And the intense waters crashed against the two women, tearing at them with their crashing force. Water, once soothing, in extreme situations could tear the skin off bones without remorse. That was the potential of water, which doused flames. And the Captain was doused, sliced, ripped, torn and beaten by the water which drowned her fires in more than one way. At least Ilsa was with her.
She hit what was left of a conveyer and held out her scythe in front of her to meet the Arcanist. It wasn’t a violent gesture, but it was going to easily hurt almost as much as slamming her back into a big plate of metal while the waves of Ilsa’s torrential spell tore at her. She could feel the machine behind her back buckling under the damage of the Valkyrie’s spell had wrought, and the impact of both Adelaide and soon the water-caster herself. This was going to be either a lot of fun or a lot of pain, possibly both.
The Captain not-so-secretly hoped they’d wind up slammed into the ground with Ilsa on top of her. For purely tactical reasons of course.
Light flared through water as the torrent hammered the two women with debris. Takitsuse was rapidly losing potency, though. The waterspout wobbled and collapsed into an enormous puddle, leaving one battered and bruised shinigami in black- and one glowing in white and gold, enormous crystalline wings wrapped around herself in a last-ditch defense.
Ilsa groaned as she wobbled to her feet, the glaive in her hand transformed into a broadsword of white flame. Her eyes were orbs of the same fire; her formerly torn and burnt shihakushou was now wet but otherwise pristine, black turned to white and white turned to gold. Blood trickled down her right temple, slowly soaking through her pale hair. The wings had protected most of her body, but something heavy had clocked her a good one. Nausea roiled in her belly; had it not been for Tenrai Chikaku correcting every flaw in her vision, Ilsa strongly suspected that she would have been seeing double.
But she could still fight, and that was all that mattered.
She jumped, flying under her own control this time. Hopefully they would be able to finish this soon, and screw the tournament points; a concussion was nothing to mess around with and she wanted a healer. Ilsa raised her burning sword and pointed it at Adelaide.
“Wakemotsu Tenrai Chikaku.”

Bankai
If you can cast Daishou in midair, Ilsa can release bankai before she hits.
Hagoromo(Robe of Feathers or Angel’s Raiment) - Hagoromo refers to Ilsa’s wings. They are more a symbol of flight than functional wings; she does not have to beat them to stay aloft, although she will fall if one or both are sufficiently damaged. Her flight speed and maneuverability are dependent on her hohou. The wings are made of the same zanpakutou-strength crystal as Hinometori’s shikai form, and thus can be used as an impromptu shield or weapon. The wings’ durability is dependent on her zanjutsu. Her wingspan is 15 feet. She can dismiss her wings if she really needs to fit into a tight space, but she cannot reactivate them.
Wakemotsu Tenrai Chikaku(Shared Divine Perception) - ...When used on someone else, Wakemotsu Tenrai Chikaku costs 5% reiatsu, can stack up to two times, and lasts for three rounds. Ilsa can choose to pay for multiple stacks when activating the ability. To an ally, the enhanced senses feel as natural as their own, boosting their prime stat by 10% of Ilsa’s kidou per stack. An ally may decrease their enhanced senses at will. To an enemy, the enhanced senses are profoundly unnatural, decreasing their prime stat by 10% of Ilsa’s kidou per stack. She must hit an enemy with a 1’ wide beam of light with a 30’ range in order to affect them. This beam of light travels at the same speed as a kidou of similar form.
“Caries Sanctimonia Lashiel,” as she spoke her hair fell from its ponytail, black color washing out, down her back and extending her hair as it darkened to pure abyssal blackness. It had been something that she felt better to avoid doing, but when she felt her mind feeling even more sluggish than the limiter had. Had the limiter malfunctioned or was she just overexerting herself? Either way, it was time to become more versatile. It was time for “Bankai.”
The clothes she wore blended and formed an overcoat and a blouse, a skirt, boots, a decidedly European outfit. The blade of the scythe grew and snapped violently to a larger, more hostile appearance, and a second blade formed at the bottom of the weapon. Lastly, most extravagantly, massive wings of fire burst like hostile destruction from her back. A battle of angels, how fun! chirped Lashiel with elation. Adelaide, on the other hand, just wished that the fire-wings let her fly. Clearly Ilsa had an advantage there.
