.

The chains of Lashiel, driven weary by the barrage, were quickly snatched by the two phantom arms floating behind Kyuketsu. Grips tightened and unwavering, the revenant tugged back, the tethers’ lengths pointing to their opposite ends, to where their user stood and waited.

The raptor’s eyes sharpened, a golden gaze locking down on a specific area still blotted out by the mist. Though he could not see his quarry’s entirety, at times precision wasn’t always necessary. At times... a mindless, indiscriminate wave of chaos was all that was needed to deliver what was sought.

“There you are,” he jeered, licking his lips callously to the thought.

A single stroke of the sword followed his words, and in its wake lashed out yet another torrential downfall, splashes of a purging blaze which dared to extinguish all in its way. From above, upon Kyuketsu’s command, a hail of steel shot forth with unbridled rancor, their talons tearing away at the heavens as swiftly, mercilessly, they fell back to earth. The storm of swords descended on the spot pointing to where Adelaide stood, and like the deluge of cold, all-encompassing rainfall, escape seemed nearly nonexistent.

Used Buuzei versus the chains and lamp post. Phantom arms then went and grabbed the chains and pretty much used them to determine your general location. Laser beam shot at the direction following to where the chains pointed, and BK attack used to drop buncha swords on her location. While it won't be completely accurate, there's still ninety eight of em falling down, so some are bound to connect.

[ Buzei ] - "Outnumbered"
...but not out-manned. A difficult and risky maneuver, the practitioner accelerates their swing in order to deliver an attack on all sides. This allows the user to attack or defend against all attackers within range at half of their usual skill.

This maneuver costs 2,000 reiatsu and may leave the user tired, unable to perform similar techniques for two rounds.

Attack 3: Though limited in using all of Fuhen Souryokusen’s swords, for a time, Kyuketsu may be able to utilize all of them at once in a resounding, utterly dominating offensive against the enemy. By giving up 15% of his reiatsu Kyuketsu can rally the remainder of the weapons to shoot up high into the sky, staying there for a whole turn. Once the next phase comes to pass, all summoned swords will rain down on a target with tremendous force, dealing the same amount of damage equivalent to its cost along with the piercing descent of their numerous blades. With its use comes a three-turn cool down period.

The moment the chains went taut, two things happened. The first was that Adelaide elected for a ‘now or never’ approach with her Kenkyouka, sending silvery flecks of light along the chains until they reached their destination. The other was she needed to fucking move. He could follow her movements as long as he held on to her chains, but she didn’t have time to worry about that now. She made a run through her fog, her eyes fixed on the energy beam she was dead-set on avoiding, and for that exclusive thinking she was sadly unaware of the swords of Damocles falling at her head.

Once the first one clipped her in-motion leg, it definitely slowed her down, but she became a lot more agile, aware now of the falling swords and doing her best to dodge them. As long as he followed her, he could target them toward her general direction, so a new tactic was quickly becoming necessary.

Thankfully, when the silvery light reached the big creature at Kyuketsu’s back, a new tactic began. From the chains exploded outward silver and black fire, the dark dragon of flame that had become as associated with Adelaide as fire itself, which immediately engulfed the duelist and his pet. That might’ve been helpful.

From a disused support beam left behind by a ruined building, Adelaide began to swat the swords from the sky that got too close, but a more effective shield would’ve been really nice. Worse still the sounds it made were giving away her position. She needed another distraction, something more helpful. Oh, like this. “Daishuu!” she called out, aiming the big black arrow at the now-burning Kyuketsu, and hopefully sending him painfully into the spike-ridden spire. She was damned if she was going to be the only one hurting.

The user stretches out his hand and his arm is covered in coruscating blackness. With a screeching hiss, the ebon flames are unleashed in the shape of a ravenous black dragon, flying up to 20m. Upon contact, the hungry fires will burn for three rounds, unquenchable by normal means.
It takes an ability of a greater cost than Kokuryuha to extinguish the black flames.

Soulfire
Soulfire is the enhanced form of Hellfire. At the cost of 3% of her reiatsu per turn, Adelaide can augment all her kidou. While using Soulfire, Adelaide cannot use Lashiel's Shadow or Flames of Passion. As Soulfire is active, cosmetic flecks of silver light float around Adelaide and the scythe. Kidou used while Soulfire is active cost twice as much, and become twice as effective in terms of scope and magnitude. Chromatic fire and actual fire-based kidou may instead cost triple the normal and have triple the normal effectiveness.

Kokuryuha * Soulfire = 5250 burning for three turns.
