[10th/C] Week 157: Adjuchas Round 1: Hashira Riki vs. Kimura Katsumi

As the shocks ran through his body, he felt the cables unwillingly release their captive and allow his escape. He frowned as the ground neared him, before tapping the final scroll on his belt and muttering to himself just as he hit the tree-line. “Mujuuryou…”

His descent stalled, halting an otherwise fatal drop for a few moments as he took in his opponent’s cushioned landing before he bounced away into the dense underbrush. Finally, the spell lost effect as he too dropped below the sea of trees. He impacted hard before rolling to a stop. The dense woodlands forced him to lose all visual contact with his opponent, and after he had calmed down his mind once more began to race with ideas.

Turning to a nearby tree, he sized it up and proportioned how much of it he could throw. Answer being not a lot, he promptly began to cut the tree down to size using the cables on his back. A few moments later, he was the proud owner of at least six large tree-discuses. Leaning them against a nearby rock, he patiently waited for his slowed and partially paralyzed opponent to near him.

A nice time to continue to regenerate his wounds.

Oushurin Reiatsu: 2250 (MAX)

As the boy felt Riki's reiatsu literally plummet, the numbness within his leg started ebbing away. About time! He hated it when his limbs didn't listen to him. He was their master and they were actually his! Shouldn't they obey him? With a gasp, the Thirteenth Seat painfully raised himself… only to stumble. Gathering all his willpower and repelling the frustration, the boy tried again… feeling was returning to his leg.

Within a few moments, he caught a glance of those tentacle… things. Silently walking forwards, Katsumi caught site of the gaunt man's body. Slipping the small glass phial out of his pocket, he drank the contents of Ien. "Rikujoukourou!" he quickly shouted. Six beams of light embraced existence and slammed into the awakened human. "Carriage of thunder! Gap of the spinning wheel! Divide this light into six pieces."

Immediately, the six pillars slammed into him a moment before Oushurin could take effect. Another moment later, and the six lights had shattered utterly. Riki gasped in pain as agony shot down his spine, but forced himself to remain upright. As Singula looked about to wear off, Riki quickly pumped his veins with his second vial of it, and so the cables remained.

Almost immediately afterwards, two of the large discs were stuck on the cables and flung at his opponent. A third was spun towards his opponent by his own hands.

Katsumi's eyes widened in horror as the three circles of death raced to him. Hobbling to the right and dropping down, he let two of them go past him. With the other one, however, he was not so lucky. The heavy tree-chunk hit his left shoulder, and he could hear something crack. The disc fell to the ground and rolled away.

Gasping as his shoulder throbbed, the boy kept his eyes on his focus. The pain was seeping in… but he needed to finish the fight. Chances of winning were slim, but they were still there. Freeing a tree from its eternal paralysis, Katsumi made it and its branches bend enough for his vine arm to wrap around it. The green tendril receded into his arm as the tree returned back to its position. Now he was hidden within the branches, wondering what to do…

[145/1,862]

He observed his opponent scramble atop the tree with a new sense of disgust. Cowardice, after pulling such a cheap shot so early in the battle? He wasn’t fighting a man of any sort, he was fighting a coward. A coward that fled when his plans didn’t go as intended. A frown smeared itself across his face as he approached the tree with a new pair of discs attached to the cables and promptly slashed at it with his armoured hands.

A moment later the tree had toppled sideways and another few wooden discs had been made. He dragged backwards on what was left of the trunk, unable to lift it but still able to drag it towards him. As the head of the tree came into sight, so too did the boy still regaining his bearings. The blue glow of Styx intensified as the pre-attached discs soared towards their target. Attaching another pair of the things to the cables, he charged.

Cowardice was to be punished, after all.

No! The word flitted through Katsumi's brain in the small instant between which the tree fell and he came out. Is that the way he's making those discs? Immediately scrambling to his feet, the boy tried to shorten the distance between him and cover as fast as he could.

As the safety of a large trunk came into view, he stumbled sideways, feeling one of the disks hit his left shoulder again, followed by the other one. "ARGH!" he cried out in pain. He could feel crimson blood leak out of his mouth. This needed to stop. As the indiscernible shadow of one of the many countless trees gave him temporary shelter, he once again used his zanpakutou's ability.

The human that came charging at him met a myriad of branches from overhead and a legion of sturdy roots from below. Two trees had sprung to life, intent on vengeance. The branches caught the man's arms and the roots wrapped around his legs. Then, with an almighty creak, he was thrown backwards in the direction of another tree so that he would meet a hard smash.

The trees efforts were ended before they could stand a chance. The bladed nature of Phlegethon sliced through any branches that dared attempt to interfere with his solid charge towards his opponent, slicing clean through the tree the boy had crawled behind. No more mercy, no quarter given. This boy would die, quickly and painfully. Bringing the two lodged discs of wood around to bear, the first slammed into the boy against his left arm, shattering the shoulder blade and crushing it against the ground the boy was lying on.

The second slammed into the boy’s other arm, and as the vine protruding from said arm moved to defend its wielder, his arm shot up to grab it. He frowned, before his other arm came down and promptly sliced the limb in half, leaving the boy to cry out in agony. The two cables dislodged themselves, letting gravity work its magic against the boy as Riki quickly struck before anything could be done in the boy’s defence.

The first cable lanced completely through the boy’s stomach, causing any words on his lips to die instantly. The second didn’t miss its mark either, jabbing clean through the boy’s upper chest to pierce what was likely a lung, his liver, or his heart. Topping off his lethal assault, his armoured and blade-like hand shot out, cleanly cutting into the boy’s throat and windpipe.

He gurgled a moment, writhing vainly as if to try and sustain himself. Riki saw the blood begin to jet past his hand, spraying out for a moment before simply bubbling the blood outwards and retracting into the boy’s destroyed windpipe. Finally, his opponent lay still, his body utterly destroyed.

As he plucked his hand from the boy’s throat and allowed Singula C to retract itself, he took in the boy’s appearance. One looking so young...so like himself...a shame only one could survive. He looked to the cliff, where he had left his jacket and with it his cigarettes. He moved towards what appeared to be a staircase, wincing ever so slightly in his stride as his wounds continued to grieve him. Nothing the medics couldn’t fix up...unlike his opponent.

He spared not a glance back, knowing it was only one of the dozens of lives he had already ended with his hands before, and the hundreds he was responsible for.

FINAL [392/2682]

Getting up, the Chairman, ran forward into the field, glancing at the Theos with a grin on his face. If it was not for the fact that his Vice-Chairman looked like he was about to die, he would of most likely taken the almost dead shinigami and drag him back for testing.

Running forward, he caught up with the limping man. “Well you did not screw this one up,” said the cloaked man, patting him on the back… right on a wound… Riki cringed from the sudden pain, as Ciro began to chuckle. “Good thing you did not lose, or else it was back in the Annex for you.”

He began to walk forward, fully aware that he had ruined the moment. Though, it was the thing that he would normally do. Dramatic endings like this one were not his style. “Now let us head back…” spoke the Italian, walking down the path, “Just make sure not to bleed a lot on the way back…”
