[1st/4th/10th/11th] Week 297: Round Three: Pandemonium in Sala de Uyuni

The dagger made a very strange sound as it buried its way into and subsequently through Satoru's afro. It was one of those sounds that was impossible to replicate unless the act was repeated. Nevertheless, it caused the Mystic grow even more irritated. Attacking his hair? Kyuto had released her weapon, but she couldn't be taking this match the slightest bit seriously if she was throwing daggers at his hair. The Fourth Seat attempted to force his irritation under control and allow his logical mind to take over, but her carefree attitude on top of his previous bouts were undermining that goal to a small degree. His eyes closed for a brief moment as he focused on finding the other half of his soul.

I can't lose here, Dia. I want to know... no, I have an obligation to know what it's like to win. No help from others, no duets, just the aria of the Inquisitive.

Can you prove that?, chuckled the sword spirit. If so, be my guest. But win or lose, I am grateful that you're communing with me now. We will succeed or fail together.

He then opened his eyes and leveled a tempestuous gaze right back at Kyuto.

"Emitir, Diapasao!"

And with that command, the Fourth Seat of the Tenth Division was released upon the world. The tanto that lay secured horizontally on his back burst apart into a loose cluster of tiny pixels. After a brief moment, they reformed themselves into his half-closed hand. The weapon thrummed as it materialized into the familiar black tuning fork, filling the area with the din of the Mystic's power. The black weapon glowed brightly as the light blue lines etched themselves across its surface.

He ran backwards, keeping distance between himself and Kyuto as another incantation spilled rapidly from his lips.

"Noble stone, unmovable force. Bend to my will and aid me. Take this stray lamb back under guidance and bestow upon them all truths. Bakudou no Niju-San, Clay!"

The ground once again began to soften into an adhesive pit, this time underneath Kyuto. The already sloggy terrain became outright quicksand under the guidance of Satoru's arcane energies. Taking advantage of the moment, Satoru flashed forward and swung the weapon in a wide arc straight for her head. Unbeknownst to him, the crimson bat began responding to his desire to win. The tuning fork began to emit a peculiar frequency, only audible to Kyuto as the weapon came nearer and nearer to her.

[ 416 / 1416 ]

Introducing the brand new...
Attack: Ouça-me! (Listen to Me!)

By imbuing 750 reiatsu into Diapasão, Satoru can cause his weapon to emit a unique frequency upon impacting an opponent that alters a person's sensory perception. By doing so, this attack will dramatically amplify the hearing of one opponent for three turns. Excessively loud or harsh sounds like gunshots, screaming, or the clashing of weapons become utterly devastating. This will result in a sensory overload that hinders the opponent from attacking with their normal proficiency. This ability may only be active on one target at a time and requires two turns of cooldown after the first instance wears off to allow the target's mind to reset itself.

Stunned speechless, Rina tumbled backwards, wide-eyed as she stared at the massive beam of raw destructive force. She fell flat on her bottom in the soggy mush, blinking incredulously within the shadows of her hood. "Was?" she exclaimed, looking at Elena. "Es gibt keinen Weg ich tun könnte ... Ich bin kein Monster!"

To the side, Kyu clicked her tongue with disappointment. She wanted to see Sayis' light-show! She didn't want it badly enough to ignore her opponent, though!

Before the gunk took hold completely, the brunette slid one foot back; while it was only a few inches, it was just enough to brace herself. With her eyes on Satoru's, Kyu felt an odd sense of detached confidence, showing it with the grin at the corner of her mouth. "Too obvious!" she taunted. The four-bladed shuriken whirled around her fingers suddenly, slamming against the forks of Satoru's weapon once, twice, three times in rapid succession. The weapon deflected toward the clay puddle at her feet, with the spinning blades continuing to whirl and screech against the metallic staff.

Kyu released the blade, sending the sword skipping across the haft of the weapon toward its owner.

Pushing herself to her feet, Rina cupped her hands together and yelled out, "Hey, mein Herr! Bitte nicht sterben!"

She jumped and let out a squeak when the perfect cylinder of Hiryuugekizokushintenraihou let out a thunderous clap before collapsing in on itself in rings and exploding outward. With each miniature detonation, a tidal wave of cobalt reiryoku was loosed to scorch the sparse vegetation and rocks, revealing flashes of gold light at the center. The trail of rings shot rapidly backward, toward the Soutaichou. Realizing belatedly what was happening, Rina bounced and pumped one fist in the air, letting out a loud whoop.