But overcoming disadvantage was something Adelaide was decidedly able to do. Her sluggish casting ability was at least mitigated somewhat by her pushing limits of her casting with Lilith. As for not being able to fly, well, she had already shown that not being able to flap her wings wasn’t keeping her earthbound. Pulling the old sheet of steel toward her, the Fallen Angel leaped onto the plate and used it to carry her toward Ilsa, trying to close to melee range. Silver flecks of light followed the flame angel as she was carried into the air.
It was unsettling to say the least to see her silver lights under these enhanced effects, and what she was about to do was going to be deafening, yet blindness and deafness were mercies she wasn't going to be granted in this moment. No, the extreme perception of the world was something she was going to be stuck with. The Mystics' Clairvoyance had once enhanced perception, so too had her use of Katsuji Ishin's gravity fields, but nothing came close to this. Senses burst with atonement in a profoundly foreign way.
“Sanjukageki.” It felt so slow, so uncontrolled and so unfocused, but she poured energy through it, thanks to her Soulfire, to make the triple lances of power devastating despite her sudden weakness. As her energy sent toward the Valkyrie the devilish blades of her scythe came in for an attack. This tactic felt absurd but she wasn’t sure what else to do. Her magic was waning horribly, and at this rate she wouldn’t be able to cast at all soon. Sanjukageki was probably her last chance to prove her kidou’s worth.
The hypersensativity she had since Ilsa's attack made her glad she was using Soulfire now, instead of Hellfire.

Soulfire
SoulfireSoulfire is the enhanced form of Hellfire. At the cost of 3% of her reiatsu per turn, Adelaide can augment all her kidou. While using Soulfire, Adelaide cannot use Lashiel's Shadow or Flames of Passion. As Soulfire is active, cosmetic flecks of silver light float around Adelaide and the scythe. Kidou used while Soulfire is active cost twice as much, and become twice as effective in terms of scope and magnitude. Chromatic fire and actual fire-based kidou may instead cost triple the normal and have triple the normal effectiveness.
Note that the 3% per turn and ability lockout are removed by GM review, but there's some kai redevelopment that needs to be done because of that.
“The gods’ most steadfast protection, sealed from all injury. Wall of purity, impenetrable mirror, precious bastion.” Ilsa leaped backward, speaking the words in the clipped, rapid manner of an arcanist in a hurry. “Bakudou number seventy-six, Kyoumon.”
Multicolored flames washed over the vice-captain, obscuring her from view. The hadou burned for a few seconds, trying to scorch their target away... and faded, revealing a transparent, glassy barrier hovering in midair. Ilsa stood behind it, completely untouched as Adelaide’s scythe rang against the Kyoumon. She smiled, raising her fiery broadsword and stepping out from behind her shield. “Oh, so now you want a zanjutsu battle! Splendid, it’s so hard to find someone else who uses a polearm.” Actually, what Ilsa wanted most right now was a private place to throw up and a medic to look at her head. But psychology was a part of any battle with a thinking being; showing weakness might cost her the match. “Unfortunately, I don’t feel like using pure zanjutsu right now.
“Kogeru Nichirin.”
The nimbus of light around her strengthened, turning from gold to pure white. Scorching heat radiated from her body as Ilsa lunged toward her opponent, flaming sword slashing down at Adelaide’s left leg.

Kidou and bankai
Kyoumon (Mirror Door) - Bakudou #76, 3400 Kidou
Description: Creates a glass-like barrier which surrounds the caster. It is nearly impossible to break from the outside, but is vulnerable to attacks from within. Attacks to the outside are only 2/3rd as effective at breaking the barrier, but attacks from inside are 3 times as effective.
Kogeru Nichirin(Burning Sun) - Ilsa can strengthen her aura of light to the point where anyone within 15 feet is burned. Her aura of light turns pure white when Kogeru Nichirin is active. She can spare allies with whom she has attained United Front from the effects. Kogeru Nichirin costs 5% of Ilsa’s reiatsu per round.
