Age: 78

Physical Stature: Mingzhu has darker skin for an Asian, the color being only a couple shades lighter than mocha. Her eyes are dark brown (almost black), and are slanted upwards. They look a bit like cat eyes. Her lips are pulled into a perpetual frown, eyebrows furrowed together just as constantly. She's absolutely tiny, four foot ten inches. She's slightly bony, and the only meat upon her bones is some muscle. Her hair is probably the weirdest part of her, though. She wears it up in two buns on each side of her hair. From the bottom of said buns, she has three braids that come down to her shoulders. Her fringe constantly falls across her eyes. They also have a tendency to be a bit messy and all over the place. Her voice is slightly scratchy and breaks occasionally when she uses it too much.

Persona: She is an extremely grouchy young lady. In fact, "lady" is a horrible choice of words for her. She's rude, she swears, she flips people off, she screams... she's not a very good girl. She has fairly low self esteem, but she generally doesn't let it show. She also is very independent. She hates asking for help. If someone offers, she'll take it, but she generally doesn't like to admit that she might need some help. She's also very stubborn, as you might have guessed. If you're gonna get in her way, then she might just punch your face in. She gets violent and screams when she's angry, often cursing at people in Chinese. She often slips into her native tongue when she gets overly emotional.

In reality, she does have soft side. That soft side, however, is a huge secret. She doesn't like anyone to see it. You would most likely see it if she was talking with a child or if she was gazing up at the sky, all alone at night. However, the instant you would make yourself known, she would put on her "tough girl" facade once more.

Biography: As a young girl, in life, Mingzhu was brought up in San Francisco. By the time she was nine, she realized that she liked girls. At first she thought it was no big deal, but, as she grew up, she discovered that it actually was. Not only that, but her parents continually took her over to a richer Chinese boy's house. They were obviously hoping that she would marry him when she grew up, which she was rather against, not only because he was a boy, but also because he was quite rude and hit her a lot. Any time she would say something back or hit him in return, her parents would yell at her that she wasn't being a lady and was ruining their futures for retirement. Because of the constant verbal abuse from her parents and slight physical abuse from her almost fiancé, she found herself having a lot of bottled up rage. More often than not, she would get into fights at school with girls and boys, usually coming out as the victor.

There was one time, you see, when she lost. This single time she lost was to a young woman named Casey Johnson. The instant that Casey pinned the other girl down, Mingzhu found herself breathlessly enchanted by the other girl. The girl was, as some might say, a bit of a bad girl. She generally wore black leather pants with a matching jacket and some form of t-shirt under it. Her hair was cut short like a boy's. Even so, the way her hips curved so sensually and the swelling of her breasts were enough to announce her womanhood. With each passing moment, Mingzhu fell harder and harder for the other girl, especially what with the other girl seeming to be flirting with her back. It wasn't long after that that they began going out. Secretly, of course, neither of their parents would have stood for that.

They were found out just before Mingzhu's sixteenth birthday. Casey was kicked out of her house while Mingzhu was confined to her own. During the day, Mingzhu would have to hear her parents constantly screaming at her or beating her, hoping to make her straight. Casey would often sneak into Mingzhu's room during the night to comfort the small girl. However, Mingzhu's depression was getting so bad that she would steal a kitchen knife from a drawer and cut herself in the bathroom. She started constantly wearing long sleeves so her parents wouldn't yell at her even more than they already did.

It was then that Casey had a brilliant idea. Why not commit suicide? If they couldn't be together in life, then why not be together in death? Eventually, Casey managed to get ahold of some suicide pills. Casey managed to sneak Mingzhu out of her own house, taking her to the part that Casey slept in when she couldn't sleep at Mingzhu's. There, they both swallowed their pills. There they died together.

Mingzhu awake in the Soul Society, near the bottom rack. She really had no idea who she was, where she was from, or anything. She vaguely remembered a girl with short hair, but not much else. Any time she thought about the girl for too long, she would start to have headaches. She felt the need to find this person, although for what reason, she wasn't entirely sure. She slowly began to feel as though becoming a shinigami would be the only way too find this person. She had no idea why, but she needed to find her. She had to find her.

Division / Seat: 11th (unseated)

Zanpakutou: Her Zanpakutou is rather short, probably only a foot and a half long. The hilt is a entirely black chinese dragon raising out of the blade. The blade itself is silver and curves down and then up, but only slightly. The best description for it would be a very strange looking cutlass.

Reiatsu: 100

Sampler Writing (1059 words):

The black haired girl's hands trembled as she peered at the small pill between her thumb and her forefinger. It was white and slim and smooth and plain and it was probably the most horrible thing she had ever seen in her entire life. It was a curious thing, to hold such a venomous little tablet between your fingers. It... it was as though she were holding her fate. A fate that had already been decided. A fate that she could not possibly change. A fate that she had absolutely no choice but to live by. Or, perhaps, in this situation, she had no choice but to die.

Her eyes trailed up to the girl in front of her. This might be one of the last times she saw her. This.. this beautiful girl. This girl that she had sworn to never be without. Even in death, they would always be together. That's what they had promised, wasn't it? They would always be together. There was no way that they could ever be parted.

"Are you scared?" The taller woman asked, her voice hushed despite them being alone in the middle of the park. Perhaps it was the lack of sound that compelled her to do so; at this time at night, most were asleep.

"Of course I am," Mingzhu whispered, rolling the poison between her fingers. "We don't know what will happen after this. I don't believe in an afterlife, Casey. I know you think that somehow we'll go to heaven, but I... I'm just not sure..."