The shout hit Kyu like a punch in the side of the head. Already she had another sword in hand, but now her head was pounding. Explosions she expected to be loud, especially where Sayis was involved! There was no way that little hooded girl had a voice like a freight train, though. Groaning, Kyu covered one ear with her free hand.

Ishmael's arrow ripped through the deadly hadou, splitting right through its center, breaking the bonds that held the immense power focused together. Rather than shock, though, behind the blinding glow of his own hadou, Sayis had an expression of confident amusement.

The retaliation was expected, and a counter prepared. The translucent form of his pseudo blade sliced in from the side, blade trailing arcs of electricity as it moved to intercept Seele Henker. The flat of the sword struck the arrow, already churning with reiatsu devoted to one sole purpose: to deflect the arrow harmlessly aside.

By the time he realized his mistake, it was too late.

No mere arrow, the oscillating tip of Seele Henker met the flat of pseudo-Karil. Instead of rebounding, it ripped into the flowing reiryoku to saw through the crystalline structure of the kidou-forged blade. With a snap like shattered glass, the false sword split down the center. Caught off-guard, Sayis only had time to cross his true zanpakuto across his body before the golden artifact struck, throwing up a shower of sparks as it met the zanpakuto.

The sword held strong, but the angle was off. Seele Henker sliced a deep gouge through Sayis' right side, just above his hip. Continuing on, the blade sank deep into the silty surface of the salt flats.

Although different, in the back of his mind, Sayis was already making the comparison between this new weapon and Raifuku's Sunder Schmieden. Blood was flowing freely down his right leg, beneath his injured arm. Rather than being angered, though, Sayis looked impressed. "I wasn't... looking to add any more scars today." Breathing heavily past the pain, the grey-haired Soutaichou nonetheless stood up as straight as he could. "Are you content with just that? Do you want that girl to see that this is your limit, Seerauber?"

Notes
Sorry, no tooltips today. They take time and I'm late enough as-is.

Kyu countered with her style tech:

[ Shinkenjutsu no Mon: Hariuke ] - "Parry With the Flat"

"The proper way to react to an opponent's attack is to slap the attack aside and strike him immediately as an extension of the same effort. You must take the initiative through the movement of the parry and take the initiative through the strike.

In a parry, it is important to direct not just your opponent's attack, but your own as well. When you turn aside the enemy's attack, keep the point and edge of your own blade forward. In doing so, you are prepared for immediate counter-attack while your opponent is still at a brief disadvantage. Done correctly and with resolve, even if the opponent's strike is very strong, the point of your sword will not be knocked aside."

While in Mon no Seigyo, the practitioner is capable of parrying an attack and counter-attacking in the same motion. This is only effective against physical attacks with strength up to 15% of the practitioner's Zanjutsu, and requires a one-round cooldown between uses.

Requirements: Shinkenjutsu no Mon

So, whether your attack counts as a normal melee attack (10% of your hakuda) or the 750 cost of the ability, it's within the limits.

Even though the ability specifically says 'impact an opponent,' Sev and I decided that impacting the weapon while she's holding it would count. So the hyper-hearing set in later in the turn.

Sayis countered with Kawasu, but the arrow-sword destroyed his pseudo blade. No new spells used, just a taunt.

Once the spectacular light show was over, Elena noticed that Rina had been slowly getting closer to the agent. So she nonchalantly did what anyone would’ve done in that situation.

She quickly jabbed her elbow out, hoping to catch her in the ribs.

Due to the participants in this fight, I'll be ruling on the outcome as the round has come to a close.

First let me say this. Goddamn, this was a clusterfuck. I hate whomever decided to roll these into one. That being said, the participants should have understood that a great deal of coordination would be required to keep this collab moving, and in that aspect I'm disappointed to say you all fell flat. This should have been an epic battle, but instead, the scant amount of time you had was wasted due to people at best playing too close to the vest, or at worst, not playing at all.

The winner between Sayis Inuzuri and Ishmael Seerauber is quite clearly Sayis Inuzuri. Having spoken to both parties about this outcome on one occasion or another, the consensus seems to be that Ishmael took a massive hit and was knocked out of the fight.

The winner between Toride Satoru and Kyuto Tounyuu is Toride Satoru. This was a hard one to judge since neither of you made any significant moves or took any substantial damage. In the end, I have to give it to Satoru for at the very least, making more offensive plays than Kyuto. Flimsy as that may be, there isn't a lot to work with so :/

And finally, the winner between "Elena" and Rina Walker is Rina Walker. You chatted, save for one jab snuck in on the last day of the round. I may as well have flipped a coin.

All in all, this was a pretty disappointing show. I hope the next round is decidedly more active for the lot of you.