This was a moment Adelaide hadn’t felt in a very, very long time. She watched a spell be utterly ineffective. She had even broken down Inori Shahei’s defenses with Soukatsui before. This... was different. Unpleasantly so. Fair fights sucked sometimes.
Also, her overcoat was on fire, and not in the normal way, which was not a good sign. Soon her arms had foreign flames crawling on them, her boots, legs. The burns had less intensity than the ones Adelaide often inflicted, but no less pain and serious damage.
The worst of it was the searing light, though. She usually regarded being deprived of senses in combat to be the most irritating thing her opponents enjoyed doing, but right now she'd have killed for Break of Dusk. Her head screamed, her eyes watered, her ears were quite literally bleeding from the sounds around her and her wounds screamed in agony. This, contrary to her earlier belittling remark, was far worse than a stab through the lung.
It's perception, child, you've played this game in mundane ways before, echoed the voice of Lashiel in her mind, you know the pain you feel is all in your mind, it doesn't cripple you. It was kind of dumb for the spirit to assume the wielder was listening. She wasn't. She was too busy trying to push past how tired she was getting, how the wounds that normally would be something a seasoned soldier could just tune out were suddenly blaring their agonizing screams. But damn it all she was a professional. Adelaide Pierce wasn't going to let a trick of her mind make her surrender.
It was a good thing she had arrived at her endgame strategy.
Adelaide knew that in any straight-up contest right now she was at a disadvantage. She knew her casting now was in fact weaker than her rival’s, she knew her zanjutsu was more clumsy than her opponent’s, she knew her flight was decidedly fake in comparison to Ilsa’s. But what she had was a synergy of these talents where, together, she felt she could thrive. What that meant, exactly, was Kenkyouka.
As the weapons rang out together, silver petals filled the air. At point-blank range, there was no way Ilsa could avoid them, and they stuck to her on contact. The cloud she had generated before seemed almost anemic compared to the sheer number thrown out by Soulfire. True her kidou skills were being constrained, but Soulfire more than made up for anything she lost. Well beyond her normal limitations now, this gambit was clearly desperate, but it was so brutal.
She jumped backwards off the steel plate to land on the ground below as the silver flower petals rained down around her. “I suggest surrender, Ilsa!” the redhead shouted. Because if she didn’t, then things were going to get very uncomfortable.
If Ilsa didn’t surrender, then, well... snap.

Since I can't keep those flower petals across multiple turns, assume that unless Ilsa responds directly to Adelaide, she ignited Homurahana.
Homurahana is valued at 4200.
Thank Sappho for Threshold Increase.
Also, funfacts, Adelaide is at like 4000 remaining reiatsu.
Silence reigned for a long moment as Ilsa stared impassively down at Adelaide. Inside, she wanted to hit herself for being so stupid. She had been so sure that the other woman would be too low on reiatsu, too close to her kidou threshold to cast yet another overpowered fire hadou! And this one was almost certainly pumped full of more reiatsu than any Homurahana had a right to be. Ilsa’s Kyomon had just barely been able to block the previous Sanjukageki- a hadou that should normally be well within the barrier’s capacity- and those flames had also had the odd silver tinge that the Homurahana sticking all over her had.
She might be able to get off a shot of her own if the hadou took effect. But even with Tenrai Chikaku blocking the worst of the pain, there was a real chance of permanent damage this time. Had this been a real fight, Ilsa would have kept going to the bitter end. But all this was was a tournament. All that was at stake was bragging rights... and her pride. The blistering radiance of Kogeru Nichirin dimmed to the normal golden light of her bankai.
“This isn’t worth it. I yield.”
Defeat was such a bitter, bitter pill to swallow. She would be picking apart all of her mistakes in this fight for a long time. Hinometori radiated an inner warmth, his version of a comforting hug. You made her work for it, fledgling. She is a captain; there is no shame in losing to one more powerful than you, even though her reiatsu was limited.