The green eyed woman smiled ever so gently now, lightly tucking the other girl's hair behind her ear. "Trust me. God can't hate us. We haven't done anything bad. All we did was love each other. That's not horrible, is it? No, no, of course it's not! How can love be a sin? I don't believe that, Ming." She leaned down to press her forehead to the short woman's. "I know you don't believe it, but we're going to heaven. Together. I promise. And since when have I ever broken a promise to you?"

Mingzhu tried her best to not fall even harder for the other girl. It was so difficult... ever since eighth grade, she had been unable to keep her eyes off the sexy and yet tomboyish Casey Johnson. The girl that everyone else stayed away from because she wore pants to school, because she would smoke in the bathroom, because she had her hair cut so short... she was someone that a "proper lady" like Mingzhu should have stayed away from. Perhaps that was what made the attraction so strong; they were complete and utter opposites.

Until, that is, her parents found out. They instantly informed Casey's parents, who already suspected her of being a lesbian. The taller girl was thrown out, but not after having been beaten quite harshly by her father. Mingzhu managed to sneak her in for the night, but knew she wouldn't be able to do it again. Casey ended up sleeping at the park (the very one they were in) most nights. Occasionally, they both got lucky as Casey was able to sleep with Mingzhu in her room. Casey was never there in the morning, which was somewhat to Mingzhu's disappointment, although she did understand.

Mingzhu was not so lucky. Her parents were excruciatingly strict with her, to the point that she wasn't allowed outside the house, even to go to school. She often stayed within the confines of her room, hugging her knees and squeezing her eyes shut. Her mother and father often came in, but never to speak with her. Always to just scream at her. They usually yelled at her for being unladylike, but... having her parents yell at her because of her lesbianism was a whole new spectrum of insults. She had heard so many... new words.

The black haired girl had felt so abandoned, so alone... all of her friends from school left her the instant they found out how she felt about girls. They had shunned her, they hadn't even tried to come over. Parents often came over to say their condolences about Mingzhu, telling her parents that perhaps they should try beating it out of the young girl. Which, of course, they were already doing.

The anger and rage boiled inside of her completely and utterly. She had been unable to take it out on her parents, nor could she possibly take it out on Casey, whom she loved too much to possibly let out any animosity upon; in fact, being that she seemed to be so alone and by herself constantly, the only person she could let it out upon was herself. And she did, all over her arms and her legs. Much to the point that she found herself wearing long sleeved shirts and long skirts, even during the summer.

The only thing during that time that had kept her sane during that time was Casey; oh, the wonderful, the lovely, the gentle, the kind Casey... the most amazing woman in the world. The woman who loved her fully, the woman who was so kind to her, the woman who truly and completely accepted her for what she was. Despite her being such an angry, hateful, and detested person... Casey still loved her for some reason that was beyond her. During the time they had been together, she felt better than she had her whole life.

"Let's get married in the next life," Casey whispered, closing her pale green eyes. She slowly raised the pill up to her large lips, pressing it against them before whispering, "Let's always be together now."

"Okay," Mingzhu whispered. She also closed her dark brown eyes. She pressed the small pill to her lips, trembling. She pushed it between her lips, opening her teeth just enough to allow it to pass through that small gap. She swallowed ever so slowly, but not before playing with it slightly with her tongue. She could feel it slide down her throat. She was now going to die.

Gently, Casey took the girl's arms and lead her down into a sitting position. Casey sat next to her, slowly wrapping an arm around her waist. She kissed the side of her face gently, eyes closed. Mingzhu felt numb, to be honest, so she really couldn't feel it. All she knew is that her insides were burning, burning, burning...

"I love you," Casey whispered. "Never forget that. No matter what may come next. I love you."

"And I love you," Mingzhu whispered back. And she could remember no more.

Hey Kero,

I'm CAD! *Trumpets sound* I'll be taking care of your app. I've got some work to do first but keep an eye on this post, as I'll update it later today with your first notes!

Welcome!

edit: here we go!

Age: good

Physical Stature: Great description, very vivid.

Persona: She seems like a very strong personality and very distinct. Good!

Biography: Ok, Kero, this is a great back story and is certainly something that can really bury into one's soul but it's important to know that a new soul, born into Soul Society, has no memory of it's past life. It's very, very rare that one can remember anything and, even then, it's not a full, crystal clear picture. Issues like repressed sexuality/gender identity, family issues, love and death can be traumatic enough to carry over but I would suggest that you don't make this too easy and convenient for Zeng. If she's going to be driven by this, it would fly a little easier (and make for a better read) if she had this eternal, unknown tugging at her heart - something at the back of her mind that she always goes to - that drives her to discover what it is.

Division / Seat: 12th is totally better but if you want to want to hang around the crotch-grabbin Kyuketsu, more power to ya!

Zanpakutou: Sounds great!

Stats: They add up

Sampler Writing (1059 words):

Below are a few sentences that you should rephrase - THEY AINT WERKIN! Your grammar, punctuation and syntax are great but there are a few sentences, throughout, that you end with prepositions. They don't sound inappropriate but, technically, they are. Consider switching them around in the sentence?

It was white and slim and smooth and plain.

Mingzhu tried not fall harder for her.

She had been unable to take it out on her parents, nor could she possibly take it out on Casey, whom she loved too much to possibly let out any animosity upon.

The only thing during that time that had kept her sane during that time was Casey.

Post here after you've made a few changes and I'll be back!

Will said we could comment now, so Cad Men,
The only thing during that time that had kept her sane during that time was Casey.
Fix'd.

Hello there, I am head app staff.

"Are you scared?" The taller woman asked,

Just a note, this is one sentence. It should be, "Are you scared?" the taller woman asked,

Notice that the 'the' is lower case. Yes, even though the spoken dialogue ends in a ?, the rest of the sentence is still the same, and capital words only come in the beginning.

Now then, that chapter was all sad. :( But it was well done, though I think you overused the ellipsis (...) a tad.