I really thought I could take her, Hinometori. I was so close!
I know. Learn from your mistakes here, but do not dwell on them. Every defeat is a lesson learned, as you are fond of telling your students.
He was right, of course. That didn’t make this any more pleasant. Ilsa started to turn toward the door, then paused and looked at her victorious opponent. “This would have been a good fight, had you not seen fit to drag me around by my hormones. As it is... I have lost a great deal of respect for you today.” With that, she turned and flew for the exit.
Harsh but true. Perhaps she will think twice when using that technique next time.
That’s the idea. Such things should not be taken lightly.
She wanted to be snide in retort, but instead the best she could come up with was “I tried to light you on fire, Ilsa, it’s the emotional control you’re complaining about?” She shook her head and sealed her weapon, desperate for a medic or for the Valkyrie’s damned effect to wear off, “Either way, even Limited my study of expending energy beyond my normal threshold is what made me able to even compete. Had Lilith not imparted this knowledge on me, you would have won easily. My zanpakutou’s abilities, however ineffective they seemed to be, weren’t anything more than a momentary distraction. And the key to magic, as it has always been, is distraction.
“It’s far more moral to – SON OF A BITCH!” she winced. Moving was a bad idea in retrospect, she was going to stand still and continue her lecture, “It’s far more moral to afflict you with temptation than it would’ve been to melt your face off. And if you think that what you saw here was the pinnacle of what I am capable of, you are mistaken. In fact, I burned myself out almost entirely on parlor tricks compared to the things I might’ve done. So lay off the indignation.”
Lashiel interjected in a remarkably dramatic way; the Angel of Lust manifested. She had abyssal hair that fell to the ground and empty onyx eyes, an olive complexion that was smooth, delicate and perfect, she had the wings of fire Adelaide sported in full release, but hers looked more like traditional angelic wings, the flames molded somehow to look like blazing feathers. Lashiel also only wore a golden collar, with matching cuffs on her wrists and ankles and was bound, in a way that barely preserved modesty, with gold chain. Her voice was like sweet melody. Still, everything about her radiated a fundamental wrongness. “Perhaps you should let her come to this understanding on her own. You did just undermine her entire self-awareness with a wave of my power, after all.” The voice of reason coming from the angel of temptation was an odd thing, but not an unprecedented one. “She is constrained by the denial of worldly pleasure so many see as so noble, and she had likely never before seen a woman as you made her see you.”
Looking to Ilsa, in this remarkably unorthodox moment, Lashiel smiled and the very act was impossible in its sensuality and its discordance. “It is unusual to encounter one as averse to the liberation of worldly delight as yourself, my darling. The Child’s actions may unsettle you now, but rest assured, the ‘angel’ will always maintain her radiance, and the Fallen always her fire. This is the nature of things.”
Then, as impromptu as her arrival, the allurer flicked her wrist with a melodramatic wave and offered a simple “Ta,” before disappearing once more.
Damn that was always embarrassing. And Adelaide thought that she wasn’t able to do that since she had been bound. Still, she was remarkably well-behaved. Perhaps the Virtues allowed it, or perhaps the Virtues were a fiction told by Lashiel from the outset. Either way, with a groan more of pain than anything else, Adelaide offered weakly, “Sorry.”
And then as Ilsa flew off, she fell unceremoniously on her face.
It appeared elegance didn’t really suit the Temptress' acolyte. She seemed to prefer passing out after combat was over.
Meanwhile, the observer who stood beside Satoru offered a deep, warm laugh at the scene and extended a honey-toned hand and an elaborate parchment envelope with no writing on it whatsoever toward the afrogami. "You work with Miss Pierce, yes? See to it she receives this letter?" the voice was flecked with a hint of an accent, vaguely Middle-Eastern in nature, but his Japanese was precise. Although he kept his face hidden, his tone had a smile to it, "And tell her she is still talented, but not wise. As things change others remain the same, eh?" The mystery man never touched Satoru directly, simply took a step back once the envelope was taken and uttered "Glass Veil" before vanishing.
